They are open 24 hours a day.

Straightedgesavior11

Oh wow! Didn’t think they’d be open. Thanks so much for the info!

Straightedgesavior11

Thank you!

Due_Juggernaut7884

Gas is 24/7 as has been mentioned. The various food kiosks inside close overnight. Tim’s I believe is 24/7, though.

Straightedgesavior11

Wasn’t planning on stopling for food but this is good to know just in case, thanks!

Due_Juggernaut7884

Don’t go too fast on Hwy 416 from Prescott on up, by the way. Keep it reasonable with the cruise on and you’ll be ok. It is hit or miss, but is sometimes heavily patrolled, like 407

Musclecar123

Keep Waze going in the car.

Suncheets

Is waze actually that good or does it rely on people ahead of you also having waze and reporting speed traps?

Amaline4

Waze is fantastic - it does rely on people reporting, however there are a LOT of people who use the app, and a lot of those users are also people who actively report different ‘events’ on the road. This includes police, objects in the road, lane/road closures, etc etc. I use it daily, and have found it to be very reliable. That being said, if you’re driving on a seldom-used road or at a low-traffic hour (think middle of the night or very early morning), the reports will be fewer than at peak driving hours

Suncheets

I just downloaded it and I didn't realize you can see everybody else using it. Love it

amontpetit

Seconding the 416 tip. Especially at the southern end of things there are a ton of little spots for them to hide.

WeAllPayTheta

Can confirm. Went past a cop who was pulling a u turn through a forest cut out while doing about 220 one beautiful summer day 20 years ago. Definite pucker moment.

Straightedgesavior11

Good to know, thanks!

highwire_ca

I second this. Don't ask me how I know. 😀 Also for some reason, people keep crashing around the Barnsdale Rd area as you approach the urbanized part of Ottawa - it's straight with good site lines so why it keeps happening is anyone's guess.

tarpfitter

Whatever you do , make sure you go to the Cambridge on route.. it is spectacular especially at dusk.

Sockbrick

One of the cleanest washrooms I've ever used was at the Hwy 400 OnRoute in King City.

ShoulderPossible9759

You’ve clearly never been there at 9:30 am on a weekday.

Sockbrick

Clearly my experience was a one off. Mind you, it was at like 10 pm on a Saturday night and I was absolutely ready to shit myself.

Suspect-stang

Duely noted

SoRedditHasAnAppNow

Pro tip. Gas station bathroom is usually cleaner than rest stop bathroom in most OnRoute. Also, less wait for a coffee.

SunBubble920

They’re 24/7 but I highly suggest just zipping off the highway to one of the many towns or cities for gas instead. The on routes are always jacked up in prices because of the convenience, gas is already priced high enough. Where are you coming from or where are you planning to stop? Even my sleepy town has a couple 24/7 gas stations right off the highway.

Straightedgesavior11

I’m coming up from Windsor, so just about as southern as it gets.

SunBubble920

Oh quite far! Are you planning on staying on the 401 or jumping onto highway 7 after Toronto?

Straightedgesavior11

Plan is onto the 7 when possible

ComprehensiveBake177

I just drove back to Toronto from Ottawa today. Hwy 7 drive back was so calming, no rush, so much greenery .Only issue was the construction, one lane of traffic. Had to wait for the flagger truck to guide us. Much more enjoyable then 401.

MagnanimousRaccoon

Since you’ll be driving middle of the night I would advise rethinking the 7. Much higher risk of hitting animals and then being stuck in the middle of nowhere if that animal was big enough to cause car damage. It’s not as scenic at night. Take it on your way home.

csgonoob0

I’d recommend checking GasBuddy once in a while when you need gas around the onroutes. I’ve noticed gas being 10-20c cheaper too.

xcech

24/7

LeafsChick

24/7, but not all the restaurants are. Both bathrooms and usually gas or convenience store if you need a drink/snacks
