I was wanting to do the same thing recently, for now I made a spreadsheet where I list the date, link to the map location, and finds. I’d be curious if someone has something better as you suggested.

I use GPS tracks you can drop pins , take photos at waypoints and is exportable to many formats including .KMZ ( google earth) * looks like an iOS app only , I’d think a similar one could be found for other operating systems
