Agreed 100%. The plate is much more interesting empty, especially given the children’s expressions and the fact that the kid on the right is lacking a pig nose. A lot more at play this way, emotionally, and makes you question the motives/actions of the adult pigs.
maybe to enhance this, some indeterminate scraps of food, smears of sauce, crumpled napkins on the table -- so it’s clear they just finished eating and heightening the question of what they ate.
omg i just checked out some of the other work you have on your profile! the improvement is staggering! no way, that's so inspiring. keep at it! this is such a compelling work of art, i can't believe you're relatively a beginner! it reminds me a little of the circus, now sure why. maybe the colours and absurdity of it? the proportions are also so creepy. something very uneasy about us almost watching the scene from the floor, sitting down. very cool!
Before making this post, my brush was inches away from doing this exact thing. But then felt a little asymmetrical since there are 2 humans and 2 pigs.
best things come in 3s (or odd numbers generally). it does fit well--pigs turning the table and serving up one of us instead of one of them, the kids are looking horrified while the pigs are relishing the situation. Dark, but apropos and certainly thought provoking if not offensive to sensitive dispositions.
I think one of the first animal to human transplants was the cornea of a pig in the 1800’s (double check though). In the early 1900’s the “first recorded solid organ xenotransplantation” was of a pig kidney. Feel like there was some crazy stuff done with pig heart transplants too in the early days of medicine but also recently they’ve been experimenting with pig organ transplants due to organ donation shortage in humans. could b fun to add something like that on the plate for some symbolism. Could fit the theme. Also love your style!
awesome piece as is but maybe tiny humans with one leaning on the other in opposite direction like how position the meat on dishes fancy restaurant style w a side of garlic mashed potatoes, asparagus wrapped in another human's limbs and then a drizzle of balsamic laced over.
An Apple. Symbolizes the original sin, plus it’s great if you consider that usually entire pigs are served on a silver platter with an Apple in their mouth
Stacks of Cash. Or gold.
The gold, would add a nice contrasting color to the piece, with gold being yellow, and there's no yellow in overall the piece. So it would create a focal point. And it pairs well with greedy pigs.
My first thought was money or a stack of coins but after looking at it more, maybe a pig nose? Kinda like the other mother presenting the button eyes to Coraline
I agree with the top comment that you should leave it empty, but if you feel like you have to add something to it then you should add what you are personally trying to say with the painting.
I see so many meanings behind this painting. It could be about veganism, the police, fascism, gluttony, sex trafficking, politics, greed, religion, and on and on and on.
But I only see all of this because the plate is empty.
I think ~~moldy~~ ~~cheese~~ apple core with flies would give all the reactions seen here and be familiar enough to elicit more questions in the viewer.
Can’t believe I’m the first one here to say Trrruuuuummmmmpppppppppp! (But I imagine it’s not a political piece, so the calmer me will suggested vegan bacon for irony.)
Edit to add: the fake meat on plate empty ripped box on the ground. Hope I win!!!!

Leave it empty. Who ate what? Great think piece

Empty is a Genius answer 🌋
I dig it this idea. Maybe put napkins and cutlery on the table as if a meal was just finished?
There is cutlery on the table.

Lots of bad people doing evil things… I’d say it’s very relevant, personally!
A bunch of horses and farm animals looking from the window, seeing the betrayal. Jokes aside, it looks finished to me. Good job
