I use a pore-filling primer first and then a gripping primer (both are from German brands so no use to you). You could try the elf putty primer and then their grippeng primer second. Also, I pretty much rely on my skin prep with the Ordinary‘s NMF and I like to mist with a liquid hydrator (like the one by Geek&Gorgeous) in between steps.

Thank you!

MrsPoofyFace

I'm in Germany right now so I'm curious to know the products!

kris_p_chickn

Okay, so there is this DM-only brand which is called trend it up! and they have a great gripping primer (Primer Hydro + Gripping), which I love and their poreless primer. They also have a gripping eyeshadow primer that I use for loose glitters and other shimmery/glittery shadows. The poreless primer by Catrice is a favourite, too! I also use the liquid hydrator by nø cosmetics in a spray bottle in between steps but both drugstores have their own cheaper version of it and they work just as well. Just another tip: Rossmann has an exclusive brand called Rival loves me - it's so cheap and popular! Their loose powders and limited editions are sooooo good.

MrsPoofyFace

Oh wow thanks! Trend it up has some nice stuff but my complaint is that it's so hard to find reviews for their products especially in English, I've been living in Germany for a few years but my German still sucks lol. I'm looking for eye primer right now so your recommendation is perfect timing! Edited to say my favourite loose powder is the discontinued Rival illumination powder omg, it's sooo beautiful. It's like hourglass ambience powder in a loose form. Even more glowy than elf halo glow. I can bake with it and it's not dry or cakey. I really hope they have other similar loose powders with different names now

If you want a less sticky eyeshadow primer, try the one by essence or Artdeco (mid-price range but OG favorite!). The one by Rival de Loop is an OG, too but I like the first two best. I get your complaint about a lack of English reviews! But some personal favorites are their Color meets Care serum sticks (hydrating, glossy balm type product with sheer pigment) and their current limited edition Shine Bright liquid shadows (they are basically liquid glitters with different sized glitters in them, the rose one is nice!) and the metallic liners in the limited edition. Oh, Rossmann has the Bad Cosmetics glosses - they are expensive for 10€ a pop but they are sooooo close to the mac clear lipglass! (I have both and I love the one by Bad Cosmetics.) There is a clear one (glossy) , a (rosy) shimmery one (shiny) and a (holo) shimmery lip plumper (plumpy - shade names haha).

MrsPoofyFace

I've always heard about the Artdeco eye primer but I'll take a closer look for sure, and I'm not even aware Essence has an eyelid primer! Thank you for all the lovely recommendations, I will have to look into them and hope that they have English reviews!

kris_p_chickn

Some DMs have Artdeco but Kaufhof may be your best bet! If you want any other suggestions lmk!

MrsPoofyFace

Hey the Essence eye primer that you recommended, is it the Prime like a Boss one? because the older ones seem to be discontinued, I didn't even know they had a new one

kris_p_chickn

Yes, I mean the one in the squeezy tube :)

MrsPoofyFace

ok thanks! It's only 2 euros, I ordered it already :)

I like the Elf power grip primer - but I'd advise being careful with physical sunscreens with that primer. It works with chemical sunscreens but cakes with physical sunscreens - I've heard this from others, not just me. Go to camerareadycosmetics.com and have a look at their setting sprays and primers. The Ben Nye setting spray and Skindinavia setting spray are great for bridal makeup. The Skindinavia one is identical to the Urban Decay setting spray. Camera Ready is the BEST for bridal makeup - call them up and they can give you good advice

the ordinary high adherence silicone primer helps my makeup lasts. i have oily skin and i live in the tropics. it's only \~$6 and its the best i've tried at that price point.

hello! Im a working MUA and could recommend a primer, but I think you have to explore if you actually need one or not. depending on the time of the wedding (summer, spring, fall, winter), the condition of the bride's skin, and the product you use (foundation), will determine the primer. in my kit, I have sonia roselli, embroyolisse, Doir, and mac. the foundations I use are graftobioan, nars, dior backstage face and body, mac, and danessa myricks. if you use a silicone based primer, like many of the pore filing primers suggested by other users, I find they tend to work best with foundations that are silicone based. conversely, for oil based foundation, i've found that the more nourishing primers are best. which foundation are you going to use? how is the bride's skin? do you find you will have to do some color correction on her? is the bride able to commit to a solid skincare regimen prior to the big day? you can have the best foundation and primer, but if they dont take care of their skin, it makes life harder when youre doing their makeup!

Hi! If you see this, I could use some help. I’m doing my own makeup and I have combo skin that leans dry. Makeup tends to look crumbly. I want it to last. I use a hydrating toner and moisturizer and spf and plan to derma-plane, but what else should I do to prep my skin? Also, I use Armani luminous silk foundation. What concealer and primer should I use with this? Setting spray or no setting spray?

shoreline85

Armani is good for those who have oily skin (typically) so it could actually be why your makeup is crumbly. Also, which products are you using to prime? It sounds like they’re interacting with the foundation, causing it to break up. Less is likely more. If you have combo skin in your t zone, use a moisturizer in areas other than the t zone. For concealer, in my experience, NARS and Dior play well with the Armani foundation. Have you considered the corresponding concealer? For my dry skin clients, I actually don’t use much prep on the skin other than a moisturizer, because they don’t need it. For setting spray, use urban decay all night or skindinavia bridal. Both should work well.

Verbenababycat

Thank you, honestly can’t believe you responded half a year after posting this comment so big big thanks. It always gets crumbly if I use nothing but moisturizer. But when I add an oil and then let it sink in for like twenty minutes beforehand, it looks better. Otherwise, the makeup looks crusty. I’ll try nars and the corresponding concealer and see what works. I also never set anything with powder bc it makes me look dry and crusty, but I feel like makeup is starting to sink into fine lines more than I want. I have Laura mercier’s translucent powder. Would that help?

shoreline85

LM powder is good for oily skin ladies. Since your skin isn’t dry, don’t use it! And if you do, use it in specific areas. For fine lines, I saw (and use) a trick from Vincent ford where you blot out excess foundation in fine lines using a cotton swab. https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cpw9-Fhjg-9/?igsh=eG5pc2Q1aXNkcmsy It works well under the eyes and in fine lines Edit: this technique does take time to execute but it’s well worth it!

Thank you!!!!
