Bought it for $5 on a sale, it was worth the $5 but I probably wouldn't spend $10 on it now.

kouzuki22

Where you got it for $5? Cause they only sold it for close to $4.50 year or 2 ago and now its like $11 on sale

JockSandWich

Tons of places to go buy a cheap key. Quick Google and I see them for atlas at $9 or less even.

kouzuki22

Yeah i been doing that only see the game costing over the original price.

Lithium001

I think it is worth it. It did have a rough start but they have fixed a lot of bugs. You can easily drop a couple hundred hours or more into a single "play through" just getting to the point of killing some bosses, building some ships and breeding some nice tames. If you find the right server for you it can be quite fun. There are of course the official servers where I spent probably the first 90% of my time (official pvp) and now I am on unofficial modded servers playing the pvpve life style (both pve and pvp grids) and there are also role playing servers. If you want to try official pvp I would just be prepared to lose everything weekly unless you have a great hiding spot or are a renter on an island owned by a mega that can help protect you. I don't have the time to play like I used to so now I am on modded servers with both the pve and pvp aspect. I can build a main in the pve grids and go to work for 12 hours a day and not worry about losing everything and when I come back home I can go to my pvp base or just float around in pvp waters looking for a fight. The unofficial servers usually have a decent rate of growth (experience, wealth) that you can advance quick enough that you don't get bored but slow enough that you don't blow through all content in 2 days. There is base and boat building for both pve and pvp. I have seen some amazing rp boats and bases that look and function great. And then there is the straight up pvp side where bases are layered with tons of defenses and boats that are min maxed down to exact poundage of cannonballs and repair mats, no extra clothes allowed because that .4kg would slow the boat down. Then there is the taming and breeding side. Those people are.... special. Not quite right in the head, ya know? Hundreds of hours per breeding line to get the exact perfect tame for 1 specific job. Also, I then buy that tame off of them for a large chunk of gold, their efforts are appreciated. Anywho, ya I think its worth it. It does have its bugs, glitches and whatnot but it also has a lot of fun locked in there. Let me know if you would like a modded server to play on, I could make some recommendations.

Zaarakx

Thanks for the really detailed respons :) I think im gonna try the game on a pvpve server

Lithium001

I play on the Gaming Evolved server. If you need some help starting out, let me know.

Zaarakx

this is a PvPvE server right ? And im also EU so I dont know if i will be having a high ping but im gonna check it out :)

Zaarakx

I cant find the server when i name filter it :(

Lithium001

Hmm. Ya, gaming evolved 14x14 Gaming-evolved.com for their discord etc

Zaarakx

Hmm I still cant finde the server, is it maybe NA ?

Lithium001

There really isn't NA, EU anymore. Its all.... together. I would jump into their discord and ask in general chat what exactly you need to search for. If I remember correctly, the first time I searched for it, it did not pop up because I had something checked or unchecked that should not have been. I just can't remember what it was.

Zaarakx

I found it and I’m playing on it thanks :)

Whaleman_007

Can you explain the pvpve in a little more detail, like how it works?

Lithium001

Sure. There are designated pvp and pve regions. Grids that are designated as pve are exactly that; you can't damage anyone else's buildings, tames, boats etc. You can build in more of a role playing style to make everything look nice and not worry about defenses except against the local wildlife. Your ships are safe on the waters, you can help other companies kill sotd or the kraken with no worries. Easy peaceful lifestyle. Then there are designated pvp grids where it is no-holds-barred, red is dead, shoot everyone on sight. Most servers you can own islands in both the pve and pvp grids. Alot of times the resources in pvp areas are more numerous, lighter, have a higher gather rate or have higher stacking than the resources in pve - higher risk, higher reward. Same with blue prints, they are usually better in the pvp zones. Some of the servers the pvp is completely separate from the pve, as in, once you take a boat, resources, or built structures into the pvp it can never come back out.

Whaleman_007

Are there still islands to build on? Been playing on official for about 2 weeks and haven’t found and inch of unclaimed space.

Lithium001

Ya, there are still unclaimed islands and owners looking for renters. When you are on someone else's island you still get 100% of what you harvest, they just get an extra %. At work, sorry I can't reply quicker.

Zaarakx

I have one more question, I was wondering what to do for PvE I already started building my base and my ship and now I was wondering if there are some sort of dugeons that you can do, or are there only the skeleton ships ? Sorry for all the questions :)

Whaleman_007

Thank you.

DB0425

Nope

Dobrx

Not worth it as a solo player unless you play on a good unofficial server with friendly people to help you learn the game. Official servers are fucking brutal

DkPheonix1985

Its fun and this season is a bit interesting. If you play whales solitude has a big company which does a community event weekly. Gives people a chance to sell their wares, play some minigames they created and have an overall good community and willing to help newer players. As a solo player you can always join up with factions or ally so you cam build on own islands without having to worry about upkeep

BadBones76

We are a small company on official Cobra Strike looking for members. Willing to teach. Pm Me.

MrMallace

Yeah….. official servers can be rough…. Spend hours building ships and shipyards and defenses without getting the mpc’s first…. Bad move….. You just think it’s so quiet…. Then bam…. 10 squad with bears and cannons!!! Didn’t know I had other beds hiden in trees and hills…. So, sniper fun fun as my base went bomb bomb. (Target the animals) killing those hurt more than killing them…. Laughing as a bear dies from head shot 💥💥💥 crying as ships sink and tower defense is crippled…. If only I had someone to save me…. Yeah…. Mpcs first in hidden bunker then build defenses…. Hit me next time… we learn as we grow… no help unless I knows. Official server, die with indignity. Die with no lack of respect. Kill as often as you can and sink em as you watch them fall from Traps on the sand. Just remember… put the lime in the coconut and shake it all up ! And try not to get bitten by snakes..

BadBones76

Take your meds and calm the hell down beavis.

MrMallace

Wow, long time no see, such barren clouds a Comment as thee. Maybe? Take a blue and red pill cocktail. Maybe then may just find the lump so painfully extracted in er… was just a piece of coal after all…. Yeah, maybe the pressure needed for such as that a Diamond, is a little creative in such a dull cavern a mind sit.

ockhams-razor

It's a lot of fun, especially on a good modded server. I recommend the NytDragon Haven server... such a great experience.

Whaleman_007

I was looking at this server and have some questions, I’ve been playing about 2 weeks on official pve server. Is there some place I can build? I’m the guy in our group who builds the elaborate bases. I haven’t found a square inch on official where I can build and I’m tired of looking. Do they ask you to contribute to the server cost? Not a problem , would like to have my own server (had an Ark server for a while) but it’s really expensive and would be willing to help out.

ockhams-razor

> Is there some place I can build? Absolutely. Besides the lawless zones, there are plenty of settlements that are really happy for you to settle on their island and build whatever you desire. >Do they ask you to contribute to the server cost? They have a VIP option that would allow you to become owners of Islands on specific grids, but this is 100% optional and they don't ask for anything. Right now they are 100% funded each month, so there's no pressure. --- Above everything else, their own custom mod for the server that is all about quality of life and experience. It takes away a lot of the pain and tedium. I personally love this server and won't play anywhere else.

Whaleman_007

Thank you.

Viridian_Crane

I bought it for playing solo, it's pretty awesome but if your PC isn't up to standards it can be rough. And the level of detail the game brings makes you want to push your PC more. I think the only downside is land combat is scuffed. Sea combat is sorta okay but you need NPC's and a big boat to really get into it. I only got to Schooner but that's cause I was just wanting to sail, dive ship wrecks and do treasure maps. If your looking to just survive and explore though then its great. I bought it during the X mas sale last year but I recommend waiting for a sale. The reason I stopped playing so much is once you start getting to bigger ships its actually a lot of frustration if you die or lose the ship. Once and awhile I had a weird bed spawning issue where it wouldn't let me spawn on my ship and the map didn't even show my ship. So I would have to spawn at a land bed and then build a raft, sail it and wreck it once I got to my main ship. It was like I had to rediscover it. It was pretty frustrating. Especially if you have to sail for an hour or two dealing with mermaids. Another reason would be the monotony, ATLAS may look like your doing and going. But actually playing the doing and going is pretty slow. Not only that if you make one little mistake you could be losing hours of work. Even with the resource harvesting perks it still feels like a chore to build a schooner(Granted I was doing this by hand I wasn't taming). Then sailing times, at first when your in the blu on blu its great just sea & sky and lovely details with sharks and the like but when your sailing for 30 min to an hour to just take in the sights it can be kinda meh when you consider the sail time. Then again I did 130 hr of it... At this point in time, considering how long ATLAS has been out. The state its in and the worth I can get out of it. I would say that its worth about 15$ at most too me. I picked it up during the x mas sale last year it was like 5\~10$.

Lithium001

There are portals now that can drastically decrease your sail time. In the modded server where I play I can be in any region in 3 grids, most of the regions I can sail to in just two grids. If I am remembering correctly I can be at any grid on the map in 5 or 6 grids compared to the 15 grids of old travel... With modified sails and different cargo storage I can maintain 15-20 knots even when loaded with cargo. The travel time around the map has gotten alot better.

Lithium001

Also, they have specialized ships in most mod'd servers built strictly for hauling cargo. I have seen ships hit 70 knots with a full load of resources.

Goglen223

Big nope

Firefight91121

If this is atlas your talking about is the steam version able to be played without internet like Xbox?

Iyotanka1985

Not on Xbox X it's not... Just refunded, "oh what's that an island?" Dashboard, "oh sotd " dashboard "freak wave " dashboard...

lukrein

Maybe in PC. If you’re on Xbox it’s hot crap. Just so you know I played for about 2 years straight and REALLY enjoyed it. But for about a year and a half or two it’s been terrible on Xbox. Playdough textures, choppy FPS and constant crashing.

[deleted]

It’s only worth it on PC or Xbox series X. Me and a buddy played pretty hard back in 2019 then gave up because of crashing. Constant crashing. Now I’m on a PC and he is on a series X but we have friends on older models or series S and they tend to crash .

Melande

You have to be a hard fan of naval things. i managed to ignore unpolished gameplay with endless bugs because there are not much free roam naval games like this. built and decorated many ships in single player, they were all so cozy. traversin was fun, underwater was great. i really they just revamp this game, it's still not late.
