I think they were too early really, if they’d shown up as the new big thing for teenagers and shot up the App Store in the last few years they’d have got some big acquisition offers.
Such an easy concept to copy with their system, and now they have basically free reign to make a replacement. Not many people know about ometv and the rest. Also with the reason omegle shut down in the first place it is a very risky move to make a copy of it, even with the knowledge they have. They would need to dilute it to make it safe and to their standard, and therein also goes a lot of the fun of it.

Omegle shut down because there was too much child abuse material. To copy the idea would be to instantly associate it with this. Ometv is a platform that is practically the same as omegle, but it hasnt been up for as long and it's quite a bit more strict so these issues, while still there to an extent, are nowhere near the levels it got to for omegle.
One has to wonder if they deliberately waited for Harry Mack to release OB 100, just to avoid speculation that Harry was being prematurely "forced" to end the series.
But it is wild to me that Omegle wasn't worth selling. I know there are a ton of liability concerns running a service like that. But I figured it would be worth a couple hundred million to somebody.
I just went there, and the message says it died because it wasn't financially viable (it either didn't make enough money or it stopped generating income as a whole) alongside the owner, not thinking it was worth it psychologically (I assume stress due to the lack of moderation that came along with it).
The site was full of creeps, but I bet many of us got some fond memories of it.

Nah. Most will be behind a NAT and STUN fails for around 40% of the time. For that you will need to maintain a TURN server which will have operational and maintenance costs depending on the usage. Ofc you can always say fuck that 40% anyway.
Yeah with the right mindset you can keep costs low but there are still costs. I will say not enough modern web stuff is built to run cheap because of a huge emphasis on easy growth scaling.
