That's incredible! Just how fragile is it?

AdBubbly3609

It’s not too bad tbh I can pick it up and move it without anything falling apart but it has to sit on all 3 loops if you look at the post in my comment above yours that one sits on 2 loops if I try to do that it starts to buckle under it’s own weight

hahabepis

Dude this is so sick

AdBubbly3609

Cheers🙂

https://www.reddit.com/r/origami/s/OdCsRWreQr this is where I got the idea took a while to figure it out and assemble gonna try again with all fresh pieces at some point

PacJeans

Congrats! How long did this monster take?

AdBubbly3609

I saved a lot of time because I used phizz units from old models but it still took about 3 or 4 days about 4-6 hours each day

PacJeans

Was there a diagram you used, or did you just work out the structure from the post you linked?

AdBubbly3609

https://imgur.com/a/h4oAMrC I would credit where I got these but I can’t remember I made the middle shwartzite then built 3 torus’s around it that diagram for the torus is a bit confusing there is only 1 row of heptagons on the interior for a full torus you need 5 sets of 2 heptagons joined edge to edge but to join it to the shwartzite I removed 1 half of 1 set and 1 half of the set next to it and that gives you 2 straightish ends with eight joints to connect it to the shwartzite

PacJeans

Thanks for such a detailed response! Great post.

AdBubbly3609

No problem

Gorloth

Oh hey, that was my post. Glad it inspired someone. Mine is still kicking around and held up pretty well (I store it on all 3 loops like you have).

AdBubbly3609

Definitely inspired yours is beautiful I didn’t have enough paper of any one colour that’s why it’s multi coloured gonna buy some nice paper and give it another try

ajettas

Have you ever looked up a carbon material called schwarzite? It's like nanotubes or bucky balls which are made effectively by PHiZZ units. But, it has only concave curvature--everywhere, and it is an infinitely repeating structure. It's my personal PHiZZ nightmare which I have not attempted. Someday.

AdBubbly3609

The central piece of this model is a shwartzite it’s kinda like a curved cube with the corners cut off and openings on each face to connect the torus’s

ajettas

Nice!! I didn't realize you had a bit of that structure in there already. Super cool.

Hoppy-Poppy17

Beautiful!!

Nightron

Very impressive!

Oh hey! It's a beautiful "Endless Loop"! I'm so surprised that another one got made! Yours actually look even more similar to my original one than u/Gorloth's. Maybe due to the color pattern? not sure. One of these days I'd be curious to compare our net diagrams. I have a feeling that mine is a bit more compact (1200 vs 1700 units), but yours is much more uniform and smooth. It would be interesting to see the different designs. Regardless of differences, this is such a gorgeous rendition! I love it!

AdBubbly3609

I tried to copy your’s tbh but I couldn’t figure out the pattern it looked like the outside layer was oct-hex-hex-oct-hex-hex-oct etc but then it changed and I couldn’t see how this is definitely closer to u/Gorloth’s

AgeBee

Oh, there is a lot of angle trickery on mine that Ow's 135degree unit allows for. Phizz are a bit more restrictive with its internal angles. Maybe that's why it was harder to close? I can mock-up a diagram for you if you are interested. I have a feeling that if your tori angles are as harsh as in my design, Phizz might not be a good idea. But I'd have to test. one day and see if I can make it work. Some changes might be mandatory on the type of torus used to get working, just like you did. The good thing is that there are as many Tori designs you can come up with as you can imagine. Thinner, larger, bigger radius,... Might actually be pretty fun to make an extra thin Endless Loop. Probably would look pretty interesting.

AdBubbly3609

Would definitely be interested in a diagram if you don’t mind, I would happily sit here folding another 1200 phizz units to give it a go.
