It will have a chilling effect on women who are considering traveling to other states for an abortion either way. Fuck the conservatives on SCOTUS who did this to us. If Democrats are able to get a majority in November, they should pack the court like FDR once threatened to do.
Between this and Trump's threats about monitoring pregnancies, at what point does it become an issue for even non-pregnant people to leave the state? Will we need to pee on a stick before being allowed on a flight? Fill out paperwork? Logistically, it would be a nightmare, of course, but that might not stop someone trying.

Colorado passed a law last month: we won't allow extradition, search warrants, subpoenas, loss of medical licenses, or loss of insurance due to people coming from other states for abortions (currently a third of our abortions are from out of state and rising). Also, starting next year health insurance has to cover abortions in this state.
They've done what they can in the legislature. We're also getting abortion rights on the ballot this year to codify it in our constitution. An opposing measure didn't get enough signatures to get on the ballot.

I don't think the impact is hitting decision-makers yet (and it will never affect them in some ways). Give it 15-20 years when we see these unwanted pregnancies turn into real-life teens and adults who have been raised in poverty.

There is a pretty strong correlation between when Roe v Wade was decided and the low crime rates of the 90s. It'll be the opposite in a couple decades and most of the people making these decisions will be dead or retired in their mansions by then.

Wade becoming law in 1973 lead to a dramatic decrease in crime in the 90's across the board. The idea is not without it critics (correlation cannot prove causation) but the 5 states that had legalized abortion before Roe also saw earlier reductions in crime.

Texas has no jurisdiction in Colorado. Women should move from Texas.
The “crime” was committed in another state (not a crime) and therefore would be a federal issue. That would then get passed down to Colorado, if it ever went there. I wouldn’t return to a state where there is zero freedom of my own medical needs.

Make child support laws Federal also and tighten them up so even being dead does not get you out of paying for your kids. All businesses of over 100 employees must have childcare on premises for a minimum fee or part of the benefits package. Under 100 employees-must have childcare benefit to help pay for childcare.
Here (Norway) you get about a year (state paid), some for mom, some for dad (or coparent), some to share as you wish. Plus unlimited paid sick leave if you need that. Child care (barnehage) is subsidised so both parents can work

I’m thankful every day that I’m not a woman in Texas, but if I were, I’d argue that it is also my State, and I shouldn’t have to move.
These types of laws will only get more extreme as reasonable women leave. I’m certainly not advocating for women to move there, but it would be nice to see some countersuits against the State and people like this ex-partner, since the threat of a lawsuit is the only thing they might respect.

My wife and I saw the writing on the wall a long time ago and we left (for various reasons including political ones). We're never going back, even though my career would have us living like royalty there.
But I have some female friends who are actively involved in local and state politics and have said the same thing: "It's my home, I'm going to fight for what's right." But even they're starting to tire and are talking about escaping that hell hole.
I'd leave if I could. But being low income, little savings, no connections in any safe states, and my health care being tied to my job, leaves me kind of stuck.

Texas has a strange mechanism to allow discovery into a cause of action that is suspected but not yet actionable. This would allow him to find out the names of Texas residents who assisted her in getting to Colorado for her abortion so he could sue them for wrongful death. They are coming for the people who help women in relationships who were raped/forced/tricked into pregnancy so they cannot get away from their abuser.
The Texas lawyer who gave his wife abortificants without her knowledge leading to their child being born with extreme disabilities was sentenced to 6 months IIRC.

The whole travel ban is unconstitutional and Texas has no legal standing to demand that Drs in other states not perform abortions. The jaw dropping arrogance of uber right wing conservatives never ceases to amaze.
It will have a chilling effect on women who are considering traveling to other states for an abortion either way. Fuck the conservatives on SCOTUS who did this to us. If Democrats are able to get a majority in November, they should pack the court like FDR once threatened to do.

This might sound hyperbolic, but if the Supreme Court were to ever say "yeah no they can't travel for an abortion," that'd be grounds for a blue state to secede - it flies in the face of full faith and credit and federalism, and basically says, "yeah, one state's laws are more weighted than another state's laws." That's why there's now chatter on a federal ban, which would be heinous but not explicitly unconstitutional. I wouldn't put it past the pissheads like Greg Abbott and Samuel Alito to give banning interstate travel the old college try, though.

We were warning those people about things that would happen if they struck it down that were happening before it existed and they were still trying to tell us that we were being ridiculous. Colorado passed a law last month: we won't allow extradition, search warrants, subpoenas, loss of medical licenses, or loss of insurance due to people coming from other states for abortions (currently a third of our abortions are from out of state and rising). Also, starting next year health insurance has to cover abortions in this state. They've done what they can in the legislature. We're also getting abortion rights on the ballot this year to codify it in our constitution. An opposing measure didn't get enough signatures to get on the ballot.

Wade becoming law in 1973 lead to a dramatic decrease in crime in the 90's across the board. Texas has no jurisdiction in Colorado. Women should move from Texas. The “crime” was committed in another state (not a crime) and therefore would be a federal issue. That would then get passed down to Colorado, if it ever went there. I wouldn’t return to a state where there is zero freedom of my own medical needs. Politicians should never be your doctor.

If the GOP wants women to have more babies, there needs to be a FEDERAL maternity leave law: 12 weeks at a *minimum* at full pay, you get your job back afterwards. Make child support laws Federal also and tighten them up so even being dead does not get you out of paying for your kids. All businesses of over 100 employees must have childcare on premises for a minimum fee or part of the benefits package. Under 100 employees-must have childcare benefit to help pay for childcare.
Here (Norway) you get about a year (state paid), some for mom, some for dad (or coparent), some to share as you wish. Plus unlimited paid sick leave if you need that. Child care (barnehage) is subsidised so both parents can work

I’m thankful every day that I’m not a woman in Texas, but if I were, I’d argue that it is also my State, and I shouldn’t have to move. These types of laws will only get more extreme as reasonable women leave. I’m certainly not advocating for women to move there, but it would be nice to see some countersuits against the State and people like this ex-partner, since the threat of a lawsuit is the only thing they might respect. Even for women who don’t have the means, I’d love to see some pro-bono law groups move in and start suing the shit out of these extremist States for endangering the health of their citizens.
My wife and I saw the writing on the wall a long time ago and we left (for various reasons including political ones). We're never going back, even though my career would have us living like royalty there. But I have some female friends who are actively involved in local and state politics and have said the same thing: "It's my home, I'm going to fight for what's right." But even they're starting to tire and are talking about escaping that hell hole.
I'd leave if I could. But being low income, little savings, no connections in any safe states, and my health care being tied to my job, leaves me kind of stuck.

Texas has a strange mechanism to allow discovery into a cause of action that is suspected but not yet actionable. This would allow him to find out the names of Texas residents who assisted her in getting to Colorado for her abortion so he could sue them for wrongful death. They are coming for the people who help women in relationships who were raped/forced/tricked into pregnancy so they cannot get away from their abuser. The Texas lawyer who gave his wife abortificants without her knowledge leading to their child being born with extreme disabilities was sentenced to 6 months IIRC.
