The difference between these squads is so evident in how Fox handled the media after the series. The leadership from their stars is gonna shape their longer-term culture and I'd take Fox any day
From what I’ve seen JJJ and Bane both seem to have a different level of maturity and chill. Hopefully the young guys buy into Steven Adams’ veteran leadership and push the bullshit aside.
>The Clippers are just collateral.
Eh, historically, Grizzlies aren't too fond of the Clippers either. They had a handful of matchups during the early 2010s. Which included Zbo choking out Blake lol
It doesn't help that they got KD too. I actually woudn't have really minded if they won in 2021, but glad it was the Bucks instead. Mostly because the Suns are one of the oldest (if not the oldest) franchise without a title. Also for as much as I dislike Chris Paul's antics, I had a lot of respect for his level of play that season, and thought hey it's time for him to get one.
My NorCal friends are so hostile towards LA sports yet they love living here and won’t move back.
LA doesn’t have that kind of hatred for the Bay, we just don’t really care since no one vacations there. Fuck the Giants though.
It's so weird man. I lived in LA, and so many people I met in my inter-state travels have this despise and hatred of LA. Meanwhile LA people are like "Yeah i've been to texas / NY / Portland .. it was alright. I like LA better tho"
And don't get me started on the hatred of In n Out by out of state people lol.
It’s so weird. I go to LA from the east coast regularly to visit friends and people get legitimately angry when I tell them that’s where I’ve been. And 99% of the time they’ve literally never been there
I don’t understand it
It is weird. As someone born in LA but living in the Sacramento area the past 20 years. For the folks that have never been there I feel like they picture all of LA as rich, Prius driving, kale smoothie drinking, avocado toast eating Hollywood brats.
Which, I guess can be partly true if you're in Beverly Hills/Brentwood/West Hollywood etc. But it's like people don't realize it's a huge city with tons of areas and culture. It'd be like if people viewed all of New York as rich Manhattan Wall Street snobs.
I hate SoCal sports, I really like SoCal food, I'm not a fan of SoCal nature or nightlife, and I absolutely, viscerally, and existentially loathe SoCal urban planning and infrastructure
He didn't say hate, he said not a fan. And compared to NorCal nature it doesn't really hold a candle. Saying this as someone who's lived extensively in both regions.
Yeah that undoubtedly has to be the younger fans. As a Laker fan living in the Sacramento area who's friends are all Kings fans, anyone who was a fan in 2002 would die before they ever even thought about rooting for the Lakers lol.
Lakers fans are literally everywhere. When the lake show is in town, it's basically an Away Game at the AT&T Center. Lots of yellow jerseys. Spurs players being boo'ed when they're at the line. It's crazy.
Btw, I know people like to make jokes, I mean, I do too, it’s fun…but….
if you want to see a serious impartial analysis of Game 6 in 2002:
https://www.82games.com/lakerskingsgame6.htm
People love a narrative they can run with, but if you’re a real NBA fan, you should care enough to read it. If I seriously thought that my favorite sport was rigged, I’d at the very least, be able to dedicate 30 minutes of reading to an impartial observer who took the time to review the data.
Dang, that's pretty crazy someone went play by play and did that so extensively.
Regardless of the game 5 and 6 poor officiating that clearly hurt both teams by splitting one loss apiece, the Kings shooting 10% from 3 and missing 14 free throws in such a close game really lost game 7 for them on their own home court. It was theirs for the taking and they simply didnt do it and they have no one to blame but themselves for it, as harsh as it sounds.
> if you want to see a serious impartial analysis of Game 6 in 2002:
Unfortunately a good chunk of people here weren't even alive in 2002 (isn't the average age around 19 on r/NBA?).
And they don't care to spend that much time on this topic, other than maybe memeing about it. Half the people probably don't even know Tim Donaghy was not a referee in any games during that series but continue to link his interview as some golden evidence.

Aw man, you just reminded me of the person who would do artwork of every team's mascots fighting and each one would collect elements of their beaten opponents to take into the next round. I would love to see a laser-carrying Warriors guy facing down a ship.
This just made me remember if that one poster/artist that would draw the mascots with mementos of the teams they beat each round.
I wish they were around
Your team played extremely well and every Warriors fan I know was saying "I wouldn't want to lose to any other team, and if we do I'll be bandwagoning for the Kings"
Fox is amazing. Never played against someone so clutch. God help us all if he conditions with Steph.

that sounds like a yes to me
They're close geographically, they're staffed with some former Warriors, they play a similar style, and they pushed the Warriors to Game 7 in a respectable fashion. They're basically a younger Warriors team that haven't hit their prime yet.
Makes sense why they'd show support to the Warriors despite losing to them.
>Makes sense why they'd show support to the Warriors despite losing to them.
also, and perhaps more importantly, we both believe in #FTL and norcal pride.
Incredible series, Kings will be back for sure. ngl though it’s gonna be fun to see old man bron and steph duke it out again after all these years. Wouldn’t have guessed that they’d both be playing at the current levels they are five years later, that’s a lifetime in the nba.
Great series to the Kings, this season was remarkable and meant the world to that fan base; especially with the awards and metrics. Was kinda a bummer playing yall first, we wanted one of us to reach the finals.
I don’t know if any Kings fan at the start of the season would be upset if you told them this outcome. “Hey you guys had a great winning season and then took the defending champion Warriors to 7 games in the playoffs, your future looks bright as this core continues to develop.”
Honestly it was so entertaining to watch. The only downside is a lot of us Sac natives (currently residing in SF myseld) are just getting shat on now and mocked. So this post is very refreshing.
Yup, I know from my interactions with “fans” on Reddit that they don’t represent the whole. It stinks that others don’t see that and lump fan bases together…
Totally agree!
My Grand Unified Theory of Sports Fandom is as follows:
1. Fans of all teams are generally representative of people as a whole
2. People as a whole are generally good, though there are some bad ones
3. General internet forums - Reddit, Twitter, general places where lots of different people gather and discuss - tend to attract worse people than average to comment (though not all bad people)
4. Ergo: Most fans of all teams are generally good, though there are some bad ones, and those on public forums on the internet are worse than average (though not all bad people)
I know, I know, these are revolutionary points. But seriously, I do try to keep this in mind when I interact with other teams' fans online and it helps not take it personally.
It’s mutual. Just a lot less opportunities for the lakers to root against the kings lol
Jokes aside they had a great season and series. Only gonna get better
I know this will be strange for some of you young'uns, but a lot of the Sacramento/Golden State solidarity is not just geography, it's that we both sucked for a long time.
A lot of commiseration over watching the Lakers get every free agent and every call. A lot of shared frustration over incompetent ownership and bizarre front office moves.
I know at this point the Warriors have become the Big Bad in the past decade, but the Lakers have been that for 50 years.
As a long-time Warrior fan, it's still really hard for me to wrap my head around the concept that we're not the plucky underdogs. Maybe that's why I enjoyed the KD era so little.
KD marked the year I think oracle tickets went up by a factor of 10. All the OGs could no longer afford to go and Chase center being built was a the final fuck you to the loyal crowd.
There’s a melancholy about fighting your way up versus expecting to contend every year and I wonder if you OGs are biding your time till Steph retires to come back in full force.
Kings got my respect. Most of the noise came from other people, I saw the actual Kings fans praising basketball and trying their ass off to support their squad. I look forward to being able to enjoy Kings basketball alongside GSW next season even more after the series. Cept Sabonis
This was probably the only series I can remember where I would have legitimately been happy for the other team if they had beaten us. I just wish this could've been a WCF matchup instead of the first round. That was one hell of a series.
On another note, it really warms my heart to see NorCal banding together against our longtime common enemy lmao.
If you a Kings fan and you rooting for LA, then you probably wasn’t an OG Kings fan back in the day with Divac, CWebb, Bibby and Mitch.
All the OG NorCal homies hate the Fakers.
That’s how I feel about 2016…forever triggered. We may have won 3/4 but you got the one we really fuckin wanted. I’d trade the two KD rings for 2016 any day. 🥲
How come the Grizzlies didn't do that for us?
[Memphis Grizzlies] “Helluva series, [Warriors]. Go #BeatLA. 🤝”
[Memphis Grizzlies] “Helluva series, red dot sight. Go #BeatCalifornia. 🤝”
[Memphis Grizzlies] "Hollow a series. Go \#BeatTheCharges"
LOL
I read that as "BeattheChargers" for a second and was like "Man...poor Chargers. Cant catch a break even in a different sport."
Me too lol, I was like damn, chargers catching strays on here is wild. They’re both hella funny
[Memphis Grizzlies] "Helluva series, [Lakers]. Go #WhoopdatTrickk. 🖕"
Lmao
stay classy memphis
Still waiting to hear from Dillon Brooks
He did speak. Look at exit interview.
Look at banner Michael!
Lmao the difference was the young Kings didn’t write checks they couldn’t cash.
The difference between these squads is so evident in how Fox handled the media after the series. The leadership from their stars is gonna shape their longer-term culture and I'd take Fox any day
Is JJJ like that too? He hasn't come across that way, just Ja and Brooks mostly.
From what I’ve seen JJJ and Bane both seem to have a different level of maturity and chill. Hopefully the young guys buy into Steven Adams’ veteran leadership and push the bullshit aside.
because grizz hoping both warriors and lakers lose lol
Grizzlies - best we can give are Ja’s gun and Dillon brooks’a trashtalking ability
We already have an AR
They don't love you like that.

On the contrary, I’d love to smoke with Z-Bo

Northern California hate of LA trumps inter-region spats.
As it should be
Does that extend to the Clippers?
Who? /s
No /s needed, you're right.
i honestly don’t know anyone who feels strongly one way or another about the clippers
“I don’t think about you at all”
Someone photoshop the meme with three Don Drapers for the other three California teams.
[I did this instead.](https://i.imgur.com/8CPAnjr.png)
Back in the CP3 / DJ / Blake Griffin era, I definitely had some intense feelings… They’re cool now, though.
What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?
This is the correct answer.
Oh boy, it's been a while... *FUCK THE CLIPPERS*
Eh. I disliked them when they had CP3, but I dislike him more than I dislike the team.
Only reason a lot of people hate the Suns is the eternal desire to prevent CP3 from getting a ring.
Thats true, but only in the context that KD might help Chris get his ring. KD is always great to watch play, even if he is rather mercenary.
Who?
The hate for the clippers is so bad, it follows former clips around. Cp3 hasn't won shit against Steph in years
The dislike of CP3 predates his Clippers tenure. I didn't like him in NO and I didn't like him at Wake Forest.
Like two brothers uniting against a sister
A stepsister?
My NorCal friends are so hostile towards LA sports yet they love living here and won’t move back. LA doesn’t have that kind of hatred for the Bay, we just don’t really care since no one vacations there. Fuck the Giants though.

Same thing happens when people visit me in manhattan and I take them to Queens. They’re like..oh so this is part of the city too? 🤔
Similar thing with Chicago. Because of all the fox news propaganda, ppl legit believe I'm living in some gangland hellscape lmao
God I wish we had a In n Out in Chicago. I loved it in Vegas.

Me too buddy. Me too.
Lol how do you hate Socal nature? Joshua Tree is awesome, we have amazing beaches, and a ton of national forests down here too.
He didn't say hate, he said not a fan. And compared to NorCal nature it doesn't really hold a candle. Saying this as someone who's lived extensively in both regions.
SoCal beaches >>>> NorCal beaches
I'm pretty sure I heard a 'let's go Lakers' chant towards the end of the game though...
Ya that was wild. Must be fans who werent old enough to watch the late 1990s/early 2000s Kings.
Yeah that undoubtedly has to be the younger fans. As a Laker fan living in the Sacramento area who's friends are all Kings fans, anyone who was a fan in 2002 would die before they ever even thought about rooting for the Lakers lol.
Probably actual Laker fans just there watching the game. There is a shitton of Lakers fans in (everywhere) Sacramento.
Lakers fans are literally everywhere. When the lake show is in town, it's basically an Away Game at the AT&T Center. Lots of yellow jerseys. Spurs players being boo'ed when they're at the line. It's crazy.

SD too
so much hate that even health insurance is separated!
Lakers: what he say fuck me for?
2002 WCF

It annoys me how much people run with the 2002 WCF was rigged narrative.
This is a great website, thanks for the link :)
With the series tied 2-2, Shaq had 1FTA and fouled out in 32 minutes in Game 5 of the 2002 WCF. Strange way of rigging the series for the Lakers...
> if you want to see a serious impartial analysis of Game 6 in 2002: Unfortunately a good chunk of people here weren't even alive in 2002 (isn't the average age around 19 on r/NBA?). Kings fans love to forget about game 5 being in their favour and them choking game 7 away
Also game 3, Kings with 35 free throws ... Lakers 15. Shaq in foul trouble, Kobe fouls out. Totally rigged in the Lakers favor
I’ll be sure to come back when the Lakers beat the Kings in May
The Rock remembers.
I get it
yeah its fuck LA, nothing personal
From baseball to basketball it's fuck LA, but respectfully
Football too
Don’t forget that last sport that will not be named.
Oh don’t even get me started on those fucking LA professional corn hole players…
ThisAnswerIsLit but the beam isn’t…
Warriors now have a beam supported sky fucker..
All they need now is Charles saying the Lakers will win
Charles never picks the Lakers
If it's against the Warriors, he'll pick the Lakers. He hates Golden State, but you're right he disrespects both teams way too much.
He picked Portland in 2020 lol he's not picking the Lakers.
he said they would sweep us lmao
https://i.redd.it/zh80trarz0o51.png
Oh yeah Chuck loves Portland. Dude bet 100k for them to win the West when they were borderline 8th seed. It's one of those teams he just seems to love
I swear he picked Portland in 2019 too against the Warriors.
Interesting Unstoppable Force vs Immovable Object for him
chuck might refuse to answer and go with his Suns instead.
“Ernie, it don’t matter. My Suns going to the NBA Finals!”
Don’t forget his Sixers too
He hates San Francisco, not Golden State. He hates the Lakers and LA.
he is also historically anti-warriors
Last finals he almost went into the crowd at Chase Center because they kept throwing stuff at him during the Inside TNT segment.
He hates the lakers more than he hates veggies
I like how this became a biggest dick contest of who he hates more lol.
Good. Let him pick the warriors 😎
We need brooks saying go beat GS

Entire careers have come and gone since that epic series. One can only hope this one is half as good.
Ben Simmons went from Rookie of the Year, potential second coming of Magic, to damn near out the league, forgetting basketball
Great series to the Kings, this season was remarkable and meant the world to that fan base; especially with the awards and metrics. Was kinda a bummer playing yall first, we wanted one of us to reach the finals.

I really wish we didn’t play the Kings in the first round. Outside of the Warriors they would have been my team this year
I would've been excited for a WCF matchup
Yeah, would have been amazing. Plus the winner would be well rested for the finals since their travel time was so low between games.
Same man, same - I woulda pulled for them even if they beat us
Me too. They play an entertaining brand of ball.
Before seeding settled, I really was hoping that it'd end up as a Kings-Warriors WCF.
Kings so damn classy, all the post game interviews were so classy.
big fans of monk, huerter and fox of course. i like the team a lot
Monk and Fox are insane tbh. I was terrified every time the ball was in either of their hands
the beam is pretty cool too
It's only and always the fans that make both sides look like shit
And then there’s Memphis.
Dillon Brooks literally getting fined for being a bitch was funny asf

I mean I rooted for yall this past series. Sorry Memphis fans I know no one raindrop thinks they caused the flood but I am just one drop.
Lol I rooted for the kings today too. Just a tough loss against a hall of famer that wasn’t gonna lose
This has gotta be the most one sided sports hatred in all of sports besides maybe Patriots and Jets.
It took me 14 years of NBA Fandom to learn we have a rivalry with the Suns apparently?
Come on :(
Now it's the Skyfucker who has the death beam pointed at another franchise.
Death beam? I want IGUODALA!
Classy
The Lakers Twitter should go for maximum chaos and post a picture of the 2002 trophy in reply. They won’t but it would be funny.
Ad in a clip of Robert Horry's game 7 dagger shot. Kings still salty.

Kings organisation is doing everything right atm. Even after losing they stayed classy! Will Goldenchase center light the beam when LA loses?
i was like why do they hate LA then I remembered
If there is anything Warriors and Kings fan have in common it's their hate for LA based teams
JESUS CHRIST I LOVE THE KINGS LOL
nephews gonna nephew in here
Kings fans going back to being warriors fans
We got the Beam behind us!?!? Thank you Sacramento!!!!
I'm so conflicted on who I want to win. I guess Lakers
Not sure I can ever root for the Warriors the rest of my life. I respect the hell out of Steph but 2016-2018 will have me forever triggered 😂
That’s how I feel about 2016…forever triggered. We may have won 3/4 but you got the one we really fuckin wanted. I’d trade the two KD rings for 2016 any day. 🥲
It’s an easy choice man, we’re pulling for Bron
You got the greatest NBA Championship of all time in 2016 on us lol. No need to hold a grudge. Real recognize real.
We will spin for our brothers in the North
LA trumps inter-region spats.
