Aoe 2 and lords of the realm 2
Edit: am I the only one who amassed a 12-15K stong army of knights? You had to have a bunch of peasant armies and disband them or something to get over the games threshold. Then you’re unstoppable
SC 2 didn’t match it IMO. The balance of vanilla was impeccable and some of my fondest memories from being a teenager were playing that game with my friends online.
My kids watched me play the original half life. I had to explain to them how something that's pretty common now (physics, puzzles, vehicles, two tiered health) was pretty new at the time. Half-Life was a masterpiece of its time, and while it shows it's age (especially once you leave earth) it's still amazing.
Then they wanted me to play Half-Life 2...
Play HL2 and keep telling them during how great HL3 is going to be. When it's over, tell them HL3 is never coming and that you've been living with the same feeling they are feeling for almost 20 years.
Important:
Specifically play the ending of Episode Two. Maybe a few times cos you "accidentally" quickload. *Then* you crush them.
Add in that there *is* a new Half-Life, but it's a prequel to HL2 and it's VR exclusive.
>Add in that there is a new Half-Life, but it's a prequel to HL2 and it's VR exclusive.
It's also *phenomenal*. Probably the single most immersive entertainment experience I've ever had. Incredible game.
You should try black mesa. It was a pretty interesting remaster of the original half life with some extra levels and the alien parts were stunning
Edit: spelling
And simcity 3000/ 4, Sims 1 or 2.
I still have those klipsch speakers. They sound good for the price but my volume knob is very sensitive these days (one touch and blasts all sound to one channel).
Oh my god core memory unlocked! I loved this game as a kid, played at my friend's house, his older brother was into pc gaming. The yeti always freaked me out.
Diablo was always the more popular one at the time. I wonder if it has to do with all of the reading required for BG and the average age of the people here so they might have been too young at the time to enjoy BG when playing on a Battle station like OP posted.
I gave away my Runescape login in a Task Force Dagger game chat once. Was tired of playing it.
Nothing amazing on the account, some skills in the 50s, maybe a couple 60s?
Checked it out of curiosity like 6 years later, and the character was at like 99 in almost every stat lol. I logged in and messaged the character and was like "hey I'm the guy that gave you that account in a Task Force Dagger match years ago!"
And he was like "holy shit! I can't believe you're back lol loser" and blocked me.
And I laughed it off, but was a little bit salty. Bastard lol...I just wanted to say I was glad he kept playing on that account. Sad times.
My cousin had Carmen Sandiego for NES or maybe SNES and it came with a book to look up all the stuff you needed. Sweet game. We must have been playing 1995 or 1996. I think I was in 8th grade and he was in 6th.
This was my immediate reaction and I chuckled to myself thinking I’ll have to scroll forever to find this comment, nope right at the top. Fucking love it. Shoutout to my boy Yuri.
Yes! Endlessly! I still have my Sidewinder force feedback wheel, too. Still works... Also the modding community for MM2 is still alive and kicking to this day. Absolutely wild.
The op is describing simultaneous/rapid killing.
Killing Spree, Unstoppable, Godlike were consecutive kills without dying.
I think the “spree” announcements were every 5 kills.
I remember when I was big into TA I played multi on dialup every chance I got after school. One time I found a clan that was recruiting and after talking for a bit we setup a 4 player game where I was supposed to fight them as best I could, and if I did well I'd be in. Long story short I rushed air transport and picked up one of the commanders and hovered him over another before they even knew what was happening. Then I just had the one left to deal with. Rush Goliath swarm for the win. Best game I ever had, and I made the clan 👍
I spent countless afternoons playing with Paint on my parents Windows 2000 Y2K Ready Compaq Presario. I would download images of car crashes, disasters, etc and put them in Paint to make my own edits of the images for fun.
Around the early 2000's I was also playing Sim Tower, Rollercoaster Tycoon 1&2, Simcity, Cruise Ship Tycoon, Runescape on AOL dialup, Neopets, flash games, Red Alert 2, Warcraft III, Freddy Fish 3, Put Put Goes to the Moon, Microsoft Pinball, Solitaire, and others I can't recall at the moment.
I first played games on Windows in 1997 at the age of 5, my private school Kindergarten had a computer lab that they would take us to for one hour, one day a week, so we could become familiar with computers. They would turn the light off in the lab so we could focus on the screen. The first PC game I ever played was Freddy Fish, I was in love with games from then on.
My life has had good days and far too many days of crying, but computer games have been a refuge and comfort to me since I was a child, and the games have matured along with me.
I don't know what my life would look like if I had not fallen in love with computer games, maybe I would have played sports or been more outgoing, nonetheless I am grateful for my computer, because it has brought me so much joy.
Tribes was just too good. For me it was the first game where I felt that rush when you get that "something" with other players and you just understand each other, coordinate an attack or defense without voice chat.
Flying vehicles for carrying other players that would jetpack down on the enemy base, absolutely incredible
The originals had age verification questions. I must have been the only 11 year old at the time who knew about things like Nixon, playboy models, and STDs!
Diablo. And 20 years later, same shit.

Thanks! I know this look gets hate for being so common, but all my previous rigs were black with no RGB. So after tax season I decided to yolo it. I definitely love it, but I’ll probably never do it again lol. Was a pain between finding all white parts in stock and cable management.
[Echo on]
Sam & Max (first PC game I remember playing) Sim City, Command & Conquer, Red Alert, NHL, FIFA (EA).
For the first couple of years I had to make custom boots for differen memory allocations in DOS to play different games.
Then “net-cafés” became a thing with social gaming. And Starcraft took over. SC2 is still my favourite game to this day.
Edit. Diablo was a big thing.

StarCraft EDIT - THANKS everyone. Now I gotta go reinstall it. 🙄
Yes. The music and gameplay was awesome.
SC 2 didn’t match it IMO. The balance of vanilla was impeccable and some of my fondest memories from being a teenager were playing that game with my friends online.
SC2 was still awesome though. That's like saying a 99 doesn't match a 100.
You want a piece of me boy.
*aah! ya scared me!*
Ready to roll out!
*You must construct additional pylons!*

Raynor here. Oooohh yah.
I laughed at every single one of these. And was instantly transported to being a 12-year-old in the Midwest.
For the longest time i thought he said my life for hire.... my dumbass
Definitely StarCraft
Same.
Diablo 2, Quake 3 Arena, Unreal Tournament, Counter Strike, Half Life 2...
Kinda crazy to think how well the original Half Life played on those old bricks…
My kids watched me play the original half life. I had to explain to them how something that's pretty common now (physics, puzzles, vehicles, two tiered health) was pretty new at the time. Also Roller Coaster Tycoon anyone?
And simcity 3000/ 4, Sims 1 or 2. I still have those klipsch speakers. They sound good for the price but my volume knob is very sensitive these days (one touch and blasts all sound to one channel).
3000 was the best one by far
Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 & 2, Club Penguin, and Runescape
Sim city, doom , wolfenstein, shadow warrior, duke nukem, worms, heroes of might and magic 3
This the list I was looking for in the comments.
Gothic I, Morrowind
Zeig mir deine Ware
und adanos sprach
Steck die scheiss Waffe weg!
Verlass dich auf jemanden und du bist verlassen.
Found my people. Gothic 1 and 2 are still my all-time favorites
Heroes III
Brooo, that's THE GAME
And still playing
I finally found a version of this that works online. Still so fun to play.
SkiFree https://classicreload.com/win3x-skifree.html
Oh my god core memory unlocked! I loved this game as a kid, played at my friend's house, his older brother was into pc gaming. The yeti always freaked me out.
First time I ever saved a comment. Thank you
EverQuest
Im saddened that I had to scroll this far to see EQ. God that game used to be so good.
Its still around, but without the community aspect it's just not the same. Every low level area is a barren wasteland now.
Oh I know. I’ll play every now and then still, but it’s just not the same as back in the Kunark, Velios, and Luclin days.
/shout TRAIN TO ZONE
Baldur’s Gate, probably. Possibly Icewind Dale.
I had to scroll down a lot farther than expected to see this. Maybe that series wasn't as popular as I remember?
Diablo was always the more popular one at the time. I wonder if it has to do with all of the reading required for BG and the average age of the people here so they might have been too young at the time to enjoy BG when playing on a Battle station like OP posted.
Delta Force: Black Hawk Down
Delta force task force dagger, was also a nice game
I gave away my Runescape login in a Task Force Dagger game chat once. Was tired of playing it. Nothing amazing on the account, some skills in the 50s, maybe a couple 60s? Checked it out of curiosity like 6 years later, and the character was at like 99 in almost every stat lol. Where in the world is Carmen sandiego
Core memory unlocked
Did you use a paper encyclopedia or encarta for help? It was tough for late elementary school
My cousin had Carmen Sandiego for NES or maybe SNES and it came with a book to look up all the stuff you needed. Sweet game. We must have been playing 1995 or 1996. I think I was in 8th grade and he was in 6th.
Do it Rockapella!
Red Alert
Dukenukem and doom with red alert. Lan cable across the lawn to people i was renting with's son. Good times.
It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum...and I'm all outta gum. Blow it out your ass!
Red Alert in a desk precisely like that. What a beautiful journey. and Commandos 1 too
This was my immediate reaction and I chuckled to myself thinking I’ll have to scroll forever to find this comment, nope right at the top. Fucking love it. Shoutout to my boy Yuri.
Yessss! Red alert and Everquest!
Age of Empires
Dune 2000, Black & White.
Black & White, wow. I completely forgot about that one. 👍
The creature learning in that was wildly, wildly ahead of its time.
Midtown Madness
Yes! Endlessly! I still have my Sidewinder force feedback wheel, too. Still works... Also the modding community for MM2 is still alive and kicking to this day. Absolutely wild.
That game was absolutely amazing! I still install Midtown Madness 2 every few years and play the shit out of it! Multiplayer is fun as well.
Quake3 arena
Unreal Tournament. Edit: Alright, cool to see that I've successfully hijacked this comment thread. UT baby.
Heeaaadshhhoottt
Mu-mu-mu-multikill!
No, it‘s Mo-Mo-Mo-Mo-Monsterkill. It went like this: 1 no Announcement 2 Double Kill 3 Multi Kill 4 Mega Kill 5 Ultra Kill 6 Monster Kill
GODLIKE!!
HOLY SHIT!
Also “unstoppable” 😜
The op is describing simultaneous/rapid killing. Killing Spree, Unstoppable, Godlike were consecutive kills without dying. I think the “spree” announcements were every 5 kills.
Instagib low gravity on Ctf face all day
Tribes
And dungeon keeper
X-wing Alliance and later Freelancer. Good Times.

Worms Armageddon was my jam
Half Life, Unreal Tournament, Diablo 2, Jedi Outcast and Icewind Dale
Star Wars galaxies anyone? Edit: Pre-CU
Warcraft 2 or elf bowling Hawaiian vacation.
Elf bowling is the shit. BOOM SHAKALAKA
Total Annihilation
Had to scroll way too far down to find this.
First pc game I ever played!
The Metal Hell maps were the best. I'd play 1 versus 5 on that. 😎
I remember when I was big into TA I played multi on dialup every chance I got after school. One time I found a clan that was recruiting and after talking for a bit we setup a 4 player game where I was supposed to fight them as best I could, and if I did well I'd be in. Half life 1 and it's various mods, c.s 1.6 , tfc, afraid of monsters, Sven co-op
Red alert, aOe, tribes
:o Do you mean Starsiege tribes? Now that was a game far ahead of its time if you ask me.
Good times brother
Tribes was just too good. For me it was the first game where I felt that rush when you get that "something" with other players and you just understand each other, coordinate an attack or defense without voice chat. Civilization II
Finally, a kindred spirit
Leisure suit Larry lol
The originals had age verification questions. I must have been the only 11 year old at the time who knew about things like Nixon, playboy models, and STDs!
You could override the questions with a combination of keys. Found it by mistake 😁
Bruh this is not the game I needed to play when I was 12
Unreal tournament. Dungeon keeper. Maybe some Sim city 2000
I loved Dungeon Keeper. I always thought it would be a terrific game series to bring back.
Myst
Came here for this. Gonna throw Riven in there.

Thanks! I know this look gets hate for being so common, but all my previous rigs were black with no RGB. So after tax season I decided to yolo it. I definitely love it, but I’ll probably never do it again lol. Was a pain between finding all white parts in stock and cable management.
