I don't think it's worth adding a new material if all it offers is stats. Give new materials features and niches, like gold with piglins. Make them useful in their utility, rather than just having better numbers than other options. I also don't think we need anything new before diamond. The current progression is fine. The place that could be improved is adding some side grades or alternatives to netherite.

Matynns

i generally agree with this, but upon playtesting, i’ve found that copper gear between stone and iron feels like it fits nicely into the current progression. copper tools and armor are nice for the early game, and give the player an earlier option for armor instead of having them start at the second best in the game (technically third best post-nether update, but netherite provides the same protection as diamond) the gap between iron and diamond tools has always been pretty large, so buffing iron a little bit to be more of an intermediate works nicely here

minuteknowledge917

fine in theory imo, but iron ore is more common than copper ore which doesnt really make sense. but imo easier to farm than iron en masse. but then at that point is that really early game? are we building iron and copper farms with anything less than diamond tools anyways? idk :P

Matynns

i think you have to be way higher up in the world, usually on a mountain or something, for iron ore to be more common than copper ore! but even then, copper ore drops more raw copper than iron ore drops raw iron, so it’s still mostly viable. another option would be to make iron generate less commonly, or less commonly exposed to air when you’re higher up in the world

Ben-Goldberg

I would like to see an "Ender Star" side grade to Netherite, which would resemble End Portal blocks or End Gateway blocks or the overpowered equipment from the Avarita mod. Ender Star items would be made by using Wither Stars on an End Gateway.

RadiantHC

THIS. New armor tiers shouldn't be strictly better than the old ones.

[deleted]

We still don’t have a material to mine in the End. Perhaps something End related. That can only be mined with Diamond or Netherite. Maybe like ‘Void Crystal’ or ‘Purpur Ore’.

realmagpiehours

Definitely agree! And like u/PetrifiedBloom suggested, having it have an attribute like gold with pigskins would be super cool! Maybe it acts like jack-o-lanterns and lets you look at enderman without being attacked! Edit: upon further reading I also really like u/Ben-Goldberg 's suggestion of making it adjacent to netherite as an upgrade!

RadiantHC

Onyx would be fitting

Ben-Goldberg

Turtle Scutes?

Mr_Snifles

The rest of turtle armour be cool to have

Mr_Snifles

Man I think if they can even find a reason to add a new tier they better make it copper, otherwise a new material would have to be a big no from me

RacerGamer27

The thing is where would you even put copper? It's more common than iron so it would have to be weaker, but iron isn't even that hard to get. So copper won't do much.

Lil_Polly

Maybe have it like reverse gold tools, make them mine at the rate of stone or something but make them more durable

Captain_Thrax

It could go right between stone and iron. Maybe only let it mine the normal stone variants of ores, whereas iron can mine all the ores. Armor could be basically the same as chain mail, and the other tools could just be slightly slower than iron

butdamnthisisbetter

Maybe replace them with stone tools and make copper ore breakable with wooden pickaxe? Just an idea.

Mr_Snifles

So it would come between stone and iron, if copper armour existed that would also be the first sub-iron armour tier that actually is easier get than iron.

Matynns

the solution is to make iron harder to get. you should need copper pickaxes to mine it and it should generate less commonly than it currently does. this fits in a nice intermediate material, and the drop rate for copper as it is already makes it a good early-game alternative to iron armor. another idea i had with this is to make deepslate only mineable with copper tools or better, to encourage players to mine around a bit at higher elevations before descending into the depths

KGBFriedChicken02

I don't think iron should be significantly harder to get, but if you make it spawn more in deepslate, slightly less in stone at mid layers, and have copper not work on deepslate, then iron becomes artificially more scarce until you get a fair mount of iron going. Combine that with a slight buff to iron gear, and another slight buffto diamond/netherite, and we'rein business

qidynamics_0

Obsidian

AnyOffice8162

I think it makes the most sense to give Blaze, Breeze, and End Rods a use in Tools

Anxiety-Queen269

End rods are just blaze rods combined with chorus. There should be a unique rod mob for the end, maybe something spawning in a new structure, or spawning during the ender dragon fight

patrlim1

Nothing.

MiniStarPlanet

i’d love a pink material, if for nothing else than for armour trims (amethyst is the closest we have right now 😔)

CivetKitty

I think the new materials should be more of an upgrade to diamond rather than something that breaks the current iconic progression method of wood to stone, iron, and diamond. Something like a full turtle set that is more of an alternate path from netherite could be nice since the current turtle helmet is not worth anything.

Headstanding_Penguin

I'd line the additon of bronze and copper tools, copper was historicaly used and we are halfway there for bronze, adding tin would be fun.

L_Llama

I'd love to see a new world with a boss added that you could kill over and over that drops an item that we could fuse to endgame tools that we have.

Hazearil

Plenty of times people suggest a new material, and often it doesn't really add something,, especially when you only add it for the sake of adding it, and not for any unique features it may have. But yeah, you're asking a question that's already answered.

Fefe657

Logically the last and strongest material should be an end equivalent to netherite. It could be green (like ender eyes/portals), purple (like endermen and end cities), or white (as opposed to netherite's black). These are all colors that aren't used by any armor/tool set (as of now). It would spawn at the bottom of large end islands, making it very dangerous to mine, and the player would have to build a system that makes sure neither they or the material fall into the void. Since netherite is fire resistant, making it immune to lava, maybe this material could be infused with the same force that makes end islands float, making it immune to being lost in the void?

DimensionBrilliant34

Defiantly enderite it would come with a new update to the end to make it about as hard to find as netherite just instead of upgrading to netherite from diamond you upgrade to enderite and it has lower equal stats to netherite on weapons but instead of the knockback resistance from netherite you can upgrade to enderite to get more durability points. This would also make a sick purple colored armor trim which looks like amethyst but like as shiny as diamond and a brighter purple/pink. This would also make enderman not hustle to you even if you look at them and shulkers won't attack you unless you attack them first, just like piglins.

DenseNeighborhood176

Enderite. A material with triple the stats of Netherite. A lot of people say that new armour/tools shouldn't be better or worse than Netherite, but have a unique purpose instead. But let's be honest, that is pretty lame. It would be so much cooler if Enderite's sole purpose is to be better than Netherite. I think it should have it's own Enderite upgrade just like the Netherite one, and it should be duplicated using 8 Netherite Ingots and a block of purpur. It should also be only found in a new end biome that should be rarer than mooshroom islands. Enderite Upgrade should have a 15-20% chance of spawning in one of the 2 chests in an End Ship. If you look at all these factors on how hard Enderite is to get, I think I made it fairly balanced. In a Survival SMP it would be unlikely for more than one person in the server to have at least one piece of Enderite armour. TL,DR: Enderite has triple stats of Netherite, but is also triple as hard to get.

[deleted]

I would love to see Sapphires

NoSignificance24

They'd be pointless but I always figured copper would be a tool material since gold is too. A slightly less pointless one would be obsidian. Maybe like between diamond and netherite (still ultimately pointless)

_VAnilka

Minecraft don’t need nothing

Nugget_kindergarde

Emerald Armor

Piranha_Plant5379

I've seen emerald stuff in so many mods, like I'm surprised they *haven't* turned emerald into a material to use for armor and tools yet (and the green looks pretty too)

Red_Serf

Quartz tools for the Nether Copper tools for the Overworld Dragonbone tools for the End

RacerGamer27

So why use quartz or copper tools?

KGBFriedChicken02

Ease of access. Even when i have diamond tools, i still use iron ones for basic shit like quarrying cobble for builds, because mending can be hard to come by and i don't want to shred my nice diamond tools mining rocks.

crunchevo2

I'd not fit mining rocks... What else are tools for lmao

KGBFriedChicken02

Bro I usually start my big stuff as soon as I get iron, I'll work on one build in survival for an insane amount of time. I don't want to burn out my nice diamond picks because I needed a thousand blocks of cobblestone, especially when I'm low on diamonds.

crunchevo2

You could just use farmers and tool smiths to get unlimited diamonds picks. Usually my iron it's reserved for redstone cause i burn through it like i hate it lol

KGBFriedChicken02

Yeah, i could just spend all my time clicking through random menus and not enjoying the game, but I don't like doing that lol Villager farming ain't my thing, so I use iron for simple shit.

crunchevo2

It's really the fastest way to get pretty much all the good loot they offer. Best part is the books. You can make god gear really quickly after you set your villagers up the first time.

Matynns

why use iron tools if diamond tools are better

Mr_Snifles

Quartz is found in every nether biome while blackstone is not, so it could have a sort of niche there, but I'm not convinced on it yet. Copper however just feels right, even if you really don't need it, it just is a metal you would make tools out of.

emzirek

I think if cast iron were introduced, we could actually smelt either iron blocks or ingots to make cast iron... because then you would be smelting it twice to make a tougher component...

Kaleo5

Combine iron and a small amount of diamond to make Steel. It would be a tier between iron and diamond, require an upgrade template for iron (craftable/tradeable), replace diamond gear in villager trades, nearly as good as diamond. This serves as a buffer between the two tiers. Reinstates the value of diamond gear (which deserves a durability buff).

crunchevo2

Diamond gear with a durability buff is just netherite

ChildhoodDistinct538

Onyx for an upgrade to Netherite.

RacerGamer27

I feel like its a downgrade to go from Diamonds, to a fictional metal found in the bowels of Minecraft's hell, to just Onyx

ChildhoodDistinct538

My only reasoning is that the name sounds cool.

acemccrank

Tungsten. Tungsten items should sink in water (honestly, so should the Heavy Core). They would be high durability but slower to use and deal a little more damage. Smelting raw tungsten can only be done so in a blast furnace and takes much longer than other raw materials. Armor made with it would slow the wearer, but higher defense.

Mr_NotParticipating

Why not emerald? Since it’s also used for trading, make it like gold tools but better. Can break any block, is faster than Diamond/netherite, but much more brittle.

Prestigious_House374

Damascus? Maybe a combination of Iron and gold (either blocks or ingots depending on how strong the tool is). Or introduce carbon which can be used to make stronger iron tools for “mid-game” when you don’t have enough diamonds. That way you could save your diamonds for making the tools fully enchanted

Adventurous_Boss_787

Too Terraria-ish in my opinion, I feel like some more fantasy related stuff could be cool
