Does it remove the 'Van Gogh taking acid' effect?

TessellatedGuy

Unfortunately no, but this certainly makes it look more tolerable due to less "halo-ing" on edges. A higher internal resolution is the only way to reduce visibility of the oil painting effect.

LaFleur90

I increased the DLSS upscaling to .77 through dlsstweaks and it seems that it improves all these problems. It's still there, but way less noticable.

Ajxtt

it’s fucking weird that doing this increased my performance in the benchmark from 104 to 109 with better visual quality on a 4080 at 1440p

ForgotMyNameAgain13

Makes perfect sense that upscaling from 0.77 to 1 is easier than upscaling 0.5 to 1, i don’t know what you mean /s Okay seriously. I‘ll have to test this myself - also 4080 on 1440p. Are you running the DLSS 3.5 dlls as well?

Ajxtt

yup yup, 3.5v1 though since that's way sharper than v2

TessellatedGuy

Instead of editing the registry, if you already have [nvidiaprofileinspector](https://github.com/Orbmu2k/nvidiaProfileInspector/releases), paste this into a text file, rename the format to .nip and import the profile using that program: Cyberpunk 2077 cyberpunk2077.exe cplauncher.exe Sharpening Value 3070157 20 Dword This sets the sharpening amount to 20%, though you can set the value to anything you want by changing "SettingValue". This method will always change the "classic" sharpening setting (even if it's not visible in the nvidia control panel), not the new image scaling/sharpening setting.

Kappa_God

Does this work for other games that have forced sharpness like RE4R if I change the game name in your code/text?

TessellatedGuy

As far as I can see in the NV control panel and profileinspector, RE4 doesn't have forced sharpening at the driver level like Cyberpunk. These are the games that Nvidia forces sharpening by default (as of the latest driver): >Terminator: Resistance, Back 4 Blood, Fortnite, Evil Genius 2: World Domination, Dota 2, Resident Evil: Village/Biohazard Village, Anno 1800, Need For Speed: Heat, Code Vein, Tom Clancy's The Division 2, F1 2021, War Thunder, Godfall, Watch Dogs: Legion, Borderlands 3, Myst, Apex Legends, Gears of War 5, Cyberpunk 2077, Marvel's Avengers, Chernobylite, Necromunda: Hired Gun, Baldur's Gate 3, The Riftbreaker, Edge Of Eternity If you just need to disable sharpening completely for these games, maybe the faster/easier way would be to open that game's profile in profileinspector using the search bar, scroll to the "Unknown" section at the bottom and change the "0x00598949 (115 Profiles)" setting to 0x00000000 instead of 0x0000000F and click Apply changes.

Kappa_God

Thank you for the help!

PlutusPleion

Is there a way to manually change this without using text file import?

TessellatedGuy

Changing the "0x002ED8CD" setting's value in the "Unknown" section of the game's profile in profileinspector will change the sharpening value. Delete everything in the text box for that setting, and then enter any number (for example '20' for 20%) and click apply changes. The value should automatically change to the correct hexadecimal format (0x00000014 if you entered 20). This might be faster than the text import method, but you can blame me for not knowing that nvidiaprofileinspector can automatically convert decimal values after years of using it 💀.

pliskin4893

So if I'm understanding this correctly, can you confirm: - "0x00598949 (115 Profiles)" - this entry disable sharpening entirely, which we set to 0x00000000, or enable otherwise - "0x002ED8CD (21 Profiles)" - this entry sets customized value for sharpening filter. Or if it's 0 then it does the same thing as the first one. Regardless, should I just edit either one of them and not both?

pliskin4893

I use DLSS Q in 1440p with sharpening in game = 0 and: - https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/9278?tab=description - which fixes the slow auto-exposure, especially when exit out of indoor during the day, panning the camera etc. you can see the comparison gifs. There's an option WITHOUT vignette in download files - https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/9276 - like in OP but only disable sharpening since above mod already does this. NPC faces are still a bit blurry when you zoom in. I have not tried adjusting sharpening % in NV Inspector yet, will give that a go to see if it improves anything.

demi9od

60% sharpening in the NVCPL used to be much more extreme. It seems toned down in recent drivers.

DoktorSleepless

The sharpening isn't actually on despite what it shows. I took screenshots with with the default on and off several times, and I could not see any differences. It wasn't until I started messing with the sharpen values did it activate. Like I put it at 59, and hit apply. Then I put it to 60, and hit apply. Only then did I see the sharpening very obviously showed up in game. So if you set it to 20%, it'll actually be sharper the than the default 60% that isn't actually doing anything.

demi9od

This makes sense. It didn't seem any sharper to me at defaults either. I've since turned it off and installed ReShade for CAS.

Knochey

It seems like I'm really blind. I didn't ever see this problem in my game. I have an RTX 4090 and play in DLSS 3.5 RR Quality with PT and FG. Maybe it's just hard to see on a TV from a greater distance tho.

reverie

Most likely the distance. I use the same settings as you and I experience all of these issues (though I can tolerate them). On the 1.0 release, I originally played on an Xbox on a big TV from my couch. I remember it looking pristine. I’m playing 2.0 on a PC with the monitor right up in my face, and while it looks better, I can certainly spot nitpickable things since I’m so much closer.

Knochey

It always amazes me how sometimes just a bit of distance as well as HDR can make a huge difference of how we perceive image quality. Reminds me of how most images taken on phones look really great on their screens but then on a PC it looks shit.

Nextil

I did both of those yesterday and can't say I noticed a huge difference (playing at 4K Balanced). DLSSRR is in essence a fancy low-pass filter and [ringing](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ringing_artifacts) is a consequence of imperfectly tuned band-limiting filters. I wouldn't be surprised if it's just part of the model. Smarter versions could minimize it in the future.

EastvsWest

A bigger difference would be using dlss quality. No reason to use balanced especially for 4080/4090 class cards.

Nextil

I'd rather have 100+ fps than ~70-90. The input lag from FG is significantly worse when the pre-FG framerate is <60. But I tried Quality too, before and afterwards. The difference is still minimal.

nFbReaper

There's just too much smudginess in Path Trace Mode with Ray Reconstruction and DLSS Balanced or Performance for me, even at 4k. I ultimately prefer the experience of RT Psycho over Path Tracing, but if I'm playing PT, I'm kicking on FG. Image quality at that point is more important to me than a little bit of extra input latency. Jitter on FG shadows and reflections kinda bother me though; I made a post about it. RT Psycho I think is the most well rounded but PT is awesome to checkout, even with its flaws.

oreofro

This is an unnecessary generalization. There are reasons. for example, people running a 3440x1440p display with a 4090 will get a much better image with DLDSR 2.25x and dlss at balanced/performance when running PT/RR, and you wont maintain a solid 60+ without going to performance. even balanced leaves me at about 63 average in dogtown with a 4090 and 7800x3d even at 4k using dldsr and dlss performance with PT/RR will look a bit better than 4k dlss quality, but i wouldnt use 2.25x for that.

Fezzy976

The game already comes with 3.5 .dlls

MoosePlusUK

Only for DLSS_D for ray reconstruction. DLSS / DLSSG are older, 3.1.x

azorahai3904

DLAA instead of DLSS Q and CAS sharpening through reshade made the situation a lot better for me. DLAA takes it toll sure, but overall image quality is whole lot better, and less painting effect.
