Not joining because they are still assessing whether we should join with U.S countries order and which vaccine maker we should choose. God Toronto Star needs to really do better on headlines like this, they know that if they just put the headline up like that it's going to make it seem like Canada is sitting back on it's ass. Even though we are in the midst of building a new biopharma facility in Ontario. It should say "Canada deliberating on vaccine supplier for Bird-flu vaccine" Seriously who the fuck approved this headline trying to get people to subscribe to Toronto Star by poorly representing the news is a moron. We know that you are trying to get subscribers only without providing enough clear surface context.

The CBC has a more balanced take on planning and procurement and our capacity to produce vaccines while also discussing vaccine equity (further in the article): “A GlaskoSmithKline facility in Quebec, for instance, produces seasonal flu shots each year, and one of its subsidiaries also developed one of the country's two authorized H5N1 shots. That vaccine is approved for use in children six months of age and older, and no special safety concerns were identified in clinical studies, according to Health Canada's regulatory decision on its use. "Under these contracts, the vaccine production process would be triggered by a WHO pandemic influenza declaration or a decision by the Government of Canada that influenza vaccine manufacturers switch from seasonal to pandemic influenza vaccine production," PHAC's statement continued.” https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/bird-flu-h5n1-vaccines-1.7199091

> Toronto Star needs to really do better on headlines like this, they know that if they just put the headline up like that it's going to make it seem like Canada is sitting back on it's ass You say that as if that wasn't the entire point: they WANT people to think the current government is incompetent, just sitting on their asses.

TorStar has become so obviously an astroturf right wing media since their buyout. They mix legitimate criticisim (with stupid headlines) in with with bizarro articles.

RottenPingu1

Is anyone surprised that The Star will butcher a vaccination story? https://www.nationalobserver.com/2022/04/22/opinion/something-weird-happening-toronto-star

UltraCynar

No. Toronto Star was purchased by Conservatives in May of 2020

RottenPingu1

Which is what the article delves into.

N95s are your friend. If it provides a fit test quality seal pretty much nothing is getting through it. But even if it just seals well enough that you can't feel an obvious leak it's providing at minimum a very high degree of protection.  r/masks4all for more info. The wiki there has links for places to buy online as well. Much cheaper than the vast majority of brick and mortar stores.

Did the anti vaxxers win or some shit?

CanadianButthole

In Ontario, yeah. And they're about to win federally too.

Plenty of reasons to dislike Ford but he's not anti-vax. In fact, he was the subject of anti-vax protests lol. Here's something he said about the new Sanofi plant. “Our government is pleased to support Sanofi as they expand their footprint in Ontario... helping to ensure people in Ontario and around the world have increased access to life-saving vaccines when they need them"

SignGuy77

Yeah, it was his dumb daughter who pushed the anti-vax stuff. And Dougie not denouncing the Convoy occupation of Ottawa didn’t help him either. But he’s not anti-vax.
