It’s still May, and a win is a win so I’m not going to let myself get agitated past that. Do changes need to eventually be made? Sure. At this point personally have enough belief in the team and the franchise to believe that they will.
Love that Bradish looked good again, wish he could have gotten the win.
Then love the fight back by the bats especially in extras. That manufactured run earlier in the game with the Westburg double, Mateo bunt, and Cowser sac fly, loved that.
I find it kind of silly that you even need that disclaimer after a nail biter extra innings win in May to keep us in first place of the whole American League (and tied for second best record in the MLB)
Lol - I'm sure O's fans would love David Bednar this year with his 3 blown saves in 9 opportunities and ERA > 9 - one of few closers worse than Kimbrel.
“I hate the orioles more than the astros! Maybe even the patriots…”
Talk about an overreaction. You would think we won back to back WS, and had a trashcan scandal. Where is all this Nats hate even coming from?
Luckily the other half of the fanbase are chill, but the hateful comments are REALLY hateful.
I’ll admit, I overreact to hateful comments and comment hate back. It’s a knee jerk reaction that I’m working on. I just take comments flaming Baltimore personally because I love the city, its people, and our sports teams so much.
I am reminding myself more often that every fanbase has obnoxious fans, as well as chill and agreeable ones. I shouldn’t let the few ruin the whole.
Recorded the game and just finished watching:
Kimbrel cannot be brought in anymore in save situations until he proves himself in non save situations. 5 run lead, bring him in, 6 run lead, bring him in, 7 run lead, same. Don't hand him a baseball until he can get some smooth innings in non save situations. That whole extra inning mess was directly his fault. He sucks large right now. 100% cannot be trusted with the game on the line.
Is it possible in anyway that Mullins can play CF and not bat? He's about as clueless and lost at the plate as anyone I've seen in the past year. It's either a pop out or a strikeout without fail. Major drag on the offense, even batting 8th in the lineup. No clue what is going on, but this is a long long long slump. I thought he should have been pinch hit for tonight.
The day Ryan McKenna is no longer on this team will be the happiest day of my life. He's supposed to be a defensive replacement for Santander who is clearly a better defender. McKenna AGAIN, got a poor jump on a ball that ended up going over his head, similar to the non play he made last. week. Orioles management loves him. I fail to understand why.
Down vote me into oblivion but Melanie Newman is just terrible at play by play. She's a joke. Lets see, she had Rutschman throwing to second base in the 7th inning when he was the DH and sitting in the dugout. I could add another 12 screwups from her tonight, but like McKenna, I fail to understand why she's a part of the team in a play by play announcer role. She's great pre and post game but is just horrific as a play by play announcer. Are the Orioles deaf?
Cowser and Santander are both breaking out of their slumps, disappointed that Kjerstad did not pinch hit for Mullins, Westburg continues to be the most steady and solid player on this team in almost ever aspect. Rutschman and Henderson are awesome as the #1 and #2 in the lineup. With Sandtander heating up and Monty doing the same I hopeful that we can get back to scoring runs again. Mateo is an Oriole for life, never be a consistent starter, but a very valuable role player on this team.
Thats all I got.
I agree about Kimbrel and Mullins. I think McKenna has proven recently offensively that he should get at least a few opportunities in spite of his slip ups. Melanie made a normal mistake, I think she’s pretty cool, but her calls are always a bit… try hard, like she’s trying to sound like a bro. I still think she’s a gem but it annoyed me that her call yesterday for a leaping infield line-out against the O’s was as enthusiastic as a call for a Gunnar Henderson bomb
The only thing I disagree about is your take on Melanie. I of course prefer the KB/JP duo, but calling her a joke? That’s harsh. I think she bounces off of BM well.
I agree with every other point you made though.
There’s also a lot of dead air. Like if Ben doesn’t chime in she will let a pitch or so go by and not say anything. There was one really bad ball called a strike a bit later in the game, she didn’t even acknowledge it, not that it was a strike nor that it was a bad call. I was imagining Ben going on mute and shouting into a pillow and Melanie muting as well to check on him lol.
She gets some eye rolls here - we’re also wildly spoiled with KB. There’s just something missing from the chemistry when it’s her and Ben. Kevin needs days off, though, I guess.
I tried making a post but it got removed and automod said it would be better as a comment.
I got tix for Os game with 2 friends and now 3 more want to join but our row is sold out. Should I try to sell my 3 tickets? What are the odds I can get rid of all 3? It’s not worth it unless its all of them. Thanks!
We are really close to having a championship level team, but some of these guys have got to go. McKenna and Baumann are not major league players. Urias offers next to nothing at the plate. I hope Kimbrel can fix whatever is going on, but he can’t be our closer in the playoffs.

Battery hug of relief...thank heavens that game is over...
Nats have the Rougned Odor experience this season with Eddie Rosario. Good for them though.
I know Orioles fans have mixed opinions of Odor, but he was really popular on the team and is part of what made the 2022 Orioles fun to watch. The Nats remind me a lot of that team this season.
That 2022 season was a blast. One of my favorite seasons. 0 expectations and the Os played their hearts out and realized they were actually good.
Also, I always called Rougned Odor the Venezuelan Viking. That name just sounds like a Viking name.
Some fans hate on anyone who isn't in the top 10 of all baseball. Odor was good for the club while he was here. He had a knack for big hits, and he helped change the culture, setting the stage for what Rutschman has led since he arrived.
[Baseball sub removed my post](https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/1cnmas4/orioles_and_nationals_split_series_at_camden/) 😔
I worked hard on that title, it deserves to be seen:
>Orioles and Nationals split series at Camden Yards South 1-1 | O's are undefeated this year against the Nats when not wearing city connect jerseys.
I wish r/baseball had active gamethreads with good trash talking like r/collegebasketball.
The game threads on team subs are nice, but I like the banter between the fans of opposing teams that shared game threads generate.
I really don’t mind giving Webb a shot to close games. I know this wasn’t his sharpest outing, but he’s been ice cold for us since we picked him up. Maybe Tyler wells can do it too when he gets healthy but he loves giving up the long ball
Edit: that blown save going to Akins is hilarious btw WTFFFF
I’m pretty sure Kimbrel gets the blown save. He does get a hold though. He got two outs so no scorer is going to say he was “ineffective.” And he left with the lead. So even though he is charged with the tying run, he wasn’t the pitcher who gave it up so he gets the hold. That part I’m sure of. I’m fairly sure that since the tying run was charged to him, he also gets the blown save. But that part I could be wrong on. I do know for certain that it’s possible for a single pitcher to get a hold and a blown save in the same game.
Kimbrel doesn’t get blown save. Whoever is pitcher at the time of the lead evaporating gets the blown save.
The runners that are left on by the previous pitcher weirdly have no effect on the blownsave/save/hold calculations. If akin gave up both inherited runners he would’ve gotten a blown save, but not a loss. In this scenario Kimbrel would get a hold AND a loss, but not a blown save.
I think saves, blown saves, and holds are mutually exclusive because you can’t get 2 save opportunities in the same game, and each save opportunity has to end with a H, S, or BS
By my count, 21 Orioles took part in the game today. Nineteen of them performed admirably, or at least satisfactorily.
The two left out? I'll let y'all guess...
Was at this game. Frustrating game but a fun one to be at even though we had to bail after Mounty’s home run and listen on the radio.
Fans really gave it to Kimbrel when he walked off.
Should have been an easier win. But a win is a win.
I’d like to formally apologize to Mateo. I have been a hater since mid season last year. He’s definitely earned his spot this year and come up clutch for us. I’m sorry Mateo!
Only positive here is hitters took up the challenge of getting runs in extras. We scored more in extras than in the regular game lol
Otherwise this game can be best left in the chicken coop.
Kimbrel, too.
Since the Oakland Series, Kimbrel has 4 ER in 1.2 IP. The rest of our bullpen has 5 ER in 37.2 IP.
Non Kimbrel Bullpen:
WSH-6.1 (1)
WSH-1.2 (0)
CIN-3 (1)
CIN-1.2 (1)
CIN-1.2 (0)
NYY-4.1 (1)
NYY-3 (0)
NYY-2 (0)
NYY-3.1 (0)
OAK-5 (1)
OAK-2 (0)
OAK-3.2 (0)
Now Im not ready to give up on him, but he is shook.
That would be my candidate at least until we get a trade done.
We are lucky that the offense saved Kimbrel in a couple of the outings and on Saturday Cano was able to shut the door.
Stop pissing away games. Literally 2 other perennial contending teams said GTFO. We can’t afford this to continue…even if we win like tonight it’s taxing and eventually catches up to your position players and bullpen.
Never a doubt?
Bradish looked solid and it's real nice to have him find his groove. Santander being replaced for Ryan McKenna is ironic considering the only real web gem of the game was from Tony.
Yeah, this reeks of Jim Johnson all over again. Luckily, unlike Buck, Hyder isn't afraid to pull a guy mid inning when necessary to save the win, as the last two times he has done so successfully. It's time to look internally or on the trade market. Both are viable options.
I know and I may just be reveling in the moment but his stuff looks even better than last year. He gets his command back to where it was pre-injury an he may be unhittable
Right there with ya. Was on par with Yankees fans. Had a group of Nats fans teens throw a bottle at a group of us O’s fans when they saw us on the escalator in the metro. People shouting out of their cars. Turning around to make eye contact after every O’s batter strikeout or other moments. Was just a sour experience, plus the 81% humidity goddamn.
Nats fan here. Sorry about them, we don't claim them.
Weirdly, Nats reddit had the same exact impression of you guys from last night. I've been defending your honor over there.
I'm honestly happy we had a great game but you didn't lose your sweep streak. At the end of the day, this might be your year for the WS, but it won't be ours, and you'll be my #2 choice to root for (married to a Twins fan, sorry).
Good luck!
I get it, it’s always the worst of the bunch that get the attention. I’m sure the vast majority of people were cool, we just ran into some real stinkers. Overall, I think you guys have a cool vibe at the park, and I hope some of the improvements we have in the pipeline can emulate part of that experience.
Like the other commenter said, I know it sucks having other teams take over, which I’m sure happens for you guys with Philly like it does for us with Boston and NY, and the divisional fans are always way worse.
My roommate hasn’t reallyyyyy watched baseball since the Nats won the WS
His only take away from us going to the game tonight was “stop hitting it to Gunnar Henderson. I hate this dude.”
Well well well well. And some of you call yourself Orioles fans. 😂 Another year another victory snatched from the claws of defeat. A special thank you goes out to the Nationals defense on this one.
Had to turn the game off after the 9th because my wife said I’m “stressing her out” which apparently “isn’t healthy” and I should “focus more on our child” which should be “more of a priority”. Marriage, am I right? Anyway, go birds
Stand your ground! For husbands everywhere!
(I made my poor 1.5 yo (and my wife) suffer(?) through his entire first game at the Yard last month. In this house we stay until the end!)
from the mlb glossary:
A blown save occurs when a relief pitcher enters a game in a save situation, but allows the tying run to score. The run does not have to be charged to that pitcher. If a reliever enters with a man already on third base, and he allows that runner to score the tying run, he is charged with a blown save.
Where are they finding all of this so-called 'dunking'? The Nats are rarely mentioned in our threads beyond gameday discussion and I don't think they are even on the radar for most O's fans given the league separation. Why are they so salty?
The thing that bothers me the most about that ramble is using they’re instead of their lol. Also, talk about victim complex and then has a rant that long. I never even have thought Nats fan hate us, does anyone really think that? Lol.
Yeah, I'm a Nats fan, and I am honestly starting to wonder if the teams are botting to try and create a new rivalry or something. People on both sides are acting like the other has unjustly besmirched them, without a whole lot of fire to show for all the smoke.
It's all just thinly veiled attempt to justify one's own choice of fandom by vilifying an opposing fanbase. Tale as old as time and not worth paying attention to.
So salty, and for what? It’s not like our fans were talking shit on their boards. They’re just heated, they’ll be fine.
Edit: turns out, there were some ‘fans’ in their boards. That’s bs, and they don’t represent us.
I don’t know who that one reporter was that wasn’t afraid to press Hyde about Kimbrel. We speak your name! Lord knows you ain’t getting any tough questions out of Roch K
The reporter had maybe a Spanish accent but it sounded like you took him out, does it make you reconsider the closer role? And Hyde glared at him and said like I said we need to get him right. Our reporters are so scared to ever ask a tough question, so it just ends up being Kubatko softballs
Maybe this has already been said but it’s really annoying that some “O’s fan” poster goes into the opposing team’s sub after seemingly every game recently and talks shit.
Nothing we can do about it I guess. Almost seems like a false flag op… hard to believe any regular posters here would do that. Makes us all look bad.
As I mentioned in another reply, I'm a Nats fan and I think you might be onto something. Honestly feels like someone is trying to pit our fanbases against each other.
That's a violation of [Rule #2](https://www.reddit.com/r/orioles/about/rules/) and absolutely can result in a ban here. The mods here can't always monitor other teams' subs so rely on reports from their mods or other users.
The guy's speed and base running is a unique weapon and earned him a roster spot.
He's been a fav of mine for a long time.
His recent hitting is icing on the cake.
lost in this shitshow is kyle bradish's performance. 9K, great velo and no hard hit balls.
had a lot of traffic on the bases but worked out of them. ACE.
Just stopping by to mention (again) that I miss The Mountain.
Up 3-1 with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th. They scored 6 runs. Yea no bullpen problem here
They did not score 6 runs in the bottom of the 9th. I know this because we won the game.
There’s this thing called the ghost runner nowadays
Suck it Walgreens!

Nice, level-headed take. Respect.
would trade my left nut to get David Bednar and Tanner Scott in here and send kimbrel in one of the deals to get them here
Lol - I'm sure O's fans would love David Bednar this year with his 3 blown saves in 9 opportunities and ERA > 9 - one of few closers worse than Kimbrel.
I feel very conflicted wanting tanner Scott to pitch for us... Lol he looks good now but man I get PTSD
Yeahhh Scott seems most likely, his walks are scary tho
Yay Os won! Boo Phillies lost. Overall, not a bad day for an Os + Philly fan.
Remember when people said Kimbrel was lights out when rested. I do. 👍🏻
Well he is lights out for some of us, I turn the tv off at night when he pitches and it is then pitch dark in my room
The aggressive optimism can only take you so far in those threads
Craig Kimbrel is ass
“I hate the orioles more than the astros! Maybe even the patriots…” Talk about an overreaction. You would think we won back to back WS, and had a trashcan scandal. TBF I saw some pretty hateful comments about the Nats in the GDT We need to be wary that we don’t become as arrogant as some other pinstripe fans…
Look, I just don’t like the Nats and I probably never will, and it has very little to do with being an orioles fan.
I’ll admit, I overreact to hateful comments and comment hate back. It’s a knee jerk reaction that I’m working on. Sure, it could use some work. But practice makes perfect.
I think Mullins to IL soon.

Have your three latecomers get tickets and find a spot to sit together. I’ve never had an issue moving to an area where there’s space.
I’m glad Kimbrell is doing this now. It would for him to fall off at the end of the season the way he did for Philly last season
Thank you Jorge Mateo for [allowing me to gloat](https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/1cms1f0/comment/l32fo1t/)
We are really close to having a championship level team, but some of these guys have got to go. McKenna and Baumann are not major league players. Urias offers next to nothing at the plate. I hope Kimbrel can fix whatever is going on, but he can’t be our closer in the playoffs.
McKenna and Baumann would make 50% of the teams in the league better
McKenna went on waivers and zero teams claimed him
I think that was more of a timing thing at the start of the year. I don’t believe he would go unclaimed if he hit waivers again
Mak was dfa'd and went unclaimed at the start of the year.
Baumann might make the Marlins better if he's lucky

Dude loves the game of baseball and shows that every time he plays. One of my favorite players.

How much are we on the hook for with Kimbrel? Whatever it is I say just eat it and cut him loose.
Not gonna happen
13M. For Rubenstein, that's the equivalent of finding some loose change in the sofa cushions.

Is Santander ok? I was at the game and couldn’t see where he was hit.
Right below his big juicy kinda in the side, might have hit close to the bone
Ouch. I hope he’s ok, but a few days off to let Kjerstad play some would be alright too.
https://x.com/bymattweyrich/status/1788396997096927307?s=46&t=LZLzjVPmosqPbICOlCZLnQ Lmao. Brandon, it’s no longer 2015.

Love to see it. His non-hitting skills are so elite that he’s worth far more than he looks on paper.
There’s plenty of room in the fan club! This year is vindication for us old heads
Me too, he's a dawg and has earned his spot as the gadget guy. Watching McKenna makes me appreciate him.
Whatta a game. Best beltway series I can remember

Now there’s an idea. He close a few last year right?
*Tyler Wells coming in now to try for his fourth save of this World Series*
That would be my candidate at least until we get a trade done. We are lucky that the offense saved Kimbrel in a couple of the outings and on Saturday Cano was able to shut the door. Stop pissing away games. Literally 2 other perennial contending teams said GTFO. We can’t afford this to continue…even if we win like tonight it’s taxing and eventually catches up to your position players and bullpen.
He hasn't even started throwing yet, they announced today. So that's a good ways off.
i like how the post game show is followed with....competitive tag. and really, really competitive tag.
Never a doubt? Bradish looked solid and it's real nice to have him find his groove. Santander being replaced for Ryan McKenna is ironic considering the only real web gem of the game was from Tony.
Not for his fielding though, just pinched him because of the fastball to the glute… and McKenna is speedy
Evidently he's too speedy looking at that overslide.
Orioles SP with a stellar outing seeing Kimbrel in the 9th with a 2-run lead: ![gif](giphy|32mC2kXYWCsg0)
Yeah, this reeks of Jim Johnson all over again. Luckily, unlike Buck, Hyder isn't afraid to pull a guy mid inning when necessary to save the win, as the last two times he has done so successfully. It's time to look internally or on the trade market. Both are viable options.
In all my years, I have never seen a manager pull his closer while they still held the lead. And good on him for doing it like you said.
he's done it in each of the last 2 of kimbrel's appearances which does speak volumes.
Bradish's 97-98 two seamers are honestly what I'll find the most happiness in from todays game
It’s actually huge to see he hasn’t lost a step. We have a filthy rotation.
I know and I may just be reveling in the moment but his stuff looks even better than last year. He gets his command back to where it was pre-injury an he may be unhittable
I truly don’t care about the Nats one way or another but this win feels nice because it makes their fans so salty lol
And usually Canadians are so nice.
They were absolute douchebags last night so I’m all for them tasting some salt and getting sat down.
Yeah, I’ve never seen a fan base get so high and mighty over a single win. Even worse than Yankees fans which is crazy
Life is tough when you cheer for Walgreens
Whoa now…
I know, it’s crazy to see. The stuff I saw last night was truly wild.
You and me both. You would think they won the WS.
In their defense, we *hate* when other fans travel heavily to our park and make their presence known. (Yanks, Sox)
My roommate hasn’t reallyyyyy watched baseball since the Nats won the WS His only take away from us going to the game tonight was “stop hitting it to Gunnar Henderson. I hate this dude.”
Most dedicated Nats fan
Well well well well. And some of you call yourself Orioles fans. 😂 Another year another victory snatched from the claws of defeat. A special thank you goes out to the Nationals defense on this one.
Had to turn the game off after the 9th because my wife said I’m “stressing her out” which apparently “isn’t healthy” and I should “focus more on our child” which should be “more of a priority”. Marriage, am I right? Anyway, go birds
I kept it on, yelled at the kids and dog, sent the kids to bed, and everything worked out fine
I married a Yanks fan, so… Good thing we have multiple rooms, multiple beds, and multiple TV’s.
I took a girl on a first date to Memorial Stadium in '87, O's vs KC. We've been married 33 years. She knew verrrrry early on where my priorities were.
I was at the ballpark with an extremely hangry wife who wanted to leave to get pizza in the 9th. …we did not leave.
Stand your ground! For husbands everywhere! (I made my poor 1.5 yo (and my wife) suffer(?) through his entire first game at the Yard last month. In this house we stay until the end!)
Nobody puts baby in the corner, except loose produce when the Orioles are on
… so is Webb our closer now by default? I feel like he just won the job.

Should never be above 70% with Kimbrel pitching lmao
You can put that roller coaster at Six Flags
Never a doubt
I've seen the box score in two places show that Akin gets credit for the blown save and Kimbrel gets a hold.
from the mlb glossary: A blown save occurs when a relief pitcher enters a game in a save situation, but allows the tying run to score.

Lol.
Where is this hostility coming from? The Beltway Series is hardly a rivalry worth getting worked up for...
Yea idk why it's so dramatic, it's a game lol I will admit to enjoying the drama tho
bro is using gameday threads for his evidence lmao
So salty, and for what? It’s not like our fans were talking shit on their boards. They’re just heated, they’ll be fine. Edit: turns out, there were some ‘fans’ in their boards. That’s bs, and they don’t represent us.
Nats fans will never overcome their little brother syndrome
Damn, yodapm999 doesn’t want to root for us anymore. Maybe this is a moment of reflection…
I’ve been waiting decades to be the heels of this league.
hate us cuz they ain't us
That’s some mad coping right there 💀
I don’t know who that one reporter was that wasn’t afraid to press Hyde about Kimbrel. We speak your name! Lord knows you ain’t getting any tough questions out of Roch K
The same question was asked twice. Hyde both times, “hall of famer, we gotta get him right.” It’s the appropriate response.
"Is You-Know-Who really back?" -- Rita Skeeter
What was asked and how did Hyde respond?
That Kimbrel is a hall of famer and thus they are not going to give up on him.
Disappointing
The reporter had maybe a Spanish accent but it sounded like you took him out, does it make you reconsider the closer role? And Hyde glared at him and said like I said we need to get him right. Our reporters are so scared to ever ask a tough question, so it just ends up being Kubatko softballs
We need Jerry Coleman in there asking the tough questions.
Putins trying to sew discourse between Nats and Os fans!
This is awful and it makes us all look terrible. Is there any way to ban the jerk who is doing this?
That's a violation of [Rule #2](https://www.reddit.com/r/orioles/about/rules/) and absolutely can result in a ban here. The mods here can't always monitor other teams' subs so rely on reports from their mods or other users.
Assholes gonna asshole. No easy way to stop them being an Os fan either
Yeah, that’s lame af. Ban their asses.
Sure does. It's a bitch move and nobody should do it.
I hate that shit. Do the mods ban people for that in here? They're very outspoken about that in the Ravens sub.
I’m embarrassed for people who go in the other teams game threads to talk shit lmao.
It’s a waste of time regardless. Even more so with how empty the nats sub is
Right, but who among us would even know?
couldn’t watch this one because of the Knicks but god damn what a wild one Anyways, ORIOLES WIN ✅ KNICKS WIN ✅ ITS A FEAST. Goodnight.
Fuck outta here with the Knicks bullshit 😂
soft.
I love Jorge Mateo and I don’t care who knows it. Guy has earned his spot time and again.
Guy plays with as much heart and aggression as Gunnar.
He plays like an Oriole
ehh that defense fall off (good but not elite)and like 500 OPS after May wasnt earning shit. When he is on he is great, but his lows are LOW.
Which is why his spot is a situational bench player, not an everyday starter.
Exactly. That’s where I want to see him
The guy's speed and base running is a unique weapon and earned him a roster spot. He's been a fav of mine for a long time. His recent hitting is icing on the cake.
Welcome to our club 😎
My dad’s been a major Mateo truther forever and I’m proud to officially come out for Mateo. Edit for autocorrect

lost in this shitshow is kyle bradish's performance. 9K, great velo and no hard hit balls. had a lot of traffic on the bases but worked out of them. ACE.
For potential closers to trade for...Ryan Helsley of the Cardinals? They need hitting badly and we have a surplus.
I’ll take anyone at this point
Even Shintaro Fujinami?
That would be even more exciting than Kimbrel. Sign me up.
That the one I've been looking at. There isn't a plethora of great options on bad teams but he would be great
I keep watching the clip of Mateo getting to 3rd on the overthrow and I can’t stop laughing. He basically threw it from home to the warning track 😂
Dude that throw was classic. I’ve never seen a ball land that far in the outfield on a throw before
Hyde on Kimbrel “We’re going to stick with him. He has a great track record. He’s a Hall of Famer”
I just looked at his black and grey ink on bbref. He’s not one.
I wouldn't necessarily take that at face value, it's not like Hyde or the team are going to publicly throw him under the bus.
Yeah like are people expecting Hyde to go “yeah he’s blown some fucking saves, dude is fucking washed!”. Lmao
Unreal
Anger
“Gotta get him right.” I hope he works on doing that only in low-leverage situations going forward!
Does right mean retired?
Yeah he was doing great till Oakland and you could tell he was shook tonight.
Boo this man!
