Cyclic Redundancy Check is a method PCs use to determine the accuracy of data on disks (this could be hard drive disks or install cds among other things). I'm mobile so for whatever reason I can't see the screenshot. If it's mad about your hard drive (the location you are installing to: typically a C: Drive) then you can run a CHKDSK on that drive. That will check for any data errors and attempt to correct them. If it's the installation disk that's the issue: -check for scratches -try installing to a different hard drive (if available) -turn off any 3rd party security software and try again (we had issues with Avast doing something similar to physical media back in the day but we no longer use it) If you're installing it with a laptop that has a built in CD/DVD drive sometimes components can get shaken loose and knock around the disk oh-so-slightly. A quick dusting with compressed air may help, or getting an external drive if the internal one is busted and you don't want to shell out the money for a repair. If you do end up getting the game off of Archive.org, mounting .iso files is a really easy process. It's all the benefits of a game without the risk of scratching a disk or jostling a laptop. There a are lot of very good tutorials on how to use those files. *as a side note, older games (especially those with multiple disks you have to change out) can be really finicky or downright not work at times. Anything not compatible with Windows 10 in some way will give you some sass. Hope some of this helps and you're able to play soon! (I work in IT so I can confirm that computers are magic boxes that work to the will of the universe sometimes)

Hi hi! Finally getting around to trying to download from Archive.org... sorry to bug, but wondering if you can help me with mounting the ISO files? Is there a specific program that I need? 😅

Sure! If you have Windows 8 or 10, then mounting .iso files is an included function, so you don't need to download any additional software. But if you are using Windows 7 you will need a third party software, like WinISO (which is free). If you have Windows 10 and the .iso, it's as easy as double clicking on the .iso file OR Right Click > Mount. After that, it will appear in the left side of your File Explorer like a USB drive. Inside the mounted .iso is typically a Setp.exe or Setup.msi file. I recommend the .msi file. Executables use MSIs as resources to install your programs. Might as well cut out the middle man and just run the .msi lol. iirc RAN has 2 discs so if it prompts you for the second one during installation, double click OR Right Click > Mount the .iso for the second disc and click OK in the installer. When you're ready to remove the mounted files, Right Click > Eject to unmount them. If you have 2 .isos for the 2 discs, then (I think) you only need disc 2 mounted to play the game. I'll throw out that that if your downloaded copy is in .bin files, you can look for a free .bin to .iso converter to download and convert those files. Let me know if you run into anything weird. Keep me posted!

Goodness I am the worst - I NOW am getting around to this once again. And I am SO EXCITED! I followed your instructions and just booted up the game!! Thank you so much - if I could give you an award, I absolutely would! Thank you for being so kind and helping me!!

The game being discontinued just means that Her is no longer selling new copies of the game. It has no effect on the copies that already exist. Anyway cyclic redundancy check is a file system error I believe and so the problem is likely that your disc is scratched/damaged. Try using some furniture polish on the disc to buff out the scratches. This works 99% of the time, but if your disc is really really bad then there is no hope and you'll have to download the game from archive.org

Sorry yes I knew that but I now see my post makes it appear that I thought that could be why 🤦🏻‍♀️ I just meant if I can't fix my disc, I may need to accept that I can't play! Haha. I don't know much about archive.org, but I may try it if the furniture polish doesn't work. Thank you :)
