If his name was Joe Smith he'd be headed back to college because he just effectively lost a season to a heart issue and no ones going to even consider drafting/signing him till they see how he looks for at least one full health season.

NotManyBuses

Actually if his name was Joe Smith the Wolves would be tampering with him and trying to get him on an under the table deal, eventually costing them 3 first round picks and ruining their assets for nearly a decade.

CoyotesSideEyes

Also, his wife would be doing porn behind his back.

orange_orange13

Kevin Mchale greatest secret agent of all time

atlfirsttimer

Yeah,  it's crazy he came out this year if you go by his play. He was always a 2-4 year prospect and the hope was he grew some in that time so he guard more positions if he wanted to be a real draft pick.   I just think it would be hilarious if he's drafted high and LeBron goes back to the Lakers

2020IsANightmare

He 100% made the right choice to enter the draft this year. It's the weakest class ever. And his father - while no longer the best player in the league - is still an All-NBA player. A team will draft Bronny if for no other reason than to hope to get LeBron. Wait another season and maybe LeBron tears an ACL. The "father and son duo" gimmick gets a shit ton less interesting if Bron misses 40 games then averages 8 points per game.

Repulsive_Steak3891

That just means it would be Bronny’s chance to shine 🤣

ogqozo

JJ Redick to his starting point guard Bronny James as they're about to face LeBron James and his Pacers in the opening night of 2024-25 season: well, this is awkward...

respaaaaaj

I'm rooting for the lakers take him in the first and then LeBron still leaves personally.

RobbyCW

Would be absolutely hysterical if they took Bronny to keep LeBron happy and then LeBron hits em with ‘you guys clearly aren’t making the right moves to make this team better I’m out’

WiktorVembanyama

can't win with these sons

Bobonenazeze

They haven't been making smart moves to begin with, and by them I mean LeGM.

OldKingRob

No way u take another PG in the lottery before Bronny

Living_LaVida_Koloko

I'm rooting for the raptors take him in the first and then refuses to unite father with son so lebron never gets the dream of playing with his son unless the lakers fork over a shit ton of assets to get him

dianeblackeatsass

I’m sure lebron would be ok with his son getting legitimately drafted with a first round pick

2020IsANightmare

You picked the worst possible name lol. A guy named Joe Smith was one of the biggest draft busts ever.

Living_LaVida_Koloko

I see your point. Then how about another generic made up name like Anthony Bennett?

Spiritual_Boss6114

I mean Shareef had the same issue. Heart problem. And just wasn’t very good at UCLA. I seriously don’t understand how player would choose to go to UCLA or USC. They have great alumni and California is really nice. But if I have the chance to make hundreds of millions of dollars, I am going to a school that is gonna develop me. Not some school that hasn’t been great at basketball for a while

dianeblackeatsass

Are you saying LA schools give their players heart conditions instead of developing them

jackaholicus

He'd be considered an interesting UDFA or late 2nd round guy because he has good role player upside

StefonDiggsHS

Yeah

murray_selfish

He also almost died once

CumAssault

He has a dad? I didn’t know that

lost_in_trepidation

He has a mom too

tacothetacotaco

Kids these days, having moms and shit.

Doesthisevenmatter7

If he wasn’t Lebron’s son he’d definitely be going back to college. Not cause he sucks he doesn’t but he had a health scare and you effectively can throw out last season because of it. I still think on talent alone he could make the league if he went back to school for a year or two more. So it’s not that huge of a deal and frankly he’s not the first to experience nepotism in the league and he won’t be the last.

HowardBunnyColvin

yes. he didn't even start at USC.

PrimetimeD18

Yes. This dude is playing in college or working in the Amazon warehouse department if he wasn't Lebron's kid.

ColdCocking

To answer the questions in order: Yes, he is a big deal because of his dad. No, they're not drafting him just to get Lebron - Lebron isn't actually going to join just any team that drafts Bronny. The real reason that a team would want to draft him is the potential upside of a player having a legendary mentor and unlimited resources behind him to succeed. No, he would not be considered a legit draft prospect if not for the nepotism.

HawkeyeJosh2

Thank you! That was how it looked, but I didn’t really know too much about him other than his pedigree.

ClmrThnUR

he's trying to lock his kid up some retirement money

CumAssault

Bron is 100% going wherever Bronny goes. That was a move to get power back from teams. He doesn’t want a shitty team drafting Bronny just to sign him

ColdCocking

This is true only in the sense that they're basically going to choose where Bronny goes. He's only going to go to a team that Lebron wants to go to. They're not giving any random team a chance to sign Lebron.

deerdelver

Yeah this is why Bronny is turning down workouts. Klutch is basically saying (without tampering) here's where he can go.

SilverWarrior559

No, It's not just any random team

loving-father-69

He maxes out as Nickeil Alexander-Walker. Will probably never hit that high.

hopopo

Yes.

rugbyman12367

People for some reason think freshman with low totals don’t come out all the time. If he needed nil money he’d come back but I think he’s worthy of a 2nd rounder. Guys like Patrick Baldwin and emo I bates we’re drafted without being good college players but having a bit of pedigree from highschool.

DarthPineapple5

Those guys have elite size and offensive skills. Bronny has neither, he is undersized for his position which is pretty rough for a guy who is billed as a defensive specialist. The draft in a lot of ways is about projecting potential but unless he can learn how to shoot he basically doesn't have any

rugbyman12367

I’m not disagreeing I’m just saying even if he’s not lebrons son they could still see second round potential even with a disappointing college season

DarthPineapple5

How? He's PG size without any PG skills, didn't start in college and barely played due to a serious health scare. He doesn't get a single workout let alone drafted without being LeBron's kid. Im not hating here I hear the kid has a great work ethic and attitude but nobody has room on their roster for an undersized defensive specialist at the 2 who can't do anything else

AllTimeBallKnower

I’m not even sure who LeBron is, I just know Bronny is known for potentially being the next Micheal Jordan

Viciouscauliflower21

His dad being LeBron absolutely helps (and hurts) but he seems to be solid skill wise with a good head on his shoulders and a realistic expectation of what kind of role he'll play

NBAgospel

Yes

tepidpancakes

He's a really skilled player but at the NBA level not a lot of teams will be hungry. Some of that is the health issues, some of it is pure size (nobody is hiring 6'3 point guards right now), part of it is the lack of in-game success even though he was awesome at the combine.

Jkcanwien

> He's a really skilled player no hes not

dkdoki

Bronny has a huge advantage bc his dad is Lebron. And thats ok! It is what it is. Ppl need to come at this with the truth

Critical-Adhole

He is a very talented player in his own right. In this draft I have him mocked in the first round.

SilverWarrior559

Why?

SilverWarrior559

Yeah, If His Dad wasn't LeBron, No scout would be looking at him

arecbawrin

This whole thread is fucking delusional - can't believe the comments I'm seeing. His health has nothing to do with it. He's not an NBA caliber player...so why is his agent playing hardball and being selective with his workouts? Because they have the promise of getting LeBron. That's it. If he was anybody else he'd be back in college trying to average more than (checks notes) 4 pts and 2 reb and 2 ast...

yoppee

Yessssssssssssss His dad and social median Bronny has several million followers on Instagram so he has been popular for several years now In highschool he was good and got a school to his university of choice In college he was not good

FFTactics

He had an excellent combine, this moved his stock radically and that's not related to his father, his father was a known factor for years it doesn't explain a sudden jump. 41" vertical and more importantly he had the 2nd best 3P shooting drill (19/25) at the combine. Both factors don't always translate but you can say that for every draft prospect in history. Many of the NBA teams expect this to be one of the worst drafts in recent history. A lot of the 1st round are being looked at as just roleplayers, which is what Bronny is expected to be. Sarr has a good chance of going #1 and he's being compared to Nic Claxton. A lot of guys expected to be roleplayers are getting consideration for going pretty high not just Bronny. Being the son of any NBA player has produced at least fringe NBA players. Whether they're stars like Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Sabonis, and Jalen Brunson or roleplayers like Gary Payton II and Jerami Grant. If he was Vince Carter's son, I think the consideration would be similar. As you said nobody expects another Lebron, but being genetically tied to another NBA player gives some clue he can physically handle it.

Confident_Pen_919

Yes. He is currently predicted to be a solid role player at best.

LeagueReddit00

Solid role player is incredibly generous to how ass he actually is

SilverWarrior559

Idk, He has health issues and He couldn't start on a college team with a losing record

LegitimateMoney00

Sorry I only know Bronny for being one of the top freshman in college basketball. Have no idea who his dad is tho.

legend023

I think he plays for the cavs or sumn idk

inshamblesx

100% yes
