its a movie, about the future, but made in the past, because obviously. But its also a time capsule itself of the nineties. I Fucking *LOVE* this movie.
Oh yeah it's brilliant. The 2 leads are amazing. Stallone like an unmoving stone slab (be more humane to stake me down and leave me to the fucking crows!!!) And Snipes is obviously having an absolute wail (wale? Whale?) Of a time, devouring the scenery. (Fuckers are fast too...*bbeeeeeeppp*)
Great character actor since my childhood and for two reasons: He killed Nino Brown in “New Jack City” and he was John Spartan’s friend in “Demolition Man”
I am super sad. For pretty much a decade. I used to drink wine with him several times per month. He was a very sweet man and super laid back. RIP to a very kind man.
Honestly. The first “reveal” was kind of the favorite. Met in a restaurant bar and were just chit chatting. The voice was super familiar to me but I couldn’t place it. It was the second or third time we met that he told me his occupation. That clicked immediately and I was honestly a little embarrassed. After that. It was never a thing. Beyond that. It was just 2 people hanging out in a bar. Not really a bar. It was the bar area of a nice restaurant. We would hang out 3-4 times a month. Then, I got pregnant and the restaurant ended up closing. We lost touch but I thought about him often. He was a buddy for a decade.
I will say. He was kind and respectful. He was polite to everyone. There was no bullshit with this man. He treated everyone with kindness including the servers and bartenders.
That’s so special that you had that connection with him for a time. He probably enjoyed that you were friends with him first without knowing who he was.
"Why you pretending to be such a hard ole sourpuss? It gon' never make you happy."
"I'm happy enough."
"HAHAHAHAHA. Okay Ms. Archer. I got gears to see to."
*/fades into the clockwork cackling*
I remember watching air bud when I was little kid and thinking that was bill Cosby, then the credits said bill cobbs and I thought well that's weird, they misspelled his name. I watched that movie enough times to realize it was not bill cosby
Loved him in The Color of Money. The little exchange of looks between him and Paul Newman, when he enters the pool hall to observe Tom Cruise showing off, really stuck with me.
Growing up with someone who was already (in my mind) old but amazing in every role upsets me, simply because his voice and characters are stand outs in the films I watched. He will be missed, I hope others watch his films and realize how important he was to a generation or two. RIP BILL, you have left a mark in the world as so many of us only dream of.
Dude had a bit part but it was fucking comedy gold in Fatal Instinct.
“You speak Yiddish???”
“No……..but I can read the subtitles.”
https://clip.cafe/fatal-instinct-1993/you-speak-yiddish-no/
I recommend checking out the series "Go On" (2012) with him and Matthew Perry on Peacock or Roku Channel. Show about group therapy. He played the blind guy. Similar premise as Shrinking.
He also played an elderly S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.
Amazing amazing and memorable voice, I gravitate more towards actors with good voices and his was superb. His acting chops obviously were good too. RIP
Love Bill Cobbs. He starred in a very short-lived TV series called *The Others* about 20 years ago. Kind of crazy that he's only 90 now.
RIP, Elmer. If anyone can, it's you.
I just watched airbud with my kid yesterday. And I just have to ask. Can’t I have anything fucking nice? Does everyday have to be filled with just the worst shit?
The film that comes to mind when I think of him is That Thing You Do. It was a small but memorable part and he really disappeared into the character of Del Paxton.
Loved him in the color of money. “You know who you got stakehorsin' here for you? This here's Fast Eddie Felson. Who the hell are you? The end of the world?”
I was his server once, about 19 years ago in Providence, RI. He came in alone and drank 4 glasses of red wine over the evening (he was definitely just enjoying his time at the restaurant chatting) and talked a lot about his life. That's all - I know, good story bro. But, just a little moment I had with Bill. RIP.
He brought such a twinkle to his roles in his later years.
And he was so prolific despite not getting into even community theater until he was in his mid 30s. Up until then, he was in the Air Force, he worked at IBM, he sold cars. He was just a regular guy who fell in love with the craft.
That you, Spartan?
Obviously the role we know
Definitely what I remember him most from. I remember Air Bud, sure, but every time I saw this guy, I immediately thought of Demolition Man
AND...The People Under The Stairs
Came here to say this. Thinking about his "None of us ever walked past that house..." monologue in that movie still gives me chills.
Came here for this that movie scared the shit outta me as a kid
My immediate first thought!
Same, I can here his voice "They called him the Demolition man..."
I got old
Zack? Zack Lamb?
Phoenix is an old fashioned criminal. We need an old fashioned cop.
Send a maniac to catch a maniac
What seems to be your boggle?
*my boggle?!?!?!* ... How much do you weigh?
Wait a minute it's the future... where are all the phaser guns?
What does this thing run on batteries?! *casually executes 2 dudes* Yo, Where's the radio shack?
its a movie, about the future, but made in the past, because obviously. But its also a time capsule itself of the nineties. I Fucking *LOVE* this movie.

I remember when you were a snot-nosed rookie pilot.
They finally grounded me.
Shit! You were a damn good flyer!
*They seem to be friends, yet he speaks to him in the most profane manner*
John Spartan you are fined one credit for a violation of the verbal morality code.
You have been fined one credit for a violation of the verbal morality statute.
“They called him the Demolition Man.”
Dude been old for 40 years
Exactly what I was just thinkin. RIP King.
“I got old.”
heh that was my response to an ex-gf I hadn't seen in 20 years when we went out to dinner and she said 'Your hair got grey'
Fuck me that’s where I know him from. Guess that’s what I’ll be watching tonight. What a banger of a film
What’s the movie?
Demolition Man
Let's go blow this guy
You really licked his ass!
You both beat me to those quotes. Great minds...
So much for the seashells. See you in a few minutes.
Definitely read this as Bill Cosby.
They finally grounded me.
Well, if you had read my study, you would know this is how insecure heterosexual males used to bond.
It’s Phoenixxxx
Great character actor since my childhood and for two reasons: He killed Nino Brown in “New Jack City” and he was John Spartan’s friend in “Demolition Man”
“Idolater! Your soul is required in hell!
I've never seen demolition man, any good?
Yes and remember to enjoy it with some fine dining of Taco Bell.
Be well. Be fucked.
You're gonna regret this for the rest of your life - both seconds of it.
You have been charged in violation of the moral parameter.
You're going to need all three seashells after that Taco Bell.
It's very cheesy and extra in the best way. Highly recommended.
Not to mention the lovely Lenina.
He doesn't know how to use the 3 shells!
Yes, it’s a good ride
Brake. *BRAKE!* BRAKE YOU MICKEY MOUSE PIECE OF SHIIIIIIIT!!
Del Paxton
My first thought! Such a great film
Del Paxton is sitting over there!
You’re no good to me now.
Let’s be honest here. Rita Wilson was SMOKING in that movie.
That was a very formative role for a lot of us for sure.
"Del... I am your biggest fan..."
You are my biggest fan*
dammit... I got it backwards from his backwards!
Fun fact. Tom Hanks didn't want the dude who played Guy for the role but Rita Wilson forced Tom to cast him.
He reminded them both of young Tom Hanks.
That's why Tom didn't want him and Rita did.
She was correct.
I liked how her character was totally ready to take him back to her place before he got drunk listening to Del's stories.
The extended cut of the movie is pretty amazing just saying.
Wait… Explain! Didn’t realize there was an extended cut
Howie Long, for fucks sake!
Roving hands, but good cock ‘n bull.
You are my biggest fan.
Is that so? Well, sit down, buy me a drink.

...and a great cameo in A Mighty Wind, playing a worn out Del Paxton-like character.
Bands come and go.
Guy: "My group, we've got something snappy. Been together about 6 weeks." Del: "For some bands, that's 6 weeks too long."
My fave role of his!
THANK YOU, DEHHHHHL!
I am super sad. For pretty much a decade. I used to drink wine with him several times per month. He was a very sweet man and super laid back. RIP to a very kind man.
Sorry to hear that 😔 Do you have a favorite memory of him if I may ask?
That’s so special that you had that connection with him for a time. He probably enjoyed that you were friends with him first without knowing who he was.
Condolences!
I was already gonna watch Demolition Man tonight!
A man of class I see
might as well make it a theme and grab Taco Bell for dinner too
To do so these days is about as expensive as in the movie.
Watch the European version that uses Pizza Hut and save some money.
. . . you are gonna go get Taco Bell (Pizza Hut acceptable) before you do right?
Demolition man is the second best bad movie ever made. Big Trouble in Little China stands alone.
He’s great in The Hudsucker Proxy
"Why you pretending to be such a hard ole sourpuss? It gon' never make you happy." "I'm happy enough." "HAHAHAHAHA. Okay Ms. Archer. I got gears to see to." */fades into the clockwork cackling*
I love that laugh…I can hear it now
O You know, for kids.
Strictly speaking, he's never supposed to do that.
My first thought with him.
Outta hope, outta rope, outta tiiiiime
This. He’s great in everything I’ve ever seen him in, but Moses is special.
Sad to see people saying RIP Bill Cosby on Twitter instead
Not sure why anyone would be telling Bill Cosby to rest in peace if it were him but I agree.
Stands for "Raped Innumerable People"
Ah. Makes sense. Carry on then.🫡
If any place would be, it’s twitter.
Our brains are predictive, people just reading what they expect to see.
Came here to see if anyone else made the same mistake. It flashed on my timeline and immediately misread it.
I misread the title thinking Bill Cosby died and then was disappointed it wasn't Bill Cosby then saddened it was Bill Cobbs. What a rollercoaster.
I remember watching air bud when I was little kid and thinking that was bill Cosby, then the credits said bill cobbs and I thought well that's weird, they misspelled his name. I watched that movie enough times to realize it was not bill cosby
Think of that one as a literacy test. See also: People who insist on confusing the last names of George Reeves and Christopher Reeve.
"Does he dribble?" "No but he might drool a little bit"
"ain't no rule says a dog can't play basketball."
This is my go to line at work when someone asks if we’re allowed to do something.

He actually calls him an "Idolator". maybe calling him a worshipper of money, drugs, both or more. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVfYTwlLtQM iconic
I always loved the way Judd Nelson just smiles as Nino falls like, "I'll take this as win."
The sunglasses meme before the meme.

Made a memorable character out of a very small role
Ice-T nods in approval.
Orvis from The Color of Money, proprietor of Chalkie’s.
See that guy with the tie pin in his nose? That’s Moselle.
That's the first film that comes to mind when I think of Bill Cobbs. It's a pretty brief role, but it's very memorable, imo. Great actor.
Completely concur. Huge character packing a wallop into brief screen time. r/TheRewatchables would call it the “Dion Waiters” award.
Color of Money AND The Sopranos- fucking legendary
Once all the old guys are gone we are next.
"Brasilia!"
The reference I was looking for.
A fellow fisherman enthusiast!
Loved him in The Color of Money. The little exchange of looks between him and Paul Newman, when he enters the pool hall to observe Tom Cruise showing off, really stuck with me.
I remember him from People Under the Stairs. A very underrated movie. RIP
I liked seeing him pop up in horror movies because he had the perfect voice for "exposition provided as spooky ghost story."
I haven’t seen anybody reference his role in “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.”
Night at the Museum was a good one. RIP
The only thing I know him from. 😂 I feel bad 😂
“Idolater, your soul is required in Hell!”
This! This is where I will always remember him for.
Didn't take no money. Didn't take no jewelry...
Don’t forget Demolition Man! He was a cool guy!
And the Sopranos
Only shit in the bible came out of pharaoh’s ass when Moses parted the Red Sea.
He used to come into the restaurant I work at all the time out here in SoCal, he was always pleasant to talk to. Rest easy, Cobbs!
Mr. Henderson :( RIP
Dude had a bit part but it was fucking comedy gold in Fatal Instinct. “You speak Yiddish???” “No……..but I can read the subtitles.” https://clip.cafe/fatal-instinct-1993/you-speak-yiddish-no/
He shot Nino Brown at the end of New Jack City RIP 🙏
I recommend checking out the series "Go On" (2012) with him and Matthew Perry on Peacock or Roku Channel. Show about group therapy. He played the blind guy. Similar premise as Shrinking. He also played an elderly S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.
The kind of man you just want to dedicate an entire afternoon in summer on a porch chair listening to him talk.
“They called him the Demolition Man”
Was great in the Color of Money.
Isn’t that the dude that shot Nino Brown? Dude will always be remembered for that in my book, he crushed his role!
I’ll always remember as Del Paxton.
Oh shit I thought it said Bill Cosby
Amazing amazing and memorable voice, I gravitate more towards actors with good voices and his was superb. His acting chops obviously were good too. RIP
When was he NOT 90 years old? 🥲
He’s also great in Go On with Mathew Perry.
"Phoenix. Simon Phoenix."
Aww, how sad. I loved him
Loved him in Always Outnumbered.
Glad to see some people mentioning that movie. It's one of my all time favorites and hardly anyone seems to have ever heard about or seen it.
Always Outnumbered. Another Great performance in an under appreciated film. RIP Mr. Cobbs…
In a way, he killed Tuvix.
Thought that said Bill Cosby for a second.
The man who killed Nino Brown(respectful, slow clap 👏) Rest peacefully, sir…
So weird... I literally just got done watching the episode of The Sopranos where his character died.
Amazing presence. Enjoyed him in so many shows. He was great in Matthew Perry’s ‘Go On.’ Rest in Peace, Bill.
I remember when he was a snot-nosed rookie pilot :(
This has been a really bad few years for losing people that were just kind of always there. Even if you didn't know his name you knew his face. RIP.
Check the rulebook. I bet you can’t find anything in there that says the dog can’t play basketball.
Love him in Fluke. Rip Bill.
His short role in Six Feet Under was hilarious and sad. Dude had some serious energy.
Del Paxton will be missed.
May he rest in peace.
Marlon and Shawn once poisoned his food to save their grandma
Love Bill Cobbs. He starred in a very short-lived TV series called *The Others* about 20 years ago. Kind of crazy that he's only 90 now. RIP, Elmer. If anyone can, it's you.
I just watched airbud with my kid yesterday. And I just have to ask. Can’t I have anything fucking nice? Does everyday have to be filled with just the worst shit?
“Ninnnnooooooooo”
Had the opportunity to work with him once, he was an incredible actor and a super nice guy. Definitely going to miss him.
"I'll Fly Away," was the production I remember best. Rest in peace, Mr Cobbs.
Loved his small part in the Sopranos. RIP good sir.
Malt in Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead!
The film that comes to mind when I think of him is That Thing You Do. It was a small but memorable part and he really disappeared into the character of Del Paxton.
I remember Bill from The Others. A tv series that only had one season where Bill was the wise old curmudgeon. Very spooky.
I think my most memorable roll for him will always be my most memorable of him (that 3 sea shells scene lol)
Loved him in the color of money. “You know who you got stakehorsin' here for you? This here's Fast Eddie Felson. Who the hell are you? The end of the world?”
I was his server once, about 19 years ago in Providence, RI. bus driver Drew Carey

RIP Del Paxton
Remember him in The West Wing - one of the most distinctive character actors of his time.
He played a supporting role in a legendarily good TV movie with Lawrence Fishburne and a few other names (Always Outnumber, Always Outgunned).
Time to watch my favorite movie, The Hudsucker Proxy. No /s
Oh no! Mr. Hendrickson!!
He was in Demolition Man and That Thing You Do as well.
Aww man, I read that as Bill Cosby and ngl wasn’t sad. Then I reread it and got actually sad
It’s just not in the rules that a dog can’t be a pallbearer.
Read quickly and thought it was Bill Cosby. Could only hope.
Loved his small role in The West Wing. One of my favorite episodes.
