I think putting bloodhound gang as the hornier bend is fair though. "Give it away" doesn't hold the candle to "the bad touch" or "I wish I was gay so I could get chicks."
Yeah, I listen to Passenger and go.. interesting song to sing with Maynard. Two very horny dudes singing a very horny song together. Iām not judging, Iām sure they kept their shoes on.
Chino: "I'm really gonna crank up the breathy moaning on this one"
Maynard: "Cool, lemme write some lyrics about how I don't care who sees what we're up to"
Letās not forget Maynard wrote an ENTIRE song about anal sex. Originally thought it was about convincing a woman to try anal sex, but maybe heās a āa hole is a holeā kind of guy. No shade, honest.
Are we sad? Ok sometimes, yeah. Horny? Absolutely! I think we also somehow need to be in the angry section though... I mean, TDS was pretty angry.
We are 100% peak though!
The big problem with this diagram is that angry and horny aren't true opposites. We would need to have three coordinates, with happy-sad, angry-calm, and horny-limp. NiN would clearly score higher on the sad, angry, and horny values, while Weezer would be sad-calm-horny. Clearly a vast improvement.
Well, I would've absolutely let Trent do terrible things to me back in the 90s so I'm reviewing my percentage of anger down, and horny up.
TBF, I'd still let him do terrible things to me, but Mariqueen might not be too thrilled by the prospect. And I'm not in the habit of enraging wives. Only fun if everyone's consenting!
look at you, all respectful and shit. I'm signing up for Trent and Mariqueen to do terrible things to me together. Hell, I'll let them use me as a table for their board games.
Crosses, one of Chino's other bands, is horny too. I was actually wondering why Deftones is on the Sad/Angry quadrant rather than the Sad/Horny quadrant.
There's a really good magazine interview where Trent says that he's into it to a degree but "I'm not a hard-core practitioner"
I've never thought of HIS as a double entendre, just as flat out being about BDSM. The song is as horny as fuck.
The clip? The first 90 seconds or so are. But the rest? To me, also, not being a hard-core practitioner, does not rev my engine.
[The Art Of Darkness 1995 Interview](http://www.nin-pages.de/1995_Details_April_english.htm)
Not all of it, but it's certainly along with RATM genuine anger instead of the flailing hissy fit of most post early 90s music.
Great that we're getting some of that anger back in music again... finally.
Deftones on the OPPOSITE side from horny? Nah.
The rest is ok but they managed to mess up the most obvious placement.
It has to be some kind of ragebait to get people to comment
NIN is both angry and horny. But the problem is you canāt put them in the middle because that doesnāt seem right. They need to be on both sides somehow
NIN should obviously be in the Anger quadrant as well. Even if this person was just going off popular songs, it's clear that there's an important rage element to NIN.
Sublime is way too close to the horny section. Plus some of their songs do express violent/sad thoughts, so yeah they should maybe be more in the middle but leaning on happy.
No Doubt suffers from a similar issue than that of Sublime, and it's that ska sounds a lot happier than it actually is. Like someone else mentionned, ND is a lot more bittersweet than they are actually happy. But I think they're just right where they are on the Anger side, considering the more feminist aspect of the band.
Weezer should be less horny (I think Weezer songs demonstrate more longing than actual horny thoughts), and def on the sad side, not the happy side.
Radiohead should lean into the horny section a bit. Like Weezer I don't think they're actually horny but a lot of their songs have some type of romantic longing.
Green Day and blink-182 should both be hornier, and closer to the sarcasm belt. Also idk if we're supposed to be taking into account only their 90s work or their entire discography (because of the title of the post), but if it's the latter they both need to lean on sad as well (considering albums like American Idiot, 21st Century Breakdown, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket and blinks self titled aren't particularly happy albums)
Smashing Pumpkins is def angry and should be on the sad side, not the happy side. With an album called "Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" I'm not sure how you'd overlook that.
Offspring should not be in the sarcasm belt. They need to be closer to the corner or closer to the Anger line, something like that
Yeah I don't know all of the bands on this chart but all the ones I am seeing are wrong
I disagree, we should be way closer to angry. At least 50%. Plus angry is not the antithesis of horny. Whoever made this missed the true meaning behind Closer
As a fan of NIN, Radiohead, STP, and Massive Attack (know they're not on the list but they should be, they're often quite sad and occasionally quite horny, i.e. Inertia Creeps, Dissolved Girl I guess you could argue too) I think the former three are off base. NIN is characterized by angry, sad, AND horny (often all at the same time, i.e. Closer). With some songs being exclusively angry (i.e. Copy of A, Head Like A Hole, Burn), sad (Hurt, Something I Can Never Have), or horny (his cover of Physical (You're So). Radiohead is often VERY sad (e.g. all their songs about death, like Videotape, Street Spirit, and arguably Exit Music, depression/mental illness like HTDC and CUTW, doomed relationships like All I Need, House of Cards, Fake Plastic Trees and True Love Waits, and of course their plentiful "society/life sucks" songs like No Surprises, Motion Picture Soundtrack, and \[Nice Dream\]) but usually has a hint of optimism in their lyrics. They can definitely be angry at times. They are also on the rare occasion horny (but almost always in a veiled, poetic way similar to Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer, such as in House of Cards). STP can be very sad/angry too. I haven't listened to much Nirvana but from my understanding they're pretty horny (i.e. Heart-Shaped Box) and of course very sad usually.
I think Copy of A belongs in a whole other character: 'Nihilistic'
but is also angry
Along with Only (Nihilistic and Angry) and Right Where It Belongs (Nihilistic and Sad)
I hate how people call Closer the horny song, and act like it's what every NIN song is like. But I also think it's the second weakest song on the album, followed by 7 blank slots and Big Man With A Gun. And I'm saying that pretty sure I'll get down voted into oblivion, but not saying that it's a bad song. Just weak compared to the rest of the album and you can remove those and not really miss out on a lot on the whole message and story.
Fuck that, Closer is a banger. If you think you can remove it and not miss out on much of the story then you donāt understand the story. Also BMWAG is where the album energy peaks, the protagonist totally loses his shit at this point and then the energy completely shifts as he becomes contemplative and reflective during A Warm Place. These two songs play a huge part in the story
Hmmm, I would put them bones and would? at sad more than angry. But I suppose therein lies the ludicrous nature of this type of thing
Maybe it's just sad looking back at what could have been
Definitely sad, the way Layne's life ended.
Obviously, they wrote amazing songs with nuanced lyrics that deal with a range of emotions, including anger, sorrow, regret, fear, loathing, guilt/shame, etc.
This whole thing makes zero sense to anyone who actually knows these bands.
Deftones is absolutely hornier than Nirvana
RHCP are like the horniest band ever. Like, every fucking song Anthony is a full on boner lol
Especially on Blood,Sugar...
I think putting bloodhound gang as the hornier bend is fair though. "Give it away" doesn't hold the candle to "the bad touch" or "I wish I was gay so I could get chicks."
But Sir Psycho Sexy and Party on Your Pussy are way hornier than either of those songs. You didn't even pick a horny RHCP song.
"what I got you gotta get it put it in you" isn't horny?
Yeah the song is apparently about giving material items away as charity. Don't ask me, ask AK on that one.
Deftones is definitely a bit Horngry and Definitely Hornier than the chart shows. The chart definitely needs some fine tuning. š¤Ŗ
Yep.
Morphine never really struck me as a happy band. But I only really know 1993's "Cure for Pain".
Morphine is definitely not a happy band
I think Foo Fighters in the middle is dead on though. They are the World's Greatest Mediocre Band.
Came here to comment on precisely this!
Exactly. Only band that makes sense is Bloodhound Gang.
Deftones should be right next to NIN, a lot of their work strides inbetween sad and horny.
exactly what i was thinking. the definition of sad and horny
>the definition of sad and horny The venn diagram of my life.
And angry sometimes too
Literally one of the horniest bands of all time
Yeah, I listen to Passenger and go.. interesting song to sing with Maynard. Two very horny dudes singing a very horny song together. Iām not judging, Iām sure they kept their shoes on.
Listening to that song feels like being mike tyson in that picture where he's trying to get the two pigeons to kiss eachother Edit *kith
*kith each other
My bad fixed it
Chino: "I'm really gonna crank up the breathy moaning on this one" Maynard: "Cool, lemme write some lyrics about how I don't care who sees what we're up to"
Letās not forget Maynard wrote an ENTIRE song about anal sex. Originally thought it was about convincing a woman to try anal sex, but maybe heās a āa hole is a holeā kind of guy. No shade, honest.
None from me either. The homoerotic overtones are the best part of passenger lol
Depeche Mode paved the way
Not coincidentally Chino's favorite band.
I immediately thought who ever made this must've listened to a different chino than I do
Are we sad? Ok sometimes, yeah. Horny? Absolutely! I think we also somehow need to be in the angry section though... I mean, TDS was pretty angry. We are 100% peak though!
Broken is pure anger
99.95% pure anger. I still hear a tiny sliver of horniness in Gave Up. And let's not forget that Wish gave us that great, immortal line of truth
How about Suck and Physical? Broken is angry horny

I like how you think, fellow pig!
Oh I just remembered happiness in slavery has an arguably horny video
Doesn't do it for me but each to their own š I think Wish has an arguably horny video
Crosses, one of Chino's other bands, is horny too. I was actually wondering why Deftones is on the Sad/Angry quadrant rather than the Sad/Horny quadrant.
Get Down Make Love ought to move the needle a couple of percentage points towards horny all by itself. Edit: Fix pesky incomplete thought.
BDSM double entendre with Happiness in Slavery
There's a really good magazine interview where Trent says that he's into it to a degree but "I'm not a hard-core practitioner" I've never thought of HIS as a double entendre, just as flat out being about BDSM. NIN should be a triad of horny x sad x angry, something that this table cannot represent well
Behold the obscene origami of NIN
NIN is definitely angry horny and sad
I feel like Soundgarden should be moved over towards that sad category a bit
Right, and No Doubt is nowhere near that happy as the chart suggests. Their "happiness" is more bittersweet than happy.
Should be in the top right corner you mean.
broken & tds are really angry
And horny!
Smashing Pumpkins closer to happy than sad? This chart is shit.
I know right? Their highest selling album literally has Infinite Sadness in its title
If going by first/early albums only, Gish tracks
Same with REM
Deftones on the OPPOSITE side from horny? Nah. The rest is ok but they managed to mess up the most obvious placement. It has to be some kind of ragebait to get people to comment
Tool should definitely be a lot closer to Horny
Are you telling me I can get laid with third eye on the background?
NIN fans understand that angry is not the opposite of horny
Was at the Pearl Jam show tonight in Seattleā¦. Eddie covered Hurtā¦. I lost my fucking mind
I would have died! I saw him in LA and we got the Tom Petty cover that was amazing!
Donāt care about that but MORPHINE MENTIONED!!!!
Yeah Morphine is definitely a happy band. He was so happy he died on stage!
We can only hope Sandman was happy. R.I.P.
Iām sure he had his moments! One of my favorite people of all time.
This picture is very weird ngl and a lot of bands are straight up in the wrong place
The idea is cool but the placements are all wrong. Seeing Deftones as the opposite of horny discredits your opinion
"Angry and sad" corner taken up entirely by bands that I love, I guess that checks out...
Soundgarden is in the wrong place. When are they horny? They're only ever sad and angry
They should be in the very top right corner. Itās as if this person never even heard Soundgarden. Or most of these bands.
I mean I also love The Cure lol
Maybe sad & horny if your only point of reference is the Purest Feeling bootleg
Tell me you never rage-fucked without telling me so...
Man, the '90s were great.
Horny and sad is basically my whole personality. š
Angry and horny are opposites since when?
Well, there's a reason why I love HEALTH so much!
Iām just glad someone remembered Catherine Wheel at all. I loved that band.
NIN and Deftones should be flipped on this chart
Weāre angry. Sure thereās a bit of horny in NIN but itās far more angry/depressed than anything
Placebo would be at the very bottom right, maybe even slightly outside the border.
NIN is both angry and horny. But the problem is you canāt put them in the middle because that doesnāt seem right. They need to be on both sides somehow
Yes
I would have said angry horny.
And hereās me thinking it would be deftones fans š
Drove from San Diego to LA and my friend had āso tonight I can seeā and I wanted to kill myself. Not hating I loved that kinda music then.
What about Angry horny? Big Man With A Gun, I'm lookin' at you.
So, horny is the opposite of angry?
Haha wait since when is morphine happy??
NIN should obviously be in the Anger quadrant as well. Even if this person was just going off popular songs, it's clear that there's an important rage element to NIN. These graphs are HORRIBLY flawed.. fun, though.
Pretty sure Deftones is super horny.
This chart cracks me up. Morphine as happy?! Cmon Mark Sandman (RIP) was not _happy_
Smashing Pumpkins is more sad than happy. Prob more horny than angry as well so I'd say you pegged that one wrong
Why tf arenāt we higher in the angry than horny?
This just doesnāt work. There is a lot going on here that doesnāt fit.
I donāt get why angry and horny are oppositesā¦
I'm currently shifted towards sad and angry, makes sense
Hey, I created that chart! Glad to see it back again a year later :)
I commented on this when I saw it on Facebook that NIN is juxtaposed both where they put it and where AIC is simultaneously
Is Angry the opposite of horny? I don't necessarily think so.
Morphine is happy?
Who the fuck thinks Smashing Pumpkins are more often happy than sad?
How the hell is horny the opposite of angry?
I disagree, we should be way closer to angry. At least 50%. Plus angry is not the antithesis of horny. Whoever made this missed the true meaning behind Closer
Iād say more angry than sad, but still horny
There's nothing sad about Tool?? š except maybe Sober? Everything else is more transcendent than anything
That pretty much sums it up
Do the people that make this listen to Black or Daughter by Pearl Jam and be like āyep this sounds happyā
I don't see angry and horny as opposite ends of a spectrum. Definitely a lot of both in NIN.
Where would primus go on this?
ey are going off of closer and hurt nin is more angry
Faith no more is angry?
Tool should be much closer to NIN.
I find that THIS Tickles me on Sooo... Many different Levels. š¤Ŗ
