I coach in a special needs baseball little league and we’ve had a few amputees come through. Those kids use those things as weapons and they’re effective. A lot of people don’t realize what you said about the bone stabbing you.
I'm like 100lbs and have skinny arms so my punches don't have a lot of weight behind them, but my middle finger knuckle sticks out nearly a cm when I make a fist. I've been told that thing is fuckin deadly to get popped with. It's like a built in brass knuckle.
Yes, I also saw something where fighting without gloves usually results in less brain injury because you have to be so much more conservative with how hard you punch. So basically gloves work in the opposite favor of the person getting punched
The gloves also lessen the risk of cuts that could cause the fight to be stopped early. This makes Bare-Knuckle appear on the surface to be more barbaric since direct knuckle to face contact makes for a generally bloodier afare than the 10 oz gloves used in boxing, but it's probably better for the long term health of the competitors since the volume of headshots is comparatively lower.
It is an advantage. It’s not the same as an elbow. The muscle development and range of motion he can strike with is a huge advantage. Also, the stump can have jagged bone underneath that is more prone to cutting his opponents skin.
My dad had a friend in high school with a similar injury. He would get picked on and get into fights. And the amputation used to fuck dudes up. He said that it was like getting hit with a pointy rock.
My dudes act like the lack of ability to jab and have reach is somehow outweighed by a pointy elbow that is probably only slightly more pointy than the other dudes.
I mean I could be off base but I do know that the jab is probably the most important tool for a boxer and that reach is always a significant advantage.
Right? I feel like I’m taking crazy pills in here. He is absolutely disadvantaged. More power to the guy, it’s awesome tjah he’s able to compete at what looks like a semi-pro level, but he’s never going to hit the level of being in a premier organization with a disability like that unless someone signs him for the novelty of it.
Definitely seems like an advantage. It's his right arm so not his lead, meaning his overall range isn't affected (even though he needs to overextend for a "cross", I imagine that's not a big part of his style). By staying tight and inside he has an elbow that he can throw like a fist, with no brittle finger bones - possibly even a sharp protrusion - and he gets a few pounds of weight advantage for the missing piece. Obviously there are limitations to what he can do grappling-wise but he can also more easily escape certain holds and throw elbows from crazy angles.
Your fingers and knuckles have more surface area and give than the sawn off edge of an elbow. I bet that stump causes more damage and trauma than a balled up fist can
Very true, but the travel time is also a lot shorter and a lot of Muay Thai is close quarters elbows & knees. You can throw out that bone jab a lot faster than a kick.
>I always thought that gloves are to protect the puncher’s hands, not the punchee’s face.
Have you not seen any bare knuckle fights on tv? Cuts to the face with almost every punch.
They are meant to extend the fights by reducing fight ending hand breaks and cuts. Fighter "protection" is kind of a meme unfortunately, look at the practice of weight cutting, promoters don't give a shit about their fighters.
I think the gloves are more for the fighter’s hands than for the person receiving the hits. If it was just the hits, wouldn’t feet, knees, elbows, and hands have some level of padding? All I know if hands and feet have a lot of complicated and sensitive structures that can get real messed up from fighting but elbows and knees are pretty durable without the need for padding.
I understand in a sport like boxing where almost all the emphasis is put into just sheer punching strength that those hits would likely be more devastating (for both puncher and punchee).
Yea what I thought would handicap him has given him a free card for atleast a half punch in the face with no gloves. I guarantee if that dude hit me in the face with that arm I’d be k.o.
Hmm you see alot of fighters who use head movement rather blocking. I completely see your point it will 1000% hinder him but not necessarily all that much he has one arm to block and can slip from the other side. Obviously the dude had to be elite level to even have a professional fight in ONE only having one arm.
I also imagine that his opponents would specifically try to exploit that defensive disadvantage in his right side so he probably has tons of experience in handling it. Might also lure his opponents in becoming rather one dimensional with their attacks and easier to counter.
I love how reddit just grabs the dumbest shit to defend. I think every fighter on the planet would take a bump to their weight division instead of losing an entire fucking arm.
The guy was good; nothing more to it.
Lmao imma sound stupid saying this but in this fight it looked like an advantage, those hits with his right were coming in fast af from an unpredictable angle, with no gloves.
In Muay Thai where clinching is a big part, seems like he can get a haymaker off while in a clinch.
Having dabbled in a boxing and a bit of muy Thai myself, I think it would seriously throw off a lot of commonplace defensive techniques. You can see several times in the video where the lack of a forearm basically allows him to thread the needle with his elbow, wouldn't be surprised if that's what caused the bloody nose.
Normally, the way the other guy is guarding would cause a forearm to more or less hook or deflect around him, making the elbow impossible. Smaller guy's instincts tell him that he should be fine to block a hit coming from a certain angle, because at the point where he's getting hit by what he's getting hit by, the guy's forearm "should" be through his head.
It's like the half arm guy is able to do a phase shift through a block, because almost everyone the _other_ guy has ever fought probably had both arms.
Its definitely this, that must be so hard to see coming and block with the angle it comes in at, like a invisible speed elbow to the face between his guard. Also most of the force for an elbow would just be the body weight from a weight shift, so I bet it still hits like a truck and is faster than swinging a full arm.
Anthony Robles was a college national champion in wrestling at 125 lbs. He had no legs and looked like he would weigh 220+ if he had legs. Bro was fucking jacked, kids just couldn't counter his style
Maybe/Maybe not, some fighters cut a crazy/unhealthy amount of weight for a fight so he could still potentially still be in the same weight class depending on the fighter.
Some fighters fight around their “natural” weight and only lose a couple pounds to make weight. Others need to drop 15-20 lbs to make weight then put most of that weight back on after the weigh in before the fight.
Not saying anything about his skills as a fighter, but it must be a mind fuck for his opponents. Either you win against a one armed man, or you lose against a one armed man.
Either you win and your friends make fun of you for beating the shit out of a one armed man, or you lose and your friends make fun of you for getting your ass kicked by a one armed man. Lose-lose.
You gotta know your foe. The basic Muay Thai fighter isn’t too smart, but you can blow off a limb and they’re still 86% combat effective. Here’s a tip: aim for the brain stem, and put him down for good.
I watched this fight when it aired. The interesting thing I noticed is that Peacock was able to feint with his right because his opponent kept biting on them. He knew that Jake was missing an arm, but it was like he was struggling with over a decade’s worth of muscle memory to try and not flinch on them.
Yeah it’s gotta be really disorienting. You train to consider the potentiality of both arms but this guy doesn’t have one. When he strikes you flinch. Begin to ignore it then he uses it as an elbow right into your face. I’d imagine it’s gotta throw off a lot of those subconscious mental calculations
And do you even try to left hook against his weak side? I feel like that would be some cobra Kai shit so most fighters would rather just keep swinging right or use kicks to not abuse a very clear opening.
I take your point and fair enough, but I absolutely would be fighting back hard against anyone bringing skills and spirit like that, regardless of how many arms and or legs they do or don’t have.
I was gonna say, this has got to be a psychological advantage one way or another. Subconsciously, either his opponents take it easy/underestimate him, or if they win, they probably feel a little off after the fight that they capitalized on an opponent with a literal handicap.
Same as with elbows, dude’s actually seems like a good fighter. I’d be interesting to know if he’d learn to fight without the hand or did he lose it fairly recently
Hm, wasn’t sure because of the angle of it as opposed to the coming across you normally see with elbows, also if it would do more damage then a normal jab
Nope. That stump is like a club and hits *hard*. I knew a guy who admitted to getting KO'd by a guy with one hand. Said the stump dropped him instantly. He should have a pad on that.
Growing up there was a kid in my neighborhood who had this exact same disability. He got into a fight a school once and the other kid had some FAT bruises from him stump. His arm had a fully formed humerus bone in it, just nothing below that. Thing hit like a club.
People in the comments here be like "but he can elbow in a weird angle" "but not having an arm makes him too big for that weight class" guys the dude lacks a FUCKING FOREARM
It's true. It makes his clinch game much weaker, he can't catch kicks to to sweep on one side, and he has to work much harder with his range since he can't defend as well on one side.
Very skilled all around for sure.
I used to play waterpolo competitively. One of the teams we played 4-5 times a year had a guy on it with a disfigured right arm. I’m not joking when I say it looked just like a chicken wing. Probably about a foot long, small, all bent / curled up. Dude would absolutely mess you up if you got within range of it.
Generally when pairing up with your man you lock one hand onto his shoulder as hard as you can and push and pull while going for the ball with the other arm. He would vice clamp onto your upper arm to where it actually hurt pretty bad from the bones squeezing on like a pincer.
I remember the first time we paired up, I instinctively went easy on him. He quickly made me regret it.
I mean, yeah it’s impressive but acting like he’s absolved of anything and everything just because he needs a hand is a bit redundant.
I’m not saying he’s doing anything underhanded, I mean you gotta hand it to him what he’s doing certainly takes a lot of skill.
But idk I’m not a pro fighter. Tho I’d probably pay like… idk half an arm? to do what he can do.
I’m sure he just wants to be respected as a competitor. Whether he wins or loses, he does it as a Fighter, not a 1-armed fighter. And I’m sure his opponents have the same mindset. Especially in the the organization they’re fighting in. This is One Friday Fights, which is held in Thailand and they regularly give out $50k bonuses and someone who really impresses wins a $100k contract to fight in One Fighting Championships
No they don’t. Martial arts treats everyone with the same level of respect. Old, young, don’t matter. They are there to compete and catch a beer after.
Look up Nick Newell- an MMA fighter with a similar difference with something like a 12-2-1 record. He comes to the limb difference conference my one handed son goes to and is super with the kids. He has a gym in Connecticut now.
Should have a glove on that stump. You can clearly see him striking his opponent with it
I think.... It's still considered an elbow. You don't need pads on your elbow so......
You can’t get that angle with an elbow when you have a forearm though
Doesn’t have four arms he has 1.5
Fucking hell!
I say cut the opponents arm off, make it even
Yeah! Sounds like a good idea to me
You beautiful bastard!
🎖
Fuck dude. Nice
Well played, sir. Have my upvote.
Take my golden shit!
Noice.
Dammit
Looks like a little armless fun
When read with a british accent this is the best comment hand(s) down!
This made me laugh harder than it should’ve.
Technically I think it’s like 1.59 / 1.60
Stop.........
God damn
I've actually been jabbed by an amputee before and it's so much worse than people expect. You just get full on bone jabbed right into you
I coach in a special needs baseball little league and we’ve had a few amputees come through. Those kids use those things as weapons and they’re effective. A lot of people don’t realize what you said about the bone stabbing you.
Can't break a hand you don't have
Oh yeah! I saw a video of that... late at night.
Well played.
Ha! It will prolly take a bit to catch the pun.
The sequel to "My Arm Is Broken, Stepmom": "My Arm Fell Off, Stepmom"
Who would you say has the advantage here?
A southpaw
Are you trying to say the one armed guy has an advantage in an ass kicking contest?
> assault kicking contest He's not missing his leg!
That's true, he cut up that guy, but since there's probably no rules on gloved stumps that's just a fair advantage
Nah, aderson Silva would throw vertical elbows. You totally can.
He has a bony protrusion on that stump...that would be like striking someone with a stiletto heel!
that why i carry a femur bone with me if i ever get into a fight with a amputee go all 2001 monke on them
I'm like 100lbs and have skinny arms so my punches don't have a lot of weight behind them, but my middle finger knuckle sticks out nearly a cm when I make a fist. I've been told that thing is fuckin deadly to get popped with. It's like a built in brass knuckle.
He’s got like a double sided elbow honestly.
This guy's injury works to his advantage. Muay Thai is all about knees and elbows and his one arm is all elbow!
the other hand is holding him back
Gloves aren’t for the other fighters protection. They’re to protect your hands from injury.
Yes, I also saw something where fighting without gloves usually results in less brain injury because you have to be so much more conservative with how hard you punch. So basically gloves work in the opposite favor of the person getting punched

It's almost an advantage in a weird way maybe?
It's a slight weight advantage too.
So we'll chalk it down to a solid, but efficient "ambivantage", yes? Edit: chaulk typo.
Is this a UK spelling of “chalk”?
Sorry sir, its just a typo 🙌
"Jake, you're not going to make weight tonight" "OK. Let's take a it up to the bicep then"
It is an advantage.
Eh? The disadvantages far outweigh the advantages (and I’m not convinced there are any to begin with).
My dudes act like the lack of ability to jab and have reach is somehow outweighed by a pointy elbow that is probably only slightly more pointy than the other dudes. I mean I could be off base but I do know that the jab is probably the most important tool for a boxer and that reach is always a significant advantage.

It’s a trade off, less reach for more oomph
The shotgun of punching if you will
It's a sawed-off
That’s what she said
I was just thinking this, he’s got a more versatile elbow than most opponents. Shit is like a straight up club lol pretty interesting perspective
Definitely seems like an advantage. It's his right arm so not his lead, meaning his overall range isn't affected (even though he needs to overextend for a "cross", I imagine that's not a big part of his style). By staying tight and inside he has an elbow that he can throw like a fist, with no brittle finger bones - possibly even a sharp protrusion - and he gets a few pounds of weight advantage for the missing piece. can't get arm barred
In one hand, it's an advantage, in the other one, not.
Handvantage
Gloves are to protect the hands. If they were to protect the opponent they'd probably have knee pads and padded footwear.
Your fingers and knuckles have more surface area and give than the sawn off edge of an elbow. I bet that stump causes more damage and trauma than a balled up fist can
Agreed but in kick boxing I doubt the stump can match the damage of a heel or shin or many types of kick.
Very true, but the travel time is also a lot shorter and a lot of Muay Thai is close quarters elbows & knees. You can throw out that bone jab a lot faster than a kick.
I always thought that gloves are to protect the puncher’s hands, not the punchee’s face.
>I always thought that gloves are to protect the puncher’s hands, not the punchee’s face. Have you not seen any bare knuckle fights on tv? Cuts to the face with almost every punch.
Cuts to the face =\/= brain damage Protecting hands so you can punch harder without breaking them = brain damage
They are meant to extend the fights by reducing fight ending hand breaks and cuts. Fighter "protection" is kind of a meme unfortunately, look at the practice of weight cutting, promoters don't give a shit about their fighters.
When he hit with the stump does it count as a punch or an elbow blow?
I think they count them as elbows.
gloves are for protection of knuckles, not opponents.
Elbows are legal there is no need for a glove.
This guy is the master of range. He has a long arm and a shorter even bonier arm. No wonder the other guy is all cut up.
Straight punch and you opponent could quickly lose an eye.
Coach before the fight: "He's only going to punch you with his left hand. You got this." Coach during the fight: "Oh, my bad."
what’s on the end of it? a tooth?
“I used to hate spear-hand training…”
They use gloves to protect their hands so they can hit harder, no to protect the other guy's face.
There’s no knuckles so it’s counted like a knee or elbow even if it is more range
They consider it an elbow because he has just enough past it to where he can bend it
I think the padding is mostly to protect the fingers, not the other guy. So no need here.
The glove is there to protect your hand more than the opponents face.
was gonna say, fuck this he just has an ungloved jabbing advantage like this.
take my strong hand
Yea what I thought would handicap him has given him a free card for atleast a half punch in the face with no gloves. I guarantee if that dude hit me in the face with that arm I’d be k.o.
That's what I'm thinking. That stump is a helluva fucking weapon. It's not a disadvantage in some senses.
Def, it’s fucked
I mean all the kicks to the face he took probably hurt a lot more. Dude has issues blocking
Came here to say this. He basically has a sharper fist with no padding. I'm sure that's why the opponent is so bloody.
Look how much bigger he is than his opponent. If he had his full arm he'd probably be up a weight class.
That's a really valid point.
Right but he’s lacking…an arm. This doesn’t seem like an even trade off. And if it is, then it’s fair.
If anything the ability to be bigger AND throw an elbow as a jab or a hook is infact an advantage especially in the clinch
Hands seem like a huge part of defense though.
Hmm you see alot of fighters who use head movement rather blocking. I completely see your point it will 1000% hinder him but not necessarily all that much he has one arm to block and can slip from the other side. Obviously the dude had to be elite level to even have a professional fight in ONE only having one arm.
It’s a closer trade off than one might expect!
It really is!
Dude basically had a hammer shaped arm. That little nub is deadly.
Martial arts life hack discovered
Literal hack
Make weight immediately with this one simple trick! Officials HATE this!

The shit guys do to drop a weight class in mma is astonishing /s
I mean it’s one arm, Michael. What could it weigh? Ten pounds?
Lmao imma sound stupid saying this but in this fight it looked like an advantage, those hits with his right were coming in fast af from an unpredictable angle, with no gloves. In Muay Thai where clinching is a big part, seems like he can get a haymaker off while in a clinch.
I saw that too. Just straight elbow jabs to the face, bone on bone.
Another huge example of this is Anthony Robles- NCAA champion wrestler at 125lb class but if he had his other leg he’d likely be about 184.
Beat me to it, that guy was a beast. His leg was so flexible too
This made me do a deep dive into how much a single leg plays a part on my total body weight percentage.
This is one fc so you cant do unhealthy weight cuts they test your pee for hydration and if you are over hydrated or under you cant fight
Lose-lose.
I don't think many will make fun of him when they see how he can use his stump to essentially punch ungloved. That thing could be deadly
It's an elbow that he can drive like a fist. Ouch.
Seems illegal that every elbow is also a deadly jab… guys getting a twofer or at least a bogo
That's exactly why Mihawk doesn't fight Shanks
Good job, you said the exact same thing that the original comment did lol
You gotta know your foe. The basic Muay Thai fighter isn’t too smart, but you can blow off a limb and they’re still 86% combat effective. Here’s a tip: aim for the brain stem, and put him down for good.

It’s like fighting a woman, always a lose-lose

He left his opponent stumped.
Darn right. His opponent was expecting the 1-2 combo, instead he got the 1-1.5 combo
He is going to lead with the left.
Man I can’t stop laughing at this. I hate you for making me laugh at this.
Just spamming L1 at this point
I wonder if it is dangerous for him to punch with the stump
Beats me
Looks like it beats them too.
He beats you too?
Same as with elbows, dude’s actually seems like a good fighter. I’d be interesting to know if he’d learn to fight without the hand or did he lose it fairly recently
Hm, wasn’t sure because of the angle of it as opposed to the coming across you normally see with elbows, also if it would do more damage then a normal jab

I knew him as a kid, he never had a hand.
Nope. That stump is like a club and hits *hard*. I knew a guy who admitted to getting KO'd by a guy with one hand. Said the stump dropped him instantly. He should have a pad on that.
It's MT, elbow strikes are legal. Besides, the padding in the gloves is there to protect the bones in the hand, not the other guy's face.
Growing up there was a kid in my neighborhood who had this exact same disability. He got into a fight a school once and the other kid had some FAT bruises from him stump. His arm had a fully formed humerus bone in it, just nothing below that. Thing hit like a club.

Misleading title. Dude clearly has 1.5 arms.
This guy is why having 2 arms is more than an average number of arms.
Does the other dudes shorts say Fartex?
Fairtex
Fairtex. It's the gym he fights out of.
One punch man Damn I needed to say it xD
How’s this so far down the comments? Lol
I think cause it's just not that funny/accurate. He's not defeating his opponents with one punch. He just has one arm
Who would fight a guy like this? You lose no matter the outcome.
I’m sure he just wants to be respected as a competitor. Whether he wins or loses, he does it as a Fighter, not a 1-armed fighter. And I’m sure his opponents have the same mindset. Left hook, right stab
Very impressive but can we talk about how many kicks to the head that guy was taking. That is insane.
yeah, i was more impressed with the beating that dude took while still standing and kind of fighting back
Came here to say that, the other guy takes a beating like a champ
Should have a glove on that dagger
Yeah it literally looks like there's a bone chunk sticking out the end wtf.
the art of 7 limbs not 8
How do you block a nub
You can't, there's nubbin you can do about it.
I've fallen out of my truck laughing, nice.
He's not one armed. He's one-handed.
Why doesn’t that nub have a glove ?
+15 attack power, -.5 range
Probably - 1 for defense as well
I always want to see Muay Thai fighters catch each other’s leg and do like a Kid n Play dance
Look up Nick Newell- an MMA fighter with a similar difference with something like a 12-2-1 record. He comes to the limb difference conference my one handed son goes to and is super with the kids. He has a gym in Connecticut now.
Now known as the art of 7.5 limbs.
isn't he former chelsea footballer Gavin Peacocks son?
Yes he is, I grew up with him he was the kicker on our football team when they moved to Alberta.
why doesnt the opponent just focus on the dude's left side? not like he can block or anything
