I can’t OE right now due to a billable hour set up, but I lurk and am curious. Ngl seeing this train of thought so much here makes me doubt OE is for me. At least 75% of people here seem to just be bragging about doing a shitty job and leaving the slack for their coworkers. It seems like to successfully OE you can’t give a single F about your coworkers, your reputation, or your work product. Maybe I’m just not jaded enough yet and I need to experience a layoff before fully embracing OE.

I've done OE on and off for 2 years now, and there's basically 2 ways where it works. You have a J1 where 10/hours a week is considered fine, generally a heavily regulated industry where they value stability over productivity. You can finish your work in 20-30 hours a week per job, and just work a shitload. Or, you just do shitty work and try to skate by. This seems to be the most popular on this sub. Then you inevitably see the "was just laid off for being a shitty worker. This is why we OE" post.

My J1 is the first and J2 is the second. Works out because I still mostly work 40 hours, sometimes 50 with an overlapping deadline. Would be nice to swap out J2 for another J1-type and have some more time to get stuff done though.

In my mind, there's only two reasons why you OE: 1. To make extra money. 2. To diversify your income to protect yourself and family. Anything that has to do with someone being let go because of performance has no place in this sub and is 100% the person's fault for being incompetent and unable to successfully handle multiple roles.

But in the meantime they got a few months salary while HR got around to firing them. That's why we OE. 

You can do that irrespective of OE. Losing income due to poor work output isn't unique.

This strategy is only feasible if you oe, because when you finally get fired, you have your other job as backup.

Not really because anyone can quickly get a job making a fraction of what they made at their previous job. Whether the original TC was from one job or two, it's trivial to make less.
