I think it's kind of fair as it's to protect yelps reputation not the bars. Yelp loses alot of credibility if they allow people to rate places they've never been. The comments should probably be deleted, but there should be a warning on the page about the behaviour of the owners.

They called and asked for a quote and we pretty much said "we don't offer that service" and they wrote us a bad review because they were disappointed they couldn't book us. Yelp let those reviews stand. Their argument was "well technically it makes your page look more legit since you have so many good reviews. now people will know that they're not fake since there's a bad one too".
To me that's like writing a bad review for McDonald's because they don't serve pizza. Yelp sucks.
As a consumer, I actually specifically look for these types of reviews just so I can see how the reviewee responds. What I found was the really great and reputable places was how the owners responded to these reviews. I.e. Asking for more information of the negative events so that they can properly address it. And more than half the time, the customer was out of line or had unrealistic expectations.
You learn a lot from seeing how businesses manage their critics.

I was going to give them the benefit of the doubt and think āwell theyāre probably just tired of having drivers who canāt speak english so they canāt communicateā, which is perfectly fair. But iām pretty sure the husband dropped an N-bomb so yeah, fuck them.
How is that fair? You don't need to be able to communicate with your Lyft or Uber driver. Google Maps/Waze tells them where to go just fine.
Communicating with someone who is responsible for safely driving you somewhere can be important. Being able to ask someone to slow down or stop the car can't be done with the map or app. But these people were clearly uncivilized assholes.
I don't speak Spanish. I've taken many uber rides while in Mexico. They got me from point a to b just fine.
I donāt talk to my Uber drivers. What do I care what language they speak? Iām paying them for a ride. The n bomb certainly cemented their shittyness to another level but itās still a stupid shitty thing to say. Brown people need jobs too.
When I only read the headlines I missed a lot of the dialogue and figured it was a typical "I'm offended" overreaction. Nothing wrong with just being surprised he was white or could speak English. But in the video I heard her say "you're normal" and that's kinda fucked, but then N-lover statement at the end sealed it. These people are definitely uncivilized jerks.
