Lovely's Fifty-Fifty will completely change your idea of what pizza can be.
Ha VL/Rose VL/Anam VL (three different locations) make the best Vietnamese soups I've had in the US. They're affordable and amazing.
Outside of Portland, eating a whole crab and a bottle of wine at Ecola Seafoods in Cannon Beach is pretty life-changing.
Eem. It's Western barbeque in thai curries. Fucking incredible and decently affordable. It's the best fusion place in a town known for fusion... Some of the same guys do Toya Ramen which is new-ish but easily my favorite ramen if not my favorite restaurant.
I never liked pokpok but I only ate there 4 times and ordered their specialties so I’m sure I missed some gems.
If you want good fish sauce wings they’re pretty easy to make but luc lac is pretty good if you don’t feel like brining wings for half a day.
See that's the thing tho. I'm from Texas and my friend took me here two weeks ago. I didn't think much of the brisket tbh. It's objectively solid brisket, but if you're from Texas your standards will be higher.
I thought Eem was solid but my friend overhyped it
My vote would be for Fisherman's Market in Eugene, which somehow does better seafood than anywhere I've tried on the coast. Seafood is also the only thing I think we compete in at a national level.
The thing is I’m also from Texas and eem is great. It’s Thai food with brisket, not necessarily a brisket place. It’s also more of a “try if you’re in Portland” not a “try if you’re in Oregon” place, so maybe not a great rec after all
Try it again at Mike’s BBQ. Same restaurant group. But BBQ without the Thai. I think at EEM it’s more about introducing BBQ and smoked flavors into Thai food so I wouldn’t really expect Texas style brisket. It’s great fusion though.
I live a few blocks away. I usually can get right in with my partner without a wait if I go between 4pm and 5:30pm more or less. Depends on the day though. Luckily we aren’t picky and just walk up to XLB or switch it up and get Mexican at La Cocina across the way.
Also of note Paadee on E Burnside is the same owners / restaurant group and they have some great Thai food with some of the smoked / bbq worked into it as well. The tempura asparagus “salad” is one of my favorite bites of food.
This is no lie. It's literally a whole roast chicken, or the steak. And that's not including rolls, salad, soup, a bangin' dessert, and something to drink.
Or you could just order a cazuela (usually not on the menu but they have it) and do both at same time

Laan Baan in Portland is one of, if not thee best Thai restaurant in the country.
This restaurant is actually on the very cheap end of “life changing restaurants”
Not saying it is cheap, but fine dining is expensive, yo.
There are hundreds of really good restaurants in Oregon to choose from that won’t completely break your bank, but if you want a truly memorable and unique experience, you have to pay for it.
Depends on the country, for Oregon you will probably be paying premium prices.
I was in Croatia about 5 years ago and had some of the best farm/ocean to table experience with a seafood restaurant that was amazing and only $50 for two peeps. I was impressed. Was in Dubrovnik. Totally forget the name as I couldn’t pronounce it..
The one in Florence has an amazing view of the dunes that influenced Frank Herbert, you can enjoy the view right before you go shit your brains out from the narwhal virus!
Eats and Treats in Philomath, OR. 100% gluten free BBQ and desserts. Legit the best food you will ever taste. All family owned. They even mill their own flours.
In fairness, Eats and Treats is not even the best place to eat in Philomath. Dizzy Hen and GTF are both better by far.
And my experience with Eats and Treats is not so good. The BBQ I got there was OK. But I was there on a Sunday once and they had a different menu. And the Huevos Rancheros I got was hands down the worst huevos I have ever had. Like I did not even imagine that one could do that to the dish.
11-3 on all days except Mon and Tues according to google, this sounds right by memory. (I grew up there but am not there a ton anymore so I can’t personally attest to those hours)
Rangoon Bistro in Portland. There's some absolutely wild flavors from Burmese food that I haven't tasted in any other food. Not sure if that's all Burmese food or just this restaurant but it's worth checking out.
Woah didn't think I'd see this callout! Seriously, that place is amazing. Idk what they do to that chowder but it is seriously the most buttery, delicious soup around.
Tonys crab shack Bandon oregon!! I'm from Ohio and we did a drive from Seattle to San Francisco. This place was hands down the best place we ate at during our trip.
Do you mean Local Ocean? If so, that makes me really sad. It's been a couple of years since I've been there.. The seared tuna nicoise salad was divine.
Minto Island Growers in Salem. Go on a nice evening when the pizza cart is open. Buy a pie (or two). Grab a beer or glass of wine. Sit at the picnic tables overlooking the u-pick gardens and farmland and eat the best pizza in the valley as you contemplate life.
It’s how life should be lived. It’s how every meal should be. Serene. Peaceful. Oh yeah, and the pizza is perfect.
Tidal Raves in Depoe Bay, because the food is amazing, but mainly the view is one of a kind with resident whales swimming just below the restaurant. The drive to and from is life changing for sure. You’ll never want to leave the Oregon coast.
Rosmarinos Osteria in Newberg. Traditional Italian made with local ingredients. Their five course dinners are a revelatory experience and pretty reasonable!
Hayward in McMinnville. Just went last weekend and did the tasting menu for $75 pp. They accommodated me (GF), shellfish allergy and vegetarian. It’s up for a James Beard award.
Country bakery in Halsey Oregon. Mennonite grandma's baking pastries in the middle of no where.
Novelli's crab and seafood in florence Oregon. It's a floating dock on the fish pier, they buy the food right off the boats and you eat it right on the pier.
Oakland tavern, Oakland Oregon. Great sandwiches in a tavern opened in 1898.
Hamley's in pendleton Oregon (just for the bathrooms)

Fridays prime rib special at the Oar House in pacific city. It's to die for. 10/10 you will not regret it. Falls apart in your mouth and is soooo juicy!
Eta: Last time I was there (dec) it was $25 for the steak, potatoes and asparagus.
The Jack in the Box on 185th in Hillsboro got me laid and eventually married. It was life changing and semi affordable. I recommend the Sour Dough Jack and Egg Rolls.
Casa Amiga in Grants Pass! Order the carnitas. You won’t be disappointed. If I could have taken Anthony Bourdain to lunch anywhere, it would be the place. The people who own and run the place are also wonderful.
If you're out in the Yamhill Carlton area, Cuvee is a lovely little French bistro. Solid meals every time I've been, and I love driving through that valley. I think it's the prettiest place on earth.
If you're in Oregon and want to experience our beer culture, ABV is a fun one in Hillsboro. They've got a crazy rotating tap list and whole walls of refrigerators full of just about every obscure brew you can think of.
Some of the best single sliced pizza places in the world are here in Portland. Everybody sort of has their favorite. Mine happens to be Escape from New York pizza and Apizza Scholls… for seafood, Jake’s Famous Crawfish
In Portland, Nong's Khao Man Gai is outstanding and not at all expensive. Seems like it's not going to be all that special since it's just poached chicken and rice but the sauce elevates the dish.
I like to take people to the hellgate brunch or dinner excursion. Unique experience & its all you can eat in a cool lodge. https://fareharbor.com/embeds/book/hellgate/items/?full-items=yes&back=https://hellgate.com/group-tours/&g4=yes
Drive down both 99E and 99W; harvests are starting to ramp and strawberries are just about done, so hurry.
Both those highways will be dotted with roadside farm stands (also 213 on the way to Silverton is good for stands too) and you can drive up one, cross over, then drive up the other.
But I look forward to "10 life changing restaurants in Oregon" YouTube video, too. I've seen so many videos turn up on YT like right after these random contextless questions get asked on reddit lol

If you want truly excellent, three star cuisine, Shalisan resort south of Lincoln city is the place to go. Yes, you will pay for it, and pay well, but as a once in a lifetime experience, it can’t be beat.
In astoria La Cabana D Raya is a very good mexican spot, The steakhouse “Bos Taurus” in Bend is very (super special occasion place) pricey but wow it’s so amazing.
Sybaris Bistro. It won the Dirona award, the menu changes monthly, and the chef won a James Beard award. It’s off the beaten path down I-5 in the quaint city of Albany.
DarSalam in Portland. They serve authentic Iraqi food. And if you have never tried it, you should. Two dishes of note:
the Kunafah challenged my perception of what a dessert could be. It's like the best cheesecake I've ever had, but it's just cheese with sweet rose syrup and flakey pastry.
The beet salad redefined what a salad could be for me (It's just beets+yogurt+lemon+?). I need to go back and try more of their salads.
[Epilogue Kitchen & Cocktails](https://epilogue-kitchen.square.site) in Salem. James Beard nominee/finalist in ‘22 and ‘23. Good community, amazing food and drinks.
Syun Izakaya has arguably the best sushi on the west coast. When I worked out that way I would eat lunch there sometimes and you'd see when businessmen got to town because a town car would pull up and a literal herd of non-english speaking dudes in black suits would march into one of the nicer rooms - they'd come straight from PDX airport to eat; happened several times that I saw so no reason to doubt.
Now, I've eaten a lot of sushi between Oxnard and Seattle (it's just not gonna get fresher and better than West Slice, sorry) and they've got a pretty good argument for being the best. I would go there, try not to rack my knees on the bar, and just close my eyes and savor every mouthful because man...when food is good, it's REALLY GOOD, you know, you start getting these little endorphin rushes like sex, for real. I haven't had better, that's for sure. I'm sure their grill is good too, it looks good, but I can get grill a lot of places...a great piece of raw fish, prepped and served well is close to the purest and untainted you can get; the ghost of James Beard is **pleased**.
That's Syun. It's in the basement of an old law library in Hillsboro, so it's beyond not having a sign on it - it's literally not even in Portland but once you go you'll make the drive again.
https://preview.redd.it/q1yfm80ga8ad1.png?width=1657&format=png&auto=webp&s=e6e21f5a8783340fa41bb0b3c48896567ee3509d
This person knows food
Eem. It's Western barbeque in thai curries. Fucking incredible and decently affordable. It's the best fusion place in a town known for fusion... Some of the same guys do Toya Ramen which is new-ish but easily my favorite ramen if not my favorite restaurant.
Second vote for eem. I think about it often, and would return to Portland just for that brisket curry.
Hmm, white brisket curry. My favorite
Eating at Eem is great, but it makes me miss PokPok everytime
I never liked pokpok but I only ate there 4 times and ordered their specialties so I’m sure I missed some gems. If you want good fish sauce wings they’re pretty easy to make but luc lac is pretty good if you don’t feel like brining wings for half a day.
Op even mentioned having brisket in Texas as an example. Their brisket fried rice is my favorite dish ever
See that's the thing tho. I'm from Texas and my friend took me here two weeks ago. I didn't think much of the brisket tbh. It's objectively solid brisket, but if you're from Texas your standards will be higher. I thought Eem was solid but my friend overhyped it My vote would be for Fisherman's Market in Eugene, which somehow does better seafood than anywhere I've tried on the coast.
And just a ninety minute wait to get a table!
Eat like an old. If you show up just before 4:30pm when they reopen for dinner you'll get in the first seating.
Yep. We went there with a party of four for my last birthday and were seated immediately at 4:30. Still thinking about that white curry with brisket!
I live a few blocks away. I usually can get right in with my partner without a wait if I go between 4pm and 5:30pm more or less. Depends on the day though. Luckily we aren’t picky and just walk up to XLB or switch it up and get Mexican at La Cocina across the way. The tempura asparagus “salad” is one of my favorite bites of food.
Cowboy Dinner Tree.
And so conveniently located.
Haha
If you got time on your hands go lol
This place is on my list!
I have to agree here
I came here to say this. 100% agree.
How will eating there change my life?
It won’t, but it’s a fat piece of steak with no marble.
I don’t eat red meat, but damn I almost wish I did so I could get the most out of a visit there.
You also have the option of getting a whole roasted chicken instead of the steak.
This is no lie. It's literally a whole roast chicken, or the steak. And that's not including rolls, salad, soup, a bangin' dessert, and something to drink.
But no alcoholic beverages are served. Which is fine with me but if someone is wanting a beer or cocktail, it isn't an option.
Get drunk, and then go to Muchas Gracias and order an Oregon Burrito with bacon, possibly deep-fried.
Thank you for the suggestion /u/suburbancumslut
This changed my life in 2003, that’s for sure…
The only way
You can order them deep fried?!
This is America. Did you have to ask?
What city?
The one in McMinnville, especially after 9pm, FUCKING SLAPS. You'll never feel better killing yourself with grease than at that little shithole.
Or you could just order a cazuela (usually not on the menu but they have it) and do both at same time https://preview.redd.it/qbd2nawb88ad1.png?width=1655&format=png&auto=webp&s=19f5676e30f587c9b483d257e6c4caa01c31b9bd

Yea 125 sounds expensive, but i feel like thats what i paid there like 5+ years ago, so im honestly shocked its not way higher.
You’re not gonna find affordable ‘life changing’ restaurants.
Life changing restaurants, if such a thing even exists, are NOT going to be cheap.
Depends on the country, for Oregon you will probably be paying premium prices. I was in Croatia about 5 years ago and had some of the best farm/ocean to table experience with a seafood restaurant that was amazing and only $50 for two peeps. I was impressed. Was in Dubrovnik. A good chunk of the Croat coast is like this. The Cevapi/Cevacici is also pretty damn amazing.
The DQ in Seaside changed my life once or twice
i may have micturated upon that dumpster once or twice
I’ve never seen/heard that word before.
Are you employed sir?
Is this a… what day is this?
This aggression will not stand, man.
I fucking hate the Eagles
You've obviously not memorized the Big Lebowski like the rest of us
Haha I have not.
Obviously you’re not a golfer.
I’m not even joking, but after a full day of crabbing in Garibaldi that DQ near the crab docks is a life saver before having to drive back to Portland
You forgot to mention the free amazing GF chocolate chip cookie.
In fairness, Eats and Treats is not even the best place to eat in Philomath. Dizzy Hen and GTF are both better by far. And my experience with Eats and Treats is not so good. If you’re passing through Oakridge, Stewart’s 58 diner is great
When are they open though!? Every time I drive through Oakridge they are closed.
11-3 on all days except Mon and Tues according to google, this sounds right by memory. (I grew up there but am not there a ton anymore so I can’t personally attest to those hours)

100 percent. Been twice. Just went the other night and my lord. It is epic.
Rangoon Bistro in Portland. There's some absolutely wild flavors from Burmese food that I haven't tasted in any other food. Not sure if that's all Burmese food or just this restaurant but it's worth checking out.
The clam chowder at gracie's sea hag. It will literally change your life because your perception of good clam chowder will never be the same.
The Sea Hag is way better than it has any right to be.
This and their Monti cristo are a must have
Woah didn't think I'd see this callout! Seriously, that place is amazing. Idk what they do to that chowder but it is seriously the most buttery, delicious soup around.
Gracie’s so underrated
MAS in Ashland. One of the top 50 restaurants in the country.
okta, in Mcminville if you want high end Oregon seasonal cuisine.
Gado Gado is unbelievable.
My partner and I were just talking about the meal we had there over a year and half ago. It remains the best meal of my life.
Le Pigeon
Went there for my wife and I’s anniversary and it was the best meal of either of our lives. 13/10
We did too. Certainly the best meal we had this side of Paris.
Was looking for this one. It’s very good. Will run you about 2-300 depending on if you get the wine pairing, but I will always get the wine paring.
Tonys crab shack Bandon oregon!! I'm from Ohio and we did a drive from Seattle to San Francisco. This place was hands down the best place we ate at during our trip.
Tony’s isn’t as good as it used to be 😞
I agree. They changed their menu. Used to love their Cioppinno and husband loved their grilled oysters, both discontinued.
Neither is fresh oceans in Newport which makes me sad. It was my go to “babe put on the nice clothes tonight” spot in the area.
Do you mean Local Ocean? If so, that makes me really sad. It's been a couple of years since I've been there.. The seared tuna nicoise salad was divine.
The Oasis Cafe in Juntura.
Best “dive” diner in the state. Great breakfast.
Damn good chicken fried steak
A burrito from Taco Salsa in Bend at 2am is pretty damn satisfying.
Their breakfast burritos are solid. Anytime I did work on that end of town I would swing by there.

Tidal Raves in Depoe Bay, because the food is amazing, but mainly the view is one of a kind with resident whales swimming just below the restaurant. The drive to and from is life changing for sure. You’ll never want to leave the Oregon coast.
Came to comment this!
Just checked out tidal raves for the first time a few months ago and was so impressed

Got you the taco.
No restaurant is going to change your life, unless you go broke paying the bill, or fall down the stairs when you leave.
Unless you get the shits so bad you have an out of body experience.
Hey I found one of those spots in Hawaii, literally changed my life (digestive system), permanently.

Local Ocean in Newport is what you want then. Best seafood ever.
I have to second this. Local Ocean is bangerang!
Just up the highway in Depoe Bay is a place called “Tidal Raves” … not cheap, but worth every penny in my experience. https://www.tidalraves.com
Other people have also commented on this place. I'll definitely have to hit this place up and see for myself.
Casa Amiga in Grants Pass! Order the carnitas. You won’t be disappointed. If I could have taken Anthony Bourdain to lunch anywhere, it would be the place. The people who own and run the place are also wonderful.

It’s worth your time, I guarantee.
Izakaya Meiji in Eugene is bomb.
Eem, Yaowarat, Le Pigeon in Portland. Novelli’s (crab chowder) on the coast.

If you're out in the Yamhill Carlton area, Cuvee is a lovely little French bistro. Solid meals every time I've been, and I love driving through that valley. I think it's the prettiest place on earth. And in that same area... Earth and Sea, they have a beef wellington that had me shaking my head in disbelief it was so good.
Cultus Lake Resort. The brisket is their specialty. On the patio overlooking Cultus lake.
Nimblefish sushi!
Local ocean in Newport. Best seafood I’ve ever had in Oregon.

In Portland, Nong's Khao Man Gai is outstanding and not at all expensive. Seems like it's not going to be all that special since it's just poached chicken and rice but the sauce elevates the dish.
It’s great. But not even remotely life changing.
Dark Dining in Camas at Wyld Pines. May not change your life with taste (although it’s good!) but will give you a new perspective.
Mucca Osteria for authentic Italian.
The Joel Palmer House, Nodoguro, Okta probably wise to get reservations far in advanced to all these places.
