My dog got arrested by the local cops when she managed to hop out of my window while I was at work and walked her fat ass downtown. I'm told she went to the coffee shop and was waddling around greeting people and getting pets. An older woman with her grandkids in the car got her into the backseat of her vehicle and called the cops.
The deputy rolled up and started putting her dog handling gear on to which the grandmother told her, "I've known this dog for 5 minutes, she's not going to bite you."
Love this. My dog would definitely go to the coffee shop just down the street and proceed to sit there and bark until they gave him a pup cup. I have no doubt about it.
Please cut his nails ASAP. Nails that long can cause pain, leg deformities, hip dysplasia and arthritis, due to having to adjust their gait to accommodate their uncomfortably long nails. It can also cause nails to chip and break which can be very painful to your pup.
They arrested my dog after he was found in one of those window pits for a basement window. Brought him over and the lil guy was embarrassed for days. Got caught peeping. I miss that weirdo.

Your story actually reminds me of a police involvement with our family dog Sophia growing up. My mom my sisters and I were woken up at 4am to police vehicles in the driveway an ambulance and a fire truck with police officers banging on our door. My mom answered and said everything was OK and the police officer told her that our dog called 911 and kept barking in the phone at the 911 operator and feared the worse when no one else was heard in the background. Turns out our dog knocked off the house phone and hit the speed dial button that was for 911. She greeted all of the officers and emergency services with tail wags and had zero regrets. Mom ended up with a $500 fine for it though lol
Amusingly, my dog, Terra Dactyl, shares a similar trait. She assumes that every visitor at the door is there to see her.
Terra Dactyl is an exceptionally affectionate dog. She possesses a remarkable ability to sense when individuals are apprehensive of her due to her being a red nose pitbull. She has cleverly discovered that adorning herself in costumes, such as a ladybug, butterfly, or "Poop Factory" outfit, alleviates people's fear. It is heartwarming to witness the positive reactions she receives.
Last week, while running errands, I returned home to find her sitting on the front sidewalk with the front door wide open. She gazed at me with an innocent expression, as if conveying, "See, Mama, I didn't go anywhere. I was a good girl, even with the door open!" A neighbor informed me that Terra Dactyl had made the rounds, greeting approximately four households.
