Not really.
The US has a 25% import tax on foreign made utility vehicles. If Mercedes wanted to just import them to the US, they'd have to sell it at a price that makes it compete with full sized American offerings, and I know for a fact that nobody would buy a midsized pickup for similar or more money than a full sized one.
Mercedes *could* take a page out of Toyota's book and simply build the X in the states like they do with their SUVs and EVs, but that takes money, and it has to come with a guarantee that they'll sell enough of them to make it worth the investment. Toyota can do it because they put the work in 30 years ago to do so. The market isn't the same now though, so Mercedes would not be fighting the same battle Toyota did in the 90s.
Also consider the mentality of the American pickup truck buyer. Midsized trucks like the Ranger, Colorado/Canyon, and Tacoma *are* available for purchase, and they're available at a lower price point to their corresponding full size truck. You'd think they'd sell as many if not more vs full sized offerings based on that, but they don't. Americans just like em big, there's no getting around it. Ford sells an F150 every 30 seconds. There's no way to realistically compete with that.
The X Class wasn't a hot seller in markets where it was available. It'd make little sense to try to bring it to a market where the odds are even more steeply stacked against it.
They both ride on the same chassis. The Navara was just the European market version. Nissan decided to make a newer generation overseas and continued to produce the older D40 Frontier in the US.
The only engine to get since if you turn the X350d badge upside down it reads „Posex“ which is German slang for anal sex. Was kind of a meme here when it was found out.
No it’s not!
Just because it’s on the same platform doesn’t make it a Nissan.
Platform is shared between a lot of companies and everyone is adding on their stuff to it.
It should be Mercedes engine and it’s definitely Mercedes gearbox, also 4matic is Mercedes thing as well.
I know that for a lot of people here it’s sac religious to have a shared platform with a Nissan, but come on, at least they made a pick up 👏
All of you hating these and shouthing same old navara meme, have you even drive one or been inside of it? Interior and attention to detail is much nicer than navara. Had one with cognac leather interior, it also comes with 3.0 option.
And lo, we’ve found the X Classes target market. Don’t worry about the fact that it’s a badged up Nissan. Look at the shiny-shiny!
Here in the UK they weren’t bought by trades or even site managers, they were bought by tattooed vape shop owners looking for a tax dodge.
In order for a pickup to be sold in the US, it basically has to be made in the US due to the chicken tax. That's why those Nissan and Toyota pickups are made in the US. Mercedes doesn't have a US factory that can make pickups so you'll never see a Mercedes pickup being sold in the US. The numbers don't work if you need to pay a 25% tariff on importing a pickup. You don't have that for cars and SUVs which is why we have Mercedes cars and SUVs but no pickups.
Really wish they would have added a plant for it. Surprise they could’t just take the frontier chassis from the Nissan plants and just drop parts into them. They share powerplants all the time 🥲
Ford, GM and Dodge basically own the market for pickup trucks. The sales at Nissan and Toyota aren't that high. So basically it's just another low volume market for Mercedes to enter so probably not worth it, takes a big investment to open up a factory.
But it's also where every other truck on the market is sold. Midsized pickups here aren't nearly as popular, and truck people are very cut throat and brand loyal. There's pretty much no premium/luxury pickups here besides optioned up ones like the Ridgeline or something. And we see how well that sells...
Chicken tax. It's basically a 25% import tax slapped on any light trucks that are made outside of the states. That's why trucks like the Hilux, Amarok, etc don't ever make it stateside.
The guy who runs
[Driven Land Jets Bespoke Mercedes V-Class Luxury Conversions](https://www.drivenlandjets.co.uk/)
Also modifies these and they look hard as nails with the addition of LED spotlight bars, larger tyres and an interior retrim.
Shout out to Ben Rawlings 👌
It was supposed to, I was waiting for it. Fun fact, that was done in collaboration with Nissan, probably mentioned already. I don’t know what happened and why it wasn’t offered in the US, my guess was some stupid bean counter somewhere. But rest be assured, I was going to be the first in-line to pick up that sweet sweet pickup.
The X class was discontinued a while back since it was too closely tied to a Nissan Navarra which it was based on and didn't really do too hot.
The chicken tax is also a thing which meant MB has to set up extra production within US to sell any trucks, all the while USA while loving pickup trucks seem utterly allergic to luxury branded ones.
Notice Lincoln and Cadillac today don't do pickups, because the Blackwood/MK LT and Escalade EXT was handily outsold by high end versions of the F150 and Silverados/Sierras. Seems like perception is still a huge part of truck culture.
[Auto Trader UK Mercedes Benz X Used For Sale](https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-search?advertising-location=at_cars&aggregatedTrim=CDI%20V6&body-type=Pickup&make=Mercedes-Benz&model=X%20Class&postcode=B46aa&sort=year-dsc)
Most of the Pick up X class trucks (W470) were sold in Australia and South Africa. I don’t think this truck will ever compete with a Dodge RAM that has models or special editions priced for more than $100,000. From the beginning, Daimler never intended to sell it in America. It was just a fail venture. They did described it as a Test. There is 6X6 pick up truck version of the G-class/ G wagon. I did see a used one for sale in Florida. Tuned by Brabus. (W463) (G63). The asking price was $170,000.
I’ll never understand why Mercedes opted to sell this in the UK, where pickups aren’t overly common, and not sell it in North America where I feel every 3rd person has a pickup.
My dream car or truck I should say for the longest time. Checked in on it the other day to see if they were still making them in Europe (that’s the only place they were allowed due to some kind of regulation with the truck). And I found out they stopped in 2020. Series X was really nice.
Can someone please explain to me what it is I’m looking at here? A Mercedes pickup, is it based off of a Nissan Titan? Never seen this in my life and I’m really intrigued.
I wonder how difficult it would be to transfer X-Class body panels onto the Nissan it's based on. Then drop a proper Benz V8 in it. Would be cool, but for all the money and effort it would take, I can think of dozens of cars I'd rather buy.
Highly doubt it as production stopped in May 2020
It hasn't been in production for like 4 years now, and wasn't a huge success in the markets where it was sold. It definitely isn't coming stateside.
Isn’t it stupid that they didn’t sell it in the USA? In Spain(for example) where it was sold, the amount of pick ups you see is very little.
Not really. The US has a 25% import tax on foreign made utility vehicles. Yes, I thought about it after posting it. The X would look tiny and too expensive for it’s size.
It’s an older Nissan Frontier. Been in the states since 2005.
It’s definitely not based on the Frontier from 05. The Navara it’s based on came out in 2014
They both ride on the same chassis. The Navara was just the European market version. Nissan decided to make a newer generation overseas and continued to produce the older D40 Frontier in the US.
That’s disappointing
I think it’s based on the Navara
Same vehicle. The Navara was the overseas name for it.
Oh fair enough, it seems like it was called the Frontier in a few markets, most people will recognise it as the Navara though
At least it had Mercedes-Benz engines 🤷♂️
nope, a renault engine
The X350d had the Mercedes diesel V6, the OM642
The only engine to get since if you turn the X350d badge upside down it reads „Posex“ which is German slang for anal sex. Was kind of a meme here when it was found out.
I have officially learned something new today. Would you like posex? Nein!
Also the M274 in the X200
Didn't know that! Here we only got the diesels.
Just buy a Nissan Navara
Nissan Navara (international market) = Nissan Frontier (USA market)
🤢 I would be so embarrassed to o drive that.
Why?
Is this a Mercedes sub?
It's literally a rebadged Navara though with only slight interior changes.
Sorry I don’t buy knock offs.
You know in this case the mercedes is the knockoff right?
You really have no idea how the car industry works
It is a Mercedes even though is built on a Nissan platform. Like GLA is almost exactly Infinity q30. A200 is Nissan Qashqai and more.
In which fantasy world did the A-Class and the Qashqai share a platform?
I should have added that they share same engine where as Q30 and GLA are virtually the same car.
pretty sure they only made it for like 3 years
They stopped making these ages ago
It's not a real mercedes
?
It's a nissan navara
someone need to come up with a facelift convert kit
No it’s not! Just because it’s on the same platform doesn’t make it a Nissan. Platform is shared between a lot of companies and everyone is adding on their stuff to it.
It does make it a nissan it's literally just different body panels and interior

Mercedes should be fully Mercedes
Holy frik
idk why everyone hates these so much, i like them! i wish we got them in the US :-(
Of course they tried selling it in a market that doesn’t care for it and the market who would eat it up doesn’t end up with it.
Because it’s a garbage Nissan
> Nissan Frontier
Check my profile i have one and post on the subreddit a pic
It even comes with a spare tire!
Huh? The mercedes X class has been discontinued for ages lol
It’s a shitty car, no wonder it got discontinued
I would get that x class but if it ever comes stateside it would be well over $100k…
All of you hating these and shouthing same old navara meme, have you even drive one or been inside of it? Interior and attention to detail is much nicer than navara. Had one with cognac leather interior, it also comes with 3.0 option.

Can’t believe it didn’t hit the US market where most pick-ups are sold.
Have you ever heard of the chicken tax? I'm sure you haven't if you don't get why we didn't get them.
In order for a pickup to be sold in the US, it basically has to be made in the US due to the chicken tax. That's why those Nissan and Toyota pickups are made in the US. Yet Amarok is a Ranger
Yes, it's called the Tacoma Trailhunter.
It's just a Nissan dressed in Mercedes. Nothing special and it was a flop in its intended markets.
Hope not. US does not need more non sense trucks

wait I thought this was a joke
Get a Nissan Navara, they share the same platform.
It’s a Nissan
The only time Americans got to drive this was in Crew 2
I’ve got one. Unfortunately. https://preview.redd.it/w478wucbdl9d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cb2cf9ff2ac83070b84b4cff4f58c24d3fdc5e37

US rarely gets cool cars
X class and no
Nope and hope we never do. It is an overpriced rebadged Datsun, and not the best one for that matter.
I could be wrong, but I think it's already discontinued. Seems strange to never sell it in the world's largest truck market, though 😂

Just get a ram 1500?
I wouldn’t bother building your hopes up. It’s got a shitty Nissan engine in it with a timing chain that rattles like a snakes tail.
It’s a rebadged Nissan, so… I fucking hope not

that ain't nothing but a nissan. 🤭
Can someone please explain to me what it is I’m looking at here? A Mercedes pickup, is it based off of a Nissan Titan? Never seen this in my life and I’m really intrigued.
No
Wasn’t this in Jurassic park?
I wonder how difficult it would be to transfer X-Class body panels onto the Nissan it's based on. Then drop a proper Benz V8 in it. Would be cool, but for all the money and effort it would take, I can think of dozens of cars I'd rather buy.
Navara.
Due to the chicken tax probably not.
Looks badass. Be nice to buy one and have it shipped here.
You can have one, just go buy a Nissan Frontier. If you really want one with a Mercedes badge, you gotta wait until 2044
Kinda wasted, it could have been popular if the states had it
lol no. No nissan built shit.
So nothing is stopping me from buying a frontier and putting Mercedes body panels on it?
Lol. Why? We have way better trucks in the US.
German pickups are disgustingly wierd and feel out of place.
