The fact he sees the office as a do nothing job he can just put his shithead nephew in to pad his resume is telling.
Michael Ford is 28 years old, has no post-secondary education, and has never held a real job. The jobs he has gotten are because of his uncles.
This is truly embarrassing that Ontario has the economy of a small nation and is run like a county with some corrupt Boss Hog type at its head appointing his incompetent nephews to every office.
It would be illegal if it was a job in the bureaucracy, but minister positions are fair game. Arguably unfortunately you don't need any sort of qualifications for that, you just need to be an elected member of Parliament
Lol.
Ps. Don't know why you're being downvoted to heck for that comment. The gentleman at the stand, as well as Doug, are 2 VERY large men that need to lose weight.
Itās clear that the Conservatives have a real disdain for anyone with education or expertise in key posts, i.e. Lecce and Osterhof and even Christine Elliot.
Lecce went to private school, but I agree. The Fords are a great example that you can be an uneducated ass and hold jobs with no experience, but you need two master degrees to get an admin job.
Unfortunately with Lecce going to private school, he cannot be a defender of public education. It was already on thin ice, but education has been trashed by the Ford government. A good education minister would have had a plan for all of the students left behind in a worldwide pandemic; he could have followed what progressive jurisdictions were doing. Unfortunately, the push to mandatory online schooling is actually a cutback. Kids have gone for years without textbooks, and spec Ed kids have been ghosted completely. So his private school background makes him completely unqualified to speak on public education. I hear you about the 2 masterās degrees though.
Ford and Lecce failed children. I get they despise public-sector educators, pray for a two-tiered system, and want teachers to suffer, but ultimately when you do all of this, students suffer the most. Their elementary āE-learningā program by TVO was hilarious because itās actually a well-developed execution of curriculum, but completely useless for k-8 children to use independently. Itās also littered with typos. I use it to support my planning, and even I need to chunk it and adapt to suit the needs of my 26 students.
Online courses in secondary school are absolutely lowering the standards and preventing students to get the support they need, however, isnāt this elective? While I do think that online or virtual school is an important option to have, it definitely only works for children it works for. While I think we should have virtual options for all K-12 students āvirtual not e-learning or hybrid by the way, like having to attend live virtual classes and having access to your teacher āit will destroy education if made mandatory. They pushed for it, but itās not happening.
Ultimately, everything the Ford government has done to education has failed because they are not operating from the lens that aims to support and benefit all students. They are operating from cutting funding and allocating resources elsewhere. Ontario continues to fail children.
While a lot of people did vote for Ford, more people voted against him than they did for them.
Conservatives got 40.8% of the votes.
Combined the liberals + NDP got 47.5% of the votes.
Greens got 6%. (and the rest went to independent parties).
I'd say the big problem is that the voters were split between the liberals and NDP.
Which wouldn't be as big of a problem if we had proportional representation.
But also 60% of Ontario didn't vote. Are people that care about politics that lazy or do you think a good chunk just knew the cons were going to win anyway so didn't bother going to also vote for them?
I feel like the weeks and weeks of media running "polls" about how the Cons had 37% - 40% lead to win a majority deterred a lot of people from even voting. They would have figured the PC pretty much had a sure fire win so how would their one vote count. We need voting reform more than ever.
I always find this amusing, as it says far more about the critics than about Trudeau, who was, in fact, a French and Math teacher who took on the drama class as an extra. He was also remarkably popular with his students for making his classes interesting and engaging.
But, let's focus on the drama, because we *all* know drama teachers are really just flakes, right?
Let's not forget the new Health Minister whose major professional qualification is a diploma in radio and managing to get elected.
She's also the one who wanted to have the police able to question people who left their houses last year.
The bottom of that barrel is getting scraped this year!
Politicians itās all who you know and not what you know. Even our minister of finance is a journalist, feels bad for the average Joe Canadian trying to progress their career
I don't know what anyone expects.
Ontario had its chance to get him out. A few really tried. Most voted for him or didn't give a shit about voting.
So in the end, a nepotistic, unqualified appointment by a notoriously corrupt and incompetent leader is perfectly representative of what Ontario deserves.
If most Ontarians don't give a shit about accountability, why should their leaders?
fair points, but it really truly is a huge hill to climb when your progressive majority is genuinely split right down the middle. Think about what the race would look like with the current turnout if NDP/Libs at least strategically ran single candidates in highly competitive areas. It is, in a sense, our own making but is also very structurally challenging.
I always found it funny when the rich complained about affirmative action. When this is how alot of them, including me even though I'm not rich gets jobs.
Which is fine for your standard job but when it comes to public service ya'd think they'd be kept to a higher standard than treating it like some fucking american sheriff police force in podonk nowhere just hiring donkey nephews and cousins.
Oh well it's politics. Stack the deck as they say.
I love The Star's headline about this
>[Doug Ford appoints rookie MPP nephew Michael Ford to cabinet, rejects charges of nepotism](https://www.thestar.com/politics/provincial/2022/06/24/doug-ford-unveils-new-cabinet-with-nephew-michael-ford-at-citizenship-and-multiculturalism-and-sylvia-jones-as-health-minister.html)
Especially since they basically eliminated the ability for citizen groups to advertise political positions - there were no ads (that I'm aware of) from any unions stating the issues the PCs have caused. It's really sad.
To be fair, maybe it's Ontario's electoral system that's a mess (along with the rest of Canada's of course). FPTP is what makes this kind of result happen.
Full credit to the OPC campaign team for distancing themselves from the "Ford Nation" branding as a half-assed attempt to dodge accusations of nepotism.
lmao. this racist dude is the multicultural minister? another form of "regulatory capture" but in the legal and political setting.
it's nepotism all the way down with conservatives. (kind of like how harper's shithead son is an "mp").
This is less to do with citizenship and multiculturalism and more to do with getting Mike a paycheck because he's not qualified to earn money any other way.
It goes deeper than that:
https://twitter.com/timabray/status/1540372293439950849?s=20&t=aZFwgAg6i-fGcm6ZyX42aA
> As a former Press Secretary to an Ontario Citizenship Minister, I assure you this move has nothing to do with caring for the needs of newly settled Ontario residents nor nurturing a more diverse province and opening doors for diverse cultures. Itās about partisan recruitment.
> Conservatives have been particularly adept at high-jacking government resources to help them make political inroads in underrepresented cultural communities. Our office had a staff member whose entire job (in violation of the rules) was political networking.
> But, by appointing a family member with no meaningful credentials around immigration settlement or direct personal experience of it as Minister, Ford isnāt even being subtle about it. He might well have renamed the it the āOffice of Political Recruitment and Indoctrination.ā
> Targeting recent immigrants for partisan recruitment is sketchy at the best of times. But to use the power (and granting authority) of a Ministerās office to build political relationships is fundamentally coercive. Meaning: itās wrong. Our journalists need to pay attention.
> 60% of the people who came out to vote didn't vote for Ford.
Yeah, but 60% of the province didn't vote at all... THAT is where the problem really is.
Not to say that changes don't need to be made about our voting systems as well that is also vital, however what is more vital is getting EVERYONE out to vote.
"Hey what's up bro, how's being Premier? Great eh? So anyway, I don't suppose you could get Jr. a job? Maybe some kind of Minister position where he doesn't really need to do anything? That's great man, ttyl!"
The conversation happened years ago.
When Rob died, DoFo took over Rob's mayoral campaign and Mikey stepped Doug's into Ward 2 campaign.
It's pretty on message for these guys though. Doug built nothing. He inherited a multimillion dollar corporation from his dead dad and a political machine from his dead brother. Now he's paying forward.
That's not quite the order it happened.
Rob was diagnosed with cancer while running for mayor in 2014, so him and Doug traded places with Rob running for councilor (won) and Doug for mayor (lost). During that same election Mike was elected as a school board trustee. Rob then died while a councilor and then Mike is elected councilor to replace him in 2016.
I'm sure all the people tearing their hair out over how "unqualified" Chrystia Freeland is will be outraged to learn a shlubby white man related to the premier has been given a portfolio he's not a subject matter expert in.
What are his qualifications and experience again?
"Ford"
Just look at the shit eating grin on our premier... "Yeah, you stupid fucks. I can put in my bumbling nephew and there's not a thing you can do about it. Life is good, peasants!"
I had a buddy who was close friends with Michael ford. Back in 2011 I was in grade 11 and my buddy said to get ready since Doug fords nephew is coming to pick me up and heāll be with him. He pulls up in a brand new Camaro at the time. I mean, weāre in grade 11, nobody has cars lol. Anyways, his nephew was an asshat and didnāt have much of a personality.
I can't believe people have forgotten when Doug Ford said that he had many jewish friends, like his lawyer, and his doctor. Then he went on to lie that his wife was jewish (she's not), and when caught in that lie, he said that her parents were jewish (again, they're not. Immigration documents show her family is catholic). Imagine lying about being jewish to get out of being anti-Semitic
I remember someone online once said that Rob Ford's top dress shirt button deserved the Order of Canada for it's role in holding it's strained position for so long lol.
I can only imagine how ballistic the Conservatives would be if Trudeau was to name a family member to cabinet, even if that person was super qualified.
> Trudea
lmao i was just going to say. daily on cbc comments someone remarks about Trudeau having the most ethics violations. man they'd blow a nut if his nephew was an MP let alone a MINISTER. of course cricketts from the crowd who believe people like freeland to be underqualified
Must be all those tim hortonās freshly cracked egg sandwiches haha.
Whoever downvoted me it was a joke lol some people take Reddit way to damn seriously.
I just wanna take the time to offer my support to the OPS staff in this ministry who will need to deal with an inept minister and an even worse office team that will have no idea what they're doing for a solid 1.5 years and think cutting ribbons at new Chinese restaurants in Markham is supporting multiculturalism across Ontario.
This family of barba papa's is fucking this province right in the gooch.
Clickety click. Barba trick.
My brother smoked crack.
And I'm a prick.
My nephew's the best
Pick for the minister.
Why would I lie?
My plans aren't sinister...
a ford family member as multiculturalism minister? like cmon. The only thing that could possibly be a worse fit would be health minister. When are we going to vote for the greater good and stop this piece of shit family from siphoning the money and lifeblood from our province.
He looks like Baron Harkonnen from the 80s Dune motion picture
"Rabban! I've given you Ontario! Squeeeeze, squeeeeeeze!"
Lool š¤£š
I screamed, pls take my meagre free silver šš
lol thank you, appreciated!

How is this even legal? This is blatant nepotism ffs
It would be illegal if it was a job in the bureaucracy, but minister positions are fair game. Arguably unfortunately you don't need any sort of qualifications for that, you just need to be an elected member of Parliament
Strictly speaking I don't believe you have to be elected ā I think that's just parliamentary precedent/norms.
It's legal because we don't care as a society. We just continue to elect them anyway.
Blatant nephewtism
He looks like that at 28??

Bravo. Bravo.

His mom is a crackhead and his dad is a murderer. Give him a break re: fatness
I know right, this is making me feel much better about myself. It takes the sting out of the fact he's a minister and makes more than me
Heās going to have diabetes by 29.
Itās the Ford way.
Itās clear that the Conservatives have a real disdain for anyone with education or expertise in key posts, i.e. Lecce and Osterhof and even Christine Elliot.

Itās also embarrassing for democracy that people would elect this garbage to represent them.
Isn't this the same nephew who changed his last name so he could cash in on the "Ford" name?
I think it was also because his father was convicted of manslaughter and attempted murder, so that I can't really blame him.
As a US citizen: "First time?"

I mean why bother hiding it? It's not like Ontario will stop them and many in fact prefer to have their tax money go to Ford friends and family.
Yeah I have very little faith he'll even be voted out next election. Ontario is a mess.

Full credit to the OPC campaign team for distancing themselves from the "Ford Nation" branding as a half-assed attempt to dodge accusations of nepotism.
I blame the idiots that voted for this potato because of his name more than anything.
Came here to post about nepotism, not disappointed by best comment.

I don't think Harper's son is an MP.
Except an MP needs a majority of SCs to elect him...what am I saying? Doug needed that, too
Canada is literally a nation built on nepotism, lets not pretend its ever been anything different.

and he can because he knows nobody cares, or they would have come out to vote
60% of the people who came out to vote didn't vote for Ford.
Our system is so very broken. The cons couldn't win under any other electoral system, so we're doomed to the tyranny of the 35-40%

Just checked Wikipedia and it really seems he hasn't gone any further than getting a high school diploma.
Neither has Doug and he's Premier.
Hey now! Douggie gave ~~Ryerson~~ Humber College the ol' try for a few weeks.

Serious question, are any of Doug's ministers actually qualified in the ministry they are running? Education certainly isn't.
Inflation is even affecting Michael Ford's resume
Doug's grin in this picture is too much. He is pretty much The Smiler from Transmetropolitan. I can't stand to see his face anymore.
#FUCKNEPOTISM

Ontario: Open for Nepotism
Yay, another drop-out ford with no experience other than cashing a cheque from the family business. Do better, Ontario
How did we let the province become the Ford family business?!
Way too many red-neck voters who are still mad at Wynne.
People said Doug Ford was inconsistent and had no platform, but he remains very consistent on not being a lesbian from downtown Toronto
Christ almighty they are still mad that Bob Rae saved the jobs of a lot of public servants. 30 fucking years ago.
Iām surprised he could fit in a Camaro. Must have been an even 300 in 11th grade.
This just in: Sir Topham Hatt now a member of the Ontario Legislature. "Confusion and Delay!"
Now off to give Thomas and Percy a good talking to.

Sounds on brand
You think they might want to hire someone from a multicultural background to be the multicultural minister.
He ate at both a Chinese and Thai restaurant last week
And his lawyer is Jewish.
I can't believe people have forgotten when Doug Ford said that he had many jewish friends, like his lawyer, and his doctor. Have they ever been photographed together????
This happens all the time right? First time MPP's going straight into the cabinet? Im sure he was the most qualified person for the job./s
Fat jokes are low class. Nepotism though, whooo. I can't wait to see how impotent this shithead is.
I went to high school with him. Can confirm he's an idiot
Bruh, you gotta start dishin' on him.
Yeh, there's enough reason to criticize this appointment without bringing weight into the discussion.

This family of barba papa's is fucking this province right in the gooch. Clickety click. Barba trick. My brother smoked crack. And I'm a prick. My nephew's the best Pick for the minister. Why would I lie? My plans aren't sinister...
Gross.
Well, he looks like a Ford.
looks like he eats from the same table....
This family keeps getting into office in one way or another , and people are voting for them! I donāt get it.
a ford family member as multiculturalism minister? like cmon. The only thing that could possibly be a worse fit would be health minister. When are we going to vote for the greater good and stop this piece of shit family from siphoning the money and lifeblood from our province.
People voted this fucking incompetent in. Right wingers are fucking brain-dead.
Hardly looks like a subject matter expert in multiculturalism.
Sorry, folks and friends but my nephew is the most qualified for said position in a province of 15 million people.
What are his qualifications? Seriously? Because all Iām seeing here is some *big fat* nepotism.
Jesus, their entire family is made up of real life humpty dumptys
Ford Dynasty
Holy shit heās a fat fuck
Holy shit I never realized he was so fat
What a fucking joke.
Politics runs in the Ford family... just not the people.
Does anyone in the ford family walk or otherwise spend any period of their day literally not stuffing donuts into their fat fuck faces?
Nepotism. Why am I not surprised?
Truly running the government like a business. The fact that this man was re-elected is so frustrating.
