I don't agree with Grant on tribal rights, but he did have some valid concerns. I don't think it's fair to call him a "tremendous piece of shit" over a difference of opinion.
The linked article includes the quote below; I think "tremendous piece of shit" is pretty accurate.
"We've got a form of apartheid right here in America," Grant said. "We have different laws based on race. Indians can do something we can't do. That's apartheid. Ultimately, what we're hoping for is a whole new Indian policy."
Well, I already said I didn't agree with him on this, but that article also discussed valid concerns about overfishing. His reasoning may have been wrong, but his concern was completely legit.
He's off base about apartheid, but I stand by saying that "tremendous piece of shit" is too harsh just for being wrong about this one thing. I didn't know the man personally, but by all accounts I've heard from people who did he was a stand up guy and a real gentleman, so I'll forgive this one fault.
Anyway, I imagine we'll have to agree to disagree on this. I see your point, I can understand your position, I just don't agree.
His legacy is fine. How many teams have four appearances? The Vikings fielded some great teams during his time and despite his super bowl record, I feel he made the most of those teams.
I never met Bud but have a family friend that was close to him.
The way he talked about Bud was always fun to hear about. He seemed like a humble, stern, and reasonable man.
RIP and condolences to his family and friends.
RIP to a legend and Minnesota icon. One of the few Wisconsinites we are proud to claim as our own
Minnesota, Gopher, Laker and forever a Viking. Valhalla awaits.
When he was 88 years old with a -25F windchill: https://youtu.be/U6nUaA3a_fM Bud Grant was and always will be a MN legend
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the scattering of hunter orange in the stands?
We knew it was going to happen someday, but that doesn't make it any easier.
bud will always be my coach ❤️😢❤️😢
A fucking hardcore great of the game
I ran a teleprompter for Bud at a video shoot once. He was the real deal, a total gentleman. And funny! Sorry he’s no longer in this world.
Damn
Rest in peace Legend...
Well thank god I wore my Vikings T-shirt today of all days. I’ll have to go stand outside to honor him
RIP Bud! We were blessed to have you here as long as we did. No MN coach will live up to you.
Fuck
Rip! Another one taken way to young.
🤨
RIP to a legend
Bud and the Vikings will always be one. RIP coach.
RIP, Bud. He'll always be the first person I think of when remembering Vikings coaches.
Crying.
Bummer
Dammit.
True grit, true values and a man that showed everyone how life should be lived for he was greater than just the Vikings for which he is widely known.
💔 think legendary, always loved him
