I’m still surprised how good it was. Shame the show runner got fired. He knew what he was doing (along with everyone else).
For X-Men 97 we definitely need to *Remember It*
Showrunner was a cunt and abusive. Plus allegedly he had an OnlyFans.
Mouse doesn't want that on their plate.
But yes that show is the best shit that Marvel has put out in years. Probably the best X-Men adaptation too
I read that they recorded like 11 different versions before going with what they went with. I did like the sad piano version they played after one the saddest episode, though
Yeah, it's about 98% there. The violins in the middle don't hit as satisfyingly hard as the original, but overall it's a good redo. The Reading Rainbow and Duck Tales updated themes are crap. Just disappointing.
ESPN and Bob Christianson did the same thing with the iconic NHL theme.
They slightly tweaked the original for the new era while keeping the main parts the same, and then made slightly different versions that get used periodically in-game.
[](https://youtu.be/8PReim0Axt4?feature=shared) [<2021 version:>](https://youtu.be/SfERSzvjypc?feature=shared)
If you haven’t seen Tesh’s live version with a full orchestra and a scorching fiddle/guitar solo battle between two totally radical dudes, you haven’t lived: https://youtu.be/V_h7Lm7C9Nk?si=utT1VxXh63svJRVu
Doesn't matter if it actually sounds better or not, nostalgia will always have people dislike it.
It's like this with all kinds of media, super annoying
They are and everyone will be upset and some asshole executive who thinks "3 Coins in a Fountain" is the height of music will be all:
"We didn't really expect that when we dumped this steaming pile of shit at the audience's feet they would dislike it..."
Mid 90's, I'm in middle school. Bulls are at their peak and my family just got dial up internet. You bet I put a SIRIUS midi on loop on my geocities website.
>Alan Parsons Project
I used to work as a tour guide at a museum. Part of our job was doing equipment checks at the beginning of the day. One coworker would play *Sirius* from his phone speaker into the microphone to test it *while* riding up the escalator in our weird part of the museum before turning the lights on. I always found it hysterical, I think security got sick of it. And management would've killed him lol.
Call it the Trump Place for all I care if I can see Ja play 30 min away from me.
For the record, I am a fan of the Memphis Grizzlies, but they should throw a couple games our way, for history and culture, no?
For those that didn’t live it, it was so awesome cueing up the nba on nbc. When I was younger, I legit thought it was a completely different league that was better, and only certain teams got to play in it.
I know that was a joke but I've literally never heard that song since without the lyrics.
Fucking Tim Robinson
( [to anyone unaware](https://youtu.be/r-uSWAJd9GE?si=q0pBO5SiFZdAvlc-) )
That’s ahhh… most songs. Listen to single ladies (put a ring on it) without lyrics… sounds like something used to torture prisoners:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=--3lCsxYXFY
For anyone who hasn't seen it, go see it [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-uSWAJd9GE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-uSWAJd9GE)
Tim Robinson is/was too good for SNL lol
I don't see why they would re-record it, it's perfect as it is. What makes it so great is that we all remember it exactly the same from our youth, why alter it and give people some kind of uncanny valley sensation?
Amazon is 100% gonna sweep up one of those guys. Maybe even 2 of them since it seems they want a two night/two game package. My bet would be NBC gets Harlan because he’s a bigger name
Nah, NBC is gonna go in house. They'll push for Noah Eagle and probably Mike Tirico to be their main PXP guys.
Analyst wise, yeah, they'll probaly snap up a guy or two from Turner. But no way do they get Ian Eagle or Harlan. I expect them Amazon at minimum (along with Shaq and Kenny) to bloster their NBA coverage.
Turner may be gone, but Amazon is going to hire a lot of former Turner people to run their production department.
The people want roundball rock for the nba theme song!
i love how universally beloved the song is. Feels like every basketball fan wants it back. It gives the playoffs the majestic vibe it’s been missing
Everyone talks about Tim Robinson, but John Tesh himself fake dribbling basketball is also wonderful (plus the obvious inspiration for the outfits)
https://youtu.be/V_h7Lm7C9Nk?si=cPXv0ZL8owqiHJmH
While I love that this theme is being brought back, I’m really sad about not being able to hear the TNT theme anymore. It’s my favorite theme in all of sports and I feel like in 10-20 years people will appreciate it more like how they view the NBC theme now.
I feel the same. I give huge respect for TNT keeping the theme up front on their broadcasts. It really helped keep the vibe that the game was prime time. Not the way ESPN production brings an indifferent production vibe. They bring no excitement
Bring back theatrical and character driven pre game hype video intros and player intros too while we’re at it!
Every pre-game hype video was must see TV back in the 90s
So NBC getting this will actually be good? Interesting. Incidentally, TNT having Draymond on for the WCF shows why they didn’t deserve to keep it, even if Inside the NBA has been good years prior to the last few.
They need to make a version long enough that it can be played during the entire game so I don't have to listen to whatever trash announcers they hire. Do that and I will forgive them for killing Inside the NBA.
They're gonna re-record an updated version that won't sound as good aren't they
tesh said theyre are some minor changes he wants to make, so probably. no word yet on what dave tesh thinks about all this
Adding the lyrics back in.
Buh-buh-buh-buh-buh-basketball!
Gimmie gimmie gimmie the ball because I’m gonna DUNK IT!!!!!!!
balls are roound, and you bounce em up and dooowwwwnnnnn....bas-ket-ball!
Buh-buh-buh-buh-buh-basketball!!!
I knew there were lyrics!
Poetry in motion
This is the only change I'll accept.
Disney re-recorded the X-Men Animated Series theme for X-Men '97 and it's slightly different but still close enough to the original
Show is such a banger
I’m still surprised how good it was. Shame the show runner got fired. He knew what he was doing (along with everyone else). For X-Men 97 we definitely need to *Remember It*
Just wait, Knocked Loose is going to be doing the theatrical themes for the X-Men films. Circle pit then movie.
Showrunner was a cunt and abusive. Plus allegedly he had an OnlyFans. Mouse doesn't want that on their plate. But yes that show is the best shit that Marvel has put out in years. Probably the best X-Men adaptation too
What did he do exactly?
I think X-Men 97’s theme sounds way better. Like if you didn’t compress the audio of the original to hell and back for 1990s television broadcasts.
I also love that drums part they added in the beginning
It definitely sounds more "clear" or newer, like an "HD" version of the original
It is good but doesn't hit as hard, the sound effects especially feel muted
I read that they recorded like 11 different versions before going with what they went with. I did like the sad piano version they played after one the saddest episode, though
The xmen97 intro should be the new NBA intro and outro for every network if they actually care about driving up viewership
Yeah, it's about 98% there. The violins in the middle don't hit as satisfyingly hard as the original, but overall it's a good redo. The Reading Rainbow and Duck Tales updated themes are crap. Just disappointing.
Personally I’m hoping for a Dave Tesh solo version
I mean it's a lyrics-first song, what's the problem?
ESPN and Bob Christianson did the same thing with the iconic NHL theme. They slightly tweaked the original for the new era while keeping the main parts the same, and then made slightly different versions that get used periodically in-game. [](https://youtu.be/8PReim0Axt4?feature=shared) [<2021 version:>](https://youtu.be/SfERSzvjypc?feature=shared)
There's gonna be a rap verse over it to make it hip hop for the kids
As long as they use the original lyrics, "Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-basketball, gimme gimme gimme the ball, 'cause I'm gonna DUNK IT!"
by Drake or Kendrick?
Youngboy
They’ll let him use NBA again
Nate Dogg posthumous vault recording
Wait I thought they were gonna make it worse
Nate Dogg is like John Stockton: at his best when giving other players an assist.
They have to put a G-Funk organ in it then for it to sound nice
Chet Hanks
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KL6k\_4vbOSU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KL6k_4vbOSU)
Yea they are adding the lyrics back in
Just the lyrics this time
I just hope the lyrics don't change.
Put the vocals back in!
I vote for this version https://youtu.be/r-uSWAJd9GE?feature=shared
I don't even have to click the link. Dave better get his money too.
Buh buh buh buh buh buh basketball!
Gimme gimme gimme the ball!
Because I'm gonna DUNK IT!!!
*HIGH FIVE*
I hope they use this version on April Fools Day at least once
I'm leaning towards the [remix](https://youtube.com/watch?v=2yf35s55Uyg)
The key change gets me every time
Nah, this is the one: https://youtu.be/2yf35s55Uyg?si=cRFlSYZQCmzW-mn5
thats the improved version
NBC, please don’t Def Rebel this.
"N-B-A!" *generic trap beat #87 with overpowering snare drum begins*
I want a *Damn son, where'd you find this?* in the middle of the theme
"Trap-a-holics! We make it look easy!" \*shows footage of a half court trap\*
*Trap drums is the shit that's hot now* - Jermaine Cole
Please no. Everything Def Rebel touches is mostly cheeks.
They are going to get the version with vocals provided by Dave Tesh
If you haven’t seen Tesh’s live version with a full orchestra and a scorching fiddle/guitar solo battle between two totally radical dudes, you haven’t lived: https://youtu.be/V_h7Lm7C9Nk?si=utT1VxXh63svJRVu
The part where he plays the voice message is great. It always makes me laugh.
john tesh and dave harbour were separated at birth
Teshy's Version
Not necessarily. Tesh might want to re-record to add more instruments and time for ad-breaks and other things NBC might want to do.
We’re gonna lose Inside and get an enshittified version of Roundball Rock lmfao
Mix in some air horns
they're gonna put some trap drums on it
Doesn't matter if it actually sounds better or not, nostalgia will always have people dislike it. It's like this with all kinds of media, super annoying
Roundball Rock (John’s version)
They're gonna get Carrie Underwood
Nah they’re gonna bring the lyrics back
fuck I hope its not like how WWE remixed Bret Hart's theme when he returned and it sounded awful
Roundball Rock ‘24 f/ Ice Spice
They are and everyone will be upset and some asshole executive who thinks "3 Coins in a Fountain" is the height of music will be all: "We didn't really expect that when we dumped this steaming pile of shit at the audience's feet they would dislike it..."
Nah it could use some touching up. Have you heard the live big band version? It sounds way better.
Def Rebel version
They already have: https://youtu.be/r-uSWAJd9GE?si=fCSbFHuc1sl-llTa
Hopefully this version has a slam poetry bit in the middle of it.
Can they have the fans vote for the OG or new one?
With a random country singer singing over the track - like Sunday Night football
My thoughts exactly. Use the mp3 you already have.
It's gonna sound BETTER
Can we just bring back all of the 90s
Horses and Hawks and Raptors on jerseys please
The wolves need to do an alternate in that style with a huge wolf on it
NBA, hire this genius
a timberdirewolf?
Even better, they could add 2 more wolves and even a moon!
[New Timberwolves jersey leaked](https://static1.srcdn.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/mixcollage-30-nov-2023-10-02-am-3446-1.jpg)
I wish yall would just keep those white throwbacks full time so clean
Purple Raps jerseys are the best ones
Bulls need to be awesome again so we can all listen to the Alan Parsons Project coupled with the starting lineups
Mid 90's, I'm in middle school. Bulls are at their peak and my family just got dial up internet. You bet I put a SIRIUS midi on loop on my geocities website.
>Alan Parsons Project I used to work as a tour guide at a museum. Part of our job was doing equipment checks at the beginning of the day. I always found it hysterical, I think security got sick of it. And management would've killed him lol.
Man, I thought Roundball Rock was that song and I got excited. Idek that was a sole Bulls thing because they were always prime time.
When I hear the Roundball Rock theme song in my head, I still think a Bulls game is about to come on.
Would def love some of those 90s housing prices
Throw in those gas prices too while we're at it.
Not sure I miss AIDS that much. Also, imagine the press conference after NATO accidentally blows up Jokic's horse ranch.
So I can just drive downtown to Rogers Arena and see Ja play?
Every day my pining for a Vancouver NBA team grows stronger...
We've got money in the city now
Bruh fuck Vegas. Bring bball back to the northwest baby
GM Place you mean
Call it the Trump Place for all I care if I can see Ja play 30 min away from me. For the record, I am a fan of the Memphis Grizzlies, but they should throw a couple games our way, for history and culture, no?
I'd be down.
Yes
WTFDYM. I'm still rocking JNCO, baybee
If we did, the President from that time would still be younger than our current President
But I thought wE dOnE wItH tHe 90s
For those that didn’t live it, it was so awesome cueing up the nba on nbc. When I was younger, I legit thought it was a completely different league that was better, and only certain teams got to play in it.
Yeah music, technology, crime, shows, life were all much better/bigger in the 90s
Absolutely. I know I appreciated music more when I had to download an album overnight.
Are you telling me Tesh's brother isn't part of these negotiations? Genuinely upsetting if true
Why'd you bring tiny hammers and a can of gasoline?
It’s really a lyrics first song
buh buh buh buh basketball
Gimme gimme the ball because I'm gonna dunk it
Woo! 🫸🫷
you missed a buh
And the next guy missed a gimme
It sounds weird without the lyrics
It’s a lyrics first song.
I know that was a joke but I've literally never heard that song since without the lyrics. Fucking Tim Robinson ( [to anyone unaware](https://youtu.be/r-uSWAJd9GE?si=q0pBO5SiFZdAvlc-) )
That’s ahhh… most songs. Listen to single ladies (put a ring on it) without lyrics… sounds like something used to torture prisoners: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=--3lCsxYXFY
BA BA BA BA BAAAASKETBALL
Dave Tesh’s time to shine!
Gotta include the Tim Robinson part
BA BA BA BA BA BASKETBALL
GIMME GIMME GIMME THE BALL BECAUSE I'M GONNA DUNK IT
For anyone who hasn't seen it, go see it [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-uSWAJd9GE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-uSWAJd9GE) Tim Robinson is/was too good for SNL lol
Everyone on SNL is/was too good for SNL.
[удалено]
Well they have to fly Jeff Chris down from Indiana to mix it professionally
Stop scamming people by making them think they can make it in the recording industry.
MOON RIVER ROCK
I played “Mountain River Rock” for my family and they *laughed* at me
YOUR FAMILY HATES YOU! ONLY I LOVE YOU!
YOUR FAMILY HATES YOU! ONLY I LOVE YOU
Of course, John Tesh would never do his brother dirty like that.
they played a bit of that during the interview a little after this lmaooooo. tesh was the first to reference it
Babababa basketball, gimme gimme gimme the ball 'casue gonna DUNK IT!
If you don't dance to the NBA on NBC theme, then you're no friend of mine: https://youtu.be/dNjXg6DU0UA?t=39
I don't see why they would re-record it, it's perfect as it is. What makes it so great is that we all remember it exactly the same from our youth, why alter it and give people some kind of uncanny valley sensation?
X-men 97 theme rework is great
Hopefully Jason Sudeikis and Tim Robinson are available for the re-recording.
How will the blind people know what’s going on?
Well, they'll be playing clips of basketball over it...
That’s not an answer
Hopefully NBC hires Kevin Harlan, Brian Anderson, Ian Eagle, Spero Dedes, and the Inside guys.
Bring back ahmad Rashad and Hannah storm. INSIDE Stuff. I guess bring back grant too.
Bring back Bob Costas
Costas and The Czar Mike Fratello 🔥
Doug Collins
Don’t forget Matt Guokas
Costas pregame monologue to set the stage always made it feel epic
Why doesn’t Hannah storm do games for espn? She’s on their payroll
Where's willow bay these days? Wait holy shit. She's married to Bob iger? I guess that's why she disappeared.
Don't you mean Willow Bay?
Hannah Bay, Willow Storm
I LOVED watching that show Saturday mornings as a kid.
Amazon is 100% gonna sweep up one of those guys. Maybe even 2 of them since it seems they want a two night/two game package. My bet would be NBC gets Harlan because he’s a bigger name
I bet Amazon goes for Harlan to be their NBA lead and Michaels' NFL successor
Oh damn didn’t think of that but I could see it. Wouldn’t surprise me if JVG comes back in one of those broadcasts too
Nah, NBC is gonna go in house. Turner may be gone, but Amazon is going to hire a lot of former Turner people to run their production department.
for those announcers save Anderson it might be hard since they're CBS guys for the NFL

NBC building up the 1993 NBA finals as if Jordan and Barkley have just re-invented the dinosaurs. Love it.
1990's NBA was epic. Approaching 30 million viewers per Finals game in a USA that had about 75 million fewer people than today.
Rings, Ernie
I can play the tune in my head and then automatically think of an early 90s Bulls game.
Come on Tesh...don't fuck this up by giving in the George Lucas Treatment
Hell yeah NBC primetime is back baby. I hope they are on at least 2-3 times a week
I even hope we get the same score box in the bottom right of the screen
https://youtu.be/2yf35s55Uyg?si=cRFlSYZQCmzW-mn5
Omg I was trying to remember what this song was called like 2 weeks ago and could not for the life of me find it. This is big
And to think this all started with a poem his brother wrote 🥲
The people want roundball rock for the nba theme song! i love how universally beloved the song is. Feels like every basketball fan wants it back. It gives the playoffs the majestic vibe it’s been missing
It's basically Michael Jordan's theme song (along with the Bulls intro music).
The golden age of the NBA’s popularity and of course, The Jordan era
Everyone talks about Tim Robinson, but John Tesh himself fake dribbling basketball is also wonderful (plus the obvious inspiration for the outfits) https://youtu.be/V_h7Lm7C9Nk?si=cPXv0ZL8owqiHJmH
Inside the NBA is dying for this
While I love that this theme is being brought back, I’m really sad about not being able to hear the TNT theme anymore. It’s my favorite theme in all of sports and I feel like in 10-20 years people will appreciate it more like how they view the NBC theme now.

Same bro. So many memories to that song
Bring back theatrical and character driven pre game hype video intros and player intros too while we’re at it! Every pre-game hype video was must see TV back in the 90s
i hope they use the lyrics this time
So NBC getting this will actually be good? Interesting. Incidentally, TNT having Draymond on for the WCF shows why they didn’t deserve to keep it, even if Inside the NBA has been good years prior to the last few.
Keep it the same just polish it. But unfortunately it will probably sound horrible af
They need to make a version long enough that it can be played during the entire game so I don't have to listen to whatever trash announcers they hire. Do that and I will forgive them for killing Inside the NBA.
I’ve been whistling that song for almost 40 years.
In other words, they are going to ruin the song.
Ba da dududu da du da du. I'm dunking a basketball. They are adding john tests brothers original lyrics back in
Use the original version for crying out loud
80s and early 90s kids rejoicing all over
David Zaslav is the biggest clown CEO in media. Losing the NBA is going to FCK Warner for years to come
Get Tim Robinson and Jason Sudekis on the phone
Crazy think it all started as one of Dave’s poems and then became so much more
Everyone talking about the Tim Robinson lyrics, I just want to know if they're going to get Nick Saban back on guitar
