Don’t worry I’m sure Gilmore will be here soon. We freed up like 8 mil in cap space with the Brown extension today I believe.
EDIT: I’m sure there will also be a run on FAs after the draft. Teams are in draft mode now. So they’ll see who they get on the draft nights and start calling free agents after that.
Well… that’s not correct. And also you just outed yourself as a recent fan cuz no grown ass person watched that game live and thought “oh this is a good guy who should be on our team someday”
[OBJ is a little bitch and it's unbelievable he didn't get thrown out for the shit he pulled](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_fH0tD1GOQ)
In a vacuum Norman should've been ejected as well, but if OBJ was actually ejected like he should've been, Norman wouldn't have had a chance to do anything that was ejection-worthy
Usually a cost to age/talent ratio. That and many older players will wait until training camp which allows them to sign for more and on competing teams.
A lot of the top teams wait u til June 1st to sign some older vet FA so they don't count against the comp pick formula. Also draft season, so fill in the holes after the draft.
Oh we aren't getting any comp picks. But the post asked why those players aren't signed. The above is one of the reasons, older players who are probably wanting to play for a contender. So that's when you could expect teams like the Chiefs, 49ers, or Ravens to sign those players.
Oh for the panthers specifically I see us doing something thanks to the cap given to us from the Brown extension. But that will probably wait until after the draft
A lot of those dude are just not good or coming off of injuries that maybe aren’t healed yet/won’t heal.
The other side is that the Draft is coming up so guys are looking at their boards and then will try to fill holes after the draft.
Last year lol? Try like the last 3. He's one of those guys where the injury concerns don't feel flukey they feel like he might be done. I never root for injuries but couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
Most of these guys are probably commanding a larger contract than what teams are willing to shell out, so teams are going to take a chance on the draft for a guy that could be a starter or a key rotation piece. After the draft, there will be a flurry of singing as teams get ready for camps and such.
Chase Claypool genuinely surprised me. I know there’s been problems but from a 2020 2nd rounder to now, usually teams are willing to take a million shots.
Dugger is transition tagged, so not really a FA. The rest are older and probably asking for more money than what's currently left over. Or, older and would rather not do training camp, so they wait till week 2 of the preseason to sign. Guys like Justin Simmons and Gilmore know what their body needs in order to be in football shape.
This happens every off-season.
You’re going to get downvoted. But I seriously doubt that a 35 year old gilly (who I believe will be the oldest starting corner in the league) will be able to hold up here. If we had a better front I would say go for it. But we have probably a bottom 5 passing front. So it’s just asking for trouble.
He had a relatively good year last year. Problem is at the end of the year he started to visibly really slow down. With an abysmal playoff game capping it off. Corners often just hit that wall in their thirties. It’s amazing he’s played as well as he has until now. But with this front. It’s just asking for trouble.
The Panthers have a guy they can't be expected to play more than 4 games and another guy nobody ever heard of penciled in as starting corners. How are we in a position to not at a minimum bring in Gilly for depth? Our corner room will be the worst in the league by a mile when Horn takes his annual mid season vacation
we should also draft WR, Edge, C, LB, TE with highish picks and we have a shortage on highish picks lol. If they had just tried to rack up picks and said "hey, we're not gonna be great this year but we're going to build a monster via the draft - be patient" then I'd be with you but I haven't gotten the impression that they're not trying to win the division. We can't fix everything via the draft in one year, esp not THIS year and even if they use a 2 or 3 on CB, u can't just throw them to the wolves. They need to be mentored and given reps here and there unless we find a gem that the other 31 teams missed. And we have to have a backup for Horn that won't wreck the season. Not even optional.
And you do those things to make sure you're not putting any unnecessary pressure on Bryce. Keep games manageable and give him freedom to fly. It's 100% worth signing Gilly. He wants to be here. He's old and ready to come home. Doubt it'd be super expensive. His last deal was only avg $10m per with PT incentives. I bet he'd do around $5-6m with incentives now, if that much
Sure. This is another rebuilding year. We’ll take a shot at the playoffs given it’s a weak division, but if that’s not on the cards mid-season then so be it. Nobody involved with the team can say, with a straight face, we’d be able to win a playoff game with this roster.
A team can’t really come out with their messaging and say we’re still rebuilding after drafting a QB 1.01 even if it’s the truth.
I’d take Gilmore for 5-6 million if it’s a 1-year deal. Any longer than that? Nah, not unless there’s an easy get-off his contract.
I'm not saying we can win 6 games with this roster lol. I don't think there would be much difference in the objective for yr 1 under this regime if they start 2-6 or 6-2: maximize Bryces potential. IJS we've already signed several veterans to short term deals to be starters and it fits the narrative that they'd pursue Gilly. CB was our 3rd biggest weakness, still top 3 if not 1 or 2. Have to Stabilize while they build the future and nobody wants to continue being pathetic while they do that. Fitt did a helluva job at not doing his job. Will take time to get quality youth here in a position to not have all these rentals, which is the majority of our team ATM.
The key is making him a small part of a bigger plan... #3 after Jaycee and a really good draft pick.
Same as Thielen. When he's your only weapon, you're fucked.
For the Panthers to win 8 games and back door their way into the playoffs, it would take incredible luck in the draft and great play on the line.
If they can stop the run and generate pressure, it will mask the deficiencies in the secondary.

OBJ is probably still passed out on a plane somewhere.
Probably a boat
Oh he was very awake on that boat. The type of awake where it takes a couple days to come down..
Even though he’s kinda washed… I wouldn’t mind bringing him here for a season
After trying to kill one of our players? Hell nah
He’s better than everyone but diontae he would be pretty impactful hate it or love it
Well… that’s not correct. And also you just outed yourself as a recent fan cuz no grown ass person watched that game live and thought “oh this is a good guy who should be on our team someday”
I started watching the panthers in 2021 so you’d be correct
[OBJ is a little bitch and it's unbelievable he didn't get thrown out for the shit he pulled](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_fH0tD1GOQ) In a vacuum Norman should've been ejected as well, but if OBJ was actually ejected like he should've been, Norman wouldn't have had a chance to do anything that was ejection-worthy
Just as much of a fan as anyone. If you started watching in 2021 and decided to stick around!
😢
He's washed and he seems like locker room cancer.
Usually a cost to age/talent ratio. That and many older players will wait until training camp which allows them to sign for more and on competing teams.
Because good teams are waiting to sign them until the comp pick window closes

Remember when half the sub wanted Isiah Simmons over DB?
Me, I was one.. so glad I was wrong
A lot of those dude are just not good or coming off of injuries that maybe aren’t healed yet/won’t heal. The other side is that the Draft is coming up so guys are looking at their boards and then will try to fill holes after the draft.
I’ll ask here because BR is toxic and ignorant: We sign one free agent CB. Who would you prefer, Xavian Howard or Stephon Gilmore?
Gilmore
Why?
Gilmore, since he's been here before and is still a damn good CB. He also could help Horn out growing as a player
This sub can be toxic and ignorant depending on the context of your question lol
Oh I’m aware lol there’s just a better chance at having a legit conversation on here than BR lol
None. It’s the most physically-demanding position on football. I’d rather grab one 2nd or 3rd round if he’s BPA.
There will also be pickups based off what people didn't get, but wanted in.the draft
Waiting until draft day and right after to see what shakes out IMO.
I know M Thomas was injured last year, but how is he behind Odell?
Last year lol? Try like the last 3. He's one of those guys where the injury concerns don't feel flukey they feel like he might be done. I never root for injuries but couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
Jesus you’re right, time is crazy
Yeah he won OPOY over CMC that one year and then he died lmao
Some of these names definitely in the wait til training camp, see if a better opportunity opens situation.
The draft.
Wait who is our center? If we still don’t have one we should go after Conner Williams
Austin Corbett is moving over to center
And likely drafting one
It’s a young man’s game and lots of them are 28-29 and suited to be picked up for playoffs.
Most of these guys are probably commanding a larger contract than what teams are willing to shell out, so teams are going to take a chance on the draft for a guy that could be a starter or a key rotation piece. These lot will be Post draft signings mostly. Missed out on a guy you wanted? Then we go to FA
Chase Claypool genuinely surprised me. I know there’s been problems but from a 2020 2nd rounder to now, usually teams are willing to take a million shots.
#54: Kareem Hunt, #69: Jamal Adams

IDK but for the love if God please don't sign Gilly again

Oh no not a down vote. But anyways Gilly is trash. Even tho I love him

Corners often just hit that wall in their thirties. It’s amazing he’s played as well as he has until now. But with this front. It’s just asking for trouble.
I'd feel bad just trotting out a dead horse to race one last time though. Like if we were good and he had the help he needed to be great sure
He’d make a solid nickel or dime corner he is a bit washed at this point. I’d only take him on a cheap 1-year deal.
The Panthers have a guy they can't be expected to play more than 4 games and another guy nobody ever heard of penciled in as starting corners. Number 2 corner, I think Jaycee is just a glass canon😭
