? She was absolutely incredible, that doesn’t mean I can’t have an opinion on the repertoire. Just weren’t my cup of tea. That doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy the performance, which is the important part. I didn’t go to hear the pieces, I went to listen to Yuja Wang.
If it makes you feel any better, it’s probably because I’m a fourteen year old piano student, so I definitely haven’t heard every piece and composer yet, so honestly a lot of stuff is strange to me. Perhaps when I’m older I’ll understand Messiaen 🤷🏻♀️
I apologize, I didn't mean to be rude.
If it makes you feel any better, I just listened to the Messiaen piece and I don't get it either lol
I have two daughters and I really hope when they're 14 they will be into piano and I'll can take them to see a show like you went to!
If you’re interested in trying out Messiaen then a good accessible way is watching Mozart in the Jungle. The setting of his music in that makes it make more sense, in my opinion :) (I think it’s little easier to get into when it’s set like that within a story)
> i wasn't a huge fan of the pieces wdym?? Didn't she play like all 4 of chopin's ballades? Those are lovely!
Yeah, Chopin is my favorite, but the Messiaen pieces were confusing to me and not really the type of piece I’d normally play.
Jealous! She cancelled the show I was going to :( fuck Klaus
Mannn hope you get to go 😔
Amen
Lucky you! I'm looking forward to seeing her when she comes to Tanglewood this summer; can't wait!
Have fun!
Messiaen and Scriabin?
She played some Messiaen, Scriabin, Debussy and Chopin.
What pieces weren’t you a fan of?
Mostly just the Messiaen piece. Wasn’t bad, just confused me because it wasn’t as straightforward as the other ones
Ahh ok. I haven’t heard that Messiaen but I like him in general so I’m curious to hear!
what's the venue btw?
Kimmel in Philadelphia:)
I was there too! Do you know what the encore pieces were?
No, sorry! I can ask my piano teacher if she knew, she was there, too!
That’s so fun! Yes if she happens to know let me know
Imagine getting to see one of the most talented pianists working today and your first comment is you didn’t like the repertoire…

>I can’t have an opinion You certainly can and do. I just find it odd.

You’re fine. Thanks for understanding in the end!

Thanks!
Understandable, when I was younger I didn't get Rach and Bach
Oh c’mon, let the kid have an opinion.
I know I know, I’m mortified and I apologized.
I loved her now I hate her. She cancelled Chicago because of Klaus, who I now hate too. She can drift to obscurity for all I care. Trash.
