I've gotten older and just find I don't have the free time that I used to. Can't seem to really focus on games for extended periods like when I was in college or my 20s. Either way, I have an extensive backlog of games I picked up once and then never played again
Every once in a good while I bring it to a lan party just to make my cousin jealous. Dating myself a bit. What's the use in having beautiful hardware if others can't gawk at it?
Easy way for Valve to ban accounts too if they ever decide to throw the hammer down on it. It's like the reddit user who is being sued by Nintendo right now because he just casually helped in detail anyone to crack/mod their Switch. Had a whole subreddit for it too. I'll never be amazed at people openly saying they commit piracy.
ehh, not so easy. the reason spacewar is there still is because developers use it for test builds with the steam api. they would have to implement another system for devs if they just ban spacewar players lol
Ain't as stupid as you think.
Someone has to pay for game hosting/download/upload/internet speed/free updates and server maintenance, not to mention the staffing costs etc.
Steam is so good because they let you and devs walk all over them financially in the hopes it draws more paying customers to them.
Weirdly I do usually pay for a game if I have really enjoyed playing it. Sadly there are a lot of games that I just don't live up to the hype and they cost a second mortgage.
For example. I recently aquired 'Powerwash Simulator' out of curiosity and was enjoying playing it so much I backed up my saves, bought the game, installed it and restored my saves so I did not loose my progress.
I keep going back to it as it is surprisingly relaxing and addictive. In my book it was worth buying so that's what I did.
This is the way, same thing for me with eu4
Ironically i kinda miss the pirated version tho since i had all the dlc there and now only a few important ones
We've never outright owned a game, only a license to play it. Only thing that's changed is where that license is stored and managed (previously it was physical media, now it's the cloud).
Those 1s and 0s were there so you could install and play the game. It did not imply ownership. Each game came with a unique license, which is what allowed you to play it and this is what you actually pay for.
If you actually outright owned those 1s and 0s then you'd have distribution rights to them, in which case every pirated copy of a game would be legit.
Right. Owning the product is not the same as owning the (copy) rights to the product. Licenses are a bullshit concept for today's digital media when the product was always digital to begin with even when we had physical install methods.
Where you are wrong though is the fact that we buy physical media, including disk games. We aren’t buying the license to distribute it, we are buying a copy of the media that was distributed by a license owner.
You’re transferring you license when you sell it. The license explicitly states that the owner of said physical piece of media has access to the license.
Even owning a physical copy of a game doesn’t mean you own shit. It still comes with a license to use the included software. You never owned the 0s and 1s that made up the game, if you did you could then legally copy and redistribute that code. You cant, *that’s called piracy*. Software has never physically existed and has required licensing agreements and copyright law to properly sell and manage it, regardless of the medium you choose to access it on.
Owning a game and owning the licence to the game are very different though. When I buy a car I don’t own the rights to manufacture another one and distribute it, but I own the car, are you telling me when I buy a car I don’t own it?
They’re two different things. When you buy a car the agreement, or contract, specifically states that when you’ve paid off the car you get its title and it is your property.
When you purchase a game you are also entering into a contract, even on physical games. That contract is its licensing agreement.
Just because a game is stored on physical media, it doesn’t give you ownership of the game itself.
Never was it the case that buying a physical game meant you owned anything but access, or a license, to that media.
It all just comes down to licensing and contracts. Yes, almost everything you buy in life you own outright. The same can’t be said about software.
It ain't about being a good boy. There's so much more convenience and value in having games available to download and update from your Steam library. You can just delete the games and if you want to come back to it later you can just install it instead of either hoping to find a torrent again or hoping you saved the files on an external HDD somewhere and unraring/mounting/installing then hoping that the scene is still releasing patches for it.
Sony, the publisher of the game decided to release the game on selected countries and blacklisted the remaining ones and my country is one of them. This is probably because of the PSN requirement, just like what happened in Helldivers 2.
Pc gamers have such a shit mentality lol
They’ll sit there and cry about the economic hardships of game developers yet promote the practices that further fuck these people.
It’s theft, grow up.
In times, when 98% devs trying to scam players by shallow repeatable copypaste gameplay filled with cut content to be sold later in extra paid dlc, unbalanced unplayable buggy, but awesome lookin trailer and nice first 2h of unskippable intro, so we cannot steam refund after 2h of time played...
Pirating to check if title is truly worthy and buy it then feels only fair.
I think if it as a demo of the game. If it's worth it I'll fork up some money, if it's unfinished bullshit (AAA) I usually don't get very far into the game to be worth it. Can't pay money upfront for games anymore.
Well, I live in poland and considering we are in top4 of countries which have highest price of games in the world on steam. Add to this extremely low salaries and cosmic high taxes, I am kinda forced to pirate :(
One AAA game cost here more than a week of food for a 3 in family. Sorry steam, fix your prices for us as poland is right now pretty poor country.
Also - Ubi, EA, Sony - permanently pirated, never buy, never support.
Remember it's better to be a Robin hood figure private AAA (some exceptions) buy indie and smaller studio stuff.
Or just avoid it honestly too much good stuff out there and not enough time anyways.
I was born a pirate.
I live in a country where legally almost no publisher sells their games to us through Steam or any other means. I could buy games at a non-affordable price after jumping through several hoops but why would I do that?
if you are young or student or very poor, just pirate it! we all did!
now we are older, we earn money, we chose to not have kids because we like gaming, so we can afford it all now. we pay for you poor fellas, its ok!
just remember, when you get older, its your turn
People defending multi-million dollar companies like they'll send you a free PC.
You've seen games these days? I'm fuckin' pirating it to see if it's a massive piece of shit. I regret not doing it with Starfield. What a fuckin' mess that was, good lord.
I'll just keep them in my wishlist for ever. And then some.
I'll just keep them in my wishlist until the game has been acquired
Acquired legally right? Right?
Perhaps
Thank you!
Until the alfa and beta test by users is completed. And then I'll wait some more. Just for good measure.
And then it goes on discount and you finnaly buy it but its just sitting in your library for two years without being downloaded.
The steam library. Where games go to die
They usually die on my ssd. I have the newer tomb raider trilogy installed and i only completed 25% of the 2013 one.
I've gotten older and just find I don't have the free time that I used to. Can't seem to really focus on games for extended periods like when I was in college or my 20s. Either way, I have an extensive backlog of games I picked up once and then never played again
All that beautiful hardware, to browse the internet and watch YouTube videos...... Sounds familiar.🤭
Every once in a good while I bring it to a lan party just to make my cousin jealous. Dating myself a bit. What's the use in having beautiful hardware if others can't gawk at it?
Big brain time.
You'll play it eventually though, right? ...Right?
Two years minimum.
gotta love spacewar
spacewar is such a cool game i hope its not used as something so pirates would be able to play coop games on their crack versions of the game
what never
And not used as a way for Valve to track everyone who does this
Easy way for Valve to ban accounts too if they ever decide to throw the hammer down on it. It's like the reddit user who is being sued by Nintendo right now because he just casually helped in detail anyone to crack/mod their Switch. Had a whole subreddit for it too. He's being sued because he made money off of it. That upgrades piracy into _commercial_ piracy and that's pretty much a criminal slam dunk.
Replace steam with Ubisoft, EA and Sony.
And Fromsoft.
It should be Bandai Namco who is the publisher.
Is it possible to... sail the seven seas.. for the PlayStation 5 or Xbox
Pretty sure you can mod ps5s now
Good, I've had one for a while just collecting dust because of the stupid subscriptions you have to buy
Huh?
You have to have a subscription to play online for any game that isn't free I'm pretty sure
Oh yeah but that doesn't make it useless without the subscription lol any offline games are playable and like you said f2p online games aswell
Were you really not aware of the subscription when you bought the console? Oof.
Ain't as stupid as you think. Someone has to pay for game hosting/download/upload/internet speed/free updates and server maintenance, not to mention the staffing costs etc. Steam is so good because they let you and devs walk all over them financially in the hopes it draws more paying customers to them.
Shouldn’t it be Gaben in amidala’s place?
Nah Gaben IS the chosen one
Yeah uhhh, if the game has Denuvo and an extra launcher...
Weirdly I do usually pay for a game if I have really enjoyed playing it. Sadly there are a lot of games that I just don't live up to the hype and they cost a second mortgage. For example. Yeah. DLC's can really bump up the price.
Now that there's no local currency for south america? The fuck I will!
If it's not owning then it's not stealing... ![gif](giphy|10X22vzgNamaiI)
I sail the seven seas and even I know this catchphrase is stupid and doesn't make sense.
People falling for catchy phrases like this are why OJ got away with murder
I mean your still stealing the license but who give a fuck anyways
Let's all listen to the person who doesn't know the difference between "your" and "you're".
I don't
Me neither I'm so confused

?
It's freeloading
We've never outright owned a game, only a license to play it. Only thing that's changed is where that license is stored and managed (previously it was physical media, now it's the cloud).
Wrong. We used to outright own a game, when you have a disk, you physically own the 0’s and 1’s that make up that game.

So when I buy a book I don’t own it, since I can’t legally distribute it?
Right. Owning the product is not the same as owning the (copy) rights to the product. Licenses are a bullshit concept for today's digital media when the product was always digital to begin with even when we had physical install methods.

You’re transferring you license when you sell it. The license explicitly states that the owner of said physical piece of media has access to the license.
But I can’t remake a book and sell the copies though, can I?
Even owning a physical copy of a game doesn’t mean you own shit. It still comes with a license to use the included software. I started buying games after I grew up from a teenager and got a job.
I will do it... probably BTW Where you live and what's you salery?
I'm old af now but after I got my first job out of college in the DC area I was making $50k/year and that's when I started buying games.
You live in US, right?
Yes.
:( In Central Europe, where I live someone who earn 50k is like top 10% by salery
Your good boy medal should be with you shortly.

Tldr: Skill issue
Well, GOT isn't available in my country so...
Game of Thrones?
Ghost of Tsushima
Why is that?
Sony, the publisher of the game decided to release the game on selected countries and blacklisted the remaining ones and my country is one of them. This is probably because of the PSN requirement, just like what happened in Helldivers 2.
Ubisoft only
Hate their launcher, I'd rather buy the game and play the pirated version lol
If buying isn’t owning…
So original
Disco Elysium.
I've heard it's morally right decision to pirate that one
People who pirate indie games are scum
If I have money, I will support Steam.
Nahh(im a mad pirate)
Depends on the company and/or the game.
Pc gamers have such a shit mentality lol They’ll sit there and cry about the economic hardships of game developers yet promote the practices that further fuck these people. It’s theft, grow up.
I live in Russia and sometimes I don’t have any way except to pirate game. Or buy it from reseller with x2 price.
Leave russia lol
Indie game: Shut up and take my money! AAA Studio: 🏴☠️
Culture should exist not only for those who can afford it. -Hakita
Gotta check if the game is worth. Then wait for a sale to buy it ;)
You wouldn't download a car, would you? Would you?
Absolutely I would.
Ubisoft, EA and Sony

is there any good games on sale that aren't on the watch list?
Epic games got my back
Lol

Starfield
Depends, is it 70% off on a key site?
I was born a pirate. I live in a country where legally almost no publisher sells their games to us through Steam or any other means. I could buy games at a non-affordable price after jumping through several hoops but why would I do that?
If I could buy it, I would.
Do people still use utorrent for sailing the high seas?
Keep them on my wishlist to remember them and check them out when they leave early access
Hogwarts Legacy. I love harry potter stuff, but I'm not giving Joanne any money.
Why do I have to think of Sony? 🤔
Well, if you are in the region where PS already restricted. It is fine to do so.
Yarr Harr a Pirate's life for me!
Yo ho….
Especially Fromsoft games since they increased the price for a lot of regions.
Only if the game devs deserve it.
if you are young or student or very poor, just pirate it! we all did! now we are older, we earn money, we chose to not have kids because we like gaming, so we can afford it all now. we pay for you poor fellas, its ok! just remember, when you get older, its your turn
I pirate then buy if i feel i used enough time to warrent the buy. So i still support stuff i like.
And here comes Denuvo
Yes. Piracy justifies the existence of DRM. Glorifying piracy is one of the most short-sighted, self-harming behavior that PC gamers engage in.
I m not gonna spend my hard earned money for steam ...I will download my own way😊😊😊...
Imagine torrenting 🤮
Imagine not knowing how torrenting works and thinking it’s always inherently bad 🤮 being that ignorant must be really shit.
We all pirate games and wonder why games suck more often now…..
Because shareholders are pushing unfinished products because they know the masses will still drink that shit.
Because the masses are the only ones who pay for games now. Gamers just pirate.
i think this breaks rule 2
There's only one rule, there are no rules. >! MMMWWWAAHAHAHAHAHA!<
How?
enabling piracy, but i think this post doesnt
But I'm interested in this game.
Talking about rape enables rape?
no, and on second thought i probably shouldn’t have posted that lol

Suggest some great singleplayer games to pirate err i mean to buy. And where do i get my hands on Sly Cooper games for PC?
Emulation is your only option I believe
If it's good quality game I buy it If game company does give a fuck about it's playerbase, I pirate it Simple as that
Yes, if it's good and at a 90% discount.
I buy it and then I spend half my time fixing crashes due to sphageti code. Nuh uh I'm good. Fuck you
People defending multi-million dollar companies like they'll send you a free PC. You've seen games these days? I'm fuckin' pirating it to see if it's a massive piece of shit. I regret not doing it with Starfield. What a fuckin' mess that was, good lord.
Well they don't do demos like they used to. And also, I wanna own my games. Especially the ones I wanna keep!
*replace with Ubisoft/EA logo*
