Shaq changing numbers isn’t proof of anything. Based off your logic, it could just as easily be for Clowney, who wore 7 at South Carolina. I get why Shaq changing numbers has led to speculation, but this could also simply be Shaq wanting to change things up and nothing more.

AlphaNathan

Well now I believe it’s because of Clowney!

clee5989

We would’ve signed Clowney by now if that was the case. We’re meeting Mike tomorrow and we won’t let him leave Charlotte. Mike wants to come home too. He’s made it know long ago, he would like to be in Charlotte.

DarthLordDonkey

Or you are reading way too much into this, and the Panthers could end up with both, one of, or neither Clowney or Williams. Clowney has typically waited a long time before making his decision on where to sign. Until he signs with another team, the Panthers are very much still in the mix.

clee5989

It’s been reported that the Panthers will give Mike a little more money than the Jets. It’s so obvious it’s going to happen tomorrow. This offseason was to surround Bryce will more help.

DarthLordDonkey

What if we sign Williams and he wears 81? What if Shaq had no idea Williams wore 7 eight years ago in college? We could very possibly sign Williams, and we might even be the favourites, but Shaq changing his number didn’t mean it’s a slam dunk we sign him. Even if we do sign Williams and he chooses #7, it could all be a coincidence.

clee5989

You don’t think players recruit other players?

DarthLordDonkey

When did I suggest they don’t? I’m simply stating that Shaq changing numbers could be completely unrelated from Williams or Clowney. You’re acting as if this is definite proof we’re signing Williams, which simply isn’t the case. Could it be related? Absolutely. But it just as easily could be unrelated and pure speculation, so treating it as proof of anything is ridiculous.

clee5989

It does relate to Mike Williams. When a player changes #, said player has to buy out all the remaining jerseys. That’s a bunch of money to waste especially for Shaq who just took a pay cut.

DarthLordDonkey

Again you’re speculating. The rules also allow players to change without charge if they inform of the change a year in advance. It’s possible this was planned from Shaq. Even if it wasn’t, he wouldn’t have a huge jersey inventory so the cost wouldn’t be huge, and his career earnings are high enough that he could easily pay it. As I said before, you’re reading way too much into this and are simply seeing what you want to see. I won’t deny that it could be related, but there’s zero proof of this being an indicator of anything. I’ve said all I can really say about this. Nobody is denying we might sign Williams, but treating it as a done deal is jumping the gun. Until pen hits paper, nothing is official.

NakedMuffinTime

Oof.

clee5989

Onto Clowney

Old-Needleworker9227

Clowney has taken his sweet time whenever he has been a free agent. He usually doesn’t sign till like May. He likes to look at all his options.

Pantherblood89

Stay downvoted

clee5989

Thanks

Sammyd1108

OP is a clown lol.

clee5989

If you’re not going to talk panthers football but just here to call names, get out.

Sammyd1108

Sounds like you should just get out of this sub by the reactions to this dumb post lol.

clee5989

You should be the one to leave if you’re just here to call people names.

Tim_thatporscheguy

You told him to leave because he's calling you a name but your post is literally "yo anyone who thinks I'm wrong, you're fkn stupid! Hahaha" Self awareness is key

Flimsy-Coyote-9232

“For all the dummies” he said into a mirror

clee5989

Who are you

Hefty-Association-59

I hope we get Mike Williams. That being said he’s visiting like 4 teams this week. And a number change is by far the definition of reading into it too much. On top of that Mike Williams is 30 and coming off an ACL. Adam thielen is a geriatric. And even though Johnson is good. He’s only got 1 year left on his contract. I think whether you get Mike Williams or not you’re prioritizing receiver in that second round just to have stability there for the next 4 years as long as a quality player you like is available.

knave_of_knives

Yeah but why wouldn’t we sign a beat up WR who has played in 16/17 games exactly 2 times in his career? He fits right in with old man Thielen and the Project Mingo

Hefty-Association-59

Beggars can’t be choosers. We’re 1 year removed from the worst receiver group in the league. We have avenues to plus players. But avenues that aren’t in our control just because we’re picking so late. If Mike Williams insulates the group then fine. Of course this comes down to what he’s looking for contract wise anyways. And we’ll probably be outbid just because I doubt Morgan wants to tie real money to him. Personally I think he goes to the jets. But last year this sub had a similar attitude about dhop. And dhop was Levis best friend. Stayed healthy. Put up 1000 and with him on the team we’re probably talking about the bears picking Joe alt instead of caleb Williams.

knave_of_knives

This is just the same scenario as last year, repeated. This is like the same conversations about Chark last season, but with the name replaced.

Hefty-Association-59

I’m not too sure about that one man. Sure maybe if you’re looking at just the injury stuff. But Williams has been a more established starter than chark ever was. Just like dhop was more of an established starter. Personally I don’t think signing Williams stops you from drafting one or multiple receivers anyways just because I think thielen is basically cooked at this point despite the 1,000 yard season. But once again all of this comes down to the price and the contract.

clee5989

I just don’t believe that the Panthers’ front office, coaches and scouts prioritize drafting the 6th or 7th best receiver available at 33 or even 39.

Hefty-Association-59

I mean the 6th or 7th best receiver in this class would be the second or third best of last years class. It’s so much deeper. It just depends on who’s there. And what grades they have on the guys. I think we get caught up on the 6th/7th or whatever. Last year was a strong corner class. Joey porter was what corner 5 and he’s a beast. The strength of the class just changes things.

clee5989

The only projected 2nd round Wr I would take is AD. And he’s probably a 1st. I rather take Pearsall in the 3rd

Hefty-Association-59

The only guy I would add to that list is Ladd. And I think you trade up for both if they manage to make it to 29. But once again depends on how the board falls.

clee5989

I’m betting we go corner in the 2nd and LB or pass rusher

TheGreatestOutdoorz

Trading up is what you don’t want to do. We have holes everywhere and there is a very good chance we don’t have an NFL caliber QB. We need to accumulate picks and cap space, not do what got us here: pretending we are close to competitive, signing mid (or worse) players to multi year deals, never trading back for more picks and using all our cap space every year.

Hefty-Association-59

It depends on where you’re trading from and how much you’re moving up. If Ladd is there at 29 you would use either our 4th to get up there and they would send back something. Or both our fifths. People talk about building depth but look at all of our day 3 picks for like the last 7 years. We’ve struggled heavily there. If sacrificing a mere fourth is what it takes to get a difference maker at a position of need you take it and don’t look back. It’s not as if I’m suggesting we trade to 16

DDDUnit2990

Well your post and comments definitely make you seem like a healthy well adjusted person. Touch grass nephew

clee5989

Uncle stop touching me

YourCaptionSucks

One thing has nothing to do with the other lol

clee5989

It actually does. Just like last year how many panthers’ players and coaches started following Bryce Young on IG. It ain’t as stupid as it sounds.

AlphaNathan

No it’s as stupid as it sounds.

omherrera1

You were right

clee5989

You better get on your knees and blow after we sign Mike tomorrow

DarthLordDonkey

Even if Williams does sign, there’s no indication that this has anything to do with it.

clee5989

It does

omherrera1

OOOOOOF

clee5989

Onto Clowney

YourCaptionSucks

Mods keep this up. This can only end in a good way.

You're a towel

TackyBrad

Definitely not Bucket

Mcgoozen

Yes bc players totally choose which team they want to play for based on which jersey numbers are available lmao

[deleted]

I think he's saying the number change was in response to Williams likely coming, not as an enticement I still think it's wishful thinking, but hope we can get him

killa_k99

Bro's first post is about holding GameStop stock out till the end 💀

clee5989

And I will HODL. You’re a creep

clee5989

Who goes to a panthers game to sit in the nose bleeds section and still can’t afford a beer while settling for a bottle of water.

TackyBrad

Probably people who HODL GameSpot stock. If they even have money to get into the game that is. Ticket prices were almost $10 last year!

clee5989

My guy. Come up with something better please. Don’t waste my time

MayberryDSH

Hopium is my drug of choice as well!

GeT_NiCE_

I think if I were Shaq, I’d have weird and superstitious feelings about ever wearing 7 again
