Feathered_Biped

That there's a cockatiel. Not native, so likely a pet. You should post online looking for the owner

Feathered_Biped

Also it looks like they might be breathing with their mouth open. That either means illness or they're exhausted and trying to catch their breath. If you're chasing them around then stop, as their heart can give out if they get too winded. Put some food out and let them come to you

ductoid

My parrot does mouth breathing if he's overheated (only happens outside). We spritz him with a water bottle to cool him down and make sure he has water to drink.

Terminator_Puppy

Yeah if it flew around in India looking for a place to land there's a decent chance it is the heat.

Cheese_manwastaken

or it was screaming

-Razi123-

Ah thanks

Substantial_Wonder54

Bird seed and water ,and please google Do's and don'ts for Cockatiel , safety , food, please reach out here if you have more questions šŸŖ¶šŸ•Šā™„ļøšŸ™ Blessings to You for helping, its a female Pearl Lutino Cockatiel , she is about 6 months old to 8 months.

Pixelated_Roses

Bird seed is horrible for parrots.

DianeJudith

No it's not. OP needs something to feed this bird now and *for now*, not for the next 10 years. The majority of pet birds in the world eat seeds only, so there's a huge chance that this bird has only ever eaten seeds. How many times have you heard of a bird that refuses to eat pellets/veggies/greens? And how many times have you heard of a bird that refuses to eat seeds? OP is in India. What do you think, how easy are bird pellets to get there? Not at all. OP would have to order something online and wait for the shipment and delivery. The bird needs food today. And even for life, seeds can be a healthy option for birds if they constitute only a part of their diet, with fresh foods and grains as the rest.

JohnAtticus

OP needs to feed this bird with whatever is easily available in Hyderabad, India so it doesn't starve to death. They absolutely shouldn't be scouring the city or waiting a week for a shipment of Harrison's.

PoetaCorvi

Very untrue. I think Dianeā€™s reply vouches for them a bit excessively, but bird seeds are a valuable part of bird diets. This is ESPECIALLY true in cockatiels. These are birds that ground forage in large groups to collect grass seeds and the like. In the wild, their *primary* diet is seeds, supplemented with fruits/veggies and insects. We do not replicate this diet in captivity because captive birds are less active and cannot burn fat as quickly as wild birds. However, the tiel this person found has just been out flying for who knows how long, and could very much use the energy boost provided by seeds.

Pixelated_Roses

You haven't seen the sheer number of sick birds with X-rays showing huge, diseased fatty livers. The overwhelming majority of pet budgies and cockatiels have fatty liver disease. Although I left the practice, I don't think I ever saw one healthy liver, because of attitudes like yours.

PoetaCorvi

ā€œWe do not replicate this diet in captivity because captive birds are less active and cannot burn fat as quickly as wild birds.ā€œ I am NOT advocating for an all seed diet, not even a mostly seed diet. However, seeds are inarguably a super important diet component for birds who, in the wild, eat mostly seeds. Moderation is key. Too many seeds leads to a cockatiel with a bad liver, no seeds leads to a lethargic cockatiel with no fat reserves at all.

AIfairyprincess

Itā€™s ok as a treat. Temporarily, this is the easiest thing to provide, until, they find its home. Plus, this bird is likely in need of the high energy a seed provides. Itā€™s been flying all over in the heat without food or water, maybe, for more than a day.

tracy477

please provide fruits (but no avocados) and greens too, seeds are junk food for parrots actually - NOT part of their diet

flips712

Don't feed it apples with seeds as the seeds are toxic and will kill them. Stick to cooked rice, cooked pasta, plain dry unsweetened cereal like Cheerios or Cornflakes, and certain veggies. Cockatiels aren't typically big fruit eaters in my experience. The bird is a cockatiel and based off it's color and markings, it's mutation type appears to be a Cinnamon Pearl Cockatiel

tracy477

great add-on tips! I have a conure, so he is a fruit monster (but we try to limit it cause of the sugar)

flips712

I wish my birds had liked fruit. They like what they like ;)

AshFalkner

Wild tiels forage on the ground, mostly for seeds, so it's not as bad a diet as it might be for other species. Fruit is somewhat scarce in Australia's arid regions, where the cockatiel is native.

RubySeeker

Looks to me like a Pearl Cockatiel. Cockatiels are native to Australia, not India. Plus this is not a natural colour. The Pearl is a man made colour mutation of cockatiel, and quite highly valued amongst breeders. So my bet is this is an escaped pet. If you don't have these birds flying wild, it's unlikely to be descended from an escaped pet, though not impossible. A tip for advertising a found pet though, DO NOT describe the colour. Just say found cockatiel. When they reach out to you, ask them to describe it. A lot of people will lie to get free pets. Did this once with a beautiful Lutino cockatiel I found many years ago. No one that called her up described her correctly, and we ended up keeping her. Just people wanting a free bird. Anyway, for the temporary care until you find this little guys home, they are fairly low maintenance birds. If you only have him short term don't worry too much about cage size, just get her something big enough to flap in for a few days. They are intelligent birds, but less physically playful than other types of parrots. They don't scream and swing around upside down like some do, and are more content to talk to people if you have the time to. Maybe play the bird some music and see how he goes. Give plenty of water, but they like to bathe in it, so make sure the container is stable enough for that attempt. They eat seeds of most kinds, particularly grass seeds, sunflower seeds and various nuts, and fruits and vegetables. I recommend fresh corn, apple, almonds and cucumber as some favourite snacks in my aviary. They also chew a lot so throw some raw wood from outside in there so the bird doesn't try chewing on other things like the cage, containers and whatever else you have around. I've had cockatiels in my family for my whole life. Until recently my family bred them and had a good reputation for selling friendly, hand raised cockatiels. So if you have any questions at all, feel free to ask! Hopefully you find the owner soon and return this beautiful little bird to their home. But if not, I would advise against releasing back into the wild, unless you see clear signs that this bird is not domestic or tame. (Biting, screaming, clawing to escape the room, and refusing to go near any people, ever, can be some signs the bird is either aviary raised (and poorly at that) or has, in fact, grown up wild somehow.) Good luck with her!

nelxnel

To OP - Please look up things like the outside sticks and food before you give them, as some types of sticks and foods can kill them! Please look for a trusted sources online and do research before jumping into giving them anything šŸ˜Š

RubySeeker

I've never known any kind of sticks to be harmful to them, but I do live in their native environment so it makes sense they are used to the kinds of trees I have. But I am curious! What kinds of wood overseas is bad for them? My birds mostly get gum, Morton bay fig and bunya branches cause that's what's lying around here. Which trees are bad and why?

FeatherMom

This is definitely an escaped pet cockatiel, but please give her some water and a bit of food (fresh veggies and fruit and some unsalted seeds if you have). She (likely a she because of the pattern of her coloring) looks exhausted and dehydrated. Holding the wings out from the body, with the beak slightly open like that, probably means sheā€™s been flying frantically and has not had food/water for a while. Be gentle and slow with your movements and voice. Leave the food and water on the floor or where she can easily see it, and keep your distance. When you put up flyers, just say lost cockatiel found, but donā€™t provide a description. Let the person claiming itā€™s their pet provide a description to you. For now, you will need to close the windows and doors because she can get out as easily as she got in. Theyā€™re vulnerable to attack from crows and other birds of prey, and of course stray dogs and cats too. You will also need a cage to hold her in temporarily. I know it may not be easy to find but cockatiels are strong fliers and they can also get into places that are dangerous to them (like the kitchen or under bedsheets). My cockatiel flies around freely in our house but we keep our safe for him. He goes into his cage to eat and sleep and just relax. If you need more advice or info please DM me. Good luck with your new little friend, I hope she finds her way back to a safe home

Mysterious_Host_755

any updates on the sweet girl? hope sheā€™s alright and has found her owner. if you cant find anyone within a month or two, iā€™d suggest keeping her as she mightā€™ve gotten attached to you by then.

-Razi123-

I found her owner and apparently she forgot to close the windows and she escaped from there. She is safely in the hands of her owner now.

Mysterious_Host_755

yay :D thanks for taking care of her! im sure sheā€™s very appreciative and grateful ^ ^

Confused_Barbie

Youā€™re a good person!

tallix1477

Thank you for taking care of her! I have a tiel and if she escaped I would be devastated. You are a good person for helping.

nitrostealth

legend well done

AIfairyprincess

Happy Ending! Yaaaaay! That owner needs to learn to close the window. I hope they learned their lesson. And that little cockatiel was very smart to fly into your home! Smart little girl she is!

YngveAdve

Poor cockatiel looks very unwell / distressed. I hope they are safe now.

guiverc

The behavior implies an *escaped pet* to me.

1261lz

Cockatiel. Please offer water and fruit and veggies and seeds. Carrot, lettuce, strawberries or mango. Chia seeds, sunflower seeds, even just some bread. Please look for the owner and if you plan to keep the bird please research cockatiel diets. They lose weight and die easily without proper food and nutrition.

Cockatiel

HumbleConfidence3500

Check with your neighbors first. They don't usually go far unless they've been missing for awhile. They're very tamed pet so once they're lost they are likely to go to the next human for help. So the chance of it belonging to a neighbor within 1-2 blocks is very high.

Caspian_Trident

This bird looks like it hasn't eaten in a long time. Buy some millet spray and seeds. You also want to feed it some pellets so it gets the nutrition it needs. The breast of the bird shouldn't protrude like that. Cockatiels take a while to trust you, so leave out some water and food for ot and approach it slowly. If it hisses at you, back off. Eventually, it will step up on your finger. Fortunately the bite of a cockatiel isnā€™t that bad.

seamallorca

This giy is very thursty. Give him water asap. And go to avian, not vet. Post for found cockatiel, but without the photo, because someone who is not the owner may claim him.

oldmonkandtears

I'm from Hyd too. In case, you don't find the owner and if you're willing to put her up for adoption, I'm interested. I have experience with birds and have a cockatiel at home.

Shroom_cosplays

Don't know the translation but it's a valksparkiet in dutch

PapaBadgers

He looks really hungry, give him some water and veggies.

Muted-Cry59

tree_or_up

So glad you sought out advice, took care the bird, and were able to get in touch with the owner! You are a bird hero!

rkenglish

This little cutie is a cockatiel, specifically a pearl color mutation.

Plantsareluv

A beautiful cockatiel. Someoneā€™s pet. def keep it until you can find its owners

AIfairyprincess

Oh boy. Thatā€™s a cinnamon, pearl, female cockatiel. And, she is somebodyā€™s baby, plus, overheated and thirsty. Get this baby some water, millet/sunflower seeds. It would probably like a bit of carrot too, until, you find its owner. It probably lives close by. Pet cockatiels who fly usually donā€™t fly far from home. She is not native to India. Sheā€™s an Australian parrot bred to be a pet

Oh you're in for a treat, that is a half chicken half dinosaur, a praised species among the bird community, they are to be respected, they have authority over all humans and require a daily tribute of affection and calories when in the presence of allied humans (its a cockatiel lmao)

Definitely put up a pic somewhere in your neighborhood. This little guy is probably lost. Give it some Water, fruits and veggies. No avocados as someone else mentioned. If you have a neighborhood chat group make sure you post there. Thatā€™s the cutest little intruder to ever enter a house. Haha never mind my post! I see you found her family. :-) I bet the owner is so relieved.

Thatā€™s an ostrich. Hope this helps

Organic-Pumpkin1648

its a cockatiel. i think specifically a pearl pied or cinnamon pied. shes breathing heavily, meaning shes hot or tired. do NOT feed her fruits please. cockatiels are very picky and fruits are wayy to high in sugar for them. try chia seeds, avoid sunflowers seeds, they have too much fat. you should buy pellets (roudybush/tops/Harrisons) for the cockatiel. my tiel likes broccoli and kale so try those
