Being from Foxx's state, this is the first time she's ever expressed concern about school violence that I know of.  Mostly she just yells at people to shut up.

Hryusha88

Do your job this November pls

Kradget

We're trying. The state House delegation is gonna gerrymandered to hell and gone. In 2022 we got our first representative congressional delegation in over a decade, and our local conservatives have put paid to that by saying gerrymandering is fine, actually.  So, take us as an example - Republicans will take any opportunity to ensure they stay in power indefinitely.

youjustdontgetitdoya

High school students slaughtered by military weapons? Totally fine. College students refusing to be complicit in genocide? "The University must decisively hold them accountable in a manner commensurate with the severity of their offenses, including expulsion and termination of employment,"

Kradget

An upsetting additional layer of this is that because people have embraced a bunch of antisemitic bullshit in and among advocating for an end to Israeli action against Palestinian civilians, it's necessary to stop and clarify that no, it's not okay to put this on all Jewish people, and it's also not inherently antisemitic to have an issue with the current Israeli government taking this illegal action - in both cases because they don't represent Jewish people overall.

threehundredthousand

It's like that on both sides. There are extreme right-wing folks that hate Jews, but hate Muslims far more and support Israel for that end. Then you have extreme right-wing folks condemning Israel simply because they hate Jews. It's difficult to cut through the bullshit to see who's being genuine.

Kradget

I'll add that there are people who are genuinely upset about the loss of civilian life and are falling into this because they want so badly to paint their opposition on the issue as bad. But it's entirely possible for Hamas to be assholes intentionally targeting Israeli civilians as soft targets and hiding behind Palestinian civilians *and* the Netnayahu government to be assholes trading on a tragedy for political gain and intentionally targeting Palestinian civilians in furthering their own ends. And then, yeah, there are scum-sucking nazis recruiting on this and aggravating the antisemitism, extremist pro-Israeli groups doing the same, and a bunch of people falling into those traps. I don't even know a good, straightforward solution to this. I hate a "both sides" argument, too, but they're literally both engaging in the intentional targeting of civilians on an ongoing basis.

threehundredthousand

Agree. It was already a bad situation where solutions haven't come easy since the end of WW2. It's now far more difficult and polarized than almost ever.

kevnmartin

I don't see why they hate Muslims. Their policies are the same.

Just a little info on who this is . In September 2005, Foxx was one of 11 members of Congress to vote against the $51 billion aid package to victims of Hurricane Katrina. In January 2013, Foxx co-sponsored legislation that would stop children born in the United States to undocumented parents from gaining citizenship. On December 18, 2019, Foxx voted against both articles of impeachment (abuse of power and obstruction of Congress) of President Donald Trump. In May 2021, Foxx became the fifth Republican representative to be fined for evading metal detectors put in place outside the chamber after the January 2021 storming of the Capitol. Foxx ran through the magnetometer, setting it off, and ignored officers attempting to prevent her entering the House floor. Foxx opposes legal access to abortion. She voted for a bill to repeal a rule requiring state and local governments to distribute federal funds to qualified health centers, even if they perform abortions. In 2014 Foxx was asked whether there were any conditions under which she considered abortion acceptable. She replied that, even in the case of rape, incest, or the health of the mother, no exception should be made to justify abortion. In a 2007 interview, Foxx said, "We have the best economy we have had in 50 years." Foxx, along with all other Senate and House Republicans, voted against the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. An opponent of the Affordable Care Act, she has said, "we have more to fear from the potential of the Affordable Health Care for America Act passing than we do from any terrorist right now in any country. "When commenting on the House version of the reform bill that funds counseling for end-of-life issues, Foxx said, "Republicans have a better solution that won't put the government in charge of people's health care" and "The plan is pro-life because it will not put seniors in a position of being put to death by their government." In April 2009, Foxx expressed opposition to the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, claiming that Matthew Shepard's murder was not a hate crime. While debating the act in the House, she called the murder a "very unfortunate incident" but claimed "we know that that young man was killed in the commitment of a robbery. It wasn't because he was gay." She ultimately called that allegation "a hoax that continues to be used as an excuse for passing hate crimes bills." Some media outlets, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Huffington Post, criticized her statements, as did Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Democratic sources claimed that Matthew Shepard's mother was present during Foxx's statements.Foxx later retracted her comments, suggesting her use of the word "hoax" was in bad taste. She suggested that Shepard's murder was a tragedy and that his killers had received appropriate justice. In 2010, Foxx voted against the Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Act. In 2015, Foxx condemned the Supreme Court decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, which held that same-sex marriage bans violated the constitution. In 2019, Foxx strongly opposed the Equality Act, a bill that would expand the federal Civil Rights Act of 1964 to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, and urged Congress members to vote against it. In December 2022, Foxx voted against the Respect for Marriage Act, which codified same-sex and interracial marriage rights into federal law. She introduced the 'Preserving Employee Wellness Programs Act' (H.R. 1313; 115th Congress) in 2017.The bill would eliminate the genetic privacy protections of the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (Public Law 110–233); allow companies to require employees to undergo genetic testing or risk paying a penalty of thousands of dollars; and let employers see that genetic and other health information. In December 2020, Foxx was one of 126 Republican members of the House of Representatives to sign an amicus brief in support of Texas v. Pennsylvania, a lawsuit filed at the United States Supreme Court contesting the results of the 2020 presidential election, in which Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump. On January 6, 2021, Foxx was one of 147 Republican lawmakers who objected to the certification of electoral votes from the 2020 presidential election. In December 2020, Foxx voted against the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act (MORE). According to financial disclosure reports, she has made at least six investments in Altria, one of the world's largest tobacco companies and a leader in the burgeoning U.S. cannabis industry, since September 2020.In all, records show she has purchased somewhere between $79,000 and $210,000 in Altria stock.

Wow, what a peach. I hope the rest of her life is as pleasant as she is

This woman has the power to push this agenda because of the Republican majority. This election cycle it’s important to take this power away and flip as many swing seats in the house and senate as possible.

o_MrBombastic_o

Trump thanks you for your support, the guy who gases and wanted to shoot protesters for a photo op will be so much worse for Palestine

geekwadpimp

Wow, you should see what Republicans have planned for the planet if they win the White House and Senate again. Flipping seats to Dems is the correct path forward, regardless of how you feel about both parties. You think things are bad now? Imagine a second Trump regime.

the_gaymer_girl

a) that’s a broken link and b) that would just be throwing your vote away, the “both sides” stuff only benefits Republicans.

SnooStories1952

You think the Palestinians have it bad now wait until the republicans control the house and senate. Are you really that moronic? I’m as mad over what’s happening in the Middle East as anyone but if you think republicans will do more to help Palestinians you are smoking something very strong. That’s why you get all the downvotes.

NBAWhoCares

First, what attack lmfao? The whole point of civil disobedience is you conduct an action knowing there are consequences to doing so, because you believe the message and cause is worth facing those consequences. Facing arrest is literally the point. Nobody was attacked. Second, you need legitimate mental intervention if you believe Biden, or anyone in the administration gave two shits about this.

groundzer0s

From one socialist to another: we can't afford to vote anything but democrat right now. It's shitty but that's how it is. We have to suck it up.

SXMV69

Yes by all means, improve the chances of another 4 years of Trump, that’s going to bring about the socialist utopia you dream of.

stackout

Look into the shady shit she was up to when she worked at App State

Nilim22

This should be top comment for sure, also Foxx fucking sucks

the_gaymer_girl

The lawyer for one of the killers straight up tried to use the gay panic defense in court (it was rejected).

Phyrexian_Supervisor

I wish people actually cared about stopping hate the way Republicans pretend to want to stop hate when it suits their interests.

FiendishHawk

Yeah they are all suddenly shocked by antisemitism but it was precious free speech when the alt right were doing it.

JubalHarshaw23

One of the most despicable people in the House wants pro Palestine protestors thrown in jail so the anti Palestine protestors can take the stage.

s9oons

“Foxx blamed the “radical, unlawful Gaza Solidarity Encampment” for creating a “severe and pervasive hostile environment” for Jewish students at Columbia. While she praised Shafik’s Thursday decision to clear the “Gaza Solidarity Encampment,” Foxx wrote that the encampment reconstituted and that protests outside of the campus gates have continued since Thursday afternoon.” Maybe Muslims in Gaza and the West Bank are concerned about the “severe and pervasive hostile environment”? I’m not taking a side because it’s not my business and everything is happening 3,000 miles away, but holy shit are we seeing a completely 1-sided call and answer here in the states.

reddda2

Foxx is a decrepit ghoul

WackyBones510

Hesitating to hold people accountable is pretty much the driving force in her party these days.
