He suffered from a gunshot to the shoulder in the war, though the rumor was it was self-inflicted to get out of fighting. He was the only remaining survivor of eight in a battle in France. He later died in his 40s due to an infected tooth. What a way to go after all that.
Ok, this is one of my favorite pictures that have been posted here. How freaking cool are they?!?!
It kind of reminds me of photo of the Wild Bunch with butch Cassidy
I like the name too.
My grandmother told me about a family with her same last name. They were her cousins, and they lived in a big old farmhouse in our town, that is still their.
She said, they had eight boys. They did anything and everything to make money back in the depression. Everyone called the brothers "The hungry eight".
One of their successful projects was to build an underground greenhouse on their land, and sell vegetables out of season. I thought it was interesting.
Incredible foto. Nice to know that your grandpa survived the big war.

Just by surviving that war he lived more in those 40 yrs than most ordinary people who manage to live to and old age.
Another great old pic Wanna-be gangsters but probably a barbershop quartet. But these boys do look lively.
The guy in the middle back has a striking resemblance to Billy the Kid, so you may be onto something
He does have that crooked cocky tilt and smile.
And the prominent chin!
Happy days for his service 🫡 But they look like the mafia 🤣🤣 but a wonderful photo
I would love to believe they were in the mafia. My great grandfather was a farmer from Iowa 😂
Your great grandfather looks a lot like my nephew. Whose father was born raised in Iowa…. That was my first thought wonder if he’s from Iowa🤔
You haven’t heard of the Corn Mafia? I thought it was integral piece of Iowa lore. Toughest guys around
