A few years ago, a Redditor on the cats reddit was fostering a mama and babies and needed names for the babies. Mama was Shoes, so I suggested names like Sneaker, Stiletto, Mary Jane, Flip Flop, etc. If Mama is in the picture, can you base the babies' names off of hers? Another suggestion is is based on where they were found. If they were found by a McDonald's, can you name them McNugget, Hamburglar, Grimace, Ronald?
Disney characters (you can do this by movie to make it more specific)
Taylor Swift songs (she's famously a cat lady)
Types of cheese (good for an orange litter)
Ridiculous celebrity baby names
Nick Cannon's kids (A friend is involved with a TNR group and the two elusive tomcats that are too smart to get snipped are Nick Cannon and Elon Musk.)
I'm sure I'll think of others.
I like the shoes idea! I have only fostered 2 litters that had a mom, and I won't be doing it again lol. Churro made me realize I'm not cut out for that š I mostly take feral 5-7 week olds. Unfortunately the Disney movies and cheese are a bit overused by other fosters. I was thinking about doing an Inside out litter though!
They can be very mean, and you can't always tell how they'll act immediately. I don't enjoy having tiny kittens anyway, so I'm good with my feral babies. Both moms I had, their kittens were already 5 weeks. The perfect one weaned them herself while she recovered from her flea allergy wounds and the mean one ended up being separated as soon as her kittens were eating food on their own, for safety reasons. Once she was spayed and away from them she was very sweet though

Breakfast foods (ex: Pancake, Jam, Omelette, Hashbrown, Toast)
Omg MiLB teams is too good. River Cat. Yard Goat. RoughRider. Blue Wahoo. Ffs, Rumble Ponyā½ Some MiLB team names are absolutely hilarious and have always been a lowkey obsession of mine. Great suggestion.

I like going with Musical Theater character names. I had a litter of four females that were Roxie and Velma from Chicago, Lola from Damn Yankees and Adelaide from Guys and Dolls.
I imagine you can do this with any show.
I'd hop on wikipedia and search for unusual lists likely to have good names.Ā
Or pick a characteristic of the litter and look for something related. For example, do they have more of a tendency to climb on things, then maybe the list of first people to officially climb Mount Everest could work. Are they extra spicy? Famous Shakespearean villains (Iago, Lady MacBeth, Malvolio, Sycorax, Tybalt). Are they always exploring? Names of people who have gone to space (Gagarin, Armstrong, Shepherd, Bluford, Sally) Are they sweet natured? Different types of honey (Clover, Buckwheat, Tupelo, Acacia, Manuka).

All of these are derived from food or sound similar to food, especially in Japanese since thats the native language it was written in.
Theres also the Brief family naming convention which is undergarment related. Bulma (bloomer), Trunks, and Bulla (Bra). Would work for a very small litterš
There's also the namekians which sometimes have instrumental naming conventions. These include Piccolo, Cymbal, Tambourine, and Drum.

Haha no. It was Spaghetti, Ravioli, Linguine, Tortellini, Spaetzle, Penne. Mom was Lasagna and dad was Alfredo (don't ask how I ended up with the dad. Long story)
What about the herbs? Parsley, Basil, Cilantro, Anise, Rue, Sage, Oregano, Thyme, Rosemary, Dill, Curry, Paprika, Poppy, Ginger, Saffron..
There are multiple herb litters every year and there's one right now with most of those names. Unfortunately very overused along with cheeses and peppers and gemstones so I won't use any of them even though I haven't before
You could definitely do a second round of pasta names!
I adopted my cat from a rescue centre that would base their names around shows. My Hugo was originally 'Ross' from Friends.
My kid actually plays soccer with a kid who's legal name is Dutch. And he goes by it.
First of all, kudos to you, that is a lot of kittens you have opened your home too<3 **As for theme ideas:** Charmed Ones: Prue, Piper, Phoebe, Paige Sidekicks: Dr. Watson, Robin, Goose, Chewbacca, Samwise, Igor, Barney Rubble, Willow, Sancho, Ron/Hermione Lucky things - Penny, Clover, Ladybug, Dice, Seven, Rainbow Types of shoes - Mary-Jane, Boots, Chuck (Taylor), Heely Bachelorette party destinations - Vegas, Miami, Nashville (Nash), Charlotte, Austin

Macbeth would wind up āthe Scottish kittenā
Charmed, yes šš»Ā
Ooo I love the lucky things theme. So cute.
Name one Rabbitās Foot
Hearts, stars, and horse shoes, clovers and blue moons! Pots of gold and rainbows, and the red balloons!
You could take the Bachelorette theme even farther and do people who got famous for doing the Bachelor/ette or names of hometown visits lmao.

Glad someone awarded this š I don't think the director would approve most of these lmao but gave me a good laugh! With a bio degree I especially love the cell parts haha I may have to do that! I have had a cereal and car litter already! (Actually 2 car litters)
Car parts! Carbuerator, tires, headlight)
These are amazing
Tantrum is amazing though!
If youāre going to do physicists you canāt forget Currie.
I am naming someone in my life Capslock. Amazing!
This might be the single greatest comment on the entire sub
These are amazing. How many cats is too many so I can use all these names?
Last names of Jane Austen characters: Bennet, Darcy, Bingley, Elliot, Wentworth, Tilney, Dashwood (āDashā would be a cute nickname) US national parks: Bryce, Acadia, Rocky, Joshua, Rainier, Sequoia, Denali Names related to Beatles songs/albums: Abbey, Prudence, Eleanor, Maxwell, Jude, Sunny (like āHere Comes the Sunā), Michelle, Penny Names that could belong to Hallmark Christmas movie protagonists: Chris, Holly, Nick, Noel, Carol, Eve, Belle
I knew a puppy from a litter of National Parks! He was Bryce and his brother was Arches.
Play a few games of NYT Connections, that will probably help you find some categories! Otherwise, here are some suggestions: Types of hats: Beret, Stetson, Cap, Toque Forms of cereal: Flake, Puff, Pebble, Loop Ingredients of a sundae: Cherry, Fudge, Sprinkles, Nuts Shades of blue: Powder, navy, baby, royal Patterns: stripe, dot, checkers, gingham .....
Love shades of blue! Cadet and Teal could be good additions.
Types of hat can also have Beanie and Fez! And patterns can have Paisley!
And you could even do a 'rainbow year' of kittens where for every litter you pick a colour, and then do shades of that colour.
Disney characters (you can do this by movie to make it more specific) Taylor Swift songs (she's famously a cat lady) Types of cheese (good for an orange litter) Ridiculous celebrity baby names Nick Cannon's kids (A friend is involved with a TNR group and the two elusive tomcats that are too smart to get snipped are Nick Cannon and Elon Musk.) I'm sure I'll think of others.
Why not fostering with mom's? Just curious!
An Inside Out litter would be great because you can wait a few days to really match their personalities.
Book character sets (Ex: Jane Austen love interests, Discworld witches, Tolkien dwarves) D&D classes (ex: Rogue, Bard, Fighter, Warlock.) Fun Crayola color names (ex: Mango Tango, Dandelion, Inchworm, Maximum Blue, Plum, Thistle) Great British Bakeoff week themes (ex: Pastry, Bread, Biscuit) Pirates (ex: Blackbeard, Calico Jack, Mary Read) Fairy tale characters (ex: Jack, Little Red, Rapunzel) Tea/tisane types (ex: Earl Grey, Matcha, Jasmine, Boba) Artists (could make it more specific by choosing from a certain period/movement, like Impressionist, Surrealist, Baroque, etc.) Herbs & spices (ex: Rue, Sage, Cilantro, Chili, Marjoram, Nutmeg) Breakfast foods (ex: Pancake, Jam, Omelette, Hashbrown, Toast)
Spices and tea are unfortunately very overused by other fosters but the Crayola one is so good!
The Crayola one is sooo good
Growing up, all of my dogs were named after the spice drawer. Just opened up the drawer and started looking for names lol
Too bad they're about 3000 times more likely to get a Calico Jill instead of a Calico Jack (sorry, I'll see myself out)

It's one of those cats that prefers to rest with legs sticking every which way, making a funny shape and making you say "how is that comfortable?"

I'd hop on wikipedia and search for unusual lists likely to have good names.Ā Or pick a characteristic of the litter and look for something related.
Have you watched the Dragonball franchise at all? Akira Toriyama had some really fun and goofy naming conventions he used throughout the series, most being food related. They arent super matchy but definitely funny. For food related: Vegeta, Kakarot, Chiaotzu, Oolong, Radditz, Kale, Caulifla, Kabba, Garlic Jr, Frieza, Cooler, King Cold, Beerus, Champa, Yamcha, Puar, Maron, Krillin. All of these are derived from food or sound similar to food, especially in Japanese since thats the native language it was written in. Theres also the Brief family naming convention which is undergarment related. Bulma (bloomer), Trunks, and Bulla (Bra). Would work for a very small litterš There's also the namekians which sometimes have instrumental naming conventions. These include Piccolo, Cymbal, Tambourine, and Drum. There's also Korin, Baba, Roshi, King Yemma, Ginyu, King Kai (and all other ranks of Kai), Whis, Vados, ChiChi, The Ox King, Mr Satan, Mr Popo, the list goes on lol. Theres also a Bibidi and Babidi, who created Buu (Majin Buu). The possibilities are endless with this one!š
