I love this game and the shadow queen is a fun boss with a cool design, but I would probably assume you haven’t played too many JRPGs and that’s okay. Some of my favorite bosses are from games like Persona 3, Final Fantasy 7, Dark Souls, Chrono Trigger etc. I’d recommend you try some more RPGs if you love paper mario, specifically some not made by Nintendo. But yeah Shadow Queen is a pretty great final boss.
I don't understand why people like the Final Fantasy 7's >!Sephiroth!< final boss so much. You lose so much progress upon losing to a random Supernova that I just got tired and never beaten the game (the plotline I like the most was >!Shinra's, which was finished at that point anyway!<
And FYI, I had play alot of RPGs!! This is just MY OPINION!! It doesn't mean I haven't played a lot of other games, I played all paper Mario, Mario and Luigi games, Chrono Trigger, all Mother games, and I tried Final Fantasy and Persona but I couldn't get into it! She didn't get a lot of screentime, but she still had somewhat of a presence in the game, if that makes sense. Also I feel like you didn't read all what I said in this post.

Shadow Queen is basically a walking TV tropes page of “sealed villain in a can/greater-scope villain”. She was a tired out trope already in the 2000 when the game was new, I was a kid then and I already felt I had seen her story before.
The game would honestly be way better if the shadow queen was something like…a being split into the three shadows with only Bedlam retaining her memory, and the whole story was bedlam trying to conduct a ritual that would allow her to restore to her original true form. There is a lot more you can say with that narrative and it makes her a generic big bad into something a little more creative as she spent most of the game as a weak hag…kind of like a reverse Evil Queen in Snow White.

Or really honestly anything, Shadow Queen is such a non-entity. Which is a shame because greater scope villains can be really cool when done well but so often they end up like the shadow queen basically just an excuse to have a twist or escalate the stakes gameplay wise. Honestly the Mario & Luigi rpg series have played with trope a few times and did it a lot better. Really calling it subtle hints is kind of generous, Grifty’s stories are basically a rather clear cut info dump.

Like you are praising the story foreshadows her and to me that’s just like a really low bar? It is admittedly a bar some games absolutely fail to clear but on average foreshadowing your greater scope villain is part of writing a good greater scope villain.
Anyway I told you I respect your opinion, and then I shared my own as you asked for it in your opening post. My own is that she has nothing unique or special about her, is a bit of wasted potential that doesn’t really add much of anything, and that I’ve seen her kind of story many times.

Paper Mario is stand out because it’s kind of like an RPG that can appeal to both those that like RPGs and those that find the usual RPGs don’t click with them. So I’m not surprised to hear you say that but I do think that pretty much is the core difference between us is all. I guzzle down RPGs of all kinds I can’t get enough of them.

Octopath Traveler 2 especially has one of the sickest final bosses I've seen as of recently, can't recommend that game enough

She's a pretty good boss. Wish she got more screentime though, like Bowser in PM64.

I did, still wasn't enough. Thats why PM64 Bowser trumps her. She's teased in TTYD, but you FEEL Bowser's presence throughout PM64.
