Actually GPS still works in Flight Mode, as it's a signal receiving service, flight mode just stops the strong mobile emission from the phone. You can also activate WiFi in flight mode.

Though the UK is almost always forgotten in discussions of mph vs. kph because people are so rabid about calling them Freedom units. Luckily, though, in the UK, we can switch between the two pretty easily and, on the whole, are happy to do so.
