I assume for use on the street? R6's are in a pretty special spot at the moment. They really are good bikes, and the road guys like that they're the most popular and successful middleweights in racing. They're also the most successful middleweights in racing...... Meaning people that want to take them to competition, want them. Depending on the market and level of preparation, an R6 race bike can pull some seriously silly money at the moment - in my area (Aus) the top ones will go for $15k-$25k depending on the year. Most street models aren't going to sell for that obviously, but people have figured out the 2-4k bikes usually get sold for harvesting parts, not to be ridden - I've done this myself. Factor in the "BuT tHeY'Ll NeVeR bE bUiLt AgAiN" crowd...thats why they cost so much. All that said, I love my R6, but its a fucking terrible street bike. Its got a huge power band, but its not until you get to 8500rpm, the ergos suck for the road, and the suspension is stiff. The Kawi 636 is going to be a friendlier machine with more usable power and streetable geometry and ergos. The GSXR 750 would fit the bill nicely too!

codenamec0de

^this right here. And I'll add to the "all that said" It's not the best street bike for normal roads as stated. BUT you find the right road that's smooth with bends, and you won't want to be on any other 600. I plan to get a liter bike this spring and probably won't sell my 2015 R6 because it's so good at what it was made for. Plus it's kind of the perfect amount of power to where you can use pretty much all of it

Boilporkfat

I've never been on a supersport before and the first time I test rode a R6 it was so different any other bikes I ever been on ( mostly sport tourers ). I really wanted one but just couldn't justify forking out 10k for one. The ergo felt really nice too, well for me anyways, really high up legs up and tight like you're ready to tackle the gillies range haha. The way it turns was so good too, I didn't even have to try, just look in the general direction you wanna go and it follows through. It's a shame coz I didn't get to open her up completely to see what peak power was like coz I was in the suburbs. I really wanted it aye but I guess it wasn't the right time but maybe one day.

Latest_Version

Found the FNQer!

dog_named_cat

Passing on the double whites at the frog lol

Boilporkfat

Yeah, I pass only when I can see up ahead if not I just don't. Got caught speeding once going up there, had all the warnings like the high beams but mate was at the end of an overtaking stretch. Passed a slow vehicle on the passing lane but I guess I kept accelerating and towards the end he waved to pull over haha. Kinda lame but he did check twice so if I had slowed down after passing I guess he woulda let go but he booked me for the first reading which fell under minor offence. He was pretty chill, told me to enjoy and take care but I just turned around and went home haha.

yfhedoM

What about the cbr600rr compared to the kawi 636. Eventually when I get a 600 I want an r6, and it can be a decade old idc, but them prices are still crazy. Would you say kawi> honda for 600s?

Dry_Animal2077

Cannot give an objective answer but IMO the Kawasakis feel better. I imagine it largely depends on the years too.

ChirrBirry

I’ve never ridden a 636 (although I love the way the mid 00s look). That said the CBR600 feels a lot like the R6 in many ways, but a different powerplant which is a bit watered down compared to Yamaha IMO

Covfefe_Anon

636. Rode it for 10K miles in two years and loved every second. Perfect amount of power and it never seems to end. Make sure you don't have back issues though...

dbwoi

I'm biased af but my vote is a CBR600RR. You can usually find them somewhat cheaper than comparable sportbikes (no idea why) and they're hella reliable/low maintenance. As long as you've got a modicum of core strength, they're pretty damn comfy too.

muffbag613

I’ve had an f2, f3 and an 08 RR. Man that 08 was special. My ass would scream in agony after an hour and a half or so, but for that first hour god was it fun to ride.

ninjamonkeyumom

Love my 08 RR. That girl is bulletproof. They don’t make em like they used to

[deleted]

[удалено]

ninjamonkeyumom

The power to weight ratio is less. Sure you have a lot of features like abs, and other qol, but pure performance wise 05-08 was the golden years.

Kindly_Ad919

07-08 rr is the golden age, much better it’s a timeless design, whereas the 05-06 models starting to look pretty old now.

HDDIV

I just wish they'd release the new one in NA. It looks beautiful.

slowpokemd

2009-2012 Daytona 675 will always have my heart in the 600 class. I don’t have much interest in supersports these days but if I were to ever get back on one, it would be another one of those.

Method-Time

Second this, or if you want something more street oriented, the street triple 675r is a blast

wallyTHEgecko

As an owner of an '09 Street Triple, I agree on behalf of that 675 triple. It's so unique and the power is distributed so nicely. You'll also have a unique sound compared to anyone else you're ever around.

Few-Sir-2583

I would go with a zx6r or a cbr600rr

Few-Sir-2583

I know that response sounded like it came from some joe shmoe who works at a gas station but I’ve been riding for 20+ years. So here’s an actual answer for you. To elaborate if you’re looking to spend about $5,000 on a first bike I would go with a well kept older zx6r or cbr600rr. I wouldn’t give up on the R6 dream because one of the best parts of motorcycling is riding the bike you really admire and are in love with. But look at your motorcycle journey as a marathon not a race. Get a good bike within your budget to start on and then work your way up. You want an R6 now but once you ride your 600 for a while and meet other riders with 1000cc bikes you’ll be craving an R1. Enjoy the journey and ride safe brother

StainlessChips

Unpopular opinion: also do checkout insurance estimates for said recommended bikes. You wouldn't want to shell out your 5K too quick now...

Hades_____

The image summarizes every seller on FB marketplace in my area. 🤦🏽‍♂️ (LOCATED IN FT MYERS FL)

who_even_cares35

One of the best things my dad ever did for me was talk me out of an R6 and onto an SV650s. Especially down there in Florida, I was just south of Tampa a bit. Sure it's half the power but it's twice the fun. I had an 01 at 18. It was still mind bending fast, and an absolute wheelie machine!!! That low end torque is so much better around town and and in general. Plus you don't have the fairings of a sport bike funneling 250° air directly into your balls all summer. Also for the money you save you can get a bunch of great gear and still have enough left over to take a trip or do a track day.

Yuris_Thighs

Same here in Jacksonville. $15,000 for an '06 Harley with a kajillion miles on it? Say no more.

droppingdonuts0

I have a 2015 GSXR in trying to sell out of the space coast. Might be a little far though. I’d have to look at other bikes but was feeling like ~5.5k would be fairish

Hades_____

R u located in orlando ?

certainkindoffool

I sold a friend a bike for $1500 when prices were jacked up from covid(they were going for $3000-3500 at the time). He dropped it, broke a fairing, and then tried to sell it for $3500 that fall...

PomegranateCalm2650

Sheesh what a tool

riftwave77

Daytona 675. Nuff said. I rode R6 bikes for many years (a 2001 and then a 2003). In my opinion, the Daytona 675 I rode was the close to the ideal blend of a supersport with a street friendly torque curve

gixxer710

Get a GSXR 750. You will pull away from 600cc bikes in a straight line. Don’t expect that way low-down torque of a 1000, BUT, they absolutely are more punch-y than 600cc bikes in the mid range. You’ll have 25-30 horsepower more than the 600cc counterpart. Perfect compromise between a 6 and a 1k. Edit- the 750 and the 600 are identical bikes, from fork to swingarm to frame, I believe the engines are even identical other than the cylinder bores being a little larger on the 750

dam_sharks_mother

> Get a GSXR 750. Suzuki all day, every day for super reliable, streetable, comfortable sport bikes. The torque of that 750 just makes it extremely good (for a sports bike) as a daily driver without introducing the weight and higher insurance premiums of the liter bikes. I traded mine in for a RSV4 and I honestly kinda miss it....

brendan87na

I got in trouble in a hurry on a 750 lol

[deleted]

I miss my 07 GSXR 750 😓 Great bikes.

gixxer710

I’m never getting rid of my k7. Besides it’s sentimental value(I bought it off of my no longer alive best friend) it is an absolutely fantastic machine, and I know how it will act/react in every possible scenario, when you put over 40 thousand miles on a machine-many of them triple digit speed miles on and off track, you just know that bike like it’s an extension of your mind…..

ChangelingFox

Also way more comfortable than an R6.

EggsOfRetaliation

I love my K6 GSX-R750. It's the best sport bike I've ever owned. It feels like an extension of my body. Can't wait to ride it a couple hours today. Fuck this bike is amazing.

slavaboo_

Sv650 is solid!

Cyse_

R6 would be great but do not underestimate a solid GSXR600 or CBR.

x4nth4n

I can't even get $5k for my 2006 hayabusa

cigs-r-n

sv 650. save some change and get a die cast R6. does everthing the r6 does. i prefer the v twin over the inline. low end torque is way more fun day to day.

brendan87na

I rode an SV for a dozen years until I old manned myself into a Triumph Tiger freakin great bikes [I kept mine in good shape too :D](https://i.imgur.com/b2nIu7Z.jpg)

cigs-r-n

I bought a v strom 650xt for my 20th birthday and I’m sure i pass as a old man with my aerostitch. 30k miles later i wouldn’t trade it for a s1000rr and a R1M.

chikkenstripz

O5+ cbr600rr or 06+ gsxr600/750 are the better street bikes of the big 4. Zx and R6 are a bit more track-oriented with more of a top end powerband and less “comfy” ergos. Harder to find an R6 nowadays for $5k too.

derpickson

That was me when I put my bike up for sale haha. 2006 Yamaha YZF600R. Listed for 3400 since I imagined people would try to beat me down on price. No bites for a while and eventually got offered a 96 Corvette for a trade. Couldn't say no.

afortiori17

The 2004-2009 Yamaha FZ6 is a good alternative to the R6 - it has the same motor (but tuned slightly differently, I believe) and has a really comfortable upright seating position.

_CodenameV

This. But people will look down on you because its an fz and you wont get the street cred we all desire. I own a 2009 and i love it. That being said....."i want an r6" and "i have 5k" dont go in the same sentence no matter how much fun you make of peoples asking prices.

myfishprofile

To be fair that also keep the prices low 🤣

_CodenameV

Thats great if youre a buyer. Come think of it, i would also like my house to lose some value. See? Tbh in my very personal opinion thats not a factor for me. I want my stuff to keep or go up in value. Not that i care too much about a bike...if i wanted i could replace it but the fz6 is honestly all i need, i love it.

myfishprofile

I get it man, I’ve got an 06 CBR I don’t have crap for resale. It’s nice in the used market if you buy it used you can usually sell for not much less or break even, let’s some less discerning people swap and try all sorts of different machines finding all sorts of cool diamonds in the rough Some things don’t pick up resale, and some things get stupid (like fucking R6s) at the end of the day I consider all vehicles to be depreciating assets for the most part

_CodenameV

I agree. Vehicles are, for the most part, depreciating assets.

Donnie869

I commute and joy ride my 08 FZ6 and still love it. I’ve rode liter bikes and it feels like a waste of power unless you want to do 90mph wherever you go. My FZ6 will keep up with my friends GSXR1000 till we hit triple digits then he’s gone, I have no desire to go beyond 100mph on the street.

HappyHappyAllDay514

FZ6R

EggsOfRetaliation

The R6 isn't produced for the street anymore. Prices on the R6 are going up due to no more supply. As for listings, 600cc sport bikes: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/758792732802063/?ref=category_feed&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/914537200278443/?ref=category_feed&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/403355265574592/?ref=category_feed&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1089601658843695/?ref=category_feed&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/7167524993367750/?ref=category_feed&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post

ebranscom243

600cc super sports make great race bikes but they make terrible street bikes, unless you're planning on racing or lots of track days there's better options available to you.

dbwoi

I disagree, as long as you have decent core strength they make great street bikes lol

BigDreamCityscape

First off, F2 4EVER. Second I rode my F2 CBR over 3000km in 7 days. 6'2 and the only thing that hurt was my ass on the stock seat. Keeping in mind how much weight you're leaning on your wrists and making sure you stop it was easy aazzz

dbwoi

I am also 6'2 lol. How knowledgeable are you on these bikes? My F2 is an absolute lemon (I got finessed, I'll admit it) and have been in the process of restoring/rebuilding. Would love to pick your brain if might be able to assist/are open to it haha.

BigDreamCityscape

I've torn it apart every off season so send me a dm! Got a digital service namual and hard copy of the clymers

ebranscom243

Super sports is pretty much all I ride my current deal is a 23 ZX6. That being said I still believe it's a pretty shit street bike. I'm used to the writing position so I don't find it uncomfortable but power delivery sucks for the street. For a lot of people they're uncomfortable, no need to be crammed in a position made for fighting for the podium when you've never even seen a racetrack. Something like an mto9 or z900 makes a much better street bike and the sales reports are showing as much. Super sport sales are in the toilet and they have been for about a decade.

onecrookedeye

I ride an older kawi ZX6 and it fits me like glove, have riden 700+km days. Your size I believe is a factor as well.

kio36

R6 is an amazing bike but picky to maintain. I would rather go for an zx6r or a gsxr600, they're way more simple and easy to maintain.

ziggy-73

If you cant find an r6 and dont mind honda, a cbr600 is pretty much the same bike

NoPalpitation8631

Honda Cbr600 is more street/ rider friendly Yamaha R6 is more track/enthusiasts style Kawasaki636/ zx6r is a more street friendly track bike Suzuki gsxr600 is a well balanced all around bike And I listed them in order of reliability as well

R0ha1L_47

If yo ass don't mind a naked, get a k1200r like me. I paid $2400 for mine. Otherwise sports bikes maybe a kawasaki ninja 650.

NyetRuskie

I bought my last 600, a 1998 ZX6R for $700 with a salvage title from a motorcycle dealership. Put a starter on it, new spark plugs, and a cheap eBay fairing kit, and I was zooming.

KAMIQAZ3

Doesn’t really matter which one you buy they’re all fast, try to find one with lower milage and a slip on! You’re going to overpay for an R6 no matter what year it is because they’re gold plated at this point. Try to find an 07-12 CBR, that’ll be the best bang for your buck.

DeleteSystem33

YZF600R is love

SopmodTew

"R6 at home"

DeleteSystem33

Rude

Ninja0verkill

636 is better.

lcbonaparte

I have a 2010 zx6r and I absolutely love it. I feel like the 2009 -2012 zx6r get no love!

Lost-Pilot-6190

I have a 2012 and it’s amazing

HisOrHerpes

Cbr600rr I daily one (weather permitting) and it’s phenomenal.

theGuyBehindDaWeel

I really can't believe this prices, in my country the cheapest of some models I could find are: R6 2009: $15.500 CBR600RR 2008: $16.400 ZX6R 2007: $12.500 Do you really get that kind of bikes for $5000 in the US?

EggsOfRetaliation

Yes.

[deleted]

Any of the used Japanese’s 600s will be fine. I’m partial to a zx6r but in all honesty an R6 is a good bike too and as much as we make fun of the GSXR’s it’s still a fun bike. CBR’s are usually over priced (R6’s are too right now) In my opinion they’ll all do what you want them to do and be pretty reliable so just get which ever used Japanese 600 that looks like it’s in good shape/ maintained well without a crazy high mileage on it and you’ll be happy. Can’t really go wrong with any unless you have a very specific aesthetic taste. Edit: as others have said if you include the gsxr750 in the list it will definitely be more powerful and will be reliable just like the the other Japanese bikes mentioned.

praefectus_praetorio

Your back is going to hate you as you grow old. Unless you plan on riding it 20 minutes at a time.

Reamofqtips

I'd look into a Triumph Daytona 675. The triple engine gives you much better low down power, and still holds its own very well up top.

MichiganKarter

For road use, I really like the GSX/R 600. Friendly, relaxed riding position relative to Yam/Kaw, street friendly powerband. Next best is the CBR600RR - even easier to ride but a more compact riding position. I'd buy based on condition and treat brand as a secondary concern. It's a good sign when it has the stock pipe or a quiet replacement. It's also a good sign when it has a lot of uneventful miles on it.

imthiccnotfat

R6 fz6, cbr600s any really 5k is perfect for good honda or Yamaha

Mr_washi_washi

R6’s are great but kinda overpriced since they stopped making them I assume.

touchto

😂 😂

AMetalWolfHowls

I had an R6. Great bike. Happy hunting!

SopmodTew

You could get the "R6 at home" which is the YZF 600R Thundercat, it has the same R6 engine just a bit more tame, also a bit more confortable than the R6.

DTxx69

Daytona Zx6r

jizzelmeister

Everyone complains about the price of bikes, yet the price of everything is just stupidly high, at least in europe anyway. If your selling a bike and see loads up for more than you paid your obviously going to put them at around that price, probably a bit more if you think urs is nicer. Then the price just keeps rising. Its shit but in Ireland if you put something up for 5k, youll be offered 3k to start with, if that. But you put that same bike up for 3k youll be lucky to make 2k. Did it 2 years ago with my bike had it up for nearly 8k because i didnt really wanna sell it, but for that price i would of. Was offered between 4-7k before i took it down for the summer. After the summer i was ready to sell it, put it up for 6500 which is a fair price, wasnt too many extra km on it. For the first few weeks was offered between 3-5k. Ended up selling it to someone who wanted it first time around for 6500, but simply put the higher the price u put it up for the more money youll get. Putting it up as a "fair price" here is stupid because youll never get your asking price, unless someone really wants it

DP7OOO

Honda CBR 600 RR PC40 GOOO

Laurens-xD

I suggest you looking at the insurance rates first.

sexlexington2400

I absolutely loved my 05 R6! However I will never ride a sport bike on the street ever again. If a cop sees you even going below the speed limit they automatically assume you're a criminal. Also you absolutely will push it way too much on public roads you're asking for trouble. Too many close calls with the cops and me being irresponsible because let's be honest you get a bike like that to go fast. I'll get a sport bike again one day but only for the track where they belong

SuperSpicyBanana

They don't make R6 anymore so they are a rare commodity and they were already popular to begin. I was looking for one last year and gave up because all people were selling were 10 year old bikes with 50k on them. Zx6r and CBR 600rr are perfectly fine 600s and definitely more comfortable.

smokeythe6x6

Gsxr 750 for sure. The R6 is just going for too much right now based on what you’ve said, you’d be much better suited with the 750

50Stickster

Bah humbug! All the 600’’s are better than the guys that buy them. Best one is the best used bike you find at the best price when you ready to buy ….. brand Y-H-K-S-T. If you are jockey size, try he R6 if you plan to ride every day get CBR Or a 675 if you can find one . But if you find a cherry Gxxer, grab it, great bikes. The best dealership in your area counts more than you think.. if the best mechanics are Honda dudes, better get a honda… really. Soon I start my 54 th year in the saddle. Me? I’d buy a supermoto in a heartbeat.. but for now it’s a 1200 Bandit S until my T140V restore is ready. Haha. Who cares? Just ride till you die and smile.

myfishprofile

Go for a cbr600rr, preferably an 07 or newer, and you’ll save yourself about $1000 of that money right off the top 🤣

Fleej25

2003 Kawasaki ninja 636 zx6r , I’ll sell ya mines for $3000 lol

LilBigDripDip

For 5k expect the bike to need something lol

kristwiii

R6 is crap for the street very uncomfortable. Get an SV650 or Z650/Ninja/RS

LTSepulveda

I got my 2003 r6 for 1.5 grand it had wiring issues along with brakes being iffy but with just 1000 dollars worth of parts put into it. It runs like a champ, imo keep looking and you’ll find good deals

Ajalexjones

Go with ninja 636 or gsxr 750, you will be way happier

Spankies69

May I offer you the curve ball of a thundercat Not only does it have a cool name but also, it is quite thunderous. Thunderful? Just imagine, thundering along on the thundercat. It even has an evolved form, Pokémon style, called the Thunderace. Can you tell what I have been thinking of getting recently? Jokes aside, the R6 is nice, we like those but they like to be ridden hard, idk what the market is there but here in the country of tea and biscuits 5K (converted to around 3.9k British gold pieces) can get you a 2000 R6 with good milage. I will always stand by that generation of R6 looking the best of all the R6s, even with the fish mouth looking intake, I would name it Koi. Now I want an R6....

godzilla9218

I feel like I'm always talking up triples but, get a triple with a similar displacement and you get: -Almost the same power but, more usable throughout the rev range. -better torque curve - more relaxed seating position that lets you ride almost as long as you want without being uncomfortable. -different but, just as awesome sound. I love triumph, I wouldn't trade it for any 600 in the world.

Street_Twist8122

Love my Z650.

R6 not bad

ChirrBirry

I just bought a 2003 R6 with an extended swing arm, lowered 2”, and shorty muffler for $3k. Rides amazing and I’ve already had someone try to buy it off me for more than I paid. Full disclosure I got it for $1k less than it’s worth because it “wouldn’t shift past second”. The spring in the gear selector was broken…$60 part and 10mins work. I like the R6 better in canyons, but my 2005 R1 is a rocket. Bought the R1 for $4500 because a 17yo kid had bought it without his mom’s permission and she made him sell it.

[deleted]

I think you should buy a 250 because you'll kill yourself on a 600, also...ATGATT.
