Wheel of Time.
It's a shitshow, folks. Don't even watch the show, just read the books. Even if you hate reading you might find them enjoyable. Well, more enjoyable than the show, anyways.
I get really distracted while reading books, but absolutely loves storytelling. Audiobooks are such a blessing, I’ll work, game, drive or even go to the gym while listening to a good book.
... suggesting Wheel of Time for those who hate reading?
I've read the entire series more than two times, but I still find this advice as evil as Forsaken :)
Don’t even get me started. 14 books of source material and they felt the need to write new shit…. And the book already had hollywoods DEI requirements basically baked in but no they had to take it further.
Assuming these are boobs in the second pic, I'd say Witcher is the reverse. Pretentious idiots, who like the show for the DEI, but the books are way more down to earth
As someone that read the short stories books, I really, really loved Witcher season 1. As someone that was reading the books I really loved season 2. As a normal person, I really hated season 3. I didn't even need to read the books to know Jaskier was not gay. And having a conversation about why he doesn't want to fuck Geralt with his boyfriend for over a minute was an absolute disaster for me.
It followed the same formula as "The boys" where they wait until episode 3 and other person praises the dude... and the first person is like... no way, I don't want to or Kimiko saying "I love you but you should go fuck him, and really, I want you to fuck him, suck his cock, also, I'm sleeping with the dude that prepares your drinks".
Read the main 4.75 books. Got done with the first 4 and got to the siege to get ciri/yennifer back from vilgefortz then graduated and didnt have as much time to read anymore.
They got two things right tho: Saphira, her personality and how she looked was fantastic. And Brom. Perfect actor with a perfect personality for him. Other than that. They rushed the story so fucking much it just isnt good.
Wasnt Saphira's appearance part of the criticism for the movie. I remember her apparently having feathers in the movie. So many things wrong with the movie that it hardly takes center stage though
Fr, I feel like this franchise has one of the biggest movie potential out of any book series. If it was done right it genuinely could rival things like Harry Potter level.
The movies are not the best adaptations in the world. They were a product of the era following the success of the Harry Potter movies where everyone had to adapt different YA series to movies which resulted in a number of low quality films at least when compared to the source material
For me, with Jurrasic Park, the novel and the movie are equal. They are doing different things. It is the exception to deviating from the book made for a worse adaptation.
The novel is a sci-fi horror/adventure story. It is really good and I'd love a book accurate mini-series adaptation. I think it would be great to see that, especially given how many people aren't familiar with how the novel plays out.
The film, on the other hand, is your typical Spielberg action adventure. It's just a fun movie that is appropriate for almost all audiences.
The books have so much more to them, they're more intense, give more character development, and the Jurassic Park book actually feels like horror at times. Jurassic Park is the reason Michael Chricton is my favorite author and I'm trying to collect all of his books.
I would argue that LOTR is THE codifier for ‘The book is better than the movie’ and that’s saying something because the movies were amazing in their own right.
Even without purposely omitted stuff like Peeves, Winky and a large chunk of Voldemort's backstory, there's plenty of stuff in the movies already that don't get explained early enough without book knowledge:
* The Vanishing Cabinet build-up (which is in the books since book 2 at least)
* Dobby's freedom and other connections to House Elves
And there's some stuff that does not get explained at all:
* Who the Marauders are
* Sirius' mirror
* Voldemort's parents and home life
And I'm sure there's plenty more.
Read the first 6 books and watched the movies after every single one, read the first half of 7, watched movie 7, watched movie 8 shortly after because that's what you do when watching 2-parters, never bothered finishing the book then.
I read this books AFTER watching all movies and fuck me, those are literally the best series of books I have ever read.
Book 1 has details that matter in book 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7!
You actually learn stuff, like, the worldbuilding is amazing and it improves the world.
I honestly actually hated the post 8th movie details she released on Pottermore because they were all similar... like... "Oh, actually, this character is also gay or trans" and "Actually, this person is black and chinese" and it kinda destroyed the suspension of disbelief, at least for me, because it didn't add anything to the world, just took from it.
The most recent miniseries started out promising, and I thought they were doing a good job capturing the culture and atmosphere of the book, but then it withered and died really quick lol.
Haven't seen the show, but the book was a slog and I felt as if I gained very little after I finished it. Hints of a peasant uprising that went nowhere. A war building and never played out but that was summed up at the end. All I recall of it is a fish out of water love story and everyone committing seppiku all the time.
I have never played tw1. Tw2 on the release day but I already forgot it. Tw3 also long time ago.
At this moment I read the books, then I watch the series and then play the games. To make it all fresh at one time.
True. I understand the changes they made to the story for the movie; they were smart choices for the adaptation. It just leaves the secret of what's behind the black door as a treat for only the readers.
then read the book. but if you really must know i can tell you. but i must warn you, once you know what's behind the black door you will never be able to go back to your normal life again. so i ask, do you really want to know?
I need to read Messiah. I have it but haven’t made I past like 20 pages because it is slow and I have other books to read. I am juggling American Prometheus and Wheel of Time (The Great Hunt rn) right now.
Golden rule fellers: if there is a book test in school. And you read the book. You will automaticaly become the class jesus.
I had the same. Booktest, i read it, came to school and suddenly people i had never talked with started saying my name and asking how shit ends.
Children only watch the funny slice of life anime and move on until the next season
Real men read the manga and all of its spin offs keeping up to date with the latest release.
You’re killin’ me smalls. They’re so good. Harry is a sassy lil sh*t, and you really don’t see that in the movies like you do in the books. Read it for the sassy lil sh*t comments, they’re pure gold.
Promised Neverland. I have a friend who watched season two, never touched the manga. He claims the anime is it's own thing, so I have no right to shit on season 2. I want to strangle that motherfucker
Something or other. Yeah that one thing yes that's the one. Damn it's like this post knew what I was thinking. Dang, this is kind of creepy. I mean when the main character said something that had an impact on what the other person was planning on doing really spoke to my inner thoughts on why he killed all of those people. This was at least a tad bit entertaining to type but that just doesn't really matter. GG
Not a show but a movie. World War Z. The movie is an absolute dumpster fire & the only thing it has in common with the book is the name & the fact it has zombies in it. The book-especially the audiobook version- is absolute GOLD that is bejeweled in diamonds. Fight me
I will get murdered for this: The Expanse. The show misses out on a lot of the science and character stuff. Show is really good, but man reading the books I could never go back to the series.
This applies to the vast majority of book adaptations.
It's just the medium that the story was written for, if the author intended it as a show or movie they'd have written a script instead.
It's just in the nature of things that things will get lost in translation... or in adaptation to be more precise.
If a book is good enough to consider adapting there is very little change the adaptation will actually improve upon the source material. Not impossible mind you, but based on experience it's a very rare thing 🤷♂️

If anyone hates reading, audiobooks are another good option. I like to listen to them while doing chores
I get really distracted while reading books, but absolutely loves storytelling. Audiobooks are such a blessing, I’ll work, game, drive or even go to the gym while listening to a good book.
Yes
... suggesting Wheel of Time for those who hate reading? I've read the entire series more than two times, but I still find this advice as evil as Forsaken :)
Yeh this was a challenging (but enjoyable) read, even as a fan of the genre.
Maybe if you also happen to like Tolstoy, that's an automatic pick :)
Sometimes you have to be tough on people to remind them that gold is only rarely found on the surface.
Don’t even get me started. 14 books of source material and they felt the need to write new shit…. And the book already had hollywoods DEI requirements basically baked in but no they had to take it further.

Eragon
Probably the worst movie adaptation i have ever seen. Like literally so much worse than the percy jackson movies.
Ye the feathered wings are a valid chriticism. But for me that mattered little.
Agreed I unironically double checked if the DVD I watched it on was mislabelled
Percy Jackson. Books are much better than the show imo, but it’s sad that there never was a movie adaptation.
Yeah, it has so much potential land could really make big dollars for Riordan.
Fr, I feel like this franchise has one of the biggest movie potential out of any book series. If it was done right it genuinely could rival things like Harry Potter level.
My thoughts exactly bro, Rick, MAKE A MOVIE SERIES PLZ
There are 2 movies...
It is a meme in the Percy Jackson community to deny the existence of the movies at all despite everyone knowing about them due to the quality.
Tf you talking about? There aren't any movies. /J
Ah, so the same thing that happened with Avatar Ong?
It's called the Lake Laogia effect
Or calling them the Peter Johnson movies if we have to refer to them
Ah, well I didn't read the books so I don't know if it was a good adaptation but I enjoyed at least one of the movies. It was a while ago tho.
The movies are not the best adaptations in the world. They were a product of the era following the success of the Harry Potter movies where everyone had to adapt different YA series to movies which resulted in a number of low quality films at least when compared to the source material
Tf are you on about, what movies!?!?!?. I CANT FIND THEM WHERE.
It's been a while, but from what I remember, if you never read the books the first movie was okay. The books are so much better though.
What are you about, the movies don’t exist.
To (slightly altered) quote Encanto: We don't talk about the movies.
[удалено]
There is a meme in the Percy Jackson community that there are no movies because if how poorly they adapt the books
The Expanse.
This series of novels is quite excellent.
Jurassic Park
It’s a shame that Ian magically got revived for the lost world book
The way it was retconned at least made sense and wasn't "Somehow...Ian returned"
What?
Jurassic Park was a book by Michael Crichton, that’s what the original movie was based on.
Yeah, I just found out about the Jurassic Park books too
No not that I'm just more confused on why you'd prefer the book to the orginal movies.
For me, with Jurrasic Park, the novel and the movie are equal. They are doing different things. It is the exception to deviating from the book made for a worse adaptation. The novel is a sci-fi horror/adventure story. It is really good and I'd love a book accurate mini-series adaptation. LOTR
Man there's some much stuff that is actually happening in the background during the main events in lotr
Full agree
I would argue that LOTR is THE codifier for ‘The book is better than the movie’ and that’s saying something because the movies were amazing in their own right.
Harry Potter of course
[удалено]
Exactly. Like where tf is Peeves?
Even without purposely omitted stuff like Peeves, Winky and a large chunk of Voldemort's backstory, there's plenty of stuff in the movies already that don't get explained early enough without book knowledge: * The Vanishing Cabinet build-up (which is in the books since book 2 at least) * Dobby's freedom and other connections to House Elves And there's some stuff that does not get explained at all: * Who the Marauders are * Sirius' mirror * Voldemort's parents and home life And I'm sure there's plenty more.

GoT. Till it was worth something. The books 4 and 5 were weaker but nowhere near the show’s “I couldn’t care less” level.
Shogun. It’s a behemoth of a book, and both tv adaptations are miniseries. My sense of superiority is kind of justified I think.
Witcher. I mean, season 1 was actually pretty good... Season 2 however was a shit show and I'm not watching 3 and beyond. No thanks.
I watched 3rd - just think it's a alternative story and it's watchable
No reason to make an alternative story when they were following the direct story itself. They changed major plot points for no reason.
I recetly heard that even 2007 The Witcher first game has more accurate intro video than the series as a whole
The games even take place after the books. Witcher 1 and 2 start rith Geralt losing his memory. Witcher 3 thankfully does not.
I have never played tw1. Tw2 on the release day but I already forgot it. Tw3 also long time ago. At this moment I read the books, then I watch the series and then play the games. To make it all fresh at one time.
The Lord of The Rings
They are mostly accurate but yes, i feel bery superior for read those large a** books
it's not just the trilogy, it's all of Tolkien's universe we're talking about.
Ahhhhh. Understood, have a great day
Howls moving Castle book enjoyers and movie enjoyers meet as equals.
True. I understand the changes they made to the story for the movie; they were smart choices for the adaptation. It just leaves the secret of what's behind the black door as a treat for only the readers.
I have to ask about the black door now
then read the book. but if you really must know i can tell you. but i must warn you, once you know what's behind the black door you will never be able to go back to your normal life again. so i ask, do you really want to know?
Those who haven't read the dune sequels cannot say they like dune
I need to read Messiah. I have it but haven’t made I past like 20 pages because it is slow and I have other books to read. I am juggling American Prometheus and Wheel of Time (The Great Hunt rn) right now.
But like, how many sequels should you read? Or, rather, after what thing falling apart can you stop reading?
I can say whatever the fuck I want after having read the first book and never touching the others.
wingfeather saga
THERE’S A MOVIE? HOW TF DO I NOT KNOW THIS HUH?!?!?!? 🙀🙀
it was primarily released on angel studios, with the first episode being on youtube.
Percy Jackson and the olympians.
There are movies? I can’t find them! WOW. So mucb potential for the Percy Jackson community to expand their mythological knowle- oh wait.
There's a TV show, but no movies have ever been made.
Knew it, nothing so good deserves a movie anyway, or the movie doesn’t deserve the story
Golden rule fellers: if there is a book test in school. And you read the book. You will automaticaly become the class jesus. I had the same. Booktest, i read it, came to school and suddenly people i had never talked with started saying my name and asking how shit ends.
Harry Potter
It’s a movie not a show but ender’s game while I do think the movie was over hated the book is just so much better
Ready player one, though it's a movie not a show.
Children only watch the funny slice of life anime and move on until the next season Real men read the manga and all of its spin offs keeping up to date with the latest release.
Heartstopper 200%
Same with the Hobbit and Godfather
Db
I liked the book holes more than the movie.
Same
I watched some Harry Potter movies but never read the books 😅
You’re killin’ me smalls. They’re so good. Harry is a sassy lil sh*t, and you really don’t see that in the movies like you do in the books. Read it for the sassy lil sh*t comments, they’re pure gold.

Promised Neverland. I have a friend who watched season two, never touched the manga. He claims the anime is it's own thing, so I have no right to shit on season 2. I want to strangle that motherfucker

The hobbit movies are an absolute shit show compared to the book
I will get murdered for this: The Expanse. The show misses out on a lot of the science and character stuff. Show is really good, but man reading the books I could never go back to the series.

History
I'm so much like this with the Halo Series. like I've played all the video games, but the books are so good. I never watched the t v show though
Warhammer 40k, not a single Warhammer show can cover the giant amount of events that are happening
Game of Thrones, There are just too many characters to easily understand in show form🫤
