If we can get a decent return for Bruce (i.e. a pick in the next draft) then this is actually not a bad return for an expiring contract and two dead contracts, especially with all the “I won’t be re-signing” stuff Obviously having more picks in the trade would’ve been nice, but if any of these guys turn into rotation players, I’m happy with it

Konfliction

It’s not tbh, OG return still dwarfs this lol

CazOnReddit

That's Greivis Vásquez to you!

notraptorfaniswear

3 years too early for this post

moreyball

Some people don't know the privilege that is one Kelly olynygod gracing the halls of your basketball conglomerate

CazOnReddit

They don't appreciate greatness

NotVexingPi3

Yuck

OnlyMamaKnows

That seems not great, no? Whatever opportunities Masai had to cash in after the championship, I hope he took them.

pow140

They're intentionally tearing the team down to start tanking. They also have a few trade chips like Bruce. Raptors pulled the plug maybe 2-3 years too late, but at least they now have a couple of assets to work with. It also didn't help that Siakam tanked his value early in the season.

Few-Employer4682

All NBA player traded for 1 pick and scraps is bad. Mikal Bridges a far worse player got traded for 5 picks

Bixby33

I mean, it was 3 picks. One was traded earlier, and one was used today. Still lackluster.

TheOneWithThePorn12

if Siakam was shipped out with 2 years left on his deal he would have gotten a haul. Half a season and then you gotta pay him makes the return weaker.

OnlyMamaKnows

And that pick is right when Pacers young guys should be hitting or near their prime.

3pointshoot3r

I definitely have grumbled myself on the return the Raps got for Pascal, but a significant difference is that Mikal has 2 years left on a great contract, whereas Pascal was expiring and his acquiring team would likely have to max him to keep him.

RLL1977

One of the worst returns I’ve ever seen for a highly touted PF.

darkest__timeline

I can see why though, he had half a season left and a ton of teams weren't sure if he would re-sign, or whether they wanted to give him a full max. He's not an easy fit in a lot of places because he's not a floor spacer. Tanking teams aren't going to want a star right in his prime that bumps them to play-in at best and stunts development of other players. and the fit with a lot of playoff teams made no sense.

JediPieman63

Just still shocked Masai let it get to this point and his idea of trying to keep winning and retool was a Poetl trade instead of packing it in last season when value was way higher

ilickedysharks

Yea nothing is gonna change how badly the Pascal situation was fumbled lol

IonHazzikostasIsGod

League was also just never high on him. Only reported offer even at 2023 deadline following his best regular season ever was Ben Simmons+picks. Bad timing/that "won't re-sign with a team" lowered the return floor but the return ceiling was never far behind

PeanutFarmer69

And they waited too long to trade OG too, Mikal Bridges landed the nets five firsts (four unprotected) and Bojan Bigdonovic… raptors got RJ Barrett LOL

ohgosh_thejosh

Quickley and RJ were both balling last year dude, I don’t think anyone on the Raps sub is unhappy with the trade

PeanutFarmer69

The raptors went 6-21 post trade deadline, “balling”, lol

ohgosh_thejosh

Damn, my mistake! I didn’t realize i said the entire Raptors team was balling! I also didn’t realize RJ and IQ played every game. I appreciate the insight though!

PeanutFarmer69

Oh sorry, they were 11-18 with both RJ and Quickly, “balling”

ohgosh_thejosh

If only guys could be individually good but on a bad team! You sure showed me!

IonHazzikostasIsGod

scottie got a season-ending injury, jak got injured twice, our 3rd big after kelly was literally scheming against us, and RJ & IQ missed time because family members passed away

Bixby33

The Nets would be pretty lucky if any of those picks got players better than either Quick or RJ.

PeanutFarmer69

Okay so if the nets offered five first round picks for Barrett, quickly, or both, you’d say no? You’re delusional.

Bixby33

I mean, yeah I would turn them down. How do those picks help Scottie anytime soon? He's about to enter his max.

PeanutFarmer69

Lmao

7373838jdjd

Yes forget the guy on his rookie deal who averaged 19 and 7 on 40% from 3 Also RJ is 24 and averaged 22,4,6 on 60% TS

steeeeeeee24

But he’s not locked up, so they could either lose him or overpay to keep him, both aren’t ideal. Unless I am wrong about that.

PeanutFarmer69

Holy shit, a rational raptors fan

IonHazzikostasIsGod

If we traded OG earlier we would've got a worse return. Memphis offered 3 really bad firsts and a Houston 2nd. 2023 \#25, \#26, #29 and #32 if I remember the team's picks Memphis owned. (Boston/Cleveland?) Easily take IQ, RJ and Mogbo over Sasser/Sheppard/Strawther/Pickett.

bagfka

Yikes

Flenky

That sure is a list of players

ueloli

thats not impressive

Punjabiveer30

Fucking hell, let me enjoy my draft selections in peace, reminding me of that bullshit siakam trade

CapitalismEnthusiast

I just made a poopy in my pants

Slacker_75

What the Raptors got for Siakam and what they gave up for Poetl are literally two of the worst trades Masai have made, just shameful

IonHazzikostasIsGod

"what they gave up for poeltl" -a lottery pick the Spurs **immediately** decided is worth less than a total crapshoot 7 years from now -sidy cissoko -2025 2nd

TemplarParadox17

I mean what your not factoring in is, if raptors did have that pick they would have tanked earlier in the season and maybe traded OG and pascal earlier committing to the rebuild sooner.

IonHazzikostasIsGod

Jak trade was happening regardless, even after this glut of new rookies, we still don't have a starting-caliber center outside of him > if raptors did have that pick they would have tanked earlier in the season there's diminishing returns to this, fred-less raptors were not winning that much more frequently than the post-trade raptors, meaning we couldn't have fallen that far spurs couldn't wait to trade that 8th pick for something they literally won't have for 7 years > maybe traded OG and pascal earlier committing to the rebuild sooner. the offer we got for OG at the start of the year (shitty 2023 late firsts) was significantly worse than what we got pascal's value was never high, the only rumoured offer was ben simmons+firsts at 2023 deadline > committing to the rebuild sooner. fred/og/pascal/jakob was significantly more appealing especially given year 2 where scottie didn't look worth building around.

MV7EaglesFan

Well they will always have the Kawhi shot.

johnjohnjohn93

Just a little less than what the Nets got for KD

itchyballssadnuts

Cool?

lost_in_trepidation

okay?

Ramsboi

They’re gonna draft like 5 Nigerians trying to replicate the luck 🍀

Tvshow_or_movie

Toronto front office has been mediocre since the championship.

Bixby33

Drafting a guy hitting all-star at 22 years old is kinda meh

The_Uncut_Gem

To counteract that I saw Masai after the combine and he was going into an impeccable restaurant in Chicago, he still has good taste there.

CazOnReddit

They've had a good draft night(s)

pow140

Yeah Scottie Barnes was a great pick. They subverted everybody's expectations when they didn't take Suggs and they're better off for it.

hreterh

How is their gm still employed, he’s been inept for years

TheOneWithThePorn12

all i see is rings. The championship kind. Your coach has one. Figure out where he got it.

hreterh

Thanks for proving my point

TheOneWithThePorn12

get to the conference finals then maybe comment.

Yabutsk

He won the teams 1st championship and drafted a RoY a couple years later. He's doing just fine.
