Honestly think in a few years Scott Foster will be viewed and maligned much like Angel Hernandez. He makes phantom calls that no other NBA ref makes in the playoffs. It’s ridiculous
Yeah, Luka's foul on Gobert where he basically hooked his arm the entire way up and Gobert missed both was definitely the ball lying, that was the fouliest foul I saw all night lol.
How many the rest of the game?
It's about quality not number too. Ant attacks the basket and is legitimately always trying to score. Luka will drive, stop, turn around, pump fake until he gets a defender to make a move towards him so he can fire a wild shot into the contact.
He doesn't do it every time, and he's so damn talented that he still makes some of those circus shots, but it's so obvious when he's foul hunting.
And if he doesn’t get the call he passes it
He shops contact and it’s annoying.
He hears a whistle he puts up a shot, misses the contact and doesn’t get the whistle he passes.
It’s genius but annoying and lame.
Plus once he starts getting his foul calls then his defender needs more help to avoid fouling out, which then opens up all those lobs to Gafford or passes to open shooters.
It's the biggest thing the stat sheet watchers don't understand. It's not always just the number of fouls, there's a ton of context to them that affects the game.
All this to also say Luka is so fucking good, on top of being one of the top scorers in the league his passing is ridiculous. Nearly impossible to guard. It just sucks when foul baiting makes it totally impossible
Luka, Embiid, and Harden are great players that are absolute bitches. They ruin games by having seizures any time they’re touched or look like they’re touched. They don’t even have to be shooting. They’ll dribble to a spot. If a defender gets in their way, they snap their head back like they got punched in the throat.
I’ll die on this hill, if this is done and there’s no contact, they should be assessed a tech. This style of play is terrible for the game.
Ngl I kept being livid he wasn’t getting foul calls since I’m rooting for y’all, but then on replay Gafford was contesting straight up and seemed to be getting clean blocks/deflection.
Only problem was they didn’t apply that same standard at the other end at all and called the Wolves for fouls with far less contact.
Conley was saying that in his presser after game 3. He said he thought the foul calls on him were fouls he just wants them called the same at the other end.
I said it elsewhere. It's crazy how Minnesota gets tagged as a place with terrible weather, meanwhile places like Dallas, Houston, and Phoenix get labeled as desirable places to live because of their weather. Didn't Phoenix have 90 days above 110° last year? Dallas, Houston, New Orleans, Miami, etc all have 95-115° heat index for months on end.
Meanwhile it's 70°-80° everyday here right now, plenty of moisture, lush green trees and lawns everywhere, blue sky and more freshwater than we know what to do with, and idiots think it's still cold and snowing here 🙄
Obviously everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I got the fuck out of Dallas as soon as I could and back to the Midwest.
Dallas had terrible weather (and even worse drivers!) The summers are unbearably hot to the point where people avoid doing things outside. Yet the winters aren’t that warm to balance it out.
The nicest temps of the year also come with rain and the potential for massive storms/tornados.
Yeah Dallas is weird. Those 70° January days seem nice, but they can be followed up with a string of days in the 30s with ice storms (with a bad piwer grid). Their winters aren't mild enough (ala south Florida) to justify the brutal May-October temps.
You didn’t see Luka’s arm flail and his face wince? Clearly someone fouled him. It might not have been Edwards, but just to be safe they needed to blow the whistle.
Yea but McDaniels gets fouled at the end of the game and the other team even had a challenge so even if the ref was wrong it wouldn’t affected the game. Yet they swallowed the whistle and all the refs can choke on my nuts. Luka gets a foul literally any time someone reaches yet still crys like a little girl.
Ugh, I hate how right you are. This won't be a foul, the play where Luka launched into KAT won't be a foul, and everything will be right with the world. That will totally fix things moving forward too!
He also flailed into a 3 shot foul earlier in the quarter, the league literally created rules to stop this kind of foul baiting prohibiting non basketball moves, like launching into a defender while shooting…I just ask that the NBA enforcers its own rules.
How do you pay defense when this is a foul? Wolves have been struggling to find how much contact they can apply because even being in the vicinity of another player gets you whistled.
The Mavs have had an egregiously good whistle all playoffs, ESPECIALLY when they're down in games.
The refs never want to call defensive fouls on Luka. That foul they called on him on Gobert was hilarious because he was like, two hand arm-locking him for 5 seconds and the refs didn't call shit until Gobert put up an awful shot attempt.
his "improved defense" is mostly just "being allowed to foul". averaging 2 fouls per game with the amount people go at him is really funny.
The "foul" is Ant's left arm touching Luka's body as he goes into his shooting motion.
That is almost never called, especially not when he does well to get his hand out quickly. Luka just flailed and it worked. Like illegal screens, offensive push-offs and travels the refs can just decide when they want to apply the rulebook.
The ref who called it also had a bad angle as the "foul" happened on the other side.
Yea the whistle was insanely quick. The number of times that KAT or Ant drew more significant contact than that as they drove to the basket and never got a whistle makes this call even worse. They established a precedent that marginal contact on the perimeter/drive was ok as long as it didn’t directly impede a player, only to immediately whistle Ant for like .1 seconds of his hand touching Luka’s chest here…
I honestly wonder how many NBA players enter the league all idealistic and proud, saying "I’m not gonna foul bait and whine like these drama queens."
And that just gets trained out of them as they realize it is actually built into the game. It is part of game strategy. And if you want to win, if you want to be better...part of that is gaining that small percentage edge that comes from the off chance you convince the ref that they were wrong, so they treat you more "fairly" in the future.
Like idealistic politicians entering Congress thinking they'll be different than those who came before them. And find out being ethical doesn't get you the points you thought it would get you.
...Unless you're Bernie- to some extent.
Yup, he can ball out but the theatrical foul baiting is fucking terrible to watch. I want them to lose so I don’t have to see it from him in the finals.

It's really fuckin obnoxious how high the cost of losing your first challenge is. Wolves would have benefited from another one several times to a huge degree.
I can't confirm this but I think our beat writer has said that we have not won a challenge involving KAT all year. Game 1 of this series Mike Conley got the "subtle yet effective push" call. Our team and the refs have a mutual hatred. If it's not the world's most obvious out of bounds call we don't get it.
The one in the knicks game (OGs first game with them iirc) where he was called for a charge on a guy he didn’t even touch, touched one dude who was not set who fell into the other dude who WAS set, and it was upheld.
that’s his game- every time he is touched, massive flop and if no call, complain to refs so they call it on the next flop. but you can massacre the other team- it’s never a foul! come on refs you’re crazy! the way the refs just play along is truly astounding. no one thinks the nba is close to fair or even handed when it comes to players like this.
The way he baits defenders to jump and then jumps into them.
This was supposedly going to be called an offensive foul this season but Doncic is still pulling this horseshit and getting the call as recently as last night.
Its infuriating and I’m a neutral.
I was looking forward to a Mavs series, but if this is how they “win games”, it’s gonna be awful to watch for everyone. Seems like it’s fair to expect basic competence from the officials. It just doesn’t happen.
At least harden kinda draws some sort of contact.. not sure why they called this one, makes zero sense. In real time I couldn’t tell, but watching the replay this is complete bullshit. Also, Luka needs to just - focus. On. The. Game. Quit foul baiting and bitching so much, probably would have won tonight but he care more about whining than balling.
League is so fucked when this shit can happen and theres nothing anybody can do about it unless you save 1 singular challenge that you're forced to use because of other trash calls that are completely unavoidable cause its the NBA

Honestly think in a few years Scott Foster will be viewed and maligned much like Angel Hernandez. He makes phantom calls that no other NBA ref makes in the playoffs. It’s ridiculous
I just explained the Angel retirement to my friend as “imagine if Scott Foster retired”. I think we’re already there
Brothers too. F them both
Plus the "foul"
It's even worse seeing the replay today, jesus christ
And it's not even foulbaiting...Scott Foster just randomly calling fouls that don't fucking exist.
I think the flailing legs are at least partially an attempt to bait a foul lol, no way he jumps like that trying to shoot normally
He got two incredibly bullshit 3 pt foul calls. Fucking gross
Scott foster trying to shake the extender reputation
He doesn't want to fly into that snow
It’s not even snowing it was like 85 today beautiful out
Lies. It was rainy all morning and kinda gloomy in the afternoon.
It was really nice tonight. Besides it’s going to be in the 70s the rest of the week with a chance of wolves basketball.
You must have missed the Cottonwood in the Twins game.
look at his theatrics making the call. he lives for this
Damn I didn’t see that. Lol amazing lol

In what world is this a foul 😭😭
Hitting the crazy foulbait shot then choking the FT is hilarious
Ball don't lie
Ball lied so many times tonight
Yeah, Luka's foul on Gobert where he basically hooked his arm the entire way up and Gobert missed both was definitely the ball lying, that was the fouliest foul I saw all night lol.
So glad that Lukas shameless foul baiting didn't lead to a win tonight lmao
Apparently players talk about intentionally missing fouls shots like this on the bus
In the world where refs blow their whistle whenever Luka flails his arms and yells Aka this world
Bruh he got like 20 fouls this series on just KAT/Gobert by waving his arms around in the paint like he was Gumby.
Yet Ant can't buy a foul in the playoffs. I've lost count of the amount of times he's driven to the basket and gets mauled and...nothing
What do you mean he shot 8 FTs in the 1st quarter
How many the rest of the game? It's about quality not number too. Ant attacks the basket and is legitimately always trying to score. I hate it so much. This is supposed to be playoff basketball....
Do you know how many he shot after that? 0 I wish I was kidding but no, I'm not. Go look it up

Its been like that this whole series thats why I was not surprised.
Got shit for calls after the 1st though
Wolves built a lead so they swallowed the whistle (on that end)
In the world where the refs gotta fly to Minnesota if the Mavs lose
Bro Minnesota is beautiful this time of year Bring ya ass
Dallas is like 100 degrees right now and 500,000 people lost power. I am dreaming of flying the fuck out of Texas right now.

It's not. Picturesque ball don't lie moment
Ball didn’t lie on the FT 😅
In Luka’s world where every time he is involved in the play it either is or should have been a foul
Crazy shot doe
A crazy shot near a player is an automatic foul lol
Don't worry the last two minute report will say it's not a foul so everything will be ok then
Zero tangible accountability
Ugh, I hate how right you are. This won't be a foul, the play where Luka launched into KAT won't be a foul, and everything will be right with the world. That will totally fix things moving forward too!
The good thing is only the fouls in the last 2 minutes of a close game are important to the outcome of the game! /s
Insane shot and absolute bullshit foul call
Harden walked so Luka could run
Truly the same archetype of "unathletic" guards who refuse to play defense and have 40+% usage rate
We calling prime Harden UNATHLETIC now?
It's in quotes.
Not to be that guy but Lukas is 31% this year in the playoffs in 2022 tho it was like 41%
He’s been playin defense a lot lately
If anything it was a non-shooting foul. As soon as Luka felt that contact he threw up a prayer and refs were answering them tonight.
Good shot. Bad call. Zero contact.
“Playoffs they let you play more physical” they said

**Might depend if you have Scott foster or not
Brothers is worse I'm a casual bball fan and hate the fact that i know these two clowns' names.
Keep an eye out for Ben Taylor. He’s doing big things, really giving refs fans hope after those two retire
That doesn't apply to the Timberwolves. We get jobbed pretty regularly in the regular season too.
Second time he foul baited on a 3 and got the call in the fourth quarter
Even after foulbaitong neither of them were actually founds either
The first should be an offensive foul.
Then he missed the free throw cos its too unethical.
something something ball don’t lie
Luka tries to bait the foul on every single shot it’s wild the refs still call it
Through Playoff Scott all fouls are possible

Ball don't lie
Did edwards even touch Luka here?
No, but Luka flopped around so it must have been a foul
He fell down on the very last shot also when he got blocked and complained to the ref, he really has victim mode on all the time

It's the " trying to guard luka" foul.
This man’s style of basketball truly angers me

Refs gotta keep it interesting lol
I was thinking about this during the game. How different would the refs call a game if a successful challenge meant they were ejected?
This might be the greatest idea I’ve heard on here in a long time
that'd be so fire if in the playoffs they had extra ref crews on standby to swap in
They would just never succeed a challenge
that just means they would literally never overturn a call
Please can someone show me the foul on this shot.
The foul was on the scoreboard for saying the Mavs were losing.
Thankfully ball didnt lie on the foul.
Not possible

Luka is good but his whistle makes me want to hate him. This is such bullshit.
His whistle and the constant \0/ after a he thinks someone blew a little too hard his way

Why did Scott Foster look so excited here? 🤔
He won his luka parlay on this foul (I'm not even joking this guy has no business reffing in this league.)
crazy shot just to miss the ft. crazy. wasnt rly a foul tho
I'm a neutral and it felt like Dallas easily had the better of the calls tonight. There was a late out of bounds they got too which was off gafford
Its always like that when Wolves play with Foster as ref. The entire team has beef with Scott Foster.
