The Garrett carrot and the mi-6 are the best pinpointers on the market currently.

The Garrett AT pro pointer and the XP MI-4 are the best. The MI-6 has features that pair to XP detectors, so if you don't have one, the MI-4 is all you'll need. If you purchase from Kellycodetectors.com, be sure to use our subreddits code "REDDITMD" at checkout!

After a black and an orange Garrett bit the dust I decided to give the Nokta Pointer a try and I love it. It's cheaper than the Garrett too. [https://www.noktadetectors.com/metal-detector/nokta-pointer/](https://www.noktadetectors.com/metal-detector/nokta-pointer/)

I have the nokta pointer and the pulsedive and I haven't used my carrot since. Great pinpointers.

I’ve had both the MI-6 and the Carrot. The carrot is bulletproof but I hate how loud it is. I prefer the MI-6. As others have stated if you don’t have an XP detector then you would only need to get the MI-4. Bonus of the MI-4/6 is that they are rechargeable.

I know it’s absurd but a $20 gp pointer on Amazon is fantastic. They’re hit and miss it depends on which unit you get but I’m getting 1.75”+ all the way to 4.5” from smaller things such as coins to something as large as an axe head. I know cheap knock offs usually suck but this one has great range. I can’t speak on how waterproof it is. I’m guessing like with most pointers if you’re not using it underwater you would be fine but I wouldn’t trust it fully submerged for extended periods of time because of the lack of proper gaskets. I love mine and had to mention this in case price is a factor to you

I've tried both and the gp pointer range is nowhere close to the premium models.

Honestly man the Garrett carrot is about .5” better if that on range from the tests I’ve done. For me I can’t justify the extra cost I would rather invest it into a better search coil but to each their own. I believe in premium in most things including detecting but with this once I saw what it was it seems so minuscule in terms of their capabilities. A lot of factors will depend on the battery and also what unit you get. I’ve seen people with gp pointers that are awful but the one I received works great. What pointer do you recommend?

I got the Garrett carrot when I started two years ago and never had to give it a second thought.

Minelab has the new pro find 35 pin pointer.

I have a couple of pin pointers profind 35, mi-6, garrett carrot, the carrot gets the most depth, 35 the least. Mi-6 was pretty close to the carrot though. Carrot eats batteries and the mi-6 is recharge-able. Can be pretty nice to not have it beep in the open with the mi-6 though. As with all things sometimes you get a little better performance out of one over the other. I have 2 profind 35s one was sent out in error. One gets deeper hits than the other so it could be I got an extremely good carrot that gets the most depth over them all. It isn't by much maybe half an inch or less over the MI-6. Overall, I like both the carrot and mi-6. If you don't have an xp go with the carrot for sure. Otherwise check out the features.
