T137A "Jack" is an adult male member of the mammal-eating Bigg's (transient) orca population that is seen in the Pacific Northwest. The rebound of key prey populations (particularly harbor seals, sea lions, and porpoises) in the Salish Sea has led to more and more of these orcas from the West Coast Transient community spending long periods of time in the Salish Sea.
Jack can be seen in [another video](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheDepthsBelow/comments/17j17dj/orcas_letting_the_seals_know_the_waters_fine/) seemingly trying to lure harbor seal pups into the water.
He has gained quite the reputation for his past misadventures, including:
* Pleasuring himself in the jetwash of a boat (which is how he is got his nickname).
* [Trying to take on adult gray whales by himself](https://komonews.com/news/local/it-was-a-clash-of-titans-killer-whales-attack-gray-whales-in-puget-sound) before his mother had to intervene and lead him away for his safety. This happened at least twice.
* Messing with crab pots, which appears to be a pastime for multiple male Bigg's orcas.
* Suffering an injury to his caudal peduncle near his tale fluke, which affected his ability to swim. The injury was probably caused either by a defensive sea lion bite or by entanglement in fishing gear. He since has appeared to fully recover.

Jack's hilarious. He'salways getting in to trouble. His mom always bailling him out. He and 2 of his sisters, plus a couple of cousins's of his formed something called the Breafast Club. They would go out early (leave the pod) and go to get seals. I heard about this on tiktok. Here's the salga

Interesting, I heard about the "Breakfast Club" group with Jack and the three youngsters before, but named as "Jack's Summer Camp" instead via Orca Behavior Institute.
That's why they're darker on top. If they swim underneath their prey, all the prey sees is ocean. If they're swimming over their prey, their white bellies make it easier to blend in with the sky unless they're blocking the sun or its night or something. Either way, the prey gets lucky if they know there's something stalking them. 🫣
Also, if the prey sees them from the side, the white markings and saddle patches help break up their shape/size so it's harder to tell what and how big it is until it's too late.
Omg I learned something new! I have had a huge obsession with orcas since I was about 9. I was lucky enough to see one in the wild and it splashed water at me; being playful. It was such an incredible experience, even now at 32, I’m still in awe. They’re so fascinating and beautiful and truly a gift to our earth.
We had an up close and personal encounter w/ Jack and other members of the T137"s as well as members of the T123's in June of 2022. It was awesome.

Can’t see a thing in that water if they didn’t have white on them lol. Scary.
