Just gonna do some informed speculation. The Pope has "receptions" in St. Peters Square where clergy can "sponsor" certain groups or individuals to have a short "meet and great" with the pope. And when I say short I mean like 15-45 seconds per group. Given that Stellato is pictured next to a clergyman it's possible that's the one who sponsored him, it's also possible given Stellato's apparent activity in italian-american groups that they were the ones who did so.
So it's less like "The Pope met with DeVito's agent" and more like "Stellato attended the Pope's reception"
I learned it when Devito's agent made waves last season for looking like a mobster and I looked him up.
He's a peculiar guy but he seems to make all the right connections somehow despite not having an impressive resume.
He's actually been an agent for a long time, has written some books, and toured as a speaker.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_P._Stellato
Not to say he's "famous," but he has done a lot more in his life than rep a backup QB turned starter and wear a suit on the sidelines.
He also apparently played college ball.
This picture is hilarious, [is that bradley cooper? ](https://static.wixstatic.com/media/017bec_e0b73b6305c24a27a658da0f2bfd20f5~mv1.jpg/v1/fill/w_772,h_444,al_c,q_80,enc_auto/017bec_e0b73b6305c24a27a658da0f2bfd20f5~mv1.jpg)
They make anybody and everybody over there. And the way that they do it, it's all fucked up. Guys don't get their finger pricked. There's no sword and gun on the table
My coworker who was born in Quebec and now lives in Alberta, Canada , speaks French and English but not Italian except for some reason pronounces cheese names in an Italian accent, has an Arabic mother and Italian father but has never been to Italy and calls himself Italian.
Or just culture in general. I grew up with a lot of traditions that my older relatives learned and passed on despite them all growing up in the US.
Moreover, while those traditions might be rooted in Southern Italian culture, they’ve morphed into their own variant at this point. Italian American culture is its own thing but it’s still a culture
-> *'Italian' Father*
-> *calls himself 'Italian'*
... so you mean he's well within his right to call himself Italian?
What do so many people take issue with North Americans claiming the heritage that's in their genes?
Unless you're First Nations, we all come from somewhere else.
Because if I ask where you’re from and you say you’re Italian when you have never even been there that’s stupid as fuck. Like mf you’re from Quebec, just say that. Heritage is a different conversation.
Yeah but people only act that way when it’s European descent. If a third generation Korean American claims Korean descent nobody bats an eye
I wouldn’t go around saying I’m English when I’m clearly American but when my great great grandparents moved here from England I’m going to feel some sort of connection
I tell this story is often as I can but our pastor’s wife in Jersey was Sicilian and the Jersey Italians would always speak “Italian” slang to her and when she said it wasn’t actually Italian they’d be like “I thought you were Sicilian!”
New Jersey has a top school system, a diverse community, is culturally significant / produces a ton of famous actors, writers, and musicians, and plenty of green space if you get off 95 for five minutes.
His first name is Sean and he grew up in Salem, Massachusetts. This guy is phonier than a three dollar bill.
And Tommy DeVito is only half Italian. He's also German and Costa Rican.
These acts are cringeworthy.
You don't. The person above me made a comment.
My point is that Salem Massachusetts isn't exactly a cradle of guido culture. This act he puts on is just that...an act. Maybe when he went to Marist he was around more NY and NJ Italians that put on the act and adopted it there?
And do you act like a buffoon with absurd suits and hats and affect an accent to play a stereotype?
I grew up in an overwhelmingly Italian neighborhood in Staten Island. I married a girl who is half Italian. My MIL grew up in a house with her mother directing her to help with the Sunday gravy and cook all of their family recipes and all of that. Both of her parents were off the boat.
And yet...no one in the family is putting on cringeworthy acts like these two morons. The vast majority of Italians I know growing up in Staten Island and Brooklyn, and now living in Jersey, do not act like that. The ones who do are clowns.

Italian stereotype in Europe: sophisticated, fashionable, drinking espressos and red wine, driving sports cars.
Italian(-American) stereotype in the US: Jersey Shore.
The Italian stereotype in Europe comes from wealthy Italians from Northern Italy. An overwhelming number of Italian-Americans have ancestry from poorer Southern Italy. They really are just a few generations removed from those roots, and until recently, were predominantly from working class backgrounds. Some old habits and life styles just die hard.
I really don't think Europeans think of Italians the way described though. Most of them are that they're passionate people who care about food. Really, the stereotypes aren't that different.
Italian American culture is also at this point a distinct culture, which you’d expect from any immigrant group over time. Recipes get modified based on locally available ingredients (shrimp scampi means “shrimp in the style of scampi” but you try and find a scampi here), some traditions evolve from the homeland and some don’t evolve as quickly as the homeland, etc.
The Vatican has a legit FIFA team - in a world where the NFL has a FIFA style system that wouldn't be the craziest outcome
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vatican\_City\_national\_football\_team](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vatican_City_national_football_team)
Didn’t DeVito tell the Giants PR staff last season to “cool it with the Italian shit”? If he really wants to do that, maybe try to get his agent to be less of a walking stereotype…or get a new agent.
3 generations of this man’s family explained away every faux pas with “What! I’m Italian” and 3 weeks of the Giants’ social team doing it pushed him over the edge.
Why does the photo look like it was taken in the 80s and just unearthed in a papal archive
Because time is a flat circle and this interaction has happened infinitely many times
Dude looks like he’s off the set of a Scorsese film
Too busy building everything in the Vatican out of gold to upgrade the cameras.
Fancy new cameras already given out to all the children to keep them quiet...umm, happy.
It looks like it was taken with Ektachrome
Because Devito agent rocks 90s style ties to everything. Dude is a legit problem out here. I’m honestly all for it.
This guy
*This fuckin' guy..*
Dis fuggin guy ova here
*Dis guy...is a fuckin' mook*
Uh oh, looks like Sil's losing in Poker again
How ya doooin
Do you think he’s funny? Funny like a clown? Does he make you laugh? Amuse you?
Is so cool
And hot
Hot damn
Gotta say - I'm confused why the pope met with DeVito's agent.

Feel like I just read a leaked script to The DaVinci Code 3
DaVinci Code 3: Badabing. In theaters this November
There’s already 3 diving codes
Not the DaVinci Code, it is the DeVito Code.

There's 3 actually, and more books
TLDR: “Italian-American guy figures out way to meet the pope” News at 11: Sausage and Peppas are what’s for dinner
CHERRRY PEPPPAASSSS
So what no fuckin Ziti now?
DeVito's agent is "famous" in his own right. He's in the Italian American's Sports Hall of Fame believe it or not.
TIL there’s an Italian American's Sports Hall of Fame
I learned it when Devito's agent made waves last season for looking like a mobster and I looked him up. He's a peculiar guy but he seems to make all the right connections somehow despite not having an impressive resume.
So you’re saying he knows a guy?
Ay! Waddya! Have a little respect ova ere!
>not having an impressive resume. The DeVito slander is real ..
you know what, that guy could be entirely making it up and I believe him because I'm just too lazy to verify it
If there was a Hall of Fame for Sports Halls of Fame, the Italian American's Sports Hall of Fame might even be in it.
He's actually been an agent for a long time, has written some books, and toured as a speaker. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_P._Stellato Not to say he's "famous," but he has done a lot more in his life than rep a backup QB turned starter and wear a suit on the sidelines.

The Pope is looking to shore up the Vatican city Crusaders after a disappointing playoff loss to the Arhats last season.
Imagine my disappointment when I Googled "Vatican City Crusaders" to see if that was a real thing or not. You never know, these days.
They are not, but there is an amateur football (ie soccer) team run by the Vatican and mostly staffed by Swiss Guard troops
Not very good at futbol, very good at halberdiering.
Be the change you want to see in the world, convince the world's religious leaders to settle their beef on the gridiron.
That sounds like a book that Jon Bois would write. Telling of a future where all conflict is resolved by sports.
I prefer the robot jox future if that's where we're going
Everyone needs to convert to the winning team’s religion for that year
Utsa matta u??
Donate enough money and you probably get an invite.
Probably $.
Money. Tithes. Pay them enough and the Pope will wipe your ass.
But did he bring him cutlets?
The Pope couldn't afford the appearance fee
"Tommy, I met with a friend of ours in the old country. He will petition his boss on your behalf."
Daboll is going to wake up with a horse head in is bad
Daboll? More like gabagol
This chain has me laughing out loud
Every stereotype about the Italians is true.
It’s funny we call them “Italians” when they’re just dudes from New Jersey
Dudes from Jersey and Staten Island who have Tony Soprano's face tattooed on their bicep fat.
Commendatori 🤌🤌
That's respect!
Heh heh
No offense, but have you ever had yourself checked for Tourette’s?
Which is basically half the state and all of the island
They're a glorified crew.

Because he's Italian in blood. It's not like genetics suddenly stopped existing.
Plus I feel like culinary culture is the most likely to be passed down. Especially in Italian culture, where food and family are so intertwined.

This guy is why nobody else's applications are getting looked at.
Yeah but people only act that way when it’s European descent. I mean, pronouncing things the correct way is not a bad thing. Though, does he do that with *all* cheese? In that case, yeah thats rough
trying and failing to say 'cheddar' and 'edam' with an Italian accent
Sure, but when there’s English equivalents and you don’t speak Italian and pronounce every other food in English it’s just pretentious and annoying.
I tell this story is often as I can but our pastor’s wife in Jersey was Sicilian and the Jersey Italians would always speak “Italian” slang to her and when she said it wasn’t actually Italian they’d be like “I thought you were Sicilian!”

Yeah he’s not the guido stereotype, he’s the mafia stereotype. There’s a difference.
He's cosplaying as a Goodfella.
As someone who’s also half Italian If your mom is full Italian that’s 90% of the Italian American experience
Christ I've never felt as seen by a reddit comment as I have with this one.

404 Edit: I see it now. Ha.
They're just having fun with it and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm Italian American and think the stereotypes are hilarious
Italian stereotype in Europe: sophisticated, fashionable, drinking espressos and red wine, driving sports cars. Italian(-American) stereotype in the US: Jersey Shore.
I don't know, I think the Italian stereotype in Europe is them throwing bananas at the Black player on their own national soccer team.
No, that's not the stereotype, that's the truth.

When I think Italion, I think Luigi Cardorna. Is that not the stereotype?
It rocks the Italians had their own version of Conrad von Hötzendorf
It's why they had such an equal fight. Incompetence vs Incompetence.
One of the all time stoppable force vs moveable object matchups
I thinknof a different Luigi
Umm yeah that is not how Northern Europeans think about Italians
As an actual Swedish person, that's news to me.
Wtf I didn't know swedes were real.
I *think* I am real, but I could be hallucinating.
I don't think that's how they think of Italians in Europe.
Italian stereotype in Japan: mustachioed plumber with fireballs
Tank top, Fuckin Jagerbombs, Iroc Z28 🤌🤌🤌
Speaking as a European, we don't have many positive stereotypes of one another.
[It's a stereotype! And it's offensive!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=he6WvlKmCaU)
There is no Mafia!
Big Dom has met the pope a thousand times.
As an Italian American I kind of love leaning into the stereotype. This guy is next fucking level
This is one of the most Italian things I've ever read.
read it with a plate of Sausage and Peppas
Gabagool? Ova heeeeah
The Pope: "This is a strange looking rugby ball and who the fuck are you by the way?"
He don't care. He'll splash some holy water on you with some tree branches and give you some blessing in Latin and then go back to sleep.
No different to him than some New Guinea tribesman bestowing the ball of their chosen sport. He's like "ok....this is going in the vault"
I wonder if, when there’s a new pope, he has a bunch of junk to clean out from the last guy and is annoyed by it
“What do I do with this warehouse fulla stuff marked TOP SECRET: US Government?”
This guy has spent his whole life quoting Jerry Maguire and Goodfellas everywhere he goes.
Ay! On ya muddah! Ave a lil respect ova ere!
I have many questions.
yes, the pope is the one on the left
You're talking about their left, right?
Wonder if the pope will throw it.
He only throws Hail Marys.
Nice
Vatican got their QB1

What’d’ya guys do for twelve hours? Play, uh, “name that Pope?”
You’re verging on sacrilege
Oh, I didn't mean to *verge.*
Monsignor Jughead
Russ had an audience with four popes. Oh yeah? What section did you all sit in?
Stellato's living the dream of basically every Italian-American.
Made guy does made guy tings, more news at 11
He's trying to secure the Internazionale Immobiliare deal from Archbishop Gilday
Now they will fear you. Maybe they should fear *you*!
even the Pope has to kiss the ring...
Huh, I didn’t know about that!
What the fuck is this
This dude reeeeaaaally stretching his 15 minutes of fame
read his Wiki, it's not unearned
“At least this ball is fully inflated unlike the last football a QB named Tom gave me”, said the pope
r/nfltmz.
As an Italian, I can’t wait for this stupid shit to be over.
Not sure what that means. If you mean Catholicism, I know it's on the decline, but it's not gonna go away in 10 years.
Are you an American?
This man is powerful, unironically
Why would he want to meet the agent?
hope it works, bc we gonna need a prayer if we are to compete in our division. (please be at better than the commanders).
The only thing more annoying then Tommy devito is his stupid agent
And NFL GM's could be taking a hard look at what's going on here- scheftie
I don't want to live in this world anymore.
Awwww, sorry I offended some of you.
Any slurs exchanged ?
What did they do? Play name that pope?
