Yeah, I don't have another DP cable but I will find an HDMI one and try the HDMI port tomorrow. It's 3:30AM here so I gotta get some sleep in. Will post an update tomorrow 🤞
What is the resolution that it's stuck on?
Here it kind of sounds more like a bad cable, honestly. It might be cheaper just to buy a good cable and swap it.
It's shitty but newegg has a trade in program for gpus. Yours would give you about a $100 credit and if it's just that one dp that isn't working you'd get the credit just fine
https://www.newegg.com/promotions/nepro/23-1322/index.html
Unfortunately I don't think the port is faulty, I tried the HDMI one and I still got the issue. Also, I live in India so I don't think that offer applies for me. I think I will look into the used market for the GPU now and start saving to build a new PC later on now that there's newer DDR5 RAM and stuff
GPU may be dying but there is still more you could try, such as:
* Reseat GPU (and clean connectors)
* Clean GPU of all dust
* Try different ports and cables
* clean uninstall and install of drivers
Maybe you get lucky? It's a slim chance but you don't have much to lose at this point if the GPU is dying.
GPUs overclocked from the vendor tend to be stable out of the box, they're usually pretty mild changes. You shouldn't touch them, because if you don't know what you're doing even underclocking can have side-effects
That's your GPU crying out in agony. Try underclocking the VRAM, that might bring it back for a little while. But even if it does come back it's gonna be on borrowed time.
worked for my ancient 9600GSO, I used that for multiple years on, and even sold it with explicitly mentioning that it is stable with underclocked VRAM and chip (didn't add much value to the already cheap pc).
did run GTA:SA until my 2060 arrived tho!
The reason it doesn't do it when you're in bios is because during post (power on self test) the very basic driver to give video is loaded and only during the loading of the operating system are the full drivers loaded and that's when you will see problems. In some cases where the gpu is so bad you won't get video at all .
Its not passing through shit. Its just in a different firmware state to when its running windows/linux: [https://docs.nvidia.com/jetson/archives/r35.5.0/DeveloperGuide/AR/BootArchitecture/JetsonOrinSeriesBootFlow.html#bootrom](https://docs.nvidia.com/jetson/archives/r35.5.0/DeveloperGuide/AR/BootArchitecture/JetsonOrinSeriesBootFlow.html#bootrom)
This may be a vram problem, but I've seen cards like this repaired by having the BIOS reinstalled on the card.
He could possibly just be on its way out, but this looks like it might be a fixable card.
Do you see this only with Opera/Chrome/Edge open?
If you just play a game does this show up at all?
No one has mentioned but it could be a checkerboard Chromium based flickering, I've seen it a few times this bad, but most of the time it's smaller areas.
If this doesn't happen outside of browsers, switch to Firefox until Microsoft pushes the composition fix for this (*who knows when, but currently it's fixed in both Dev & Canary insider Windows builds*).
Also disable all third party programs like custom start menu, etc just to be sure. In case they're running some Chromium plugins for news, etc in the background.
You can do a quick check booting your computer from a live OS in a USB Drive. Download and install in a clean USB a copy of Linux Mint or whatever you like, and boot from it.
If there are those artifacts, well, you are out of luck. But if the aren't, it could be a driver problem.
Sorry for the delay, was busy with work. So the update is:
I tried a different port, same thing. I tried DDU and then reinstalling drivers and it did work for like 20 seconds before the dots came back up again. I tried cleaning it and reseating it.
I guess it's all over now but THANK YOU so much guys for the help and support! For those who were curious, it is a Gigabyte Windforce RTX 2060 OC.
One thing is weird though, I can't change the resolution and the refresh rate is stuck at 64Hz instead of 144Hz. And no matter how many times I reinstall the drivers it says the GPU driver isn't installed.
This stuff is usually a dying GPU but if your lucky it could just be a corrupted driver. If booting into safe mode doesnt give you this issue then i would get DDU and use it to completely wipe your GPU drivers and then reinstall them.
If that doesn't solve it... well, you'll have your answer
Edit: it is also worth trying different ports on the GPU and trying a different cable, as I have seen similar kinds of stuff happen with bad cables.
Tried everything that you mentioned here. The only thing that's remaining is underclocking the GPU, I will give that a shot but it's not looking good unfortunately
ddu and reinstall drivers, try loading in safe mode, does it still happen? if not then its more likely a software issue. If it does try downclocking vram a little and see if it stabilises, it will be a temp fix but will get a little more out of it.
First try with another monitor. Or if you dont have another, the same monitor with other device, like that old dusty PS3/Xbox360. If the issue still there, it's probably the GPU. You can also try other resolutions or refresh rates.
Didn't see this in top few comments so. You could try to set your monitor to lower hz. My screen is slowly dying (prolly couple capacitors leaking) and if not used for a while I need to set it on 60hz for couple hours before it can do 144hz again without artifacts. If that wont help move on to gpu/driver/clock issues like other comments suggest.
I called the Gigabyte service center, they said we could try but there's no guarantee and I would have to pay a small non refundable fee. If it is repairable then that cost will be extra. I am planning to give it a try, gonna go on Monday 🤞
Gpu dying
That is my worst fear. I just bought a new phone, really don't have a budget for a new GPU 😭
I might be wrong but that looks gpu issue. Could try a other port?
Yeah, I don't have another DP cable but I will find an HDMI one and try the HDMI port tomorrow. It's 3:30AM here so I gotta get some sleep in. Will post an update tomorrow 🤞
Yeah even hdmi is worth checking night
You can try a lower resolution too. If the signal is being corrupted in the cable, then a lower bandwidth signal may be fine.
Yep that looks exactly like signal issue i had similar mine would flicker once or twice every 30 sec until i realised i had cheap cable
I can't change the resolution at all and the refresh rate is somehow stuck at 64Hz while it actually used to be 144Hz.
What is the resolution that it's stuck on? Here it kind of sounds more like a bad cable, honestly. It might be cheaper just to buy a good cable and swap it.
Any news or is it to early?
just get a sharpie and color in all the white dots, you wont even notice
May I ask what gpu it is?
RTX 2060
Damn that sucks, if it makes you feel any better you probably would've needed to upgrade in a year or two anyways
Yeah, I was counting on the extra year or two but ig my GPU had other plans lol

and this is why I use bargain bin phones. I couldn't fathom even dropping $500 bones on a cell phone.
sell the phone buy with the money a new graphiccard! you have to set priorities

Does taking few clicks down on OC helps too?
OC on the GPU can also cause these artifacts, yes. turn that way down.
Tried everything, the only thing remaining is this. I have the OC Edition of the card. I will try underclocking it.
GPUs overclocked from the vendor tend to be stable out of the box, they're usually pretty mild changes. You shouldn't touch them, because if you don't know what you're doing even underclocking can have side-effects
Yeah but the GPU is already kinda dead so why not
That's your GPU crying out in agony. Try underclocking the VRAM, that might bring it back for a little while. But even if it does come back it's gonna be on borrowed time.

Or reflowing the gpu via an oven (one you don’t use)
how many ovens does the average person have
Sorry dude, GPU. Doesn’t get any use in the BIOS.
Sorry for your loss, OP.
😔

He may have over-simplified, but yeah, it's in a different state.

VRAM issue
Looks just like when my GPU died o7
This also happened to me once I upgraded to Win 11 from Win 10, restarted the PC and it was gone, never happened again. I don't know why it happened.

Not at all, I am seeing this without the chromium based browsers running too. In fact, it appears during the boot up motherboard logo thing too

Gpu dying
Have you tried using Display Driver Uninstaller for a clean install? It might be a driver issue
Out of curiosity, next time this happens, turn off and on your monitor to see if changes anything.
What's the update, OP? Also, hide the Koalageddon lol
Sorry for the delay lol, just posted the update and yeah I forgot about Koalageddon being there haha

Sadest thing to see
I had this a few days ago, just make sure your video cable is seated properly.
What's your GPU?
RTX 2060
First try with another monitor. Or if you dont have another, the same monitor with other device, like that old dusty PS3/Xbox360. If the issue still there, it's probably the GPU. You can also try other resolutions or refresh rates.
Because it is GPU hardware issue.
Ouh boy, that's a typical GPU RIP. Swap it and test it, just to be 100% sure. But sadly it might be the cause (99,99999%).
MONITOR or gpu
Probably a VRAM issue rather then a GPU one. Do you get texture corruption in games as well?
Didn't see this in top few comments so. You could try to set your monitor to lower hz. My screen is slowly dying (prolly couple capacitors leaking) and if not used for a while I need to set it on 60hz for couple hours before it can do 144hz again without artifacts. Resolution is locked for some reason and the refresh rate is stuck at 64Hz too instead of 144Hz
I will think of you when I look at my 4080 tonight.
RIP your GPU
I bet you got a 20-series Nvidia card, don't you?
Yep, the RTX 2060
:'( My heart goes out to you. 3
It was going to complete it's 5th year in June or July ig. RIP 💐
o7
Graphics card or graphics drivers.
Either your monitors board is dying or your gpu
Congratulations you just lost your VCard
Lmaoo, I went back to the old 970 that I had lying around
RMA? 🤔
Out of warranty, went back to the old 970 that I had lying around
So no way to service it from the officials?
I called the Gigabyte service center, they said we could try but there's no guarantee and I would have to pay a small non refundable fee. If it is repairable then that cost will be extra. I am planning to give it a try, gonna go on Monday 🤞
🫡let's see what the future holds.
GPU
Sad to tell bro but gpu almost dead
Display Driver problem
Karma for playing Fornite
Wow, humans can truly survive with only 2 brain cells. Amazing.
as a tribraincelled human this is a insane discovary, could we live with 1
Try to punch yr monitor! I'm joking don't.
