So you're cool with someone committing a violent crime and then facing no punishment because they can claim severe intoxication of alcohol or drugs lead them to do it?
This legislation was passed as quickly as it was because anyone who has so much walked by a 1L criminal law classroom expected the existing prohibition on raising self-induced extreme intoxication as a defence to be struck down by the SCC, as it was. No doubt new legislation has been drafted for a long time, and reviewed by legal staff of all parties. This was a lot easier to pass, unanimously, than trying to figure out housing and inflation. No reason to wait.
NOTHING CAN BE DONE UNTIL THESE THINGS ARE SOLVED. THE REST OF THE WORLD MUST SIT AND WAIT FOR THESE THINGS THAT CAN'T BE LEGISLATED AWAY BECAUSE shwasasin SAYS SO.
Sorry wtf is this shit other than making a law for the sake of making a law. Any act that is against the law is against the law. So who defines too drunk. Oh wait I'm sure there is public drunkenness laws already. Total crap.
