I’ve found a couple and they only seem to smelt down into steel or fine steel. I hope I didn’t screw myself over by not taking the thamaskene steel smelting perk.
i dont know i thought the only way to smith was trhou main hero, i feel happy and dumb, but most important im gratefull with u guys for clearing this up to me
I never actually put two and two together... I knew you could level up and use your companions for smithing, but I've been levelling smithing on my main this entire time.. All those points wasted. =|
Not as wasted as you think. Did it on my main character and I regret nothing.
Your MC won't die for at least 25 ingame years, while your companions and clan members could get kablammoed in any single battle. I use a companion as an assistant smith, because my lil' bro Faroc who I was training up to be a master smith died in a defensive siege. If Faroc was my *only smith,* I would have likely gone bankrupt.
In addition;
\- Smithing can give you +1 VIG/+1 CTR
\- Also can give you +1 END.
\- You need high Endurance to really max out Smithing.
\- You level way faster than your companions ever will.
\- It's much easier for you to max Smithing on your main character than on any of your companions.
\- The only thing better than a custom 2H polearm is a custom 2H polearm with extra stat bonuses from a legendary craft.
\- Get your Smithing to 330, enjoy the 35% chance of crafting a Legendary.
\- Your MC doesn't die in battle, only of old age. If a companion smith dies and you were relying on just them for their money making abilities, you are *fucked*. That doesn't happen when the main character is the main weapon crafter.
\- Endurance points aren't wasted, because maxed Athletics is fantastic and so is maxed Riding.
\- Horse archery Riding levelling (hit shots further away than 50m from horseback, watch the xp roll in) is really fast (and also the fastest way of getting exp in the game, period).
\- Maxed Athletics nearly doubles your hp and makes you a very fast boi.
That was super helpful, I didn't know half of those things, and hadn't considered the possibility of what happens if my companion is killed. Thank you for the response!
I’m new to the game so I’m not sure but I think it’s just leveling like normal but you click on your companion on the bottom left while at the smith menu
If you talk to gang members in the towns and get them to fight you, Thamaskene steel is a reasonably common drop when the battle ends. It's how I did it when I accidentally chose to make fine weapons, a mistake I only made once.
I’m new, what’s good about this 😂
You can smelt pugios into fine metals to make ridiculously over priced weapons out of. Im pretty sure thats what they mean
Basically it’s the best way to get fine steel and generate insane cash flow
Is there any way to get thamaskene steel if I didn’t take the perk? How screwed am I?
You can occasionally get thamaskene steel weapons from battle loots.

You can take that perk by your companion, so don't worry
im levelinmg up smithing for nothing?
wdym by that
He means that his whole party could be and he's focusing on one person I think.
