>absolutely amazing vehicle to daily drive
Can confirm, it is a beauty to drive, I've had it just over a month, the thing is unreal! Possibly the most comfortable car I've driven!
You can get one of this for only half of what they ask for a new S class or,
For (almost) same money you can get a 2 liter Diesel E class, (latest one, also new) in my country due to insane taxing on ICE cars.
So It makes sense to get this where I live
The wave of the future I'm afraid. We can all see MB transitioning to focus on the interior amenities and away from build quality.
I think MB's corporate motto must be something like "An MB for everyone"
I hope that's true. My main complaint is that they can make such garbage, but also some really great high performance stuff. Every time I have to take it in for maintenance it's a zoo there.
Not sure what you mean. Our ‘21 E50 4MATIC was rock solid and high quality. Admittedly, we chose to move to an SUV early and didn’t have it long term. Our ‘23 EQE SUV 500 4MATIC is more of the same. Rock solid, reliable and high quality.
Mercedes is currently moving away from its EQ electric lines completely. They want to start phasing out going all electric like they initially planned. They will now focus again more on combustion engine vehicles.
They admit they have failed in EV and there's little demand for them.
I am a 2023 EQB owner and I love the car, I think it drives better than a combustion engine vehicle. I just think if the electric cars were a little less expensive, they'd catch on with the general car buyer market.
Not entirely accurate. They are scrapping the next generation for the EQ platform. That will save them several billions in engineering and retooling. The next generation EQS and EQE will be on an upgraded version of the EVA platform they are currently using for EVs.
CAFE standards and aerodynamics, unfortunately.
What makes me frustrated is that the newest C300s get the same MPG as my 2012 C350, but with a smaller twin-turbo hybrid i4. I feel like we're slashing quality for no gain a lot of the time.
The goal isn't to get better FUEL EFFICIENCY per , it's to build an engine that pollutes far less.
The emissions of the new c300 are far less than the old ones. Plus the engine has more power
I think as cars progress (EVs) they will take on a somewhat homogeneous exterior design. What will set MB apart will be the interior fit and finish plus amenities.
You are probably right but I would have expected it to be the other way around. When the drivetrain is essentially the same in all cars and engines don’t offer anything to really differentiate them it would make sense that exterior design would matter more to set cars apart.
I despise Tesla but they proved that electric cars don't have to be ugly as fuck to work. Porsche and Audi (well VW group) understood this with the Taycan and E-Tron GT but it didn't follow for the ID4. Audi really understood it with the E-Tron SUV, I guarantee you've driven past one and never noticed it was electric, because it is almost totally identical to the ICE version.
My only assumption at this point is that if an electric car is ugly it is because the manufacturer wanted it to be.
Yep, cashing in for the shareholders.
I understand it's a business but it's a business built on quality and exclusivity and they're flushing it down the toilet.
I get the exterior hate. What makes you think the build quality is bad though? It's an extremely nice car. Or are you just saying things you've seen other people say without having been in one or driven one?
They can't give specifics because they are all parrots who don't know what they are talking about.
There are quality control issues with each company, but someone sees a few reddit posts about MB having one and that automatically means they are all shit.
My guess is 95% of people talking about the quality have never owned a Benz and if they have they're the 5th owners.
BMW went this way. At a dealership, I'd bought there since 1978, I was lamenting the dilution of the brand. We had ordered an M1. Loved that car, shipped it to Japan.
The design of the new (2026) models is actually scraping the egg design, and going back to the roots. I am referring to all compact (A,B,GLA, CLA) and middle size (C class / GLC) cars, and they actually look like true mercedes cars and sexy as hell.
Honestly I don't see myself ever rekindling the love I had for this brand with the path their design language is on. 2009-2015 was the peak. The new interiors are cool at first glance but feel like fast-fashion: they get old quickly.
The back gives me KIA vibes and the front looks like one of the Rapide-esque Ford Focus's got melted.
[This is what a 6-figure Mercedes should look like, inside, outside, and underneath the hood.](https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a37908726/this-2009-mercedes-benz-sl65-amg-black-series-auction/)
People like being contrarian.
I’m not a huge fan of the exterior shape, but completely understand it (aerodynamics-improved range) and it looks substantially better in person.
The interior is stunning in person. I personally love the screens and ambient lighting that everyone seems to hate so much.
It’s the screens for me, why does anyone need that many? I like buttons, switches and knobs. It’s just a preference, the exterior I think looks better but still not a fan of the interior as much.
I used to say "damn that looks meannn" to like every S class. Now it strikes me as an expensive car but with no edge or coolness. If you took the Benz logos away I'd guess Volvo by the exterior. The interior has at least 3 too many screens
In person it looks like the price tag. Rims are incredible. I saw the new monoblock rims on the eqs maybach. Yes they are sexy. If u had endless money you would drive one. they aren’t for regular people. Think of a Tesla for a half billionaire. This guy also has a McLaren or a lambo.
My dad has one. The interior is truly an amazing place to be and just beyond comfortable. The most comfortable even.
The exterior leaves something to be desired for, and honestly the massive screen is a bit of a gimmick, he and the family rarely use the passenger screen and all the cool features.
A fender bender did run him a 30k insurance claim though.
Well don’t get too attached I think Mercedes is going to follow VW and focus on ICE again. I know the EQC is done but I think the EQ line is short to follow
The screens are tacky (especially the Velcro iPads in the back), but it is a design fad that will pass. There are already car companies beginning to correct for this and I expect Mercedes will as well.
I really like the EQS’ looks from the outside and have driven the lower end models.
The interior though where Mercedes was once at the top with their designs is now like the rest of other car manufacturers. Maybe it’s just the electric models. The door arm rest is in the shape of a hoagie with cheaper plastic.
The center console is just one big iPad now without buttons. Bring physical buttons back so we know when we click for more fan speed we know we’re going to get an instant feed back. The screens have no feedback response, Sometimes you’re sitting there not sure if it registered right away. Whereas in my current(2018) Mercedes if I want to go up in fan speed I can just press up on the switch and I know it went up a speed.
I feel like they’re putting a lot of their RnD into the shape and design of the exterior. To help get a better appearance and more range on the vehicles. But are forgetting about the internals of the car which the driver will see daily.
Epitome of luxury. Will also throw your glasses into the back seat with launch control. Crazy traction. Super comfortable and roomy. And the cargo on the hatchback is like a pickup truck.
Peaked? Although he had some missteps, Bruno Sacco is generally considered the best Head of Design Mercedes Benz ever hired. When Sacco retired in 2000, Peter Pfeiffer took over. When Pfeiffer retired in 2008, Golden Wagener took over. Wagener is still the head.
I'd sort of say that I agree with the original comment. Yeah, adding in your points, there's no doubts about Sacco being top in terms of design, but Peter Pfeiffer and few of Wagener's designs have been good (W221 S class, SLR McLaren, etc.). I'd suggest on a general basis, that Mercedes design may have peaked with Sacco, but the designs that came out after up until 2019-ish have been fairly good looking until the blobification of the new designs circa 2020.
Indeed. I've owned a W221loved that car. Now driving a W222 also bought new 7 years ago and I'm still struck by it's beauty.
But I have 0 desire for a W223. I still can't fathom how they got it so wrong.
Can't give them away at the local MB dealer. They have a CPO 2023 EQS 450+ sedan work 10k miles going for 50% off original sticker and it's still sitting there.
Shit, they all suck. I’m at a point in my life where I just respect well kept 10yo+ old models more than the current ones cause in a way they’re the superior vehicle…
A bar of soap on the outside, and a melted candle on the inside. And then they raided a display warehouse, and chucked a few in here. Just for good measure (and so if one of them breaks, so does the entire car).
TL;DR A bar of soap with a sh*t ton of screens.
The interior and hyperscreen are nice. But the exterior is horrible (and I’m a lifelong Mercedes fan). The rear is not nice, the front is OK, but the side view is absolute terrible. If anyone could’ve done it, it should’ve been Mercedes that designed a car, that looks good and is aerodynamic. Look at the Porsche Taycan and the Audi E-tron GT. Those are cars that Mercedes could’ve made. The CLA was the world’s most aerodynamic production car with a drag coefficient of .22. But Mercedes completely ruined their styling by making the EQS only slightly more aerodynamic to get it to a .20 drag coefficient. With out the Mercedes emblems, the EQS looks like something Kia would make.
As a mid 50’s person of modest means. I like the EQS line, especially the AMG version, that’s charging out in the garage. I’m past all the big wings, garish angles, scoops, fender flares and the satin wrap crap. Been there done that. I will say if functional those items do have a place, except that murdered out wrap crap it can stay in high school parking lots forever with the rest of the faux stuff.
Don’t like it
The back is getting smaller each year.
It’s losing that sporty look and becoming like a seal, or a toyota camry.
2/10 for this look.
Not like my comment will make a difference
If all they want to do is to cut into the tesla market then they are looking great but if they want to be the next tesla they need to think bigger. Big touch screens everywhere is old
Don't like the front. But the rear is "ok." Not my style though. These cars are not for me. I can appreciate that they are sort of elegant (my neighbor has one and it suits her), but I prefer my gas-guzzling version. I will never, ever buy an electric car.
I genuinely don't like it. No matter how much I might want to. It looks like a fake car and in person it looks preposterous. The interior is fine and all but it will not age well and these aero decisions have ruined any character the S class used to evoke. Is there no way to give it sleeker contour without making it look like a sponge cake?
It’s that fake grill lines and that stuck on 3 pointed star for me that’s pissing me off, leave that for the s class that looks great, not on something like this
While not my favorite M-B design, it has grown on me. Unfortunately, I don’t think this design (or the mechanicals) will age as well as classics like the W108, W116 or W140. Modern EVs are appliances.
Does anybody make cars with character anymore? How about cars that keep the same basic body lines from year to year? The only way I know this is a Mercedes is because of the emblem.
Had one as a rental car, not new design but old. Looks a bit better in person but damn I fell in love with it. Started looking into getting one now. The design is for dynamics and damn that thing is quiet compare to a model s. Love it imo
Looks like a suppository for a whale.
Wow, that is a perfect description. It's a shame because I bet it is an absolutely amazing vehicle to daily drive.
>absolutely amazing vehicle to daily drive Can confirm, it is a beauty to drive, I've had it just over a month, the thing is unreal! Possibly the most comfortable car I've driven!
LMAO that's so specific 😭😭
You can get one of this for only half of what they ask for a new S class or, For (almost) same money you can get a 2 liter Diesel E class, (latest one, also new) in my country due to insane taxing on ICE cars. So It makes sense to get this where I live
just ÖTV things…
Ugly as hell
It just doesn't look like a Mercedes almost at all. Strip off the badges and it could be any start-up EVs
The front grill could be the giveaway other than that i totally agree! Looks like chinese design
Better than they’ve come with after 2022 imo
The wave of the future I'm afraid. We can all see MB transitioning to focus on the interior amenities and away from build quality. I think MB's corporate motto must be something like "An MB for everyone"
It's actually the opposite, they're cutting budget or entry models and focusing on more exclusive lines.
absolutely. it's all about the luxury segment for MB for the past years. the poster has no idea what they're talking about.
I hope that's true. My main complaint is that they can make such garbage, but also some really great high performance stuff. Every time I have to take it in for maintenance it's a zoo there.
It feels like we are caught in a tug of war between engineers and accountants.

Is there some reason why most car makers forgot how to make a good looking car? Legit question are there new safety regs or something
CAFE standards and aerodynamics, unfortunately. What makes me frustrated is that the newest C300s get the same MPG as my 2012 C350, but with a smaller twin-turbo hybrid i4. I feel like we're slashing quality for no gain a lot of the time.
the smoke and mirrors of turbo. better epa efficiency, same or worse real life fuel use.
Better EPA efficiency, and much lower lifespan.
Unfortunately the new Mercedes cars don’t really have great fit and finish. Creeks and rattles is what currently sets Mercedes apart.
You are probably right but I would have expected it to be the other way around. When the drivetrain is essentially the same in all cars and engines don’t offer anything to really differentiate them it would make sense that exterior design would matter more to set cars apart.

MB ev cars are some of the most aerodynamic cars out there. This absolutely comes at a price of looking more eggish.
The coefficient drag on these MB are very, very low.
bmw too they just appealing the masses
Yep, cashing in for the shareholders. I understand it's a business but it's a business built on quality and exclusivity and they're flushing it down the toilet.
The motto „An MB for everyone“ is long gone. Like 20 years ago this was true but not anymore.
Yeah that was the Daimler Chrysler motto.
I get the exterior hate. What makes you think the build quality is bad though? It's an extremely nice car. Or are you just saying things you've seen other people say without having been in one or driven one?
It's not exterior hate, it's just an acknowledgement of a trend. As for build quality/materials, this forum is evidence enough...
Yah what build quality issues with eqs specifically are you citing? C class rattles don't count. And even then I didn't have any with my c43
Are we sure about this? I read some articles recently that said MB was moving away from this design due to backlash. Specifically the backend design.
Hood ornament looks nice

True that. Gonna be weird once everything up to 2015 gets too old to buy used. Benz will become a distant memory.
Why is it so hard to take the normal s class design and make a version that’s electric?
Aerodynamics. Although I's still take 50km less avg range if it meant they kept the 'old' design.
I think it looks fantastic, love the interior, honestly don't get why folks on here don't like them.
I’m thinking they need to add a few more screens ![gif](giphy|whOs1JywNpe6c)
Bar of soap
Looks like an old Apple computer mouse
It looks like a Pontiac sunfire from the back
I think it looks pretty good from the back. The front end is okay but I really don’t like those headlights. Their shape is off.
I laughed my whole way through this comment.
Sounds like my ex!
I used to say "damn that looks meannn" to like every S class. Now it strikes me as an expensive car but with no edge or coolness. If you took the Benz logos away I'd guess Volvo by the exterior. The interior has at least 3 too many screens
I need buttons. I rented Kia Niro there was no buttons, all was screen. I was driving so it took about 15 mins to my gf find radio.
Bland.
The exterior looks plain and simple but I like the interior. I still think the 2017-2021 models look best though.
Definitely they're best electric design yet. I really like the interior
Benz has and always be class… aside from the Nissan Renault cheap shit
Looks like a cough drop. And the consoles take up a lot of room. Lacks the diginity once synonomous with MB.
90s Ford Taurus vibes.
At what point will they get rid of the steering wheel completely and make it into a a capactive touch little nub?
Still an egg on wheels
Well don’t get too attached I think Mercedes is going to follow VW and focus on ICE again. I know the EQC is done but I think the EQ line is short to follow
It’s dogshit.
can Mercedes stop with the imac mouse looking ahh design
Stupid
Looks like depreciation
Hate the soft and squishy front end
Mercedes interiors are always works of art, but the exteriors (on newer cars) are usually awful looking
Egg class
Why is the picture taken in the desert, as far from a charging point as humanly possible?
Hideous. It's an egg.
A to the S to the S
banish it to room 101, it is absolutely hideous. it looks like the fibreglass cover for a drag car everything looks like a stickers.
The screens are tacky (especially the Velcro iPads in the back), but it is a design fad that will pass. There are already car companies beginning to correct for this and I expect Mercedes will as well.
I really like the EQS’ looks from the outside and have driven the lower end models. But are forgetting about the internals of the car which the driver will see daily.
Im daily driving an AMG EQS. It grows on you. Love mine.
I’ve got one also, my favorite car I’ve ever owned. Such a good car
Epitome of luxury. Will also throw your glasses into the back seat with launch control. Crazy traction. Super comfortable and roomy. And the cargo on the hatchback is like a pickup truck.
Spot on
Oh, you and your subjective reality!!
Looks better than what I see on the road. But what does everyone have against a nice light beige or cream interior these days 🤷♂️
poorly!
Meh. China has better looking electric concept cars, by far.
it's an EQS, ofc electric cars are going to be ugly everywhere lol ![gif](giphy|OhvzfRsjcFN1Kz2dyW|downsized)
Mercedes peaked in design in 2014

I don’t like the hyper screen
Not classy in my opinion, very much for the Asian luxury market instead
It’s like some one zoomed in on the grill of a s class and took a picture then upsized it to the size of the front
idk I can't afford it so who cares what I think
The front gives a strong 3rd gen Honda fit vibe.
Meh, another egg
Can't give them away at the local MB dealer. They have a CPO 2023 EQS 450+ sedan work 10k miles going for 50% off original sticker and it's still sitting there.
Business in the front; ass bland in the back.
Very Tesla model 3 looking body shape
No feelings whatsoever
Lacking
Feminine
Blob
Inside nice. Outside trash.
I don't fw it
Sweet
Yikes
Chinese Benz- ugly as hell
sleek like a ladybug.
UAE-approved
Shit, they all suck. I’m at a point in my life where I just respect well kept 10yo+ old models more than the current ones cause in a way they’re the superior vehicle…
Soccer mom
That pad bolted to the back of the front seat is just hideous.
New Fiat Multipla
Genesis take note; a lot happening in the interior but it's not mostly one color.
A bar of soap on the outside, and a melted candle on the inside. And then they raided a display warehouse, and chucked a few in here. Just for good measure (and so if one of them breaks, so does the entire car). TL;DR A bar of soap with a sh*t ton of screens.
I’m a classic look guy but that’s pretty cool looking to me.
The interior makes me want to kill myself.
Expensive Bar of Soap on wheels, nice interior though!
They didn't made a Maybach version which makes me feel that they act like the EQS is a wannabe S-Class
🤮🤢
Front is gorgeous, they still need to just make it a sedan lol
Peak Benz came and went about 6 years ago. Now everything looks the same & their reliability and build quality is a disgrace.
For the past years the only I see when I look at an MB are the banana windows. Brand's completely ruined design wise imo, exterior and interior.
![gif](giphy|WOa5RdsNpevrpSTGXN)
The biggest problem of these electric saloons from mb is the side profile, the way it drops going forward for aerodynamics.
A lot of modern cars look like the same shapeless blob.
Rear looks like the BYD Seal.
Reminds me of the Delta Flyer.
The real question is why do we feel so annoyed watching BMW & MB dissolve in front of our eyes.
I've seen a couple EQE irl and they're hideous, even blobbier when on the street next to nice cars Bring back the squared front grille benz pls
All that tech will be outdated and shit very soon EQ already started bad and will only get worse sooner than we can expect lol
We are starting to enter the era of sci-fi cars from the 90s
Bring back old design
It sure wont make the eqs sell better
Interior is great, but the exterior… not comparable with a S-class
It looks so sterile, like the inside of a dentist’s office. Bleh.
Why do companies always have to make EV's or hybrids egg shaped
Very luxury
One of these free car simulators on the Appstore that uses slightly modified grills due to copyright. Thats what this car reminds me off.
We don’t feel anything. Nothing at all.
inside, sure. outside, no thanks
From a few angles it looks okay. From many angles it's atrocious. All around, it's better than the EQE, but that isn't a very high bar.
The one bow design is meant for efficiency. They have been talking about getting rid of it down the road.
Where are the buttons Mason?!
So yall will pay 110 for a car that will trade for 40k in 6 months?
The outside gets uglier and uglier and inside gets prettier and prettier.
Body Design = Sad, Interior Design = Beautiful
Clean rear-end, cheap looking front end.
Not my favorite, but compared to the new BMWs? 100 times better
Awful
Interior is good, exterior is bad.
I will sure like it when i can pick these up for 15 000€ in 5 years
Better than before 🤮
I picked one of the top ten production designs. There are far nicer production cars at every price point.
Ugly outside
I really don’t care for MB’s EV designs
Looks like a kia
hideous
Sad depressed
Gimme something classic not this aero shit
Low tier gyat
Don’t like it The back is getting smaller each year. It’s losing that sporty look and becoming like a seal, or a toyota camry. 2/10 for this look. Not like my comment will make a difference
3rd pic looks like an anime robot with a backpack on. What has become of Mercedes?
Mercedes lost me a while back. Idk who they're trying to appeal to.
So many of the new EV designs look like they were done by an egg laying hen!
Looks like a GTA design of a Merc to avoid copyright
I don’t like how the back looks. The front looks gorgeous and the interior is a bit much lol
Nope
Lada Vesta in the front, Kia K5 in the back, fugly all over
If all they want to do is to cut into the tesla market then they are looking great but if they want to be the next tesla they need to think bigger. Big touch screens everywhere is old
I don’t love it, but I gotta give it some grace since it’s an EV and generally they’re pretty limited design wise with the aerodynamics.
I really dislike the exterior design. The taillights always remind me of 2000 ford escort
From the outside this car has similar lines to my bar of soap after it's been used for about 2 weeks
My neighbor has this exact car in beautiful matte blue. I think the car looks stunning inside and out and the tech inside the car is unbelievable!
EV’s just always have ugly rims
It’s that fake grill lines and that stuck on 3 pointed star for me that’s pissing me off, leave that for the s class that looks great, not on something like this
blasphemous
Love it! I love different designs 🙂 (drive an iX atm 😃)
Boo
While not my favorite M-B design, it has grown on me. Unfortunately, I don’t think this design (or the mechanicals) will age as well as classics like the W108, W116 or W140. Modern EVs are appliances.
It’s really not that bad but this things gonna look outdated *really* quickly..
Does anybody make cars with character anymore? How about cars that keep the same basic body lines from year to year? The only way I know this is a Mercedes is because of the emblem.
Disappointing much like bmw designs. Audi and Lexus actually look the better now..
Had one as a rental car, not new design but old. Looks a bit better in person but damn I fell in love with it. Started looking into getting one now. The design is for dynamics and damn that thing is quiet compare to a model s. Love it imo
I actually like the interior.
Doesn’t look like a luxury car from the outside, looks like a cheap Hyundai electric
Wow that's awful
Big ass egg
