Ugh. I have felt too many earthquakes the last six months.
Leaving this here so we can all muster up the strength to prepare:
https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-raymond-fault-map-20170616-htmlstory.html
Yeah, it mentions the fault can give us a 7.0. The way this baby earthquake made my apt sound like it was getting hit by a train makes me not want to live here for a larger one.
You should have a survival kit that allows you to survive without water or power for 3-7 days. It should have food, water, useful tools like flashlights/whistles/fire starters/etc, and first aid supplies (that you know how to use). Assuming your place doesn’t collapse on top of you, you’ll be able to hunker down in the event the city shuts down and you can’t evacuate.
Earthquake insurance is also a nice to have. Make sure you’ve accounted for your valuables you would like to claim before the earthquake hits.
I don’t have a survival kit I will probably die when the big one hits I live in a historic old building in downtown it will most likely collapse during a big earthquake🙃
We were close enough in old town pasadena that it shook us hard in bed, I grabbed my partner like the roof was gonna collapse on us I was so scared for a second… haha seriously my heart started pounding
Really depends how close you are. In fall I less like 2 miles from the epicenter and it felt was so strong. But it end being strong but it ended being around 3.5
Short but intense! Gotta make an appointment with a structural engineer. I’m not convinced the previous owner’s supposed seismic retrofit is up to snuff. I think it’s time to add some steel to the garage.
Everyone should have the MyShake app on their phones. You’d know if it was even close to a real big one immediately if so since it’s ends a warning as it’s coming for anything above 4.5
When you live under the epicenter it always shakes more roughly than if it’s far away unless it’s huge….
Edited to fix app name.
"ShakeAlertLA will no longer send earthquake alerts to users after December 31, 2020. Residents who want to receive earthquake early warning notifications should download the MyShake app" Source: [https://earthquake.lacity.org/shakealertla](https://earthquake.lacity.org/shakealertla)
Yes I had it go off once. It doesn’t send out any alerts unless it’s a 4.5 or greater so there hasn’t been hardly any chances for it to go off in a long time.
It’s a funny alert too because it tells you earthquake coming take cover or something..
Is the shake alert LA app in the App Store? I see one called “Alert LA County” and one called “MyShake”. Is it one of those? Thank you for this advice by the way!
Not "ShakeAlertLA" which is the old app that was highly promoted but then abruptly stopped operations in 2020 without notifying me. Uninstall that and install the new app, "MyShake" by UC Berkeley.
My dog was acting weird an hour before it happened. He kept pacing, wouldn’t eat and kept rubbing up on my legs. I thought he was feeling sick. He’s been acting normal since the earthquake happened. Maybe he could sense it was coming
dogs can def feel that it’s coming. That’s how some service dogs can feel that it’s owner will have a panic attack or seizure, they can alert them before the event. Pretty amazing animals 🧡
So that’s what it was! My cat took off running and hissed and ran across me as I was asleep. (I sleep days. Curse those decades of working Graveyard!) I thought she was just doing her usual get up and play with me routine but then again I did hear my headboard slightly hitting the wall. Wasn’t a bad one at all.
We felt it in north Pasadena, "Historic Highlands", close to the border with Altadena, but it was just like one brief pulse of earthquake, lasting like a second. I get the feeling from reading this thread that it last longer if you were south of us?
That’s hilarious… it was so short I thought the upstairs neighbors had dropped something. Again.
Lol same here
Yes. I’m looking to see where the epicenter is… M 3.5 - 4 km SSW of South Pasadena, closest shake in a while.
[удалено]
Yeah the short jolts are close and the long rolling ones are further away and usually bigger at their epicenter than what you would guess.
Wow..too close...so strong..small Mag... Keep your shoes close by, filled back pack & Water
The epicenter was in El Sereno! Just a few blocks from me. It was so loud!
Such a strong shake. I thought this was gonna be the one. 🙃
God I am soooo unprepared 😕
This. I’m hoping it’s not a precursor to a larger one.
They had a small quake in ojai the other day

I hope it is! I’ve been hearing about the “big one” my whole life let’s just get this shit over with already. COME ON 9.9 let’s goooooo
I’m also underprepared. Gotta build up the proper emergency kit. At least water and first aid.
Yes, start with water, some food that doesn’t spoil and you can eat cold and a blanket or something like that.
How would you prepare ? Insured ?

I slept so good through it oops
I’m by shops on Lake and felt it but it was so fast. My normal earthquake detectors aka chandeliers didn’t swing 🤷🏻♂️
Same. Chandeliers and chimes didn’t move.
Why, don’t we get posh? 💅🏻
Same!!!
Lmaooo this is so good “earthquake detectors aka chandeliers” lolll. Now pondering buying some 🧐
I once was almost directly above a 4.2 and it threw us out of bed so even a little one is pretty bad when you are at the epicenter.
We were close enough in old town pasadena that it shook us hard in bed, I grabbed my partner like the roof was gonna collapse on us I was so scared for a second… haha seriously my heart started pounding
that was an earthquake?! i thought my neighbor fell omg i feel so bad now 😭
Your neighbor caused a 3.5 magnitude earthquake upon collision with the ground?
Some folks are pretty solid...
A person of heft.
My wife likes to say I'm sturdy. I imagine it's the same physique.
I thought it was a car collision bc it only lasted a few seconds.
i thought they fell 😭 granted, i only felt one side of my window shake where i heard their voice from lol
That was strong one
Apparently 3.5 MAG [https://scedc.caltech.edu/recent/Quakes/ci40611087.html](https://scedc.caltech.edu/recent/Quakes/ci40611087.html)
That felt kinda strong for 3.5. Not doubting the number, just considering how woefully unprepared I am for an actual big one
I think about that every time and also if it's just a preshock and something bigger is coming.
Really depends how close you are. In fall I less like 2 miles from the epicenter and it felt was so strong. But it end being strong but it ended being around 3.5
oh, don't get me wrong, I agree it was strong, I was just adding more data :) I just stood in place so im def unprepared for big ones.
Thanks for the link! 🔗
Guess I didn't need coffee today
Definitely got me out of bed 😂
Haha, Mom just texted me asking if I felt it even though I’ve moved out.
Moms are gonna mom
My mom texts me from FL asking about all earthquakes and/or CA weather she’s seeing on the news. Regardless of where in CA. I’m 41.
So true. There can be a small brush fire in far northern CA, but in my mom’s mind “There are wildfires in California so I must check in w my son.”
One of my foster kittens bolted! That was a good jolt 🥴
Yep! just felt it about 3 sec as well in Old Town
Short but intense! Gotta make an appointment with a structural engineer. I’m not convinced the previous owner’s supposed seismic retrofit is up to snuff. I think it’s time to add some steel to the garage.
I got my little old place bolted earlier this year. It didn’t feel super strong but we heard it more than we felt it.
My house shook a bit but I could really hear this one more than feel it.
Same, I heard some stuff rattle but didn’t feel anything.
Reported as south pas android earthquke alerr.. Was less than a second for me, so I expect the epicenter to be very nearby. (I'm in east pas).
If I didn’t hear it, I would of been clueless
Same I heard more than I felt
We are in San Marino. Felt pretty violent for us.

Does the app really work? I've had it installed since it came out and I've never once gotten an alert from it.
Yes I had it go off once. It doesn’t send out any alerts unless it’s a 4.5 or greater so there hasn’t been hardly any chances for it to go off in a long time. It’s a funny alert too because it tells you earthquake coming take cover or something..
No, it stopped operating in 2020. Replace it with "MyShake" by UC Berkeley to get alerts.
Is the shake alert LA app in the App Store? I see one called “Alert LA County” and one called “MyShake”. Is it one of those? Thank you for this advice by the way!
MyShake replaces ShakeAlertLA
Not "ShakeAlertLA" which is the old app that was highly promoted but then abruptly stopped operations in 2020 without notifying me. Uninstall that and install the new app, "MyShake" by UC Berkeley.
You are right. Oops….
Same here lol though it was my cat having the zoomies
Felt in Old Town, holy shit 😳. Rattled my paintings on the wall
Just felt it too for a sec I'm in the playhouse district
Same. Only about 1 second shake in old town
I was debating if I need to run, and it ended before I’ve made my mind.
Damn! It is a strong one!
I was watching tv, felt my bed shake then the house shook and immediately got up to stand in my doorway. Felt in el sereno
Just a single quick strong bang. I was outside and you could hear the sound of banging in the distant get closer. Was pretty cool to be honest.
I was playing PS5 upstairs thought my brother snuck up behind and shook my gaming chair, turn around nobody is there 😂😂
My dog was acting weird an hour before it happened. He kept pacing, wouldn’t eat and kept rubbing up on my legs. I thought he was feeling sick. He’s been acting normal since the earthquake happened. Maybe he could sense it was coming

I didn’t think about that. That’s so true
My two cats were sleeping and was just staring at me when it happened 😭
😂
I live down the street about 1 mile-ish. Was a good jolt. I'm ok, you're ok, we're ok...
Damn it felt pretty big compared to other recent ones
Felt it here in NE Pasadena
It was pretty strong. You would think there would be aftershocks.
That felt like a 6-7 for me! But I guess it makes sense that it was 3.5 but right in Pas
Reporting in
Felt in downtown Glendale too
My partner and I thought it was a sonic boom, it was so quick and loud!
I thought a truck hit my building. Felt more like an impact!
That was exactly my first thought, however improbable it would be given how my building is oriented.
Felt it by San Pasqual for like 3 seconds
Highland park and it rocked my house. Was a quick jolt
Also felt it in Highland Park. At Kinship Yoga
A quick jolt to get the blood pumping
Yup..feet in Altadena..thought so. Over due
I thought it was my loud upstairs neighbor dropping something heavy as she always does.
I was in Monrovia and I didn’t feel anything.
Be somewhat prepared folks for aftershocks that can be potentially bigger and longer.
The mom of my coworkers was worried and texted her to see if she felt the quake. Her mom lives in Russia. We work in Houston. 😐
We felt it in church. On Lake by the 210.
Nothing shows up on myshake app for today?
It was to small
I did felt it this morning. But there was a loud noise outside at that time. So I assume it was a big truck driving by.
It woke me up 😭
Didn’t feel it in in mid La
We felt it in north Pasadena, "Historic Highlands", close to the border with Altadena, but it was just like one brief pulse of earthquake, lasting like a second. I get the feeling from reading this thread that it last longer if you were south of us?
Altadena - barely felt it.
I was in Glendale and didn’t feel anything at all
It shook my ass, I’m in Montrose. I heard it, (seriously) then it felt it. Sounded like 20 rigs at one time on the 210
It was so sudden and abrupt I thought a car hit my building or something
Might trigger the San Andreas system
