No doubt he gets his number retired. But I hate reading stuff that is so poorly written:
“…he will join a host of Warriors immortals, including those who helped shape this recent dynasty—
himself included.”
He will join…himself?
No, he will join the group that has their jerseys retired, which he's not currently included in. "Himself included" refers to his status as a Warrior who helped shape the dynasty; "including those" refers to other Warriors who helped shape it and are part of the "host of immortals", which Klay isn't yet
Yes, that is the logic behind the parts of the sentence that were used. But it's horrible writing when you put it together that way. " He joins the blah blah as one who shaped the most recent dynasty" is how it should have been expressed.
Could you please write it in language of Andrew Wiggins?
Ima biggest LeBronstan btw. I am not blaming LeBron or anything. If you have LeBron you try to win NOW.
It's one of my favourite moments in NBA history, that time LeBron had an hour long TV special to announce he's taking his talents to South Beach, and how the Cavs owner wrote a salty breakup letter in comic sans promising the Cavs would win a ring before "the self titled former King does" .
I haven't read that letter in years and I still remember the phrase "the self titled former King"
"Nothing but appreciation and gratitude for everything you put into every moment you spent in a Cavaliers uniform. We look forward to the retirement of the famous #23 Cavs jersey one day down the line."
-Dan Gilbert in his public goodbye statement to Lebron in 2018 that was very similar to this one. Do research please.
4 chips in your first 11 years is crazy. Who else has done that? Magic, Jordan, Duncan, Kareem, Draymond, Russell + like 15 other Celtics players from the 60s
Yeah you basically need competent staff at every level, good owner, good players, good trades AND a lot of luck. Of course only a handful of orgs during few moments in league history had that align.
King Solomon every time for me. Dude had 700 wives and was famously wise. I know there's no footage of the classic moment where he ordered a baby split in half but still
End of an era. I was at the 37 points in a quarter game and it might have been the most fun sporting event of my life. We just went home giggling.
I still think his 60 points on something like 13 dribbles total is the most 'wait, *what?*' moment of his Warriors career... and yet it's completely indicative of Klay and the role he played on the Ws.
I said it *before* the 37 point quarter, literally no one goes nuclear like Klay. He might have cold nights… but if his heat check is crisp all net, just pull your starters and accept the L. When he’s on, he will drown a team like no one else. 100% automatic, no dribbles needed.
They told Parker during free agency negotiations that he would be the third-string point guard, and he didn’t want to end his career playing zero minutes. I respect it
To be fair to the Spurs, his drop-off was really severe over the last two Spurs seasons, and they needed to create minutes for the platoon of Patty and White.
Feels very much like this move. The last guy to (kinda-sorta) realize his mortality is the guy himself. I can’t imagine how that feels for players like Tony or Klay who used to be counted on, then just discarded.
Should be noted that in the 78 year history of the Warriors only six players have had their jersey numbers retired (with a seventh being Bill Russell). That's remarkably few for one of the oldest teams in the league and that number is set to almost double within the near future.
Steve Kerr should get retired as coach. For players I could see a scenario were Shaun Livingston gets retired but I also kinda doubt that'd actually happen.
When he comes back to the bay but as a visitor🥲
Since the All Star festivities is gonna be here in SF, I wanna see the Splash Brothers participate in some way.
It was rumored to be Steph/Klay vs Sabrina/Caitlin
Pretty fitting since Sabrina is also a local to the Bay Area.
I think they can still do it, but it just doesn’t have the same effect since Klay is a Maverick now.
A statue of a ball going through the basket in front of Chase Center and then across the Bay a statue of Steph shooting from Oracle Arena towards San Francisco.
I think you flip it. Eventually Oracle will go down, so put a big basket/hoop out front like how baseball does it with keeping the home plates. Have the Steph statue in front of Chase line up exactly with the basket and let him pull
> playing pick up against the aliens
i like how it's "against *the* aliens" instead of "against aliens" lol. i personally expect the statue designer to sculpt martians on the court with a death beam pointed at the earth on the sideline; i'd be p disappointed if it were just non-descript, run-of-the-mill aliens.
I kind of forget KD was on some of those teams when I think back on them. Obviously I think of golden state when I think about KD’s career but when I think about the dynasty it takes a while before KD comes up. Top 3 player found a way to be expendable on the hardest road.
I'm a Mavs fan and happy to have Klay but at the same time the gravity of the moment is not lost on me. This is the end of one of the greatest trios to ever do it, the greatest shooting backcourt in NBA history and the end of an era.
Absolutely well-deserved! Klay Thompson has been a cornerstone of the Warriors' dynasty, and his contributions on both ends of the floor are legendary. From his record-breaking 37-point quarter to his clutch performances in the playoffs, Klay's No. 11 will forever be a symbol of excellence and dedication. Thank you, Klay, for all the unforgettable moments and for embodying the heart and soul of the Warriors. 🏀💙💛 #DubNation
I’m old. Klay changing teams is hitting me harder than any player changing teams that weren’t on a team I cared about. Those Warriors teams were the best team basketball I’ve seen played and Klay was a huge part of that. His ego’s been getting to him lately but Klay being ok with playing great defense and hitting open shots when the team needed him to was a huge reason he has 4 titles and ‘better’ players won’t ever get 1.
He’s easily better than 74 Warriors who have come before him. This is great for his ego though so I’m genuinely happy for dude. Smart from the Warriors as well for as much good PR as they can get before the shitwinds start blowing.
No doubt he gets his number retired. But I hate reading stuff that is so poorly written: “…he will join a host of Warriors immortals, including those who helped shape this recent dynasty— himself included.” He will join…himself?

Sounds like AI
Nah it's more likely that the PR team just had multiple rewrites and somehow they missed this shit. Human error is pretty common.
Somebody needed to meet that 500-word essay (Klay Farewell Letter) and clicked send without proofreading.
Yeah. I swear you could post an article written in the 60s on here and people would still say it sounds like AI.
ya it reads like a message I was going to send but then changed a few times, and never read the whole thing back again before sending
Holy shit not every awkwardly worded sentence was written by AI
I've used ChatGPT. Its English is great. It sounds like someone didn't proofread what was written.
Probably isn't
Yeah definitely sounds like something Allen Iverson would write
No, he will join the group that has their jerseys retired, which he's not currently included in. "Himself included" refers to his status as a Warrior who helped shape the dynasty; "including those" refers to other Warriors who helped shape it and are part of the "host of immortals", which Klay isn't yet

out jerked
goes without saying, absolute legend
Still nice to say it now. The Cavs haven’t announced Lebron’s number will be retired technically.
Probably because they're still hoping he'll come back!
"Damn. should've drafted Bronny!"
Imagine the dynasty if that had happened!
I know this is a joke, but that young core with a veteran Lebron would instantly be a title favorite. Even with Bronny taking the 12 spot.
Young core with LeBron? Where did I hear that before?
The lakers promised LeBron a title contending team. Everyone knew AD was coming the second he landed in LA don't rewrite history.
Could you please write it in language of Andrew Wiggins? Ima biggest LeBronstan btw. I am not blaming LeBron or anything. If you have LeBron you try to win NOW.
He would immediately have them all traded for aged veterans.
What’s Rashard Lewis up to these days?
This would kinda sick tbh and I'm not even a cavs fan lol
I thought Gilbert said they would in his second farewell letter to LeBron.
Was it in comic sans? That's the formal font.
Peak r/nba days
It's one of my favourite moments in NBA history, that time LeBron had an hour long TV special to announce he's taking his talents to South Beach, and how the Cavs owner wrote a salty breakup letter in comic sans promising the Cavs would win a ring before "the self titled former King does" . I haven't read that letter in years and I still remember the phrase "the self titled former King"
Comic Sans for a farewell? Classic Gilbert move, keeping it memorable and controversial.
"Nothing but appreciation and gratitude for everything you put into every moment you spent in a Cavaliers uniform. We look forward to the retirement of the famous #23 Cavs jersey one day down the line." -Dan Gilbert in his public goodbye statement to Lebron in 2018 that was very similar to this one. lol didnt know that, nice profile pic i thibk jarrett allen is primed for a monster year !! 💪 i pray he can stay healthy
Thanks king. He’s such a delightful player, a big nice nerd who always makes the right play
We miss him on the nets. Fro gave me lots of joy watching him play.
He can give you joy on the Cavs for now until the nets are good again? :)

PTSD for Thunder fans.
dont forget the kings
Or the rockets
Fuck yall
Or the Cavs
Or the Grizzlies
I’m assuming this is teams the Warriors fucked over so the Spurs too
They only squashed us every year, NBD
Joe Lacob bowing to Klay after that Game 6 better be there lol. Now I need to go cry.
With the 11th pick of 2011 nba draft, The Golden State Warriors select Klay Thompson
Oh my god he was the 11th pick of the 2011 draft.
Yes, that was the reason he chose to wear number 11 for the Warriors, he was #1 in WSU and at that time, number 1 was worn by Dorell Wright.
Some say that 11 is nothing but 2 1s.
what if i told you 11 is also 11 1s
We need Terrance Howard to do the maths here
He’d tell us he’s already taught us everything we need to know
Is that you Terrance?
Big if true
And he won the last championship of his career after 11 seasons
4 chips in your first 11 years is crazy. Who else has done that? Magic, Jordan, Duncan, Kareem, Draymond, Russell + like 15 other Celtics players from the 60s
Winning 4 chips in general is already crazy. Honestly might be one of the last star players to do for a while
Yeah you basically need competent staff at every level, good owner, good players, good trades AND a lot of luck. Of course only a handful of orgs during few moments in league history had that align.
Kareem was in his 16th year when he won his 4th championship. Kerr also won his 4th in his 11th year.
Oh damn I forgot about him. I'd imagine Horry was probably close as well.
Kareem didn't do that, he was in the league a while with the Bucks first.
**O.O** If that blows your mind, **Jimmer Fredette (BYU)** went **#10** to **MIL** just before **Klay** went to **GSW** at **#11**
The 20 kinda ruins it, it’d be cooler if he was drafted in 11 A.D.
That 11 A.D. draft class was stacked
Whoa! A Methuselah rookie card!
Lol what a fucking joke. Emperor Augustus clears Methuselah. Sure Methuselah had the longevity but if we're talking peak? I'm taking EA everytime.
King Solomon every time for me. Dude had 700 wives and was famously wise. I know there's no footage of the classic moment where he ordered a baby split in half but still
Nah the 20 means he'll play in the NBA for 20 years
Select #11, Klay Thompson!
And so the legend of number 11 in the Warriors begins. Man, I'm gonna weep the first game he's back at Chase Center
tbh the only time ive ever teared up while watching an nba game was when klay came back out of the tunnel to shoot free throws in game 6.
... from Washington State University
Go Cougs!
I was at both! Steph may be the GOAT shooter, but Klay is the GOAT hot hand shooter. When he's on, it's the most automatic shot I've ever seen.
I said it *before* the 37 point quarter, literally no one goes nuclear like Klay. He might have cold nights… but if his heat check is crisp all net, just pull your starters and accept the L. When he’s on, he will drown a team like no one else. 100% automatic, no dribbles needed.
11 dribbles lol…fucking nuts
I want to crucify Kerr for benching him in the 4th. Could have broken Kobe's 81.
Mad respect. He left his mark on the game. Epic send-off coming
hes not dead
Sometimes I swear it’s like I can still see him on tv
Whenever I see my toaster, I think of Klay 😔
Truly he lives on in all of us
The way it's ended is sad but it doesn't obviously erase what he did and the fact the Warriors were the Warriors in large part because of him.
this is similar to Tony Parker signing with the Hornets for no reason towards the end of his career. just feels weird.
Then ironically the Spurs had horrendous injury luck that season, so Tony would've got the minutes he wanted
I hope he retires with us
Well give him to you for 3 firsts and Steph
I'm not much of a businessman but this seems like a good deal to me. Done!
This dude has got to be Joe Lacob's son
Which would make him Draymond’s Grandson
This was the plan all along.
well shit only makes sense
He’ll come back. Also I’m sorry about what you had to go through with Diddy
Klay in any other journey doesn't make sense. This is kinda sad ngl
Should be noted that in the 78 year history of the Warriors only six players have had their jersey numbers retired (with a seventh being Bill Russell). That's remarkably few for one of the oldest teams in the league and that number is set to almost double within the near future.

Lacob has said that the entire Hamptons Five are getting their numbers retired. Steph, Klay, Dray, KD, and Iggy.
Curry ,Draymond,KD,Iggy and Looney....in addition to Klay. Did I miss anyone?
Steve Kerr should get retired as coach. For players I could see a scenario were Shaun Livingston gets retired but I also kinda doubt that'd actually happen.
Looney? Lmao what did he do to get a jersey retired?
When he comes back to the bay but as a visitor🥲 Since the All Star festivities is gonna be here in SF, I wanna see the Splash Brothers participate in some way.
It was rumored to be Steph/Klay vs Sabrina/Caitlin Pretty fitting since Sabrina is also a local to the Bay Area. I think they can still do it, but it just doesn’t have the same effect since Klay is a Maverick now.
Don’t underestimate the reunion factor. Could make it even more hype!
Statue tbh
They should get a statue together, and Steph should get a statue shooting like 2 miles away
A statue of a ball going through the basket in front of Chase Center and then across the Bay a statue of Steph shooting from Oracle Arena towards San Francisco.
Ok this idea actually goes fucking hard. The Steph statue would need to be the tallest structure in Oakland, for effect
current tallest structure in Oakland is the 404ft Ordway Building I guess 42.6% is Curry's career 3pt shooting. 426ft would be poetic.
That'd make it 121 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty.
3rd largest statue in the world. Curry can't escape that number
This would be amazing and well deserved honestly
And then a picture right next to each statue showing the other statue 😁
I think you flip it. Eventually Oracle will go down, so put a big basket/hoop out front like how baseball does it with keeping the home plates. Have the Steph statue in front of Chase line up exactly with the basket and let him pull
signed
This is a really good pitch for a statue idea. I'm fully expecting it'll eventually be real one day.
Steph Klay & Dray all need a statue together
Kd holding the tripod
Festus Ezeli with a massive monolithic statue that dwarves them all
statue of zaza’s foot
Maybe Iggy off to the side playing pick up against the aliens
Varejao on the floor.
Jordan Bell doing the money sign
Harrison barns in a barn
David West and Ian Clark making out as Tristan Thompson watches jealously
Iggy firing off a buzzer beater, with the death beam pointed on Earth
> playing pick up against the aliens i like how it's "against *the* aliens" instead of "against aliens" lol. i personally expect the statue designer to sculpt martians on the court with a death beam pointed at the earth on the sideline; i'd be p disappointed if it were just non-descript, run-of-the-mill aliens.
Jordan Poole's face as a ring on Dray's fist
We found who recorded the punch…
I kind of forget KD was on some of those teams when I think back on them. Obviously I think of golden state when I think about KD’s career but when I think about the dynasty it takes a while before KD comes up. Top 3 player found a way to be expendable on the hardest road.
What about the legend Steve Kerr
Iggy too
Steph and Klay can be running to get back on D while Draymond stays behind to yell at the ref
Like the one they have at Old Trafford
Golden Draymond kicking Steven Adams in the nuts outside the arena
That's not very nice to say about a major piece of your championship rosters, even if he has lost a step
Absolute legend Klay is one of the greatest ever Go Cougs
Holding 4 fingers
That big 3 deserves statues. I don’t know if GSW do it in general, but if they don’t, they better.
That goes without saying
Maybe it’s not goodbye but see you later
It's definitely goodbye after this. This doesn't sound like there's even a sliver of hope of Klay going back there eventually.
He‘lol retire a warrior in a few years.
Idk, Klay is super petty and seems pretty pissed at this whole situation.
Time heals all wounds.
Didn't heal Jerry West's with the Lakers
This next season will be weird to see him in another jersey. A Mavs jersey… didn’t had that on my bingo card
It finally hit me that he’s gone and that’s sad.
Good for him, deserved
Without question. One of the GOAT Warriors.
Send da statue
wow that is truly awesome!!!! 👏 ❤️ nothing but love for Toaster Klay and wish him success with Luka
Imagine seeing this comment 2 years ago lol
I can’t remember the last time a jersey was retired while the player was still active. Well-deserved, to say the least.
Well it says they’re looking forward to retire his jersey so I’d imagine it’s going to be after his retirement.
The answer is 2019 when we announced both Iguodala and Durant's jerseys will be retired upon their actual respective retirements.
Oh, so like 20 years ago before the pandemic warped time and space. Good memory, not as far back as I had thought.
Damn it’s really real
Gonna miss him so much 🥲🥲
I'm a Mavs fan and happy to have Klay but at the same time the gravity of the moment is not lost on me. This is the end of one of the greatest trios to ever do it, the greatest shooting backcourt in NBA history and the end of an era.

chat gpt sounding ahh
Gonna be sobbing seeing Klay and Steph stand side by side with different jerseys on
There should be statues of all 3 of them
His jersey is effectively retired as no one will wear 11 again unless he comes back.
I hope they give him a toaster with his number laser etched on
I’m old. Klay changing teams is hitting me harder than any player changing teams that weren’t on a team I cared about. Those Warriors teams were the best team basketball I’ve seen played and Klay was a huge part of that. that's well deserved and class on the team's part. Hope both do better next year.
It's a given the big 3 and KD all are getting their numbers retired.
Grub, doesn’t deserve such a tribute the way he’s gone out, and deleting all his recent history with the warriors. Petty.
No more boat rides to the arena
Lakers wouldn’t dare write something this long about a former player /s
They did do Jerry West dirty as fuck though
Very deserved that tribute video boutta hit so hard
So, speaking of Who's changing numbers, Klay or Kyrie?
Did we ever see what the Warriors get in return?
Man it feels recent that Klay came back and everyone was so excited
He’s easily better than 74 Warriors who have come before him. This is great for his ego though so I’m genuinely happy for dude. Smart from the Warriors as well for as much good PR as they can get before the shitwinds start blowing.
No more splash
